I highly recommend an allround "build" for the first playthrough of the dlc, cause with all the new stuff, weapons, spells, ashes of war... first thing you want to do, is try them out, in wich case, an extremly specialist build will bring you right back to renalla an respec your character
that's what I did first starting the game. Had a jack of all trades build and slowly specialized in to a playstyle I enjoyed most as the game progressed
I was considering that, but I came to the conclusion that I wanna play through the expansion multiple times.. So I can have a situation like “oh, I can’t use that spell, maybe next play though I’ll go faith-build so i can use that incantation”

How I interpreted the "new levelling mechanic" is some thing along the lines of: The enemies in the new area can only be effectively damaged via a new damage value. If i were theorize, you would probably be able to infuse your current weapons with this new damage value in order for current loadouts to be effective. But i also theorize that the new weapons in the DLC might have more potential in relation to this new damage value, leading to people using the new weapons but also not completely discrediting the weapons in the current game.
I’m definitely doing my first arcane strength build for the DLC…nice juicy loot items for days. I’m definitely farming that good lookin armor for myself😎
One thing I really want to see is more weapons or spells that has the frenzy status effect on it because I love all the frenzy items in the base game but there were so little to work with
Just wanted to say I love your build videos. From the launch of Elden Ring I've taken inspiration from these builds to create my own thing. My main character I will be taking into the DLC is a lightening dragon blood dancer. I've experimented with other builds with new characters after beating the game but I love my creation. Thanks for the hard work you put into these builds. Can't wait to see what comes in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Something I think is really good for people who do multiple playthroughs is to focus less on high damage to kill enemies and bosses as fast as possible but instead to focus on surviving as long as possible to have more time learning attack patterns and how to dodge or parry. For Elden Ring that build involves the Serpent God's Curved Sword, Blasphemous Blade, Icon Shield, Blessed Dew Talisman, Assassin's Crimson Dagger, and Taker's Cameo. This has a ton of healing letting you explore further and die less so you can focus on learning the enemies instead of just trying to kill everything as fast as possible.
Nice informative video as usual! I havent heard much yet about how, having the new sekiro-like damage progression system, the best use of extra lvls will possibly be in the form of HP, Stamina and Mind. Also, it COULD be that the damage enhancement works in such a way that is not a % increase in dmg (and corresponding incr in Boss HP) but more of a % filter to a fixed dmg reductiont he bosses may have applied in the dlc. Like so, the interesting "buff" on status ailments would be mitigated, as the bosses would not have higher hp pools, but more of a Dmg Reduction filter you can reduce by progressing through.
Bleed build power stance w scavenger swords…I’ll believe it won’t work when everything stops dying in front of me. Agree status effects may be workaround to DLC leveling scheme. I plan on rolling current character in NG+++

I was expecting the dlc to be considered endgame content (150+ Nv.), but a new mechanic to adjust players that want to bring a weapon from there to enjoy in the base game seems really good.
Honestly, a major thing I hope for is more madness weapons/spells. That, and while I do like the idea of holy damage being highly relevant in the DLC, I think that'd be too easy to make happen and that's why From Soft won't do it.
I personally think they wouldn't make Holy damage much better because it goes against the idea they're bringing with the new system. If holy damage is better in the DLC, then it would just funnel people into holy damage, which is already a thing many people would be carrying from the base game.
@@KodFrostwrath People can do whatever they want, but I really do not think FromSoft designs the game with people funneling the overpowered thing in mind. If people ruin the game for themselves by switching builds every time something becomes meta, there is not much FromSoft can do about that. That said, they still want everything to be decently competitive. Holy damage should not be so overpowered in the dlc that it is objectively the best for every situation, but I think it would be fair for it to have more bosses on average it is strong against to make up for how poorly it performs in the endgame.

Does anyone think that this "Attack Power" thing is being completely blown out of proportion? I don't think that they will be nerfing the damage we are already doing, I think they are just adding power system that stacks on top of what's already available. From everything I've seen in the interviews, nothing made me think they'd be nerfing people's damage going into the DLC
I know I already said this on the previous video, but I just wanted to make sure to comment it on your most recent video. I thought I would share a cool build that I made. It is a life sapping build, specializing in black flame spells and blood loss buildup: the weapon is Rivers of Blood. Since katanas strike quickly, I think it is a good weapon, especially with the bleed. In your offhand, you will use the Godslayer seal. The incantations you will be using are Black Flame, Scouring Black Flame, Black Flame Ritual, and Black Blade, so you will have to kill Maliketh for this build, as well as Morgott and the Fire Giant. As for talismans, you will use these four: Flock's Canvas talisman, Shard of Alexander, Lord of Blood's Exultation, Two Fingers Heirloom. The final part of this build is the War surgeon set.
I'm holding my NG+3 RL 125 character rn. I don't wanna move on before grinding out the DLC. Dex/Faith Black Blade build. Basically Flame Art and Sacred infusions galore. Still got 3 Larval Tears if I wanna roll back into my Str/Int, Arc/Fth, or Str/Fth builds for those strengths. Biggest weakness with the Dex/Fth is heavy armored and/or shield guys. Got back up weapons but kinda min-maxed for daggers/curved swords.
God, watching your magic build shred through enemies in this video makes me want to prepare a magic build again (which was my first playthrough build). It's a pretty powerful ability and easy to use/leverage in a playthrough.
I feel like a smooth way for them to implement this new "attack power system" would be to give enemies/bosses in the DLC resistances to all types of damage (so status effects and poise included). Then the player can lower those resistances by collecting whatever items are tied to this system. This would also ensure the base game isn't affected, since whatever we collect only affects those DLC resistances. So a bit of a reversal of the Sekiro system with similar results?
I think this advice is as good as it can possibly get, given our state of knowledge about the DLC. Thanks, I didn't really consider status and poise-breaking so much previously. Holy damage seems like a big gamble though, the lore gave me the impression it would stay strong through the base game but that didn't pan out.
You sound pretty logical and spurred some new ideas in my mind. Thanks. I think I'll go with heaviest shield (fingerprint) and executioner's greataxe imbued with cragblade AoW and using guard-counters to the point where enemies' stances being broken in every 10 seconds.
Let's be real. I'm going Crucible Incantation Build for Aspect of the Crucible: Wings! And aspect of the Crucible:.. spikes? Spines? Quills? Edit: spelling
There are some speculations that the Crucible Wings will be a special power or an ash of war instead of an incantation because in the showcase trailer, the tarnished is holding a twin blade in one hand and a new shield in the other hand. Therefore, no seal to cast. But I’m definitely excited for crucible wings! Let’s fly baby!
I'm disappointed that my gravity god build has been rendered useless, with 1.09, but I am excited to watch this channel create new builds with the new mechanics. So its bittersweet.
My favorite is simple: Giant Crusher (cold infused) with royal knights resolve and flame grant me strength. Beat the entire game like that. Only spec vigor, endurance and str with minimum faith
I used one of your stagger builds (can't remember which because it was 2 years ago lol) to 100% this game. I will definitely be using that one for this DLC.
I started to make a Perfect Paladin build in early game, and another one with Pure Archer build (thinking of mixing in either 1h scimitar or katars). Will go as a Paladin into dlc since, well, the Land of Shadow sounds like heresy!
I know its not the most "OP" but i like and quite enjoy the theme of my build ive been dual wielding the miquellan knight and carian knight swords, little bit of holy+magic
Personally, I'm going in with a Int/Dex Sleep Archer build. Using Loretta's spells, oracle bubble spells and zamor ice storm + great blade phalanx with st trina's sword + torch and sometimes Albinauric bow. I stopped leveling at 200 , and I wanna keep it that way. I recently put down my Vigor cause I wanna "git gud". I play at an Acolyte of St Trina, I presume they'll be lots more sleep items - can't wait for the sleep flower field from the trailer. I don't really care about damage, it's about having fun... Did pure dex and found it too easy. Returning after a break is just playing from bad to good allover again!
Personally, I hope that Holy damage is good in the DLC cause holy weapons in my opinion have some of the coolest designs and Ashes of War, like Marika's Hammer.
If there's a mechanic in the DLC that nerfs your attack power or brings it down significantly I don't like that. I worked very hard to achieve the level, stats, accessories etc I've built up and I don't want it to be taken away or lessened.
Would you rather have a fun and fair experience in this dlc or be completely overpowered and wipe everything out immediately without actually experiencing them? Thank about it.
@@bamalamlamlam4776 I quite enjoy being OP. I could always set the difficulty to hardest if I want. More flexibility. Less frustration. Some guys like dying over and over and over and over. I don't. That is not to say I don't mind dying a couple times but not too often where it gets frustrating.
I would imagine that a good poetion of the reason for the attack power mechanic is just the time it has take for the dlc to come out. An extra year basically means a hell of a lot more players are sitting at extremely high level and in high ng+ states.
Ironically, the only strategy I'm confident will work for the dlc is to make sure I can still "git gud". This exact topics been on my mind since announcement and your thoughts were great, so thx for the vid
Comparing a lvl 300 to a 713. Once you've hit 300 you can make pretty much any build with a similar or even same dmg output as a 713 of the same build. 300 doesn't take anywhere near as long to get to. Its essentially an end game lvl as you have enough points to hit hard caps of essential stats for a build. Anyway with all that, the DLC has already been said to be for end game players. Its designed around those character builds etc. The DLC isn't ment for new characters not saying you cant do it just saying its for end game stats. I believe thats what Miyazaki has already said. That being said I believe that if you have a lvl 300 str build w 99 in str. Vigor 60 and the rest are filler stats. You go into DLC with a lvl 713 of exact same str build you both will still be doing the same dmg for the most part (just an example). However you need more str to do more dmg to said enemies so now comes the new lvl system adding to what you've already brought with you to dlc. New items that boost str, int, dex, etc. etc. I dont think anything is getting nerfed I just think the bosses are going to be that hard that an end game str build of 300+ is going to need even more str than what you could get from a 99 stat. Thats what I think at least. I know its alot sorry lol
The new scaling system is probably related to the crucible in some way considering the whole flashy wing move we saw in the trailer. Considering the player in the trailer didn't have a talisman on hand
I decided to use a Miquellan Knight build. Haligtree Knight armor, shield, and Miquellan Knight Sword, mixed with holy incantations. Idk for sure, but I think Miquella will be an ally, so this build just makes sense to me.
@nowe LOL WTF? Nice apples vs. asparagus correlation and utter b/s. Are you upset they added NPC locations? There’s no valid reason to not have simple method for saving various builds. Having tried many various builds and liking to switch up between a few of them every so often, I shouldn’t have to note every single piece of gear/spell/stat if I want to use a (finite but fairly generous resource) Tear to respec. Having a ‘load out’ in no way, shape, or form affects any part of the game. Not have it is just an unnecessary nuisance.
What I’m worried about with the new attack power system is how balanced it’ll be with existing characters on higher ng+ games. If it is like Sekiro and it carries over to subsequent new games, then my main character would be screwed. He’s on his third playthrough, so if for argument’s sake, you can get a maximum of 10 attack power from killing ten bosses in the dlc, theoretically on a third new game, it would be balanced for a character with 30 attack power, but mine would only be able to get 10 attack power from killing bosses. The only way I could see this working is if attack power gets reset after each new game. The closest approximation I can think of is how Vendrick in DS2 scaled based on the giant souls you can get, but they don’t carry over into ng+.
If you want a really good “stance damage build” just make the stats whatever you want. Throw on the axe talisman ring, medium/heavy weapon, and hold those R2 down. “Stance damage build” complete.
I did use my ashes of war enough at all, or summoning. I'm going to use that stuff in the dlc. Towards the back half of the game, I chunked the lighting spear at everyone, then switched to Mougs spear when enemies closes in. probably spelt his name wrong. 7:41
I have a feeling my build will hold up well, I run a stance break, frost, bleed and attack power based build and I feel like this is solid, if anyone wants the build just ask igu
Writing this prior to watching the vid and haven’t seen the other yet either, but my plan is to go through it with my paladin build on Xbox or my OP dex/strength build on ps5
I understand the concept of the video but if you beat the main game and some extra side stuff like Melania your already ready for the dlc just watch a few build videos if u think that will help
You raised some good points, but I do believe right now (late February) is too early to decide on how we should build our characters for the DLC. I imagine closer to launch, like April-May, would be a better time to reiterate some of these issues.
Great vid as always! I'm really curious as to how fromsoft will handle this. Cause this sounds like a balancing nightmare for them. They're gonna be some busted builds that make it through they can't get em all lol.
I’m going into dlc with battle mage build at 260 lvl with high arcane for bleed in right hand weapon using Morgotts curved sword for melee. S tier staff weapon in left hand for setting up powerful range attacks like legendary spell The Founding Stars for boss fights where you may need range to survive
I’m just gonna go back to the build I used to beat the game the first time around, treat it like a continuation of the first time I became Elden Lord, which is a lightning ronin build.
Does anyone know if the hyper armor gained from off hand great spear attacks gets applied while power stancing great spears since in order to power stance you have to have one in your off hand??

I'm disappointed that my gravity god build has been rendered useless, with 1.09, but I am excited to watch this channel create new builds with the new mechanics. So its bittersweet.
I'm using night comet with black knife armor and double staff of loss on ng+15 for this expansion when it drops. My Sellian assassin.
Your channel is the best. Keep up the excellent content. Thank you.
Going to stay with my crusader mage. Let's go!!! Excited for the DLC
My favorite is simple: Giant Crusher (cold infused) with royal knights resolve and flame grant me strength. Beat the entire game like that. Only spec vigor, endurance and str with minimum faith
If only it didn't block half of the screen..
I used one of your stagger builds (can't remember which because it was 2 years ago lol) to 100% this game. I will definitely be using that one for this DLC.
I really hope we get more larval tears. I’m all out on my main character and really wanna try different builds with the new weapons.
I started to make a Perfect Paladin build in early game, and another one with Pure Archer build (thinking of mixing in either 1h scimitar or katars). Will go as a Paladin into dlc since, well, the Land of Shadow sounds like heresy!
Fextras builds are off the hook 🪝!
Nice one Fex. I'll be going in with my trusty uchis and tonnes of greases ....
Might follow this guide to help me finish the game
I’ll be going in on ng++ so I will be testing a lot of the builds you made
I know its not the most "OP" but i like and quite enjoy the theme of my build
ive been dual wielding the miquellan knight and carian knight swords, little bit of holy+magic
Pyro Faith/strength build with blasphemous blade and gargoyle's black blade. It's an absolute monster.
I cant wait put my fingers in this game... your builds are really amazing. 💌
Hopefully there's no nerfing involved, but the enemies and bosses HP scales with your Rune Level and Attack Rating, that would be better in my opinion
Babe..wake up.. Fextralife dropped another Elden Ring video
My question is how do we know they’re the best of though we have barely any idea what we’re up against 😂
Comparing a lvl 300 to a 713.
Might use my moonveil Ng+ plus build
I also took the many death face smashing route. Killed it as a wretch with my club and loincloth.
I decided to use a Miquellan Knight build. Haligtree Knight armor, shield, and Miquellan Knight Sword, mixed with holy incantations. Idk for sure, but I think Miquella will be an ally, so this build just makes sense to me.
And this is even more reason FS should have had/added a build save system. It’s absolutely ridiculous and frustrating that isn’t ‘a thing’ in ER.
The closest approximation I can think of is how Vendrick in DS2 scaled based on the giant souls you can get, but they don’t carry over into ng+.
so as a new souls player, what i gather from this is video is it is finally time to master parrying
I am using a batrle mage build, with fungerprint shield (level 260) I gonna spam sorcerer while I become a human tank
Get so over leveled that your magic and melee builds can exist at the same time.
but the big question is: do you want to be OP in the beginning of the DLC? Isnt it much more fun if you have to suffer?
Yee. I don't get the peeps complaining about not being able to steam roll through the experience with their level 350+ builds.
I think black flame and destined death are gonna be underrated for the DLC
Well done Fextra 🗿
Zweihander with poison mist is OP. Bleed and poison is what im taking into DLC
Solid speculation! (Even if it’s too early to speculate….)
I’m going in with my dex/arc Morgott’s Cursed Sword build because it’s the most fun weapon in the game.
It would be also nice to remember black flame(hp%dmg persec) and black blades (reducing enemy max health)
I have a feeling my build will hold up well, I run a stance break, frost, bleed and attack power based build and I feel like this is solid, if anyone wants the build just ask igu
When we get more info, could we get a video on incantation and the top tier incantations for DLC
Im a pure dex build . Which means im cooler than most players
Writing this prior to watching the vid and haven’t seen the other yet either, but my plan is to go through it with my paladin build on Xbox or my OP dex/strength build on ps5
All you need is blood rusted anchor with wild strikes AOW, rotten sword/shard of Alexander/spear tailsman/ lord of bloods
I understand the concept of the video but if you beat the main game and some extra side stuff like Melania your already ready for the dlc just watch a few build videos if u think that will help
I feel like a quality build with some faith, int, arcane could be good for trying out many new weapons.
You raised some good points, but I do believe right now (late February) is too early to decide on how we should build our characters for the DLC. I imagine closer to launch, like April-May, would be a better time to reiterate some of these issues.
I was going to use my ng+8 strength build, but now I'm thinking of a duel wield Dark Moon build.
Great vid as always! I'm really curious as to how fromsoft will handle this. Cause this sounds like a balancing nightmare for them. They're gonna be some busted builds that make it through they can't get em all lol.
“This boss is too strong, time to go murk that bird some more”
I’m going into dlc with battle mage build at 260 lvl with high arcane for bleed in right hand weapon using Morgotts curved sword for melee. S tier staff weapon in left hand for setting up powerful range attacks like legendary spell The Founding Stars for boss fights where you may need range to survive
I’m just gonna go back to the build I used to beat the game the first time around, treat it like a continuation of the first time I became Elden Lord, which is a lightning ronin build.
im going to go after all of the cookbooks - poison lakes - get your craft items now
2:46 we have bleed build 😂😂😂
I hope holy damage is going to become viable in the DLC like you say because I'm probably going in with my bubble boy lighting build 😂
Best bet is to wait till dlc drops then figure out what you wanna do There’s gonna be a new attack power system as well as many new weapon types.
Does anyone know if the hyper armor gained from off hand great spear attacks gets applied while power stancing great spears since in order to power stance you have to have one in your off hand??
