Especially when it's Tool, ammirite? They truly defy classification. I want to call them progressive metal, but I really feel like that just doesn't do them justice, because their music covers so much ground! I came in, I found Tool, that's all I know.
Every Fucking song will do something different to you......this is a one of kind band man.....and I got two words for you and the TOOl Army will surely agree...THE GRUDGE !!!!!!
You know that feeling you have right now? Get ready for more. Every song they've created is great. Which is why you should start at the beginning and do their whole catalog.
So glad to see people falling in love with this band. Sober for something earlier, Parabol/Parabola and Vicarious for a little later in their career, and Pneuma for something newer. And if you're at all a Led Zeppelin fan, their cover of No Quarter. Whichever way you choose, it's all good. Spiral out, man!
Thst feeling you're feeling is what we all felt once. We can't describe it, but we want more. 😮 Remember::: u don't listen to Tool...you experience it. 🌀 🌀 Spiral out 🌀🌀
Probably not a super common suggestion, but if you listen to everything in order, and do a little reading about Maynard, the themes of his life, and his mental development show through. It's somewhat fascinating to see him evolve from where he was with the Opiate EP to the feelings he shares with us on Fear Inoculum. That doesn't even begin to speak on the development of TOOL as a band with Paul on bass in the beginning and then Justin taking over after Paul left in 1995. Adam on guitar is always a treat. And Danny, man, he is just something else on those drums. I'm too high to speak justice on them all. My point remains, though, I strongly recommend listening to it all from the start, as daunting as it may seem.
Tool are the masters of the crescendo. They pull you along and you can't breathe and they soften so you can breathe, then pull you along again a little harder till you can't breathe and take a left turn then soften so you can breathe, then smash you over the head with a crescendo that goes from the bottom of the Marianas Trench to the summit of Mt. Everest in 30 seconds while going 100 miles an hour with no oxygen. Friggen awesomeness!
Tool songs come in many flavors so i'll just give a group of songs in different categories. If you want grand epic songs listen to -Vicarious -Lateralus -Parabol+Parabola. If you want heavy riffage and aggressive vocals listen to -Hooker with a Penny -Ænema -Ticks and Leeches If you want songs with incredible musicianship listen to -The Grudge -Third Eye -Lost Keys+Rosetta Stoned (its a weird one but its my favorite) And finally if you want more mellowed out songs with great pay-offs listen to -Right in Two -Schism -H I hope this isnt too long of a list but i think these are all solid listens that'll give you a lot of cool surprises, thanks for listening to my favorite band :)
Yeah, his vocals are unique, the whole band is. Some fans insist they are their own genre. So you want more? lol. Go back to the beginning with Sober, the 1st single from their debut album, and 2nd single overall. The 3rd album ,Laterlaus, is awesome. Schism, Parabola, and the title track. And for a song from their most recent album, Fear Inoculum, try Pneuma.
If you really want to hear their entire progression musically, check out their very first release, an EP called Opiate. It’s awesome!! It came out before Undertow with Sober, which was their first hit song.
"Kids Cover 46 and 2 by Tool / O'Keefe Music Foundation" is a great follow-up. Right in two, and a great cover of it - "Right in two (Tool cover) - Beard of Harmony ft. Yann Phayphet (Live recording)" Both versions of pushit... The full on Tool fans will treat you well with requests. These just happen to be my favorites originals to "covers"/alternates
Almost as wonderful as listening to this song for the first time is watching reaction videos of other people listening to this song for the first time. Welcome to the start of a fantastic journey. 🤘
I would recommend Pneuma next. It’ll be the longest song you’ve reacted to so far (just under 12 minutes), but damn near every second of that song is perfect. It’ll be a journey that I think you’d thoroughly enjoy.
This blew my mind in 1997. They have so many tracks as intense as 46&2. For something a little different, I'mma suggest "Flood" off their previous album.
@@davidward9737 Oh, I got that. I love every album in the order they are (especially Lateralus), however, if it opened with Eulogy then went into The Grudge I’d love it the same. The point is: “What’s your favorite Tool song?” I always answer “Yes” 🌀 Edit: And yes, I know Eulogy was on Aenima. Just saying that you could take any full track as an opener and it would be powerful. But I do agree that The Grudge floored me the first listen.
Lol..Tool is like that ,it is very suspenseful an reels you unexpectedly ,that is what is so exhilarating about it ,an now you got just a little taste ,I know you want more!..😂 Awesome reaction!..🤘👍
Tool makes you wait for the payoff and they know exactly when and where to leave you speechless 100% of the time. I have listened to them almost daily for 25 years and still get goosebumps. I'm excited for you to check it all out. I would suggest either starting from the beginning at this point or if you want to bounce around, I would check out the live version of Sober.
Check out “stinkfist” next brother! But you can’t go wrong w anything the tool army suggests. All amazing tracks. Also make sure you react to the audio versions of tool music and not their music videos as they can be a little distracting
I looooove Descending! It's a mellow-ish song from their last album, with heartbreaking lyrics. Discovered Tool with the Lateralus-album (f-ing awesome, all of it) and initially found the older stuff a bit too aggressive (although have all cd's). But a lot of the older songs have grown on me over the years. Sometimes it takes loads of listenings.
Good to see another TOOL fan in the making. Enjoy the journey brother. Good luck trying to find a song you won’t enjoy. Been 30 years a fan and still never gets old experiencing them.
Sober, The Grudge, Schism, H, Stinkfist, Wings for Marie, Lateralus, Right in Two, Eulogy, Jimmy, 7empest. Honestly, you could take anything from their discography at random and find a gem. Enjoy the journey.
In 1996 I heard to the Tower Records store on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollyweird Ca to check out new releases on those listening stations they had in the store. There was a line outside for concert tickets but I had no idea who TOOL were and the line was for that bands concert tickets. I went inside and asked if they had this TOOL. and on the listening stations and one of the workers walked me to that station. I put on the head phones and this song was currently playing and it grabbed my attention right away. Those listening stations only play like 20 seconds of a song so the little I heard convinced me to buy the album which was The Aenima album. I unwrapped the CD and slid it into my Alpine and forwarded it to the song I heard in the store named Forty Six &Two. I literally played that one song on a loop all the way back home. And been a fan ever since
I loved this. You need to listen to Lateralus. Man you haven’t even began to understand the complexity of the masters of music in this band. Adam, Paul and Danny are geniuses. They will spend forever in the studio crafting, composing and writing their songs then they send the songs off to Maynard and he writes the lyrics and records them over the song. He considers his voice an instrument in the band just like any other member.
Yeah, you just have to listen to every song they have and judge for yourself. I like when you said, “…it was like they opened up senses within you you never new you had!” I think everyone is a Tool fan, they might not know it as yet!
Great reaction! Welcome to the world of Tool!! Check out Jambi or Lateralus or Vicarious or The Grudge or Sober!! You can't go wrong with any Tool song. They are all unique, yet they are all TOOL!!! Enjoy the ride, brother.
Welcome to the tool army. ...spiral out. I think you might be ready for Lateralus and 3rd eye. Changes upon changes. Lyrics are important...enjoy the journey
You can only hear Tool for the first time once. We live vicariously through you as you discover Tool. Love the reaction! Suggestions...The Grudge, Jambi, Hooker with a penis, Ænima. Enjoy your journey brother! Spiral out! 🌀
I think people get turned off by older Tool tracks because Maynard’s voice is mixed more of the middle of the track, it’s hard to hear him but it’s on purpose. They want you to listen more closely as well as his voice is an instrument. Lyrics are great but his voice is the icing on the cake.
Loving the reactions, keep em coming! That said, my first recommendations would be: Parabol/Parabola(Technically two songs, but listen as one), Hooker With A Penis, Opiate, and Vicarious. Get ready for a helluva ride! TOOL is truly an experience!
HELL YEAH! Keep bringing more Tool for us. If u wanna some hard shit, check The Grudge; If u wanna some deep lyrics with life perspectives, try Parabola or Lateralus (my fav) If u wanna see how they can get fuckin creative musically, check Right in Two/Descending I mean, any Tool song is good for a review, just keep diggin and we will love to see your honest reactions Cheers from Brazil!
Forgot to add: if you wanna TRIP HARD, check out Lost keys/Rosetta Stoned (two separate musics, but the first is really short and only a preparation to the second one) or check ou Third Eye. If u like to trip, these two is a MUST
So this is why Tool fans dig Tool reactions. As much as we love the music, The only real sense of wonder is on the first listen. So we get to relive it vicariously through react videos. I think you'd dig The Grudge, and Right in 2. Those songs are a bit longer and introduce their odd time signatures without changing things up too much.
Now you know Danny! I think a lot of people new to Tool go into it expecting the traditional 4 band member sound and then are just completely thrown out the window.
If you think this is good. Wait until you listen to the musical masterpiece that is Lateralus. Love watching Tool fans being born. Takes me back 30 years to the first time I heard Sober. Spiral out! 🌀
Haha brilliant reaction 😂😂😂 Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪.. Stinkfist, Parabol/Parabola ( don’t watch video on this one it’s too distracting) , Schism, Lateralus, Rosetta Stoned, the list goes on and on. When listening to Tool be prepared the journey 🌀out 🤘🏼
LMAO, you have to learn to be patient with most tool songs...its always coming, you just never know when 🤣 do the live drum cam of danny playing pneuma! you will be in absolute awe, i promise
😂 haha oh shit here we go again.... You'll enjoy this ride. You can't really go wrong with the whole catalog so just shoot at random. But I'm going to say go to pushit the aenema version that gets my vote however the the salival live version is also rad.
I can see the twinkle in his eye…welcome to the tribe buddy! LoL Next suggestion for them is Pneuma Danny Carry drumcam. Their drummer is bar none one of the best to ever play….check it out man, just remember to bring a helmet. 🤯
Humans normally have 46 chromosomes. Maynard's lyrics refer to the Jungian philosophy of Drunvalo Melchizedek, who poses a thought experiment in which the human being has evolved from 44 chromosopmes to 46, and the next level of development is 46 +2 chromosomes. Maynard uses it as a metaphor for the evolution of the individual. "Picking scabs again" is about rumination on the psychic wounds, regrets, guilts, etc that we pick up and carry through life, "picking out what could have been." Jung proposed the "shadow" as a symbol of what we try not to see in ourselves; it is made of those things we pick at. We cannot grow by rejecting the shadow, we must accept our shadow and incorporate it into our consciousness in order to be whole and grounded. Make The Grudge your next track. I will be right here in the comments again.
Wait until you do a live reaction. Make sure to hit each phase of live show. Early, mid-career (peak performance) and then late (Maynard in the back but mind-blowing stage. Hint: Even though their music is so complex they're as tight live as on recording. As good as Tool is at recording, the real Tool experience is live. That's where they shine.
Took Stinkfist is my favorite. Deals with needing more and more of something to be satisfied and possibly still never getting there. Like social media for example but of course Tool puts a nice twist on it!
I love watching people discovering their favorite band.
Especially when it's Tool, ammirite? They truly defy classification. I want to call them progressive metal, but I really feel like that just doesn't do them justice, because their music covers so much ground! I came in, I found Tool, that's all I know.
Perfectly said.
Every Fucking song will do something different to you......this is a one of kind band man.....and I got two words for you and the TOOl Army will surely agree...THE GRUDGE !!!!!!
Right on
I wanted to like your comment. But it currently has 23 likes. That’s how many seconds long the scream is towards the end of “The Grudge.” 😉
Listen to Jambi, but you listen to it in order, Jambi is the second song. So you listen to Eulogy or Wings for Marie part 1
You know that feeling you have right now? Get ready for more. Every song they've created is great. Which is why you should start at the beginning and do their whole catalog.
I agree, it’s great to feel the evolution of their music through the years
You’re hooked. We can all see it. Just about anything would be the next best Tool song to listen to. There aren’t any bad ones
So glad to see people falling in love with this band. Sober for something earlier, Parabol/Parabola and Vicarious for a little later in their career, and Pneuma for something newer. I hope this isnt too long of a list but i think these are all solid listens that'll give you a lot of cool surprises, thanks for listening to my favorite band :)
Very nice. Couldn’t have said it better.

More Tool songs! The army will guide your way. Good luck!
Their album UNDERTOW has lots of gems. Title song, Bottom, Crawl Away, 4°. Strap in..
Strap in brother! It’s going to be one hell of a journey! Ride that spiral! 🫀🧠✨🍄🌊👽🐙🥁🎸🎤

Would love him to react to Aenima, Crawl Away, Intolerance, Vicarious, H, oh the hell with it all of their songs. Keep it up and "Learn to swim" 🌊
The Grudge by TOOL is the best album opener ever
Yes. Yes it is.
Hmm "Intolerance" and "Stinkfist" might have something to say about that
Any song would be a great opener honestly lol
@@JesseJames7-8-9 very true. I think he is referring to 1st songs on a album though

IM WITH YOU SINCE UNDERTOW 1993 AND SEEN THEM LIVE MANY TIMES tool army
I'm 59 and I've been Tool Army since 93! Wizards they are!!! It's the ultimate sonic and lyrical journey!
Lateralus, the Grudge, Danny Carey drum cam are most commonly after this. Looking forward to it!
Excellent choice!! It will make you think so be careful lol. Fantastic reaction. Please keep it up.
If you ever get a chance to see them live this song will explode your brain. Especially the ending…..brings one to tears. I’m not kidding.

Parabol/Parabola is a must in the catalog!..They MUST be done together!!!

I so dig first time tool reactions and thank you for letting me take that journey with you.

Just close your eyes and go with it. Whatever reaction you have is the right one as long as it's honest. Enjoy yourself.
Grudge,Lateralus and Zempest the mellow out with Right in two
If you get just one TOOL ARMY person to join, you are on your way to being one yourself.
They give you an exp always they are the most amazing band to exist lol
Tool is like Beethoven mixed with Gospel vocals and tribal percussions.
Gotta do The Grudge. Holding grudges will destroy you! Epic scream! And Amazing drumming as well !
Keep going.
You will not be disappointed at all.
TOOL has no bad songs. Welcome to the Spiral.
Tool. The best. Ever
