This is such a crazy idea that I couldn't help laughing out loud, even though I've hear it before. The skill required to do this however, is just phenomenal.
Yes. I heard my first Spike Jones recording in grade school. It was hilarious. By the time I was in high school I knew a big portion of the success was the musicians.
Tommy Pederson was a great trombone player. When I've had to play really fast, I've flutter tongued with the middle of my tongue. The tune lays very well on the trombone in that key.
#Zachary Kaplan it is in fact double tongue. The piece is written in straight semiquavers. It would have to be triplet semiquavers to be triple tonguing.
I don't have the LP (or the CD) with me, but the album was about "High Fidelity" and ostensibly illustrated the advantages and defects and features of High Fidelity. It included such notables as "Duet for Violin and Garbage Disposal," "Pal-Yat-Chee," and "Flight of the Bumblebee" played by a trombonist with hay-fever. (High fidelity apparently brought out the image of the bumblebee flying about, so well that it came out like that.)
I think you're referring to the track "Jones Laughing Record", which features "Flight of the Bumblebee", along with the sneezing and laughter. I thought this was more of a live version of that, with the audience laughing instead of the recorded laughter.
I think he was referring to "dinner music for people who aren't very hungry" (it's on here somewhere) which does play a lot with hifi/stereo tricks explicitly stated as such.. Several numbers are on different albums in different versions. On that hi-fi album the bumble bee song is without laughter/cackle, and the Pal ia tchi is done by Betsy Gay instead of the usual guys. The Betsy Gay version is just perfect, but for the Bumble bee I prefer the version from another album because the laughter is just so over the top and infectious.
If you didn’t understand the sneezing, your kinda dumb. If your wondering, it’s because bees carry pollen and pollen “makes you sneeze”. It I may also be stupid. This is just what I think
My late mother in law used to call it The bum of the flighty bee.
never thought id see a trombone virtuoso. this guy is not of this world.

What made Spike Jones' humor so effective was the excellent musicianship.

I remember the great Al Hirt playing this piece on trumpet, but this is the first time seeing and hearing it on trombone. Both are wonderful.

Have never heard it done better, cleaner or faster. Pederson leaves the rest in the dust. Tonguing in hyperdrive.
An astonishing level of musicianship. And all done for laughs.
It shows that in order to play comedy, you have to extremely proficient in music! Extremely!
badass triple-tongue
not ever Tbone player can do this.... musicianship...
and the tempo got faster and faster and faster
Glenn Johnson Pure nostalgic brilliance!Fantastic musicianship!Brilliant TV.A million thanks!

My seasonal allergies are nowhere near this hilarious.
I'm late to your channel, but so glad I found you. Can't pick a favorite, they are all priceless. Thank you for sharing.
Should it be illegal to do that to a trombone? Amazing!
Depends what country you're in
LMAO NO IT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS
@@plunger9165 Thanks for drawing my attention back to this performance -- I needed the laugh and the awe.
Hey
I've heard it done on tuba

Oh my god... Is he like quadruple tounging.
It DOES sound exactly like a bumblebee!
TO THOSE IN THE KNOW THOSE NOTES ARE THEY 32ND THE POWER HE HAD TO KEEP IT GOING AND THE TIMING WONDERFULL
Loved Spike Jones. His songs one I can remember is Wild Bill Hicup.
Trombone is an excellent comedic...er...instrument (no pun intended). More people should be aware of this.

That’s actually really impressing :o
A top LA studio player!

Thank you, Spike Jr.
Very funny, very clever
dude goals
In the recording ("High Fidelity") it's the trombonist who has the hay fever, and sneezes.
Funny and excellent!
Did Victor Borge and Spike Jones ever play together?

Bravo!

Those were the days when musicians had real skills, musicality, humour, talent.

Do you have any recordings of Spike with his other orchestra, playing music straight?

Da Schneezin' Bee.
I’m thinking I’ve heard this before
All of Spike Jones's musicians were there the best musicians around. There will never be any musicians like them again.
At some point someone gave this song lyrics and it’s hilarious
SQUAREHEAD BOI
11 people hate good music.

piano dude:im just sneezing
If you didn’t understand the sneezing, your kinda dumb. If your wondering, it’s because bees carry pollen and pollen “makes you sneeze”. It I may also be stupid. This is just what I think
Buzz
Spike could be James Cagney's brother. They sure look alike.
Funny, but not nearly as funny as the record.
