  • Just a brief motovlog on why I joined and MC only to leave in the end. This was a perfect day to ride with some friends from the C.M.A. (Christian Motorcyclist's Assocication). While taking the opportunity to ride with these guys, I thought it be a good time to talk about the subject. I left all the names of the organizations anonymous for the sake of their privacy.

      Wayne Simpson I’m with you 100%, I don’t care what you ride, at least you are on the road and some of them are out there in the same bad weather as me, rain, dust storm or cold winter day, they see me and I see them.
      Yes there is an Air Force guy cruising a Honda grom from town to base and I wave to him as well. Granted it is only about 10 miles from the edge of town to the base but still a number of the spring, summer and fall guys are in their cars or trucks while I’m out in the rain with the Grom guy and others.
      I may catch a bit of back talk from the other guys who I ride with but I don’t care and give it right back. Especially the ones that I pass in their warm and dry cages.

      I'm with ya dude. The bike world is filled with these macho man morons who equate penis size to engine size. In their peanut mind, if your bike is under 1400 cc, you're riding a girls bike. Bullshit! Lets see one of those macho man fucks ride a bare bones sporty cross country with no air ride, no bags, no GPS and no fancy fairing filled with a stereo and instruments. They are basically riding a 2 wheel car...who is the little girl??? Would I love to have a bagger? Sure, but that doesn't mean I would piss on other bikers riding smaller bikes. When i ride, I run across guys riding everything from Honda Rebels to full dress Cadillac's on two wheels and I wave to any rider I pass. We are all in the wind, that's what matters, not what you're riding. Save the macho man ego trips for the 1 percenter clubs where it belongs.

    I've ridden motorcycles since I was 16 but never been interested in clubs or associations. For me it's still the soft siren call of the open road, the sound of tyres on hot tarmac and that feeling of being unencumbered by humdrum day to day life. The purity of motorcycling is setting your own pace and choosing your own path to wander. Anything else is just a distraction. Happy riding! 😊

    Been watching a bunch of videos lately, and yours are some of the best. Thank you. I'm an older rider that after almost 30 years of being without, just recently got back to riding again. My first trip out I know I over did it a bit. Went for about an hour and a half and was hurting like crazy later that day, but I had a smile on my face you couldn't have knocked off with a 2x4. Didn't go with friends or a group, was just me with my thoughts and wherever my front wheel pointed. For me that was more than enough. Many things you talked about in this video rang true with me. While it would be nice to find a group to ride with...to share with. For the time being though, I'm once again content with open road and miles sliding by. Roll on.

    I too joined an MC here in MO and although they are a great group of standup folks, I just realized I wasn’t much of a joiner. You see, I’m a retired vet and I thought I wanted that veteran brotherhood to last forever. The 1st problem is, it don’t. The next is the politics in regards to other MCs became so nonsensical to me that I shook my head and rethought things. So, I decided if I was going to ride, it was going to be for me and my family & not for a patch. Also, although I love HD, I have ridden so many different makes that I’m simply not brand loyal. So, I’m selling my 16 Indian & my 12 CVO Ultra to purchase a high tech BMW 1600 B & an old EVO powered HD to tinker with. I also could give 2 turds about image. Anyhow, just watched 3 of your tubes & enjoyed the heck out of em. Keep it up my friend.

    I really enjoy your words and your faith. Nearing 70 years old, I've been in several civic clubs and church groups and for the most part, they were good but it seems politics always finds its way into the top priorities groups. I'm a devout Christian and I've always tried to live like Jesus is beside me - which he is! I never hate and I try to believe in the good in everyone. Please keep up the good work. I've just discovered your videos and look towards seeing many more.
    On the material side, I've owned many bikes over the years of all sizes and styles from different countries. I've loved all of them in one form or another. Right now, I'm riding an old Sporty 883 with lots of patina. I maintain the mechanical parts because I like to get where I'm going but the bling is not my priority. It's like having a favorite pair of old shoes or boots, the older they get, the more I like them.

    Seen some people in clubs, that once that patch isnt there, their brothers ain't either. If your only a brother, because of a patch, your living the wrong lifestyle. I got bros, bros I would die for, and they the same. A patch should be, along with a club, if chosen to do so, should just be a way of conforming to something together. Shouldn't be something that makes brothers, brothers. Bonds, experiences, good and bad times, that makes brothers.

    Usually from the guy who has a big twin that he has financed for 10 years.
    Mine is and has been paid for since 87.
    BTW, these were usually the same people who disrespected me back in the day because I rode H-D.

      @Cris Topher I understand Sir, Christianity is always hated by those who love their sins more than they do God.
      And those who are atheist or Satanist love themselves and their sins more than God.
      Which always leads to the same tragic outcome, early death and an empty life.
      It's freedom of choice & I'm down with that.

Have owned a number of HD's going back to the early nineties and ran with a fairly hardcore crowd. Thankfully the Lord pulled me back into the fold, I raised my two kids on my own, now teenagers.....I haven't had a bike for a number of years due to family first but I know I'll be out there again one day soon. Well awesome I guess. I’ll have to say I’ve ridden for years, and when you’re young and not beat up, those sportsters and customs are fun to ride but as you get older and want to ride long trips with the fam, those girl bikes are wonderful for the bones. And I bet Jesus wouldn’t judge them nor the fellow riding one for it. Ride what you ride, have fun. Just saying.

    As I think on some of the best rides I had, the best one was a night ride through MN lake country, back roads, no traffic, full moon, perfect warm temp. Even had a honking train. It was just one of those perfect rides, on perfect roads on a perfect summer night, with a friend who invited me to his club's meeting. Maybe the best is to befriend people who are in clubs and not join.

Cylinder , head , Piston , expansion chamber silencer .. and a 24 mm Mikuni to replace a 16 mm Kehien car.. it more than tripled my Horse power after doing some port work ..
    The Mikuni came with a 180 main jet.. First hot day on a sand track .. I burned a hole in the Piston.. Then got a Memo from Yamaha suggesting using a 200 main jet.. With all the port work I did ,, it ran best with a 220 main jet .. but I did try a 230 main jet too ..

    In the late 60's and early 70's i had a 1941 45 Cubic Inch Sports Solo all my friends had Harley's. A guy we knew got a 1965 305 Honda Dream and we all made fun of him until we started riding with him. That 305 Dream would run the balls off our old Harley's and had way more top end than my 45 Cu In. I never made fun of any other bike after that but we still got more girls than Bob on his Honda. In 1978, on a beautiful sunny day, I was riding my Honda 350 (first bike)......Had my sunglasses on and just cruising along when all of sudden a dude in a truck, stuck out his head out yelled at the top of his lungs, "get a Harley"! I wasn't offended or anything. Was kinda funny.....Months later, I got to test drive my wife's cousins Sportster, and understood! Wow, I said to myself! However, back when, Harleys, were pieces of junk not to mention oil leakers etc and to top it off, owned by a bowling ball company....I stopped riding for some 32 years, as my wife was a homemaker so I could not take a chance of getting injured etc...
    Never forgetting that rumble on my scrotum all those past years, finding out the Davidsons bought there family company back from the bowling ball co (AMF really?) haha and thanks to prez Reagans intervention to help it survive.....And I was nearing retirement! All the stars were lining up! I would lick my chops, at the latter part of my years of work, when I saw all those "Johnny come lately fellows (as I refer to them now haha) riding those Harleys and other bikes also and would just say to myself, "gonna get me one"....And can qualify as well as quantify that statement (johnny come latelys), because I did ride in the rain, sleet and snow in my younger years, unlike my "tough guy" (wanna be's with tattoos etc haha) counterparts did, knowing full well they DO NOT RIDE, not even with itty bitty sprinkles coming down! Haha
    5 years fast forward, from my retirement date I purchased a 2014 much awaited Sportster! Even taking on a job as a janitor to pay for it! God is good.....

    Here's the thing about the Sportster: It's too damn small for two-up riding. It just is. That damn passenger seat is *tiny*. And Sportsters look so goofy with huge seats ang big gas tanks on them - you might as well just buy a damn SuperGlide. That said, to single ol' me, the Sporty is the best bike ever. I'm on my third - all 883s. I've taken my second one from Florida to Washington State *twice*. Luckily it had the 3.3 gallon tank. My latest one has the 2.2, and I really need to find a "King" tank for it. I can do 100 miles on this one, but it's cutting it close...too close. Oh yeah, you can't beat 55-60 mpg on a Big Twin. But that's what all of my Sportsters have gotten. (883 and don't go too crazy-rich on the jetting.)
    Also, on a Sportster the distance from the seat to the mid-pegs is very short, forcing us old guys into a bend of the knees/hip that is just uncomfortable on long runs. Highways help, but you still gotta shift and stop. You *could* go with forwards, but I like the mids because they're more, um, "sporty." (I do have highways, btw, and passenger pegs and I use all three.)
    Oh yeah, I also own a Dyna Super Glide. It's..nice, yeah, but honest to God, I enjoy riding the Sportster more. It does remind me of my original Honda 350. And, considering how heavy I am now compared to when I was sixteen, the power-to-weight ratio is probably about the same, which is why they feel so similar...and fun! End of Sportster sermon: Church dismissed ;-)
    Rock on, Saddle Tramp - love your videos!

    • @boomerguy9935
      @boomerguy9935 4 роки тому +1

      I also have a Sporty 883 with mid-pegs and it's the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. I'm 70 years old and this is by far the best bike I've ever had for my back which has a herniated disc that presses on my sciatic nerve. Most of you guys already know the extreme and constant pain this causes. Forward controls limit my rides to 30 minutes max. My mid-controls let me ride as long as I want regardless of highway cruising or screaming through the mountain twisties. I don't pass judgment on forward controls, they just don't work for me.
      As far as the 883 being a smaller engine and running at higher revs at the same speed as a 1200, that doesn't bother me a bit. My riding buddies have a Sportster 1200 XL custom and a Road King Twin Cam 88. I don't have any problem keeping up with them anywhere. I've owned a bunch of motorcycles in the last 56 years from different countries and in different styles. My 2005 XL883 standard is by far the most fun bike I've ever owned and I get more "smiles per mile" from it than from all the rest combined. There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't check the weather to see if I will go riding.
      The best part of this video is the sound of the Tramp with its 883. Love the tramp. It's not my style but it ain't my bike. I still love it because it makes its human accessory happy.
      Extra comment on my Sporty: it's the last year the Sportster had the straight-cut gears in the transmission before going to helical-cut gears. H-D says they did it to reduce the "noise" of the transmission. Really? That is not "noise" to me. That sound is just as important as the engine and exhaust sounds which are all music to my ears. And who doesn't love the Harley "clunk" when going into first gear. It's never missed a shift. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
      I've done a lot upgrades and changes to my silver-gray and black bike (Soon to be known as "Old Gray" or "Hi-Yo Silver" -- not sure which, yet.) but she still looks 99% stock. It has very little chrome with its flat gray engine and black frame which is perfect for me because I don't like "bling". I don't polish it because it interferes in my riding time. The only thing I clean is the bugs on my windshield. (Yeah, I'm one of those guys.) However, I'm a fanatic about maintenance and fluids.

  • @boomerguy9935
    @boomerguy9935 3 роки тому

    Regarding the jets in the carb, my 2005 XL883 had a 42 idle jet and a 175 main jet. It would cough at low rpm's before the motor was completely warmed up, so I changed the 42 to a 45 and that fixed the problem. Since then, I switched my stock air filter assembly for a free breathing TC Bros kit and went for a ride on a cooler than normal day. It didn't cough at low rpm's but it was anemic in all rpm's. After watching this video, I'm convinced that I need to go to a 48 idle jet and a 180 main jet for "more authority". I'll let you know how it works out.
    I keep watching this video for the message and the sound of the Tramp. Thanks!

    • @boomerguy9935
      @boomerguy9935 3 роки тому

      UPDATE for the above change in jets. I replaced both as described and went for a long ride today which was a very gray and windy 55 degrees F. The bike has regained its lost authority. Not only does it have it again, it commands it! Not only does it accelerate aggressively, it cruises very smoothly at low and high rpms. I tried to make the engine "cough" and couldn't get it to do it. The bike runs perfectly with the new breather kit and upgraded jets.
      To repeat what I did, I now have a 48 pilot/idle jet and a 180 main jet. The idle air/fuel mixture is at 1 3/4 turns out. My rpm's are at 1200 as per the owner's manual. My 2005 XL883 is happy again!

    There's not many Harley riders that have only ever owned that one marque. Most of the "tough guys" that cry "Japcrap!" have actually owned a Japanese bike, any one of the "big 4". My first bike was an early sixties custom chopper, a Kawasaki W650, a direct copy of a British twin. Complete with ALL the oil leaks! Then I went through various jappas, the last being an '88 Yamaha FJ1200. Bulletproof engine, fantastic sportstourer. And now I've been on Harley's for the last 30+ years, and I love my '06 Softail not-so-Standard. Had the chance to prospect for a 1% club, but politely turned the offer down. And because I had grown up with a lot of the guys that were in the club, there was absolutely no animosity, I continued to respect them, they returned that, and I was still invited on club runs, which I did occasionally go on. I just couldn't get my head around being at someones beck and call. If I wanted that, I would've joined the military. I've never regretted my decision, and remain good friends with them.
    Every now and then,
    I miss the pure adrenaline rush of a bike that's capable of sitting on 270kmh all day. Comfortably. Now I'm older (61) and my clothes keep shrinking, I'll stick to my beloved Harley. I guess growing up reading Easyrider magazine, and seeing a beautiful blue Electraglide when I was a kid, when my dad took me to a local mechanic, right there and then knowing I would own one someday. Anyway, God bless you and keep you shiny side up, brother, greetings from the once great nation of Australia.🙏👍

      Rayford, Ray Siegel I know for fact a Harley engineer bought 1, an 05 and he completely disassembled the motor and that’s all I heard. Gotta love the v4s. Awesome power coming from riding Harley’s to riding a vmax that max revs 10grand scarey at first. That seat on the max is to stop you from sliding off, I have full boost edition 👍
