If Leon were any cooler he'd have to be stored in a deep freezer. RIP, Sir and thank you so much for blessing my earholes with your unique talent. It's now 2024 and the world is basically a powder keg waiting to explode but listening to these gems puts my mind at ease, if only for a while.
Leon Redbone appeared out of the ether, fully formed, as a time traveler, showing us that who we are, is who we were. Then, once he saw he had secured the music's immortality, he slipped back into the eternal plane from whence he came.
Absolutely. Totally invented himself, and was "very secretive" about his origins and personal life. Bonnie Raitt said - "The Best Vocal Tone and Guitar playing" of anyone she knew. That's pretty high praise. RIP Leon.
Very well said my friend! The other day I came across an avid/rabid fan's DISGUST AT "REST IN PEACE" underneath yet another "moved elsewhere or into somebody else" - QUIT POSTING THIS SENTIMENTAL TWADDLE HE WROTE, I COULD HEAR HIS PEN SHOUT- his thoughts were like yours, ours- might have been David Ziggy Stardust Bowie- also a cosmic force to be reckoned with- or Jimi Hendrix- there he was in beaded suede, replete with fringe and a "bottleneck" on one finger, saying "hey mama where's my guitar...No, I don't want my soother! He sat in a chair by a table with a lamp and lit a cigar and sipped a glass of wine as if he was in his own living room and sang this among many others 45 years ago. We all loved every minute of it.
Just discovered Mr Redbone and am smitten. Discovering Mr Redbone at aged 66 is better late than never I guess. Listening to him constantly for the past few days has been blissful. What a character and what a talent. He transports me back to a gentler time and place. RIP and thank you sincerely Mr Redbone.
My mother loved him so I was exposed to him early & have loved him as well ever since. All his music especially the Xmas songs were instant classics 🥰🎶🎵
I'm about your age, Paul (I'm 66 now), and I once got to hear him live in Mishawaka, Indiana back in the early 80s. He had a way of getting people up dancing! Diddy Wah Diddy is the one that sticks in my mind.
I was just a little kid of five or six when I first heard this guy, and I've dug his sound for fifty odd years now. That's just proof that good tunes last.
I've loved this man's voice since I first heard it. He wreaks of masculinity and I fell in love with his easy, laid back voice and style! Leon Redbone you totally ROCK!
Loved Leon from the beginning on SNL. He lived about 2 hours away from me in Pa. His birth name was Dickran Gobalian and sang the song for the Mr. Belvedere and Harry and the Hendersons TV shows. Redbone was elusive about his origins, and never explained the origin of his stage name. He was born in Cyprus to Armenian parents. While living in Canada in the late 1960s, Redbone began performing in public at Toronto area nightclubs and folk music festivals. He met Bob Dylan at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1972. Dylan was so impressed by Redbone's performance that he mentioned it in a Rolling Stone interview, leading that magazine to do a feature article on Redbone a year before he had a recording contract. The article described his performances as "so authentic you can hear the surface noise of an old 78 rpm." Dylan said that if he had ever started a label, he would have signed Redbone. I like that Dylan liked him as well. RIP Leon, me and Bob miss you.
Been listening for over 30 yrs. My parrot loves this CD. We will miss you my dear sweet blues guy Heaven just go a whole lot of awesome with your talent
If you’re attributing that line to Mr. Scott, you’re incorrect. It originated from a Monday Night Football telecast when “Dandy” Don Meredith said it about Joe Montana. But, it was also true about Mr Redbone. RIP Sir.
I'm just starting to (and enjoying!) get into Leon Redbone's incredible music, although it was something I should have done 45+ years ago. I think it was around '76 or '77 when a dear friend of mine told me he was going on tour with Mr. Redbone and would be gone for some time. I didn't have a clue who Colin was playing with & at the time was into prog rock, so Leon & his music went by the wayside. My apologies to Colin & the late Mr. Redbone as I am now realizing what I had missed for all those years.
A certain class of us people loved this man. He knew how to relax and kick back..and didn't ever play in a second class situation...he was always 1st rate.. 1st class. RIP sir.
Back in the seventies our local cable company had a music show on Saturday night. Just a picture of the albums, they would play the hole recording. Great then. Not now.😮
Ah, Leon, I have enjoyed your music live and recorded for many decades now. Always a pleasure to listen to you. You will be greatly missed. Thanks for keep this wonderful music alive.
I lost my Dad three years ago back in March. We didn't get to spend much time together for most of my adult life, but when we got back together after many years apart, he was in his late 60's, I was in my early 30s, we found we both had your full catalog of records...DNA, ain't it great! Thank you for all your wonderful music, it and of course you will always have a special place in my heart and my life. God speed and rest them "Lazy Bones"
Many "tanks" foda memories Mr. Redbone , for dredging the wonderment of the 30's and 20's to all of us and even to yourself as well !! You be a true original .... Now it is time for us 60/70 year old folks to kick back wit a soft pillow on the rocker out on the porch in the late afternoon to snooze/relax... "snoozalax" ? ..... lifeisbutadream .....
Mr. Redbone ever since your first appearance on SNL, I have appreciated and loved your voice and song styling. You have been one bright light in a sometimes dark life, and it has been my pleasure to listen to your songs. Thank you for your recordings and appearances on television, whenever you graced my viewing habits, it was with great joy.
I found this man's music in the late 80's. I purchased all of it that I could find. You were missed when you quit recording a few years ago, but now it is a final play of all the tunes just to remember that grand baritone voice! May God enjoy your music as much as I have!
Well Verner thanks for making me cry. Mr Redbone, I won't say RIP either but add my wishes to Verner's that your wonderful music and voice will give pleasure to the One who created you as you sing to Him, and that you never run out of songs or music...somehow I don't think that will happen. ❤️
Seen him on SNL in the 70's while in my mid 20's my parents laughed at me like I was an idiot, since they were a product of the 1920's and were very ignorant and uneducated. Sure they meant well but very stupid as well, my 32 year old daughter loves the Beatles who were around well before she was. That was thanks to me her loving dad.
I fell in love the first time I saw him on Saturday Night Live. I was just out of High School I thought he was handsome . Still do. was lucky enough to see him live, in a crowded bar in the flats in Cleveland. I was still in my 20's Treasured memory
I used to get the giggles, visioning Leon checking into a hotel for a gig. "Hello Mr Redbone. Wecome back to the Chelsea. Your same room as usual?" And all yo'u'd hear back is that mumbly drone of his "mmmm yes....."
When my daughter was a toddler, she thought LR's name was Neon Headbone. That name has stuck with our family now. :) We love Leon/Neon over here in Asheville NC.
Only got to enjoy Mr. Redbone's music via video, cassettes, CDs, and vinyl. You were blessed to see the man in person. God bless your parents. He is truly an iconic musician. God bless you Leon.
tom burns, I only got to see him live once, but it was a concert I'll never forget. He was opening for John Prine outdoors in Rock Creek Park in Washington D.C. (where in the park I don't remember except that it wasn't a permanent music venue, just a temporary stage in a field) and I was about 50-75 feet away. He sat in a big comfy chair made for a living room with a table next to him that held a lamp and a big ashtray. Pitch dark, outdoors and, my memory says, only the light of the lamp on him. He was as cool as cool can be, he sounded as wonderful as always and no matter how many songs he played, it wasn't enough.
On this track let's not overlook the great Joe Venuti who, back in the early 1930s, made some of the very greatest ever ragtime/hot jazz duets with his friend the pioneering guitarist Eddie Lang. If you enjoy Leon Redbone, seek out the jazz masters from the '30s -- like he did.
One of the few performers my late father and I enjoyed equally. Thank you for bringing back such pleasant memories. It's almost like he's sitting on the end of the couch, just while the music plays.
Too cool for school. Mr. Redbone was the smoothest also. Ragtime, Vaudville crossed to make his own unique genera. He was one of a kind. Rest in Cool, Leon Redbone. 😎

As sweet, slow, and cool as the bubbles in my beer. Love this man’s music.
I absolutely agree with you, best explanation of the effects Leon’s singing!!
I was just a little kid of five or six when I first heard this guy, and I've dug his sound for fifty odd years now.

Leon passed away today. God speed, brother. You were one of a kind, artistic in every way. Thanks for the memories.
Dude, I was wondering if he was still with us. What got him.
@@michaelmcneely6143 Wikipedia reports his demise in 2019 as being from dementia. Very sad.
My Dad loved to listen to him and I do now.RIP❤
I’ve tried to explain to people countless times, and it’s actually a very simple formula. Beach+Joint+Rebone=Bliss.
The world is a little less cool today. Thank you Mr. Redbone. Tip of the hat to you, sir.

Absolutely. Masculine but not macho. So attractive.
Taking me back to some of the best bits of my life. Still listening forty years later because magic doesn't happen as often as I would wish.
A man who knew the sweet spot and played it directly and correctly.
Mr. Redbone....I know that the road has been long. But I want you to know that your music has made MY road a lot easier. THANK YOU
thanks for that.
