Should You Play Against Level 9 CPU's? (Smash Ultimate)

- What's wrong with the computer players in Super Smash Bros Ultimate? Should you only play against real people? I'm here to tell you that maybe CPU's might NOT create bad habits and why they could actually be a good tool to use every once in a while.
Twitter: / redgerran
I only play against level 9 CPU's because I have no friends, my siblings hate me and my dad doesn't want to get me online. Life's good
LG- life’s good
Same here I have no online and my brother is too busy playing call of duty
same with my brother and sister they would always say they would but always go back on their word cause they are playing on their ps4.
U a squidward
@winsley ocampo I got it from my grandpa on my birthday
My only grudge on CPU's is that they can instantly react to any of your moves, which makes comboing them extremely hard, which causes the match to be more of a cat and mouse chase than an actual fight...
Yea it's just not fun. I don't like playing online but when I do it's fun to at least hit some good combos. CPU's just dodge out of them mostly.
Yep. Their DI is perfect, always. Very hard to practice combos on them, this is especially detrimental when playing combo characters. (I secondary Ryu)
yes it is very frustrating
I've played against a level 9 cpu Bowser and I managed to hit some zero to death combos and dunk him twice with mario
This is why I test combos on level 9s to test practicality. It’s hella useful
Objective: Have fun.
Obstacle: LV9 Sephiroth and Kazuya.
Don't forget Battlefield Doc Mario.
lv 9 dedede and incineroar too
LV9 Aegis, Steve, and sora
ryu is a tank n im losing my shit
i will never forgive nintendo for putting online smash behind a paywall all i can do to accomplish anything in this game is to gradually work up to winning against like 5 level 9 cpus at once or something cause I can't fight against actual people
ur not missing out on anything from not playing online. the online in this game is absolutely unplayable i would rather play against cpus
@@Ghoatsit’s good now
Cpu's basically only airdogde, parry at the most bullcrap frames, and nair spam at neutral, so to some degree they are good for practicing. Still, if you wanna get better, you gotta go to tourneys
nair spam and dair spam.
Fuck mario and yoshi CPUs lmao
@@LegionsTyphoon they're just like online players
You can try baiting airdodge but that parry is fucking bullshit
Yep 💯💯💯
@@LegionsTyphoon And peach and Daisy CPUs.
My worst habit is running off stage as Cloud without Limit and thinking "I can recover"
Sonic and cloud are My mains and learning how to play with cloud was a pain in the ass because i was used to sonic's good recovery...
Yoo sonic is one of my mains too my other is pichu
CPU 8 is good for me. The 9 cpus parry so...prefectly
Yeah the parrys are ridiculous.
They literally parry better than top players
That's why i learned to parry EVERYTHING :)
CPU 9 are easy to grab because they’re so reliant on their shield. I don’t think it helps too that I also have Monado Arts that can make it easier.
@@familiedorr1457 Even Light aka Parry prince never parried that perfect
@@eclipseumbreon955 I swear if you stay in shield for more than 0.5 a second against a lvl 9 they're grabbing you.
I can normally beat them consistently, but occasionally there will be one so cracked that the zero-death me. So inconsistent and insane
That's me when battling real people. 😂 One minute they suck and the next minute I suck.
Like level 9 Kazuya
its like how lv9 icies suck but then for some reason lv9 dr mario is insane
@@monky4640 Nah bro. Dr.Mario just spams pills and spams Down B.
If you dont let him do any of that shit, he gets 3 stocked EZ.
I've learned to parry his pills every time he threw them at me. When that happens, the grab is coming, as he has no answer to that, parrying his pills and not moving, other than a dash grab.
Otherwise, its a braindead AI that relies on Down B frames to rack up damage and avoid shit. Its honestly gross.
Lv 9 pikachu play like esam
I personally found that, as a beginner, practicing against CPUs dramatically improved my fundamentals.
With their perfect reactions, quick movements, and solid play style, I was forced to quickly learn the fundamentals to stand a chance against them, and overnight I got better thanks to it.
However, when it comes to advanced levels of play, ultimately you need to play against humans. They are more unpredictable and can adapt to different play styles and matchups better than CPUs can.
So IMO, if you want to get better at Smash, this is how to do it;
Beginners: Play against CPUs
Intermediate: Play against CPU’s and watch professionals play to perfect your play-style
Advanced: Play against other humans
Expert: Go to tournaments
Instructions unclear: Wrecked Kazuya CPU 3x over and became new Sephiroth CPU
I genuinely beat Kazuya CPU LV9 multiple times over though
challenge a lv 9 mii character, they have pinpoint accuracy. the program knows what buttons you are pressing so it's like their looking into your hands. they know when you're not blocking, what buffered move is next, and so on. its like counting cards
Really? Why them specifically
@@NN-ut1rf they're really fast and their moves are creative. I've fought characters and ive won bt miis are different. Theyre on poiny. They also can read you and adapt
Oh, thats true. Mii Characters are really creative when fighting and sometimes they are a pain in the ass but still fun to fight against.
And challenge a lvl 9 King K Rool He’s really good
@@AirAjavan1233 RIGHT?! Maan listen here , i have and he's learned my moves so quickly.
He, Incinaroar and roy are my rivals
The Ai's are crazy
I have the skill level to win locals, and I have won several, but other than for casual play, I prefer playing against CPUs for practice because they're actually better than 90% of elite smashers who just lag and spam and still lose.
Thank you!!
CPUs is all I have cuz none of my friends want to play against me. No more local tournaments in my area and I refuse to put up with smash's online, I'd much rather pass another kidney stone
FINALLY, I've found the comment I was looking for.
Looks like its not only me who thought the same, that CPU's feels vastly superior due to combination of Online discrepancies and just desperate fucks who camp spam, cause it allows them to win.
At least Lv.9's keep things moving.
What upsets me about CPU's, is that they only go for the human player ONLY. Its very annoying to be honest, especially in team battle
I thought I was the only one who noticed this during Team battles
I know the feeling they jump me even thou I knocked them out. They still come after me especially on teams
Bro I swear in every team battle I have My teammates aren't even fighting it's more like they're Protecting me from the enemy team
Its been like that since Brawl bro.
I've been playing Lv.9's for years in both games and I can tell you and assure you that its the fact.
Thought they would fix that shit in ultimate, but nope.
Really late comment but yess and i hate when they jump me and one of them spikes me or launches me to the point i can’t recover and die
One problem I have with Level 9's is that it's easy to manipulate them into doing a neutral airdodge. After I launch them upwards, they always neutral airdodge when I jump towards them. They don't use a directional airdodge nor an attack.
CPU's usually go for whatever is their best option in that specific moment. They don't plan ahead or do setups or anything, which is why you'll never see one do a Luigi 0 to death combo. CPU's are mainly to get used to the character overall (and yes, they like to air dodge and perfect shield all the time haha).
Yes! After you fight them over and over you notice they get scared into air dodging quite easily. Then it's a matter of punishing after they dodge..
I have found that this is generally true, but not always. I've definitely had times where i launched a CPU upwards and jumped after them and they responded with a dair instead of an airdodge.
I fight LVL 9 CPU's because I had no online during the summer. But here I am today, playing against real people most of the time. But if I'm really bored, I can always go against some LVL 9 CPU's because they're pretty fun (but sometimes annoying) in my opinion.
My only bad habit is down air smashing off the stage LMAO
This is so relatable. I usually die at least once per match like this lol
I know right? But damn, its so funny and the satisfaction someone gets when doing this and hitting the right spot, is just...awesome.
My bad habit is not pressuring shield correctly and basically never airdodging lol.
Me and my cousin do that a lot
Man i keep doing that with zss thinking im kirby
There's actually something scary about "you didn't win against the CPU, they let you win", to think that something is so perfect it knows every move you make as soon as you input it and knows the exact thing it needs to do to counter it, and the fact that it's not alive makes it even scarier. Imagine something like this in real life.
its actually happening
thats the purpose of quantum computing microsoft is working on, the golden dream of every dictator
And boom now we have advanced artificial intelligence
20xx meelee meme
I like this video. The one thing is the "CPUs let you win" thing which is lowkey invalidating hahaha but I get your ultimate point there. These CPUs are programmed to be perfect and counter everything so they have things that make it so players can overcome them.
I have difficulties against Lv. 9 CPUs depending on the character. Characters like Steve and Banjo are hell spawns since I main Jigglypuff and I can’t do anything against Uairs, even if I try to land.
The perfect parries don’t help either.
or DR Mario/Luigi spamming the cyclone like actual mains
insightful. I'm "new" to smash so this was helpful on what the community probably thinks about this.
Biggest reason to play against cpu's is the online is garbage so you're on average playing a less gimmicky opponent while also getting use to the much lesser offline delay time that you'll have to get use to for tourneys
I agree with you. Lvl 9 CPU's are great to pick your main, start practicing and feeling comfortable with the game in general. They can help you to develop your tech and movement.
I usually play against a friend who's pretty good and actually competes in local tournaments with good placements. I didn't have a lot of problems playing against him in neutral game and it was easy for me to notice his habits (he always tech'd in place or in, never out f.e.) but I would always drop a lot of punishes that even tho I practiced them in training mode, in an actual match they were very hard for me to pull off. (Palu's downthrow turn around bair, or good DI and SDI, for example). I started practicing stuff against CPU's (reactions, punishes, general movement) and I managed to beat him more frequently :)
If you play against CPU's you should only focus in tech, movement, fluidity and learning the matchups with your main and that's because you'll never practice mind games, adaptation and an actual neutral game against a CPU. What I actually think is bad against CPU's it's regularly switching characters when you get bored or doing stuff that would never work in a real match consistently. (Charging random smashes and still getting the stock, being careless of your recovery, mashing moves without any purpose, or cheesing in general f.e.)
But I don't care for online or metas. I'm just here to play for fun, good vid by the way
"CPUs don't have specific tendencies"
I disagree, there are plenty of instances where I've read what a cpu will do and punished accordingly
Playing against people makes me nervous and the internet is flaky, I play video games to have fun not to stress myself out, so I enjoy playing against CPU’s, don’t think it’s worth me stressing myself out just because other people say I need to play online lol
Okay, good, see as a new smash player learning basic techniques like short hopping, properly learning how to use ariels, punishing, spacing, etc. I play against the CPU mainly to get fluent with my characters since I don't have friends and my wifi is complete trash so I don't play online. I try not to get comfortable with moves that I know for a fact will work with a CPU. Instead, I try to mix things up so that I don't get used to doing the same thing or spamming. The Lvl 9 CPU has taught me so many things and I want to prove the people who talk down on playing against CPU's wrong.
I only play against cpus cuz I don't have a membership to play online :,)
I would play against lvl 7-8 cpus since lvl 9’s are so frame perfect it’s inhuman
Almost like it’s not a human to begin with…. No but seriously the frame perfect dodges and parrying are rediculous
especially lvl 9 kazuya
@@danknados lvl 8 kazuya doesnt even let me get on the stage once I reach 30% and he stuns me and kills me 4 hits is all he needs to murder me
@@SadielHrz who's your main?
@@danknados i mostly use Ken, Ryu, terry, joker, and c Falcon, sometimes sonic
What really helped me was World of Light and the Spirit Board matches. I don’t know I could put my finger on exactly why right now, but I’d guess it’s because they difficulty and/or strange conditions force you out of your comfort zone and force you to grow if you want to win, plus, it keeps you playing and engaged more than just doing normal cpu matches.
I play against Level 9 CPUs because I'm lonely and I don't have NSO
CPU’s are all I fight so yeah, they can give bad habits, but when I get a wild hair and go online i just have to keep in mind not to fight the same way I normally would, I main Bowser so he’s the ultimate adapt character anyway. I almost always loose the first match but you just have to adapt, if u get punished multiple times doing something, mix it up
When I really try I’m usually able to conquer most opponents, probably the biggest thing is think creatively and DONT GIVE UP
One thing about it, THIS version of Smash has arguably the toughest CPU yet so yeah, you can get a few bad habits, but none that are unbreakable so long as you can adapt in a match
I can beat lvl 9 CPU with my 3 best characters, but sometimes when I'm just trying to learn how to maneuver and have a little fun, it can really be a buzz kill. The precision is unreal most of the time, and you do feel more like they let you win than you beat them. I'm not sure what to do about it since I have no one to play, it would be nice if online wasn't so bad.
The only bad habits I can think of is holding smash attacks and having coms freak out and often roll into your attack because their way more aggressive
For everybody wondering TLDR: unless it's someone who u know irl, don't bother with online. The input lag completely ruins it, and u have to play completely different than u would offline. Lvl 7 cpu is the most realistic, and even better than most trash cans online. Lazytendo makes one of the greatest games, and still flops it.🤷🏻♂️
Wtf are you on?
It also helps to practice both ends of a matchup.
As someone that has always enjoyed the game more casually, yet still enjoying to duke it out from time to time online. I have to say the level 9 CPUs have always been an inseparable part of the experience for me. Whether it be to actually work on some match ups a bit more or just having fun. Of course it is obvious with the nature of how they work, they will never be able to afford the same experience another human can, and that can be taken both in good and bad ways of course. Still even though I am not really competitive, I enjoy the challenge they provide and I also realize that if I were to want to be able to play more seriously, only CPUs and only people way above or below your skill level aren't really the best ways to be able to become better. I think it takes a bit of everything.
Nice video. I'd like to bring a few facts from my experience.
1st fact is that the online play is gruesome in many places (like here in Brazil)
2nd is that this game with online lag, even when its a really small and ok-to-play lag, becomes a completelly different game, and all the reaction times and button prompts our brains get used to become slightly different, but different enough to ensure you're gonna get pummeled in locals if you play too much online.
(as an example, my first local tournaments I was a mess, but then the pandemic and online tournaments came, and I fared much much better, thats because I used to play online always)
3rd fact: CPUs are much better in this game than in the games before. The devs really listened to the feedback and made it count. So the bad rep CPUs had on previous game is not entirely deserved in this one
4th fact: training with people at about your skill level or slightly higher is better than playing with CPUs, but playing with CPU's is a better training protocol than playing with online lag from randoms.
Finally, an another comment that I was looking for.
Yep. From my experience, Offline and Online are literally two different games.
If you learned the game too much offline, you will have to re-learn the whole game again, if you go online.
If online wasnt so garbage....
I'd argue that any time spent honing a skill is time well spent. There's always going to be the ideal way to practice, but "ideal" and "only" are not synonyms.
Oh yeah, also if you can’t beat a level 9 cpu, you may not fair so well, this is applying to me since I have bad habits already that I have not develop yet and be better
I tried to practice via Training against Lv-9 COMs and although it was ok, a bit challenging, the game for some reason decided to chose both of the 3 or 4 characters with 5 jumps (Jigglypuff and Kirby) and they, although were great at attacking, kept running away like it knew I HATED opponents that tend to run away almost all the time
I hate that feeling you mentioned: You didn't win against the CPU, they let you win.
I simply can’t play online. Whenever I do it feels like a quarter second delay on my controls. Don’t know if its my connect, or if Nintendo’s servers are trash...
Well, probably both.
There is a little bit of a delay online, which is why there's a completely different tier list online compared to offline (with Sonic being the consensus #1 overall).
I am so annoyed and angered by Lvl 9 CPU players in this game! Always frame perfect dodge my combos and jab locks, always perfect shield my reads, stand in one side and spam the same moves over and over again, constantly hop around the stage like a bunny, and keep throwing me off stage to go for a desperate offstage kill that doesn't prove anything every time I get back on stage until their desperate offstage hits! They ruin the fun and enjoyment of this game! Goddamn! I wish I can play people online in Smash!
As annoying as it is when they do that, it's still beneficial in some specific ways. When you play against real people, they'll be able to dodge your combos, perfect shield your moves, and all those other things computers do (although maybe not as often), and by playing against CPUs, you learn things like which moves are safe on shield, how to get through a campy playstyle, etc.
Plus, once you go online, you'll be surprised just how annoying real people can be.
challenge a lv 9 mii character, they have pinpoint accuracy. the program knows what buttons you are pressing so it's like their looking into your hands. they know when you're not blocking, what buffered move is next, and so on. its like counting cards
I would not recommend online. Lag, disconnects, takes too much time to setup matches. Playing level 9 cpus is the way to go.
@@BM-vs5jg Yep. You're right.
online gae
I play against level 9 CPU cause I have no friends the only bad habit is that they force you to play defensively rather than how you usually play I’ve beaten level 9 numerous times and only lost like 8 matches to them because of uncertainty the good habit is you learn their attack patterns and read their movements
(War flashbacks to getting 0 to 87 after one Steve grab anvil up tilt combo)
Lvl. 9 CPUs alternate between being ssj and garbage during the match. Once they're garbage, it's too noticeable.
I havent played ssbu online not even once, and ive been playing against lvl 9 cpus since day one, its gotten to the point that i can kinda predict their moves.
I recommend fighting a lvl 50 amiibo with the same character & fighting style as you, because your best training partner is yourself & once your a certain amount more skilled like the AI, start reseting the amiibo AI & train him all over again & keep doing that
Are they like lvl 9 cpu
@@AirAjavan1233 well, i used NOT to be, but i've barely played smash bros ultimate in quite a long time (i now play rivals of aether a lot more) now i'm actually quite bad at the game because even lvl 9 is a bit to strong for me, but i was never good to get into elite smash with anyone at all anyway because my win rate was only 50%, but using amiibo is just something i reccomend
Level 9 cpus I've found play predictably, but perfectly. I'm also convinced they can read inputs, since they always seem to anticipate my get-up option and perfect parry. You can cheese them, especially when they get stuck on platforms or air dodge, but for most "casual good" players they provide a challenge.
You’re videos are really good, I was surprised when I saw your subscriber count. You deserve more so hopefully your vids start getting traction lol
Frick I main Lucas again why must you hurt me
Double jump cancel zair is what I think you’re talking about
Thank you so much dude you helped me find my main and you should have more subs
I've literally have heard no one tell me playing against CPUs is bad.
So as someone who basically only plays against lvl 9 cpus since I hate online with a passion, and dont have any friends who play smash near me. I also go to some locals (2-2er most of the time lol). My two cents on this one is that cpus definitely have their habits, for instance they like to airdodge in juggle situations a lot (real people do this one too tho), they also almost always hit techs, or paradoxically get stage spiked where some people dont. They also almost always DI in exactly the same way, which is what I would say is the biggest struggle only fighting cpus since sometimes you'll get used to getting a confirm or followup in a specific way even if a real human would get out of it pretty easily.
Also by far my greatest period of improvement was when I was consistently playing against some of my roommates a couple years back, so if that's an option it's definitely the best one, but I think there are probably quite a few people in similar situations to me that can't get real person practice easily, and I don't think cpus quite deserve the reputation that they have.
If you’re practicing your bad matchups against cpus, I recommend also choosing a stage where they might have an advantage. For example, fighting against a ZSS on Smashville.
I think playing against CPUs and real people can both help you learn and grow as a player. Level 9 CPUs in particular provide a great (albeit sometimes annoying) challenge and they play like pro Smash players would. They will gimp and edgeguard you and hit you wth some pretty hard-hitting combos as well as parry and perfect guard when needed. That being said, it's still different from playing against an actual human being. Players have different skill sets and have their own unique playing style. It's up to you to learn their style and adapt to it as needed.
Great video, liked and subbed
I go against level 7 and if I’m looking for a challenge I do level 8 I’m gonna go against once I can finally learn combos
Same bro 😂
People say “don’t play against CPU’s, you’ll develop bad habits”
Well I just played 5 games online, and every time the rule set was FS meter with garbage stages, and I went from 7.6M GSP…. To 3.7M
I still do it when I'm trying to learn a new character.
I can't even beat lv 6 cpu
Why am I watching this
I always say to play against CPUs to see what’s possible
And against players to see what you’re actually capable of
I've never listened to a single thing anyone ever tried to tell me about how to play Smash and I still stomp their asses, 24 years strong.
I’d recommend that if you’re just starting out. First find who you want to play and then watch tournament play of that character/tutorial. (Still remember that you probably can’t do anything they do yet) And then once you get to level 7 cpu skill keep doing that till you can easily beat a level 7 and then slowly level up the cpu.
i been playing smash since release and been only doing cpu 9,im planning to buy online soon so im hyped
Level 9 CPUs sometimes use 2 moves in like one frame. Absolutely mad.
I FUCKING HATE IT . I’ll throw a thousand items and moves out and they’ll dodge every single thing and manage to land a critical hit in one shot .
I feel like CPUs are good to train against cause they adapt to your gameplay forcing you to mix it up. (Just a disclaimer I know this video was posted 11 months before I posted this comment, I don't know if they changed CPU behavior since then)
This is before I watched the video
Half way through the video and I would like to say CPUs do adapt, if you keep doing the same things and keep trying to hit the same combo they will eventually adapt, an example is Mario F-air, if you are hit one against a level 9 the CPU will change it up and maybe start jumping.
Finally at the end of the video, I do agree people believe CPUs give bad habits, but for training purposes for specific characters does help.
Example, you keep losing to Duck Hunt with his random projectiles, smash attacks, and other jank (I lost to a Dunk Hunt online twice by them only using the B button and smash attacks), then I played against Duck Hunt CPU and starting adapting to it, started losing a lot less matches against Dunk Hunt since.
They don't adapt they react to your inputs on frame one. Playing them is really bad for you because it makes you hesitant and will mess up your spacing against human players. And they do this on the lower levels as well.
I can beat a level 7 CPU yes... I’m bad lol 😂💖✨
Hey me too, level 7s are hard for me sometimes but it's mostly because I haven't learned my character well enough and I should do more combos. I recently beat my first level 8 with da Joker baby but I wasn't playing so well, and I definitely want to improve.
Sorry for the long comment, but yeah I'm motivated to improve!
A UA-cam video that was on-point and didn't overstay its welcome. Cheesus woofbarking christwaffles.
you deserve so many more subscribers
Great video it sums up my thoughts too basically 😎👍
Subscribed because you seem to make great content!
I hate when cpu air dodge every single up air and parry at the most bullshit moments possible
I rarely play online due to bad netcode, and the godforsaken GSP system, like you could win one match and gain 50,000 GSP, but lose one match and lose over a million GSP, and the fact that there's no leaderboard system to track how much GSP you need to enter Elite Smash
0:46 when I started to main king k rool I started just crowning and canonning but now since I'm in 6.4 mil I have definitely changed up my strategy
When I was much younger, I had once beat 3 lvl 9 bowsers as Luigi
CPUs can sometimes be dumb. Sometimes they just die, which leads to all the "luigi wins by doing nothing" videos. Chances increase when on a custom stage as they may not particularly adapt well to the gimmicks.
3:22 that clip is every Jigglypuff players wet dream :D
5:35 trust me when i say that they can and WILL edge guard
CPU's help with learning. like a book
Lv 9 CPUs are, in a nutshell:
"Go ahead and jump, JUMP"
My best method of practice against CPUs is to make sure that I have clear intent on what I want to do against them. Regardless of whether I win or lose.
I play Chrom, Roy and Incineroar. So let's say for example that I want to work on my combos with Roy. If I want to become more and more consistent with jab -> bair, that will be my main focus. "How do I set up into this combo?"
"How consistent can I get with it? "
"How is my opponent going to DI to try and make me miss it?"
These are all questions I have when I play against CPUs. Practicing against them isn't necessarily bad after you have the fundamentals when you have clear intent. You have to know what you want to learn to work on. But it's also not necessarily good. There is no be-all-end-all solution.
However, it's optimal to have a good mix of both humans at your own skill level and CPUs in order to improve, and then adjust that ratio accordingly.
My problem is the slight input delay online. It throws me off 100% of the time
Lvl 9 incineroar scares me because all he does is grab you and throw you and kill you at 50% or more
I found out that I suck against both. In the 400 hours that I've put into practicing against real people and lvl 9 bots, learning tech and combos, and trying out different characters, I still haven't managed to get a character past 5 million gsp. I suck at this game and sometimes I wonder if I should just put it down.
I started playing super aggressive characters and it made the game a lot more fun
Level 9 CPUs are very smart. It’s best to have one or more of them be one of your teammates in team battle so you can learn to become a Super Smash Bros Ultimate Champion.
as far as habits built by only fighting CPUs, my roommate can attest that they are now in the nigh unbreakable habit of kind of just camping all game. They have 0 clue how to edge guard or even really how to chain together basic combos because they only play against perfect DI CPUs all the time. At first, their playstyle was obnoxiously difficult but between fighting them and CPUs, as well as other opponents, suddenly I knew how to beat the strategy he employed. The problem NOW for him is that he can't break out of his habits and unlike me, he isn't willing to try to learn any better.
I play against Cpus lvl 9 just to learn some basic combos from a character i want to learn to main, when im ready i will go on real ppl, maybe is not the best way but i will start learning how ppl play and how to counter them
level 9 cpus are really easy to bait into an air dodge and for me seem to really love to stand on a platform, parry your attack, and either down smash or up b punish.
CPUs allow you to practice combos, movement and spacing, along with getting the feel for your character, in a low-stress environment. I feel like until you've mastered your main (as in can land their combos etc consistently), they're the perfect tool to advance quickly.
Motivationvideo 🤩 so in love with the facts u named 👍🏿
i will take it personal 👍🏿😉
I play smash bros ultimate everyday I practice everyday at level 9 cause I'm happy and I'm fired up and I play cup Level 9 in battle royal or anything and I win cause I prove myself to become number one player in the world got it I'm number 1
I guess i can't remember fighting CPUs in Smash 4, but lv 9 CPUs in Ultimate get pretty aggressive about going offstage for gimps. They do miss techs in Ultimate also.
They can also get pretty crazy. I got bodied by a lv 9 Falco a couple weeks ago. It was like the game just decided to activate beast mode for that match.
One thing i started doing recently that i've come to like for training my focus and reaction times is that instead of playing against one lv 9 CPU, i play against a team of 2 lv 8s. Certain team setups can make this pretty difficult and it also seems to make the CPUs even more aggressive about edgeguarding, so it can make for some interesting matches.
There was a time when i got smash and online, and i was new I'd always lose and have fun but as i started getting better sometimes win and lose but for the most part, Id lose... then I started getting upset after every loss and i would lose all the time. People sre so toxic online so i stopped playing online and i decided to do 5 stock with lvl 9 cpus for fun, i would pick the heavies to make it easier and fun for me and then id go online and id just lose like after, i was so upset. Then i decided just to play lvl 9's again, pure offline and then i started switching different characters for me and then i put the cpu on random and i would play and i just kept winning and it felt great, i did it for like 2 weeks. Then i decidedly i was down to play online but dude i actually got way better and started winning all my/most of my matches and i dont get uoset anymore if i lose i have fun again and i got way better soooooo in conclusion, i definitely see lvl 9 cpus as a great way to just learn the character.. and naturally, it will come. I now go online hoping to get bodies cause i know that makes me better, but it worked really well for me
My main is Mario something about his spikes and his character design just love this character
Level 9 Mario and Falco annihilates me, they airdodge and sprint tons of times, and parry at the most crippling timing for me. But thankfully, counterattacking them and air attacking them is what overcomes both of them.
Level 7 and 8 cpus got me to spam smash attacks (with the occasional d tilt and u tilt when u smash wont hit) while level 9 CPUs got me to use tilts more often
My only bad habit is being a little Mac main
The problem with playing against CPUs is that there are no mind games and no neutral. There are no baits, faints, mixups, etc. It leads to severely linear gameplay when playing against humans.
Level 9 cpus play so unrealistically it's stupid
I mainly played against them most of the time due to awful internet connection but when I got my own switch and played at my own house I started playing against real people instead of the bots because I'm a 0 pinger so I can actually somewhat enjoy online
One of my biggest problems in smash is adapting so fighting CPUs is not something that helps me improve. I'm happy if it helps you tho
CPU's could still help you adapt a little bit. One of the ways you learn adaptation is having a fluency of the other player's options. If they're predicting what you'll do better than you're predicting what they'll do, it might help to get a little bit of practice with a CPU of the character they like to use. Of course, either way helps. It's just an option if you get frustrated battling people and want an alternative.
@@redgerran getting MU practice is something I should do more with a cpu for sure, but I guess my problem is the cpu doesnt adapt to me and atm I only have wifi once a week so I'm either playing a cpu, practicing in the training room or doing nothing with smash. I also find fighting cpus boring sometimes so the pressure isn't on and I'm autopiloting. I really want to learn while fighting CPUs but I'm not sure how
@@derp4752 Honestly, I would just say to make it as fun as you can. Maybe try out stamina mode or do 7 stocks. Maybe add items like the metal block or rabbit ears that don't give either of you a huge advantage. I know exactly what you mean when you say it can get boring going against a CPU all the time. Just remember that as long as you're still practicing, you're moving in the right direction.
@@redgerran that's really helpful, thanks for the tips! I will try different things with cpus today, I have an online tourney this Sunday so I want to be practiced up
I came to watch this because I cba to pay to use the trash online and have spent the past week grinding Pit vs. Lvl 9 Kazuya. I dislike fighting CPU's for the reason that you can get wins by doing braindead things like charging smash attacks by the ledge and hoping they recover high, or just spamming ranged attacks, but if you try to play honestly then you suddenly find them airdodging out of every combo, rolling every attempt to attack, spot-dodging your grab mixups, and parrying you attacks frame perfectly.
Kazuya is particularly bad because of how much he gets out of a single opening, and this makes match-ups feel very one-sided. While a human may drop the combo or fumble an input, the CPU will just react on frame 1 to whatever option you pick and punish you for it. At these points, it feels like you're not even learning, you're just getting tilted because you made one misinput and got 0 to deathed off an EWGF hit.
