Tbh as someone who lifts weights and also studies anatomy PS4 Spiderman is probably one of the better ones we've gotten. Compression clothes have a tendency to make most people look smaller and from a costuming perspective a lot of live action superheroes will have foam/latex muscles glued into their suit to reduce shrinkage (Henry Cavill's Superman is an excellent example where veins and arm muscles are added onto the suit, which is saying a lot considering how big he is naturally). Spidey's physique to me has always been more reminiscent of a gymnast who require both strength and flexibility in their muscles, they tend to look leaner and more aerodynamic as a result but are still incredibly strong. I'd recommend looking up pictures of male gymnasts and ballerinas to get an idea of what a realistic peak Spiderman physique would look like. 4:14 & IRON MAN AS WELL (Josh physically is IDENTICAL to 616 Tony Stark, he even has the blue eyes, also, if you read this, please take a look to IRON MAN VR, is a Masterpiece)
For me, Insomniac's Spider-Man has the perfect physique. Spider-Man has to have muscles, sure, but he also has to be able to be flexible to achieve those impossible swinging poses. Insomniac's Spider-Man hits all the spots for me, he manages to show off enough muscle for me to believe he's very strong but also has a slightly leaner physique for me to believe he's capable of being very flexible too. I can say the same about MCU Spider-Man's physique, for me both are perfect.
I like to think than when Spider-Man received his powers he remained skinny (the same size he was pre-spider bite, but with more strength). But, overtime, from swinging and fighting he developed more and more muscle, but not muscles like a body builder, but muscles like a swimmer or a runner.
Runners and swimmers don’t have muscles they’re just lean bro. You could do push ups and pull-ups for a month and be bigger than a runner or swimmer. I think Spiderman should have a top level gymnast physique, it would make sense for his arms to grow big cuz he’s always using them to swing.
I love 90's Peter. He's so hilariously jacked. Godzilla Mendoza pointed this out too. Everyone's like "parker? Spider-man? That Wimp!? Nonsense!" And then peter walks in built like a truck, and he's clearly like 6'2", he got bowling balls for biceps and a jaw chiseled out of stone.
I want to thank this channel for covering every single possible dangling thought I’ve ever had about Spider-Man, and turning it into video essay form, thank you.
I like when Peter looks muscular but not too jacked. In my opinion he should be more of an unassuming guy that most villains and even other heroes tend to underestimate, then they're stunned when they first see all of what he can actually do. It would also make more sense with his ability to blend into crowds and make people scoff at the suggestion of Peter Parker being Spider-Man.
I agree that Spidey should be depicted as more buff more often, especially in stories where it's an older, more experienced Peter. But he should be buff like a gymnast is buff. Large shoulders that Dorito down into a tone core for all that swinging around. He would probably have decently large legs from all the jumping as well.
It really just depends on the universe. In the mcu he’s 5’7 135-145 pounds. But in the comics and video games he usually 5’10 165-170 pounds. Not only that spectacular Spider-Man is 5’6 135 pound 16 year old and he has an ok slim build.
This is actually an awesome video for a topic, and it’s something I’ve always noticed. Even just the differences between the way Steve Ditko drew Spidey and John Romita felt pretty different considering they’re the same guy
He's more like a lanky Lean muscle build which makes sense because most of his fighting style is flashy dropkicks, high kicks and a lotta acrobatics which requires a lot of flexibility
I prefer Peter to be more lean and slim but still ripped when he’s a teenager and then as he gets older, he puts on more muscle mass similar to the 90’s animated series. I think that just makes the most sense to me.
One of my favorite buff Spider-Man designs is the ultimate Spider-Man from the Disney XD series. Despite that show being kid friendly and not having blood, just like in the ultimate comics, It's at least better than Marvel Spider-Man 2017.
@@ihavenoclevername8300 I meant to say ultimate Spider-Man is better than Marvel Spider-Man 2017. But do not worry, I still love Spider-Man TNAS and spectacular Spider-Man and I always prefer the ultimate comics over the cartoon.
I love how Spectacular Spider-Man looks, his build is skinny wich i personally enjoy better, but the art style is what makes it looks even cooler, everything is just shaped so nicely, and altough that deviates from the topic a little, i love the shape of his head when he's masked
I probably gotta give it to JRJR, Mark Bagley, and Peter B as a three way tie for my definitive Spidey Look. Those Spideys really looked graceful enough to swing through The Air yet Strong enough to at least survive a fight with The Hulk. Great Video as usual, Man.
I love in web of shadows how Peter is built like a minecraft skeleton because it complements the apocalyptic symbiote outbreak. Peter wouldn’t have any time to eat and the game takes place over a week
For me here's how I'd go about Spidey build 17-20: skinnier and lanky, similar to the very early ditko run it ultimate Spidey 21-25: bulkier, a lot closer to the romita sr style 25- till retirement or death: same build as 90s cartoon, very bulky and a lot more built
I love leaner Spider-Man but with some muscle. I’ve never been a fan of big Spider-Man like the 90s cartoon. John Romita JRs art is a good example of what I mean when I say lean and muscular Spider-Man.
I like his more slightly bulkier build, I feel it makes us forget how strong spider-man really is so when he pulls some impressive feats it's actually surprising
In the main continuity he went from skinny to slim-ripped after the bite then started bulking a bit in his later years after high school but he’s always maintained the slender build as it makes more sense in his movements, acrobatics and the aerodynamics of his character and abilities. I feel like it would be more of an inconvenience to be beefy as shit trying to swing around the city. It also fits the character in the aspect of a Spider being able to lift up to 120 times their body weight despite being so small. On the scale of a 150 pound human they would be able to lift up to 12.5 tons max without effort. Which we later see Peter exceeding easily when he bulks up and the ratio increases.
i personally think Spider-Man is best when he’s drawn in a leaner body type. Mark Bagley drawing him as an adult is the best version imo i also think Insomniac’s version is pretty good too, not buff like dwayne johnson but not malnourished enough to be considered skinny. He also seems to have bigger muscles in the trailer so it seems like he’ll still be lean while gaining size. Similar to Austin Dunham you’re right when you say you don’t know enough about body type and fitness, i wouldn’t say i’m an expert either but i’d def say it’d make more sense for him to not be buff. A buff body builder spider-man would never make sense considering the character is 1) supposed to look like the average man when he has clothes on 2) is very much an acrobat and extremely flexible, those types of physiques are built with very little body fat and an extremely lean body think about it logically, compare a body like arnold schwarzenegger to someone like Tom Holland. Who would you most likely assume is capable of doing 3 summersaults, 5 backflips and be light on his feet mid fight. maybe it’s just a hot take (i’m full of em) but i never liked the buff spidey design. Didn’t like it in the old ASM issues, 94 cartoon or wherever else etc
I also like the dichotomy of skinnier Spider-Men (Peter and Miles), compareed to the more traditionally built, buffer superheroes. To me, it's part of the reason why Spider-Man is so special, because he is an example of the many different body types and body inclusivity you can have with superheroes, that I feel is left out sometimes.
You should see how he was drawn in the old comics against Venom, he was jacked. Believe it or not, it’s easier to do things when you have muscles. Doing flips is more skill oriented and has nothing to do with your build. Neither does flexibility, look at someone like Jujimufu. It’s easier to do things like jump higher and run faster when your legs have more muscle. Venom can do just about anything Spiderman can do if not better, another example. He’s just skinny in most iterations cuz he’s a nerd and the writers tried to make him more relatable.
Yeah the skinny/lean build always made sense to me considering his flexibility and powerset. Same with Reed Richards. I always imagined him skinny and lean-ish cause it fits his elasticity and him being a scientist. Whenever I see him ripped out and buff like other superheroes I just roll my eyes.
Just one thing you seem to have forgot, and that's the fact that he is superhuman. His build wouldn't necessarily limit his flexibility or speed by any means, at least not to a big extent compared to a normal human. Also, there are a lot of buff gymnastic guys and dancers as well, so i don't see your point.
I love the lean, buff Bagley Spidey with the big lenses. It just completes a bug-like, almost inhuman theme for Spider-Man that I really enjoy. Slap Josh Keaton there who can cover many different ages of Spider-Man naturally and call it a day. Although I agree with every point made on Yuri, I wish the suit showed more definition. It's one reason to go full Undies.
Sean Marquette's voice for Spider-Man is honestly so iconic, and super nostalgic for me. I grew up playing Ultimate Spider-Man, and I loved that game so much.
10:15 "anyways let's get back to the cartoons" 0.5 seconds later: "THIS IS A BIG MOTHERFUCKER" the change from a calm voice to shouting jumpscared me 💀
Really glad you talked about this topic. I agree on your comment about Miles Morales Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man, in that as the skinny Spider-Man ages, he should gain more muscle. I like the dichotomy between a "skinnier" Miles Spider-Man and a more muscular Peter Parker mentor. I think the main reason I usually don't like a "buffer" Spider-Man is because I find that the fact that Peter/Miles is a "skinnier"/leaner teenager with not as much muscle mass, contrasts well against other more traditionally built, older superheroes. I definitely agree with your points on Spider-Man voice acting, and I LOVE the Prodigy motion-comics! I think its important that as Peter ages his voice transitions from a nasally, very New York accent ( Prodigy Ultimate Spider-Man), to a more mature voice (Barnes, Lowenthal). Loved that someone finally talked about this topic. Love you and your videos, one of the best Spider-Man content creators right now. Keep it up!
Romita JR's Spidey looks great imo!! Then again I'm a sucker for JMS's run and JRJR's art in that run so I'm just a smidge biased LMAO (I only re-read that run four times this year--) ALSO the long outros are a vibe, the more tangents the better! lmao
Web of Shadows is built really well, from what I remember. I think his leanness is what does it for me. Edge of time and shattered dimension are around the same type, and I love those too. They’re built like classic bulky spidey.
4:50 Josh Keaton was actually originally hired to voice Spider-Man in the 2002 movie tie-in game -- several years before Spectacular Spider-Man -- since the developers weren't sure if they'd be able to convince Tobey (or any of the movie cast) to reprise their roles for the game. He actually already recorded a good bit of that game's Spidey dialogue before being replaced w/ Tobey and has shared some of it on his Twitter IIRC. But Keaton's still in the game as the voice of Harry Osborn (who got a whole "New Game+" run where you play as Harry with the Goblin glider/gear -- and that reuses some of his original Spidey dialogue.)
Completely agree with Miles needing more muscle in ATSV. He's supposed to be like 16 now and he's been doing this for a couple of years yet he looks like a twig. My favorite build for Peter is definitely 90's Bagley.
He really doesn’t look like a twig you have to be blind to not notice that he looks bigger I mean he looks great and if he’s still a teenage he should be skinny muscular teenagers will always look weird
Mark Bagley's Spider-Man from the 90s was straight up perfect. The exact in between of buff and slim, I wish he stayed that way for Amazing Spider-Man nowadays
Peter B Parker might just be the perfect Spider-Man body type for me at least, like GAHD DAYUM my man’s is absolutely JACKED in his arms, legs, and chest. But not too big, still lean enough for the whole spider acrobatics thing. And him simultaneously also having a dad bod with all that is what makes this pretty much favorite Spidey❤️💗💕(among the writing, voice acting, and everything else I love about him ❤️💗💕)
I'm personally a fan of Todd McFarlane's spiderman. I like him best when he's drawn in odd poses. I suppose it's a skinnier body type, but he's shown to he extremely flexible and I think that's what I like about it.
I think spiderman should be a athlete in therms of body type (is somewhat skinny but he has a muscles) since the problem i find with buff spiderman (like TAS) is that you don't wonder why people thinks he spiderman while he looks equally as buff as him
Spider-Man The Animated Series is my favorite. You don’t need to make him a twig, Spider-Man’s going to be doing acrobatics no matter what, so he’s still going to appear flexible and agile even if he’s well built, so take the best of both worlds and give Spider-Man a little weight behind his attacks. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone make Spider-Man too hulked out so I’m not too worried about the other extreme.
But that built wouldn’t work for a teenage spider-man so it depends but I like it for an adult spider-man also it bothers me that with that built we never saw that spider-man through a punch it’s stupid But also something I saw no one talked about is how the ultimate spider-man cartoon design looks like a modern 90s spider-man with his body type

I still think Insomniac Spidey has the best body type. He looks as bulky and strong as he should be, but as lean and athletic as he is. He really looks like he could do all those crazy acrobatics we see Spider-Man usually do. And as you said, Yuri's voice fits it very well. (Josh physically is IDENTICAL to 616 Tony Stark, he even has the blue eyes, also, if you read this, please take a look to IRON MAN VR, is a Masterpiece)
MCU Spider-Man and the new remastered Spider-Man are really similar in all aspects.
Playing with MCU suits in the game doesn't even look of place.
You can be flexible at bigger physiques, it just takes more training.
I like to think than when Spider-Man received his powers he remained skinny (the same size he was pre-spider bite, but with more strength). But, overtime, from swinging and fighting he developed more and more muscle, but not muscles like a body builder, but muscles like a swimmer or a runner.
Thats actually what happens. You can find a reddit where someone points it out in the Ditko run😂
@@no.1spidey-fan182 I know bro. I´ve read that whole run a couple of times.
Runners and swimmers don’t have muscles they’re just lean bro. You could do push ups and pull-ups for a month and be bigger than a runner or swimmer. I think Spiderman should have a top level gymnast physique, it would make sense for his arms to grow big cuz he’s always using them to swing.
@@naturalgains4229 That's not true, swimmers have wide shoulders and trapezius, runners have big thighs and calves
He'd develop more muscle mass than a runner or swimmer, particularly in his back
PSM's sense of humor never ceases to make me laugh. Like this for example: 10:17. Bro just called him a monster truck, lmao.
I feel like the best build for Spidey has always been sort of a male gymnast build, especially due to how flexible and strong he is
Male gymnasts are pretty damn big, though. Except in the legs department.
Original comics he was a bodybuilder with tricking talent. Best spidey in my opinion
I can imagine a really buff Spiderman but I can’t imagine a really buff Peter Parker
I want to thank this channel for covering every single possible dangling thought I’ve ever had about Spider-Man, and turning it into video essay form, thank you.
Ultimate Spider Man literally has Bruce Lee’s body and I love it. He has the best body type in my opinion
My favorite spiderman is miles morales. It shows how nerdy he is and the teenager inside of that super strength type body.
I think insomniac’s Spider-Man is the perfect Spider-Man body type, he’s athletic while also looking fairly muscular.
10:35 THE DUDE IS BIGGER THAN IRONMAN WITH FUCKING ARMOR 😂😂
Fit Spidey: Yuri Lowenthal voice
Dad bod Spidey: Jake Johnson
Too buff Spidey: Interrogation mode voice
I like when Peter looks muscular but not too jacked.
In my opinion he should be more of an unassuming guy that most villains and even other heroes tend to underestimate, then they're stunned when they first see all of what he can actually do.
It would also make more sense with his ability to blend into crowds and make people scoff at the suggestion of Peter Parker being Spider-Man.
Also giving him too much bulk would ruin his spider swinging when you think about it,peter has the perfect build in most stories.
And what about The 94 show?
@@the-hero-of-twilight In TAS he's 7 feet and 600 pounds of PURE MUSCLE.

This is actually an awesome video for a topic, and it’s something I’ve always noticed. Even just the differences between the way Steve Ditko drew Spidey and John Romita felt pretty different considering they’re the same guy
He's more like a lanky Lean muscle build which makes sense
because most of his fighting style is flashy dropkicks, high kicks and a lotta acrobatics which requires a lot of flexibility
I prefer Peter to be more lean and slim but still ripped when he’s a teenager and then as he gets older, he puts on more muscle mass similar to the 90’s animated series. I think that just makes the most sense to me.
“Their pretty good ig” best way I’d describe talking about the other live Spider-Man’s
I think Miles build works really well for the new movie because he’s kind of in between inexperience and getting the hang of it, you know
Idk what Capcom was thinking for their designs in MvC Infinite, but they gave Spider-Man the Jojo treatment cause he was so goddamn buff
i think pete should stay slim and muscular because it fits his acrobatic fighting style
For me ditko era spidey is the best build for early high school Peter, and adult Peter looking like rami spider man is just perfect.
One of my favorite buff Spider-Man designs is the ultimate Spider-Man from the Disney XD series. Despite that show being kid friendly and not having blood, just like in the ultimate comics, It's at least better than Marvel Spider-Man 2017.
……get out
Wait do you mean that bad show or the hood game??? I need to know!!!
@@UltimateSpiderMan No worries, I still prefer the ultimate comics then the cartoon.
@@ihavenoclevername8300 I meant to say ultimate Spider-Man is better than Marvel Spider-Man 2017. But do not worry, I still love Spider-Man TNAS and spectacular Spider-Man and I always prefer the ultimate comics over the cartoon.

@@ihavenoclevername8300 Yeah that's what I mean, So no worries.
I love how Spectacular Spider-Man looks, his build is skinny wich i personally enjoy better, but the art style is what makes it looks even cooler, everything is just shaped so nicely, and altough that deviates from the topic a little, i love the shape of his head when he's masked

90s animated Spiderman is so ridiculously huge I love it lololol.
Bruh is a truck.
I probably gotta give it to JRJR, Mark Bagley, and Peter B as a three way tie for my definitive Spidey Look. Those Spideys really looked graceful enough to swing through The Air yet Strong enough to at least survive a fight with The Hulk. Great Video as usual, Man.
Who’s Peter B?
Also, it’s kinda interesting how John Romita sr.’s Spidey has probably the most canonical look, yet JRJR’s look is so different.
Reminds me of the 90s cartoon where Peter was just a big dude and it was noticeable lol
"i really love how he is shaped" like AYO?!
I love in web of shadows how Peter is built like a minecraft skeleton because it complements the apocalyptic symbiote outbreak. Peter wouldn’t have any time to eat and the game takes place over a week
I love Spiderman being buff , bcz he is a super human he should be muscular so that's why Raimi Spiderman and Spiderman 90s body are best IMO
For me here's how I'd go about Spidey build
17-20: skinnier and lanky, similar to the very early ditko run it ultimate Spidey
21-25: bulkier, a lot closer to the romita sr style
25- till retirement or death: same build as 90s cartoon, very bulky and a lot more built
If I get to create my version of Spiderman in any form of media!
I'll make him Immortal always in his 25 yrs of age.
the 90's cartoon version is about 19-20 lol
Oh man, you’re using Coffin Nails as a background, music huge respect for knowing MF DOOM
i personally think Spider-Man is best when he’s drawn in a leaner body type. Mark Bagley drawing him as an adult is the best version imo
i also think Insomniac’s version is pretty good too, not buff like dwayne johnson but not malnourished enough to be considered skinny. He also seems to have bigger muscles in the trailer so it seems like he’ll still be lean while gaining size. Similar to Austin Dunham
you’re right when you say you don’t know enough about body type and fitness, i wouldn’t say i’m an expert either but i’d def say it’d make more sense for him to not be buff. A buff body builder spider-man would never make sense considering the character is
1) supposed to look like the average man when he has clothes on
2) is very much an acrobat and extremely flexible, those types of physiques are built with very little body fat and an extremely lean body
think about it logically, compare a body like arnold schwarzenegger to someone like Tom Holland.
Bro read the whole book and still missed the main point lmfao
SO glad you mentioned Prodigy's Ultimate Spidey dub! It really deserves way more attention!
Edge of time Spider-Man is a big boy
I want somebody to talk about my body with the same energy this man talks about Raimi Spider-man
imo Spider-Man should have the body type of a gymnast, those dudes are massive but they show you can move very well regardless of how buff you are
90s Black Cat is the reason I have a muscle Mommy fetish.
Honestly i prefer skinny cause it make him stand out compared to other superheros
(Edit : i mean like ultimate spiderman buuf skinny)

the change from a calm voice to shouting jumpscared me 💀
Really glad you talked about this topic.
Keep it up!
no matter how buff spider-man is he will never be as much of an absolute unit as kingpin in into the spider verse
Romita JR's Spidey looks great imo!! Then again I'm a sucker for JMS's run and JRJR's art in that run so I'm just a smidge biased LMAO (I only re-read that run four times this year--)
ALSO the long outros are a vibe, the more tangents the better! lmao
I wanted your opinion on Spider-Man web of shadows, edge of time and dimensions physique
Web of Shadows is built really well, from what I remember. I think his leanness is what does it for me. Edge of time and shattered dimension are around the same type, and I love those too. They’re built like classic bulky spidey.
I like when Spider-Man is buff as hell because he's more relatable for me. I look exactly like the 90's animated Peter.
sure… but no
I think Andrew just needs more muscles, but I love how lanky he is
4:50
Josh Keaton was actually originally hired to voice Spider-Man in the 2002 movie tie-in game -- several years before Spectacular Spider-Man -- since the developers weren't sure if they'd be able to convince Tobey (or any of the movie cast) to reprise their roles for the game.
10:00 when you pixelized the picture it just make it cursed as f
I don’t know why but this video just genuinely made me happy from all of the jokes in it

I hate spider-man poses where it looks like he’s opening all of his asshole
Yuri Lowenthal is like the perfect voice for Spider-man. He’s like an amalgamation of every cartoon Spider-man before him in one.
I think spiderman should be a athlete in therms of body type (is somewhat skinny but he has a muscles) since the problem i find with buff spiderman (like TAS) is that you don't wonder why people thinks he spiderman while he looks equally as buff as him
seeing Spider Man talk with Chris Redfield is just so funny
I really like Tobeys build, he looks strong but not to the point where he would stand out as Peter Parker.
One of my favorite Spider-Man builds was from Peter's web(fan film) you can see the shoulders and chest pop out and he looks amazing
But that built wouldn’t work for a teenage spider-man so it depends but I like it for an adult spider-man also it bothers me that with that built we never saw that spider-man through a punch it’s stupid
But also something I saw no one talked about is how the ultimate spider-man cartoon design looks like a modern 90s spider-man with his body type

Peter B. Parker is peak spider-man design.
Sean Marquette is up there with Yuri and Josh for Spiderman voices. After playing the game as a kid growing up and later reading the comics I literally couldn't get his voice out of my head whenever Peter was saying something in a panel.
I’m curious to know your opinions on the body types of the 70’s American and Japanese Spider-Men
Yuri , Josh and CDB are my favorites
Spider-Man NEEDS to be skinny and lanky because
1. He's a goddamn spider
2.He had horror origins and that body type is associated with horror
@@Obsidianchik-x4q exactly. We need a 30 something Spider-Man already. Give us Parker industries. Show us Peter teaching. Give us a more rounded, matured Spider-Man
he is strong and can lift trucks + he’s a superhero

Personally I think they made Miles so exaggeratedly skinny to contrast from 2099s bulkier adaptation in the movie. Probably the same reason they kept the 2099 suit blue.
Mmmmmm that could be it

I still think Insomniac Spidey has the best body type. He looks as bulky and strong as he should be, but as lean and athletic as he is. He really looks like he could do all those crazy acrobatics we see Spider-Man usually do. And as you said, Yuri's voice fits it very well. Furthermore, he really does look like a Spider-Man in his early twenties
But his Peter Parker unrealistically doesn’t have sideburns at all it always bothered me it doesn’t make sense
