    That's why I love my adventure bike! I can go down those beaten trails and camp in some really stealthy and scenic spots that aren't disturbed by people.

    I wouldn't stay anywhere there was a sign telling me I don't belong there . As a Florida boy , I know exactly what property rights mean , and I always respect them . Down here if you're caught where you don't belong , you could be shot to death with very few questions asked .

    Cool to see Scotty comment and talk about his experiences. Like you and Scotty have said most of the fears are the stories we tell ourselves in our minds. Cool to see the little youtube motorcycle vagabond community sharing with one another.

    Thanks for the stealth camping tips series. Looking forward to these!
    Scotty has the personality to get away with egregious trespass. If I tried the same stunt, I'd be in jail and my bike impounded.
    It's one thing to camp on the edge of someone's land. It's another thing to camp in someone's house, even if abandoned. To my thinking, bedding down on the edge of some private property might be analogous to using your neighbor's lawn mower without permission, but camping in someone's house is more like using your neighbor's wife without permission.
    I'm going to try to camp on public land when possible, even though much of the public land is viewed by various government agents as private property belonging to the government, and while trespassing on privately owned private property is a crime, some government officials would view camping on government land as similar to poaching the king's deer... a much more serious offense, tantamount to treason or domestic terrorism.

    • @MotoGiant

      Love the analogies - it is hard to understand the mindset of humans unless you can put yourself into the OTHER situation.

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever 2 роки тому

      @Scotty Kerekes - No doubt your experience is different, but my experience has definitely been that I am treated far more harshly by bureaucrats and law enforcers than homeless people who are deemed to be down on their luck. Despite my best attempt to be friendly and nonthreatening and cooperative, I'm treated as a domestic terrorist who thinks the law doesn't apply to me. I'm naturally anti-authoritarian and they can smell it, regardless of my best behavior. There is great latitude in enforcement of laws or bureaucratic rules, and I'm given no leeway. A homeless guy is ignored or asked to leave, but in the same situation I'd be face down on the pavement, handcuffed, tasered, and arrested for anything they could manage plus resisting arrest and possibly assaulting a police officer as freebies.
      Good luck free camping wherever you can. I'm envious but not resentful. I truly wish you the best but I know not to try something like that.

    For me, I just get an uneasy feeling around an abandoned house. Oddly for me I'm more uncomfortable being on abandoned commercial property.
    That being said, If I really needed to there'd be no moral objection on my part.

    The question I've always had is WHY so many abandoned houses in the SE USA
    Up here in the NW I do not see that many other than old farm houses or log cabins

    • @MotoGiant
      @MotoGiant  2 роки тому

      Houses are cheap in the south, really cheap compared to NW - for example, depending on Location, the lot may only be worth $5-10k, but if the house needs significant repairs, it could be worth less. Fixing up an old abandoned rural house might not allow a break even cost. So they sit.

    I'm kind of partial to old country cemeteries the back edges usually have trees, there quiet to say the least, not a rowdy bunch at all Ha Ha! Just leave them like you find them. Every town has one, some the town is gone, some are next to churches, be respectful , I sleep in a cot tent!

    Old guy on a Harley in the abandoned house, "Hon git the Sheriff!"
    Old guy on a BMW in the abandoned house, "Hon, we gots dinner guest next door."
    Respect private property. A lot of times being friendly to the neighbors, if there, you can find out about these properties. I just tell them I won't leave a mess.
    My preference is abandoned commercial buildings in smaller towns.

    You probably have more of a chance of being run off sleeping on a roadside picnic table, than a place like where your at. You never know who owns a run down abandoned house, but as long as your not trying to squat in it long term, I doub't anyone cares if you sleep in there for a night. Depending where your at, the things that would concern me more that upset owners would be, snakes, bugs, mice , rats. and any other living thing that also makes it their home. If someone asks you to leave, leave. It's a big world out here. Find another spot down the road.,,

    If there is a house right across the road or next door, why is it so hard to just stop in and ask if they have info on the property or can give permission to use it? If they warn against it, just move on, but maybe they can tell you it's ok. It doesn't have to be such a big issue.

      @@terrillwolf2552 Pretty sure our difference in perspective is our experience? I guess I have done enough door knocking in my life to know people, and how they react to a potential request such as yours. Having been a homeowner most of my adult life, I know how I would react to such an odd request, and hell, I even LIKE BIKERS? Why not just ask them if you can stay in THEIR backyard, or their garage? Since you and the stranger you just met are such good friends, why not just ask to bang the wifey while you are at it? Just kidding of course, but I would rather ask for forgiveness than permission 9 times out of 10, unless there is a dude standing in his yard? Or he has a bike out there, but odds are I am not gonna knock - they always have the option to call LEO to "check out the new neighbor that is trespassing" even if they say "sure, man, go ahead!"

    From what I've seen from watching Scotty's videos is because he wants to save his shelter. He would rather park at a place where he can save some weathering on his tent?
