    For this in depth review we drive the brand new Kia Stinger GT. I had driven the Kia Stinger at SEMA VERY briefly but it was time to get a full review. With a 365 hp twin turbo V6 this kia stinger could totally hold it's own against some turbo heavyweights like the cobalt ss turbo, BMW 335i, and much more. The Kia Stinger will go down in the history books as the big attempt made my South Korean companies to make a respectable four door sports sedan. Thanks for watching!

    Got this car few months ago, definitely a mind blower. got a great discount, drove better than the bmw i tested, quicker and better handling while 15k less $$$. more interior room, cargo space, LOOKS BETTER at least to me. i've seen 4.5 0-60 stock, though it is officially a 4.7 car. Thats a legit fast on any car, older M3's were as fast. The power comes on very quickly, smooth and oceans worth of torque. easy speed. awesome daily driver... can't get enough of it. Great review!

      VtecGoesBwaahh When the Stinger finally showed up at the dealer I worked at... Well... There was lots of excitement. It ended up not being just hype. The car goes. It REALLY goes. It drives quite nicely too (especially for the tire profile.) In the next 2 years we will see how the whole car really holds up though. Props to those making the jump and buying a Stinger. First generations of anything always have the most problems. Looking forward to what reveals itself.

      VtecGoesBwaahh zero after market options and no good pocket tuning community. Car guys want a car with big aftermarket support.

    • @JONNYGEEKMANG
      @JONNYGEEKMANG 6 років тому +9

      No new platform has good aftermarket support really. Within a matter of weeks this car had plug in chips that up the boost. It now has ecu tuning(still limited to around 18psi) catch cans, front mount intercoolers with charge piping. Intakes and turbo back exhaust systems(maybe just TorkM) but there are several cat backs out. I don't really know what more aftermarket support you're looking for, it's building very quickly on a new platform. I believe coil over kits and air bag kits are already out as well. Factory lsds with extremely low miles are already floating around online. The larger brake setups are already being sold second hand. Do some research you'll find they've already made 450whp with this car. I know for a fact 400+awhp is attainable on the awd version with intakes, spark plugs, and a tune plus more tq to boot. The car is also basically in the 11s with minimal bolt ons and a tune on pump gas(even stock tires). So were at 500 hp at the crank basically. What else are you looking for man? Basically no one has been developing aftermarket stuff for this car for more then 6-7 months.

    • @alexstromberg7696
      @alexstromberg7696 6 років тому +3

      SlowcarsInc he wants the 2jz aftermarket.. like that you can go to random car shop number 45 and buy everything to get 1000hp. Moronic Americans that always has to have bolt ons. Here we just build everything we need or find someone that can help.

    • @marlinwasp2551
      @marlinwasp2551 6 років тому

      Alex Strömberg the best tuners in the world are nearly all American or all American based it's where the car Industry lives also I'm not American. The genesis has been out for a while now and has shit aftermarket support hence when you ask why people traded them in for something like a brz or mustang which have huge aftermarket support they'll tell you it's just not a well supported platform.

    If I had the Kia Stinger in a lineup with any Audi or BMW and someone said I could choose one, I'd choose the stinger. Some people stray away from the badge, but that's honestly part of the appeal. It's way cooler to have a Kia that outperforms everyone's expectations than to have another car that's nice, but more of the same tbh

    • @BerserkFury89
      @BerserkFury89 4 роки тому

      Probably helps that the stinger is also $10k+ cheaper than equivalently specked audi or bmw.

  • @mazda_miata_
    @mazda_miata_ 6 років тому +12

    People are giving the Stinger way too much shit for being a Kia. Honesty you have to disregard that it’s a Kia and just pay attention to how it drives. I feel like people nowadays (especially gearheads) are paying more attention to the brand name than the performance. This thing drives great, “but it’s a Kia”. It looks awesome, “but it’s a Kia”. It’s a fantastic bargain, “but it’s a Kia”. Lamborghini began with making tractors and is now a world renowned supercar manufacturer; give Kia a chance and they can do the same. Not saying they’ll make a supercar but if they have the balls to do a sports car right now, there’s a chance later on they’ll make something crazier

    I went to the Kia Stinger Experience back in March, and I got to test the BMW 650i and a Porsche Panamera, and this takes the cake for sure. The BMW felt a tad more comfortable, but was certainly more boaty and floaty. The stinger was still super comfortable, but melted faces. Great driver feedback and super controlled feeling and loved a good thrash. 10/10 recommend

My MPG was 22.9 at speeds no lower than 80 and we hit the speed limiter on the interstate. I have owned Hyundai and KIA products since 2003 and have never been disappointed. I did love my Gen CP Rspec V6 but I love my Stinger more. It's a lot of car for ur $$. Also I'd have to say that it looks more like the Audi A7 than the Panamera.

I really enjoy this car and am anxious to get it on the autobahn once it arrives in Germany where I am now stationed. I did get it up to 165 mph easily on the highways of Texas. I never expect comments on any car I own but this car in the first month I had it has drawn a vast amount of attention. It is a comfortable and versatile car with a great bang for the buck for the features in comparison to many other brands. The aftermarket is plentiful with quite a few companies offering upgrades.

    I'm just at the beginning of the video, but if you told me say, a decade ago Kia would make a sporty executive sedan I'd have scoffed.
    But, I remember reading articles about it a few months ago. They tested it, and told the engineers to make he exhaust louder for the state's. Which, perplexed the engineers, but they complied. Which, says to me they're getting it. I mean, even SK cars from 5 years ago stepped it up big time, at least for the average consumer.
    As a person from Michigan, I'm a little conflicted, and a dyed-in-the-wool big 3 fan but...can't fault the coming twin turbo V6 dethroning the V8...can't fault the foreign marques for getting it right, and duking it out on equal footing with the established American companies.
    Competition is fierce, and necessary for all of the business. Cheers to Kia!

      Nathan Chapman W2G man! My first automotive job was with a Kia dealer. I stayed with the manufacturer for 6 years (2012-18) and can definitely say that all the changes they decided to make from 2008-2010 have definitely paid off. Decisions that were made back then are showing themselves very strongly finally and paying off in big ways for Hyundai/Kia. I'm no longer with the manufacturer, but, as a comparison, I'd take a Kia over a Subaru (I worked for a Subaru dealer for a short time.) Kia's (post 2006) are very reliable. Before then... >_> just don't bother. And don't bother with a Kia Rio until the... 12 or 13 model year. Yeah, just don't. Also, if you're a tech or do any service work, you are going to LOVE their diagnostic scanner. Topnotch. I love it. Surprisingly HIGHLY capable AND it runs on an Android tablet.

      How do you equate for the rubbish quality of the Stinger then, paint chipping on at least 2 of the colours , rattling door inserts and sunroof , in one case even a piece fell off the rear vision mirror whilst driving. Comparing this to Genesis it is no contest. Genesis is just much better put together inside and out. If i was ever to buy a Korean car i would definitely skip KIA. They just try to disguise poor workmanship in try hard flashy designs copied off other car makers.

      DEVILTAZ35 Genesis is just a luxury Hyundai/Kia. If that's the extent of the problems we see in the first 2 whole years of the Stinger's existence, I'd say it's a win for Kia. That drivetrain is where the money's at.

      hans Rougher ride than most cars in that segment (compact car.) Even a Honda Civic (smaller wheel base, I believe) rides better than a first gen Forte (2010-2013.) That being said, the engine and trans have proven to be quite reliable (over all of the Fortes I remember servicing.) They seem to be going for quite cheap as well. If you want a newer (even though it may be a 10 or 13 MY) vehicle, and you have just some cash go for a Kia Forte. It's one of those super common vehicles now that I believe they will be showing up in junk yards soon enough to harvest parts if you're on a budget. I would definitely recommend a first gen Forte as a daily vehicle for city drivers on a lower budget than most. Serviceability on those cars is also quite easy in comparison to certain others.

If you are going to have red seating why isn't the centre console armrest colour matched for a start? > Why isn't the tablet like screen foldable instead of being stuck in the middle like an afterthought. The back of front seats are just horrible plastic. Under the metal top of the centre console is all just rubbish plastic as well right down to the floor.
      Why doesn't the leather carry from centre console to dash so it goes better with the design? The steering wheel also looks like a toy from a department store.

    I only knew 2 people who owned 90’s Kias before I was even a car guy. But based off riding in them and the amount of problems those people had I said I would never consider that brand.
    I bought a new Elantra commuter in 2013. They rebranded themselves, and marketed the 10yr/100k warranty, because let’s be honest, anyone that knew the reputation was worried it would fail before then.
    The price was right, the amenities for the price was more than I could get elsewhere, and they made a claim no other manufacturer will.
    I think there is hope.

    Recently owned a sport limited addition Optima which had the smaller motor which is the standard option for the Stinger. It too was very fun to drive and quick with really nice leather interior etc... A few months after purchasing it my dealership brought the Stinger in which was in a league of its own. For those that haven't seen this car let alone driven a newer Optima with the sport package you are missing out. For the price point you'll be hard pressed to find something else in its class that offers what the Kia brand is bringing to the industry.

    Great move, was very surprised with the Kia cars 3 years ago when I met my wife. She had a reg optima that was nice for the price point. We test drove 1 of the turbo models and it was a completely different car fealing. Seen the stinger at the dealership a couple of times. Was almost our next car but with starting a family we decided to go suv. They build a beautiful luxury model called the k900. Absolutely beautiful interior. Has 400hp I believe also out of their v8. Would be a great one to review

    *Hey David! My mom and I just purchased a brand new 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD Today! We Love the car and we were blown away by the options and utter speed of the car. (Especially since it's a Kia) The amount of options on this car completely surpass brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes at this price point. It would be equivalent to a $100,000 BMW. It has been rated to beet everything in its class besides the $130,000 Porsche Panamera. We love the car and can't wait to experience everything it has to offer! (Let me know if you see this comment)*

      Charlie G lmao you’re kidding yourself if you think the stinger has more options than the German counterparts. I get it, you couldn’t afford a C43, or 435GC, but don’t think your car can live up to the standards of the merc or bmw, or Audi for that matter.

    • @Shadow02Playz
      @Shadow02Playz 6 років тому +7

      Don't tell me what I can and can't afford. You don't know anything about me. Furthermore, the Kia stinger out classes all of it's rivals in THIS PRICE POINT. For an MSRP of around $52,000. It has way more options than the German cars AT THIS PRICE POINT. Yes, once you raise the price into 6 digits, they exceed the Kia. If it doesn't live up to the standards of the German cars like Audi, BMW, or Mercedes, why did it beat them in their class for this year. The only car it didn't beat was the Porsche Panamera and that car is twice the price of the Kia Stinger. So before you say shit, do your research asshole.

    • @xxthehuskycaboosexx
      @xxthehuskycaboosexx 6 років тому

      Charlie G lmao I know you cant afford the German counterparts because if you did, you wouldn’t have a shitty kia stinger! • @Shadow02Playz

      xxthehuskycaboosexx trust me we did our research. We have own a long list of BMWs and Mercedes. They are nice but at that price point in our area, they weren’t that good. We were planning to get an X5 M. But it was way more expensive at around 65,000. For a used one with high miles. This car was brand new. Kia is changing the way people look at their brand. Time for you to change the way you talk about other people’s financial situation without knowing them

      xxthehuskycaboosexx i mean hes right lol coming from a person ehose been in the kia stinger briefly and has owned a merc benz and a couple bmws for the price the kis stinger is at it beTs a lot of competition honestly its biggest issue is as you pointed out its a kia but guess what every car manufacturer started outside of the u.s. that came over was like that at some point and they all change for example hyundai used to be bad and they have gotten a lot better all the japenese cars besides suzuki have gotten a lot better and even became some of the best cars rn if you ask me honda is on the decline recently with struggles of reliability on some cars and the dealerships refusing to fix it under warranty. Cars are always changing and ever car company started takeing off at some point with one special car done right this happens to be kias car dkne right. Honestly if im getting a life time warranty and a car as nice as the stinger for that price point i dont care if its a kia cause when i see you at the shop forking out a couple grand to fix your car im still under warranty

    This car isn't as important as some people think honestly. It's a mildly tweaked version of the Genesis Sedan. The Genesis Sedan was overlooked, but was actually as important as people think this car is, it was Hyundai's statement piece, saying Korea can build a RWD Luxury Flagship car to compete with the Germans and Japanese. Huge brakes, plush interior, finely tuned suspension, an emphasis on detail, all put into the Genesis Sedan nearly a decade ago. It's odd to me that they've slacked on marketing the Genesis brand for 9 years but are putting such a push behind a Kia badged car sharing the same platform.

    I recently test drove a 2020 Dodge Charger ScatPack widebody and a 2020 Kia Stinger GT........the Kia was by far the better car and less expensive too. Driving a charger is like driving a noisy boat around who's bark is worse than it's bite. The Stinger felt like a natural extension of your body to the road. Easy to control and plenty of power. I was surprised how much faster it felt than the charger.

    The Kia Stinger is perhaps the most polarizing car you can get today. It's a great car. Affordable, fun to drive, and it doesn't miss the practicality of a family car, all under those three letters that elicit fear or anger on people's heads. People can't wrap around their heads that Kia makes good cars, heck, they have less problems per 100 cars than Toyota does, which means they've gone further in 20 years then most car makers have.

    hi-tech LEDs with old fashioned incandescent lights around the car. They think they've got U fooled (they are available in BMW's in VERY pricey packages or a $2,000 lighting upgrade option). The Stinger even has LED turn indicators FRONT & REAR!

    With the Chevy SS going out of production, they saw a gap in a V8 sedan market. And now they’ve gotten even more lucky with Ford no longer making the Taurus. Which works out amazing for this car because it’s the only car like it in it’s class. As long as they can continue to market it and make it better each model I think it has the potential to be a hugely popular and successful car. Personally I love everything about it.

    I own a 2012 BMW 335i M-sport and it is absolutely the best drivers car i've ever driven. At the time, this was the benchmark of it's class to which all cars were compared to. I still own the car and after 92k miles, it still drives like a dream and the acceleration is still smooth and authoritative. I was in the market for another car. I had to have two, my daughter is in need of a car and i'm putting her through college etc. etc. I test drove many cars. I started with the BMW's. I was disappointed. Just shook my head. They aren't the benchmark anymore. At least to me they aren't. I drove the camaro ss, nice, but insurance?, uh, no. I entertained the idea of the Stinger. I drove the GT2, and that was it. I needed this car. So I got it. And I love it. End of story.

      The Focus RS was over hyped for a reason the first 2 generations only came to Europe and they were critically acclaimed cars the second RS got acclaim for having a Volvo 5 Cylinder which made a shit ton and was a return of the soul the Escort Cosworth had the RS was a car Americans wanted but Hot Hatches aren't a big seller in the US as it is in Europe I mean, they have the Golf GTI, Leon Cupra, Megane RS, 208 GTI, RS3, A45 AMG.
      The RS needed to make a comeback and they need to make a Fiesta RS to keep up the momentum.

      I'm not even saying the Kia Stinger or the Focus Focus RS are bad cars - they aren't. What they are are overhyped, like the Genesis.
      As for brand snobbery, while that is a fair argument to make, the track history for brands matters. It is very tough to go from unreliable economy car status to high quality reliable "sports" car. Brand image is very difficult to change, which is why Chrysler has so much trouble. You can argue that Kia is no longer what it was, but views are difficult to change. It took Japanese car companies decades of reliable cars to define their image, and even then they needed to make Lexus, Infiniti and Acura to compete at luxury car levels.

    I rarely see them around here which is said I think they are a great car even though personally I haven't gotten too drive one. "Not like I have too many reason to drive one beside wanting to know how it feels" I'm glad KIA went with this and hope they continue it!

    Test drove one today and the launch was fun! We were able to get a brand new 2020 GT1 with care package for $37,900😃

    I’ve owned a 2015 SRT Challenger and a 2017 2SS and after driving the Stinger and the G70 Genesis I was blown away to the point that I’m going to get the Stinger and thats because at 6”2 it’s just more comfortable. just drive the car then give your opinions guaranteed it will change your mind and at the least you’ll have a good time.

    They are great cars. My step Dad has a GT 2 I've been able to drive multiple times. Every time I'm behind the wheel I love it and completely forget I'm in a Kia!

    I hope the engine is built well, because with an after market exhaust, and a tune to increase the boost, we're talking a possible MEAN sleeper

    I love it, it shows that South Korean car companies can actually contend with with german sports cars. It’s kia punching above its weight class and winning. No car is perfect, but euro snobs will try to tear the car apart for the smallest problems.

    Just test drove one today. Things I liked: The car drove great! Responsive throttle, very little turbo lag. Responsive paddle shifters. Great ride. I really didn't get a chance to test the handling though, maybe next time. Very comfortable seats and the cooled seats are a nice touch. Love the hatch design. Things I didn't like: It's a bit chunky looking from some angles. I don't like the bronze exterior accents. I'm not a big fan of the stock wheels either. My biggest disappointment was actually the feel of the buttons and knobs. Not nearly as nice feeling as my Audi. Not even as nice as some VW's. They felt a bit on the chintzy side. Also the screen looks a little down market too, like something you'd see in a Forte. Are those big enough to detract from the car? Not really. It drove really well and was actually pretty fun. The reviewer is correct that the car did seem to shrink once driving it. Overall all I'll give Kia kudos for the amount of value to fun ration.

    Honestly, it has potential to be one of the modern tuner cars; maybe not as capable of the JDM's in the 90's, but certainly the closest we've got alongside the BRZ/86, Q60, G70 sedan, and the upcoming mk. 5 Supra to name a few that might still resemble those automotive legends.

    Thank you for not reviewing the GT2 like every. single. other review on the internet. People need to remember that car you want is $39,000 not this $50k bs that every comment section brings up.

    I was one of the guys that laughed at Hyundai and KIA owners...until I drove the Genesis sedan. I didn't buy the Genesis, but chose to buy an 18 Elantra gt sport. I traded my ecoboost Mustang in on this and do not regret it at all. I had lots of major problems with the ecoboost including an engine failure an hpfp. My next car in 2 years will be a Stinger GT.

    I haven't been in a Stinger but I think it's dope that South Korea is actually trying to make cool stuff now. It seems like a great value for money, and may be something that could buck the association Kia has with grandmas.

    I own a Kia Stinger GT2 as well. I put the Ark Grip exhaust system with the JUN.BL downpipes on and WOW!!. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you buying the Jonny Tig cold air intake for your car, it’s by far the BEST CAI system for the Kia Stinger. Great video though. I love these cars.

    What I find more interesting is how inflexible people's emotional based perspectives are compared to how quickly a company can change their image and product.

    I'd drive one. Remember seeing that commercial and thought to myself, "huh, Kia trying to play with the big boys, wonder if it's actually cool." Seems to be pretty legit. I got to move a Maserati ghibli in a driveway once, but I was too gitty to really pay attention to the interior haha. For this car to have a better interior than a Maserati is really saying something. Nice job Kia 😎

    Funny that he says the Genesis Coupe was a good first step. That's what I traded in for my Stinger GT. A big step up.
