A huge horde of horse archers is how most of my play throughs turn out. It's so easy to get a small band of early horse archers and just hunt looters, then bands of imperials. It's a snowball effect once you get a good amount of men to win battles and take war horses to turn into more men.
Yeah, the desert factions almost always have most of their kingdom intact and win most AI vs AI/sim battles if it's equal and if it's 50-100 against their favor. The horse archers need a nerf.
3:51 On the contrary, you don't want shieldbearers with large hearts. Large hearts are easier to stab; the ones who survived multiple stabbings directly to the chest surely had smaller hearts and therefore greater survivability. 4:20 That's a partially-shaven Penn Jilette
If you kept the army in square formation while the mounted archers shot their arrows, they would be protected from behind. And once the archers were out of ammo, they charge in and meet their fate. That's how you play that
Unless the projectiles arc over and the hit the men at the back who are facing the other way. It would work if you were positioned on the top of a hill and the enemy had to shoot upwards at a steep incline. However, I'm not sure how realistic the kinematics is in this video game

My Bannerlord successes are as follows: becoming a sell-sword under a king then proceed to raid every enemy village you can safely, if your king calls for peace, leave them without punishment and go work for basically anyone who is at war. Repeat this until your army has bathed this the blood of the unwashed masses and become elite monstrosities to unleash upon your foe. Then start a siege with your enemy, be the only one group to show up because it's in the middle of nowhere, take the castle, declare yourself king of your new nation, and unleash your killsquad on every enemy that gets between you and kicking God's ass.
That's a good strategy but my personal favorite is to strategically ally and marry into the most powerful families of a kingdom. When I have sufficient support and influence I call the current leader to my army. We have a good time, fight some enemies, you know the deal and then suddenly the king is dead. As my javelin pierced their skull the fate of the kingdom was sealed. In the elections all the influential families back me and I am declared their leader. After this I peel back their rights and strengthen my own, creating something akin to an absolute monarchy. All will kneel before the Javelin Emperor!
I tried a horse archer run a while ago.. you can just run around the enemy in circles and shoot them, as long as you take out the enemy cavalry first. Then when you are out of arrows simply retreat and re-engage and you'll magically have arrows again 😂 this way it's possible to take out an enemy several times the size of yours with minimal losses, as long as you have the patience to run in circles for hours 🤣
I laughed a bit when he said "not realistic at all" to the open field and horse archer thing. It's kinda what, at least on a military level, hard stalled the Romans and their identical tactics.
Your best bet with a shield heavy army is the square formation, just letting the Archer Cav. waste their ammo on your shields. Still may not win, but it would be your best bet in this scenario.
Square and you hug some corner of the map. Since HA likes to run around you if you hug a corner it fucks with their pathfinding. Rocky hills and dense forests also help. Man i rly hate fighting the horse horde.

Well actually, its called a war of attrition, where one side baits the other into constantly attacking, knowing they can't resupply their forces fast enough to keep up the attack, until supplies or troops are exhausted. However, if the enemy in question has allies they'll more than likely be able to resupply the attacking force, so it really only happens between two equally powered forces.
