Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
It would be funny if fantano just reviewed this one and acted like the first album didn’t exist 😂
i really hope that doesn’t happen
It’ll probably happen
@@XxKoRupTioN fucking 100% will happen, because this channel is a joke.
he said he was gonna review it in the weekly track round up
and the "didn't watch the video but still commented something extremely nonsensical and got hundreds of likes" award goes tooooo
I’m honestly glad this wasn’t the only Skrillex album to be released after 9 years, because this would be a much bigger disappointment for me if Quest For Fire didn’t exist. That album feels much more like Skrillex than this one does.
I think it's on purpose. he wouldn't release it without quest for fire, they can't exist without each other
Even the cover art of QFF is so much better
Quest for Fire was absolutely the better of the two no joke.
Ditto
@@stanislawignacy QFF can definetly exist without this one
This just means Quest For Fire is getting the yellow flannel
i hope it’s true
It's the one he keeps tweeting about, so maybe
Don't get your hopes up
Its at least a 7 imo solid yellow flannel contender
QFF is exactly that, fire. I'm 23 and I've been listening to Skrillex since I was 12 and DGTC is absolute hot garbage. QFF is definitely the better of the 2
This dude is about to get the fastest 3-8 in history
Edit: This dude now holds the fasest 3-7 comeback in history
spoiler alert
Actually he reviewed them backwards the other one came out first.
Lmao
It's actually cool that Skrillex is getting a lot of praise, I remember when this guy used to be hated by the "I was born in the wrong generation" crowd lol
It's mostly because the older crowd didn't get it and still don't understand just how impactful and talented an artist he is. But the younger crowd who got it are growing up and getting more involved on the internet and music journalism/media exposure.
It's hilarious when old metalheads slander off the whole electronic music, they always drag Skrillex and say "ooh he's just pushing buttons that's not music". Damn, it feels nostalgic but I'm glad I grown out of that cringey phrase.
How could you hate him. He's such a chill and quiet dude. Love the SkrillMeister.
@@SwatBeatsOfficial boomers man, I tell ya. They will hate not only the modern music, but also the people who made modern music. They literally want this guy dead like literally they're posting comments like "God bring us Freddy mercury back and we will give you Skrillex"
@@Iloveyou-dz7mq Lmao ikr i feel bad for him. Dubstep ain't my cup of tea but I don't giving inhumane threats like that.
Very glad all these songs were put on to a separate album instead of added on to Quest for Fire
Um. Yes. Very much so
I was worried it would be a bloated 30 track double album but splitting it in two was the right move. Skrillex always says he makes whatever he wants no matter what is expected from him. But he also knows what the people, his fans especially, wanna hear from him. I think this was the best way of presenting this body of work. And as someone who doesn’t like DGTC, it saves me a lot of skips.
imo these songs just put out the fire of the quest
I think skrillex created this album to act as a pop/more accessible accessible counterpart to “a quest for fire”. it’s not supposed to be super inventive, but just enjoyed by the masses, much like the diplo collab album. I think that there’s a few cuts here that deserve a little more credit (real spring w/bladee was quite enjoyable in my opinion), but a quest for fire ratios this record by a long run.
It feels like the Honestly Nevermind of Skrillex’s catalog. I could see people doing a Drake and Drive to this album.
It really does feel like a B side companion to QFF. Skrillex has even said it’s not a rave album, just a chill record you can listen to in your car if you get the time. He obviously isn’t taking it too seriously. I don’t even think it would’ve been worth a review had it not been so heavily requested.
selecta was the best track in it
Yeah I quite enjoyed a few cuts but I think the singles were by far my favorite ones of this album and those in addition to QFF being a banger put my expectations too high, and then the rest of the album was just... bleh.
100%. Normies and younger gen will prob like songs off this album way more
You'd give this a ten if this was the second album in 24 hours by King Gizzard and the Skrillex Wizard
id listen to that collab for sure haha
I liked the rawness and unfinished touches to don't get too close the track.. it sounded like friends just riffing in a studio, not caring that this was a major artist release. honestly my most listened to track on the album 😂
Same !! I thought it was a really beautiful track. Like I got the sense they were just singing what they felt at the time and there wasn’t this care for “cool” lyricism, but just straight up rawness/realness. It’s my fav track.
exactly
They laugh and stuff I was 95% sure it was a joke and having fun in the studio, but Fantano not picking up on that is Lowkey gaslighting me now 💀😭
Yeah but that doesn't mean it actually sounded good. I think Fantano's critique is spot on. It has the length of a full song, but it's really just an interlude with commentary. To me, that was misleading and when I first heard it, I was like "tf is this??"
@@silastoombs You're right, no one can fuck around on a track for more than 2 min, it's the law.. Dude shut up. Likes and critiques are all subjective and that's cool you agree with fantano but doesn't mean others cant truly enjoy it
If Bladee was on this album you would've given it an 8

9/10 for sure. Butterflies is arguably the worst track on the Album I think we can all agree lol
@@mgf909 it’s probably the one I skip the most but only because it’s just not the same energy level as the rest. On its own it’s pretty great and I love the Four Tet style chime part in the latter half.

HARD DISAGREE on selecta being generic, the FM bass pattern at 1:12 is genuinely so refreshing and sick!
Yea that’s like the one good song on the album
@@typicallymoody I would like Way Back a lot more if not for Trippie Redd. His nasally ass voice is so annoying to me, but I like the general vibe and PinkPantheress's vocals a lot. Just ever time it goes back to Trippie I'm desperately wishing he'd shut the fuck up
@@negative6442 I feel that. Don’t get me wrong, the album is pretty chill and enjoyable to listen to, but it’s quite generic and pretty forgettable with the exception of selecta. That track sounds like something you’d hear at an alien party. Blows the rest of the album out of the water
@@typicallymoody 3am is good too. Though tbh, none of the songs off this album are gonna make their way into my regular rotation. But ig this album is made for people who aren't nearly as deep into electronic shit as I am, or people who just want something more relaxed, which is fine.
Interesting that you chose to review this one before QFF, which came about before DGTC - and which I really hope you do cover because it’s so much more accomplished and reflective of Skrillex’s talent and range as a musician
You’re reactions are nothing compared to Lynchmaleideals 🤡
i think so too selecta was a good track tho it was exactly the kind of track i was searching for thx for your videos btw!
Ayy Nawtystep! Fancy meeting you here!

He said he will be reviewing that album soon.
DGTC didn't grew on me too but I love it how Skrillex kinda created his own world with these albums. some vocal samples are used on both albums almost as references and alternative version and when you listen one after another you feel like that DiCaprio meme poiting at the tv and this made DGTC better for me
As others said, I think it's good that Skrillex released 2 separate albums to contain all of these tracks. There really are some great/underrated songs on this album in particular, despite it not quite hitting the mark the way that QFF did. Way Back, Real Spring, 3am, Mixed Signals, and Painting Rainbows shine through and really showcase his versatility as a producer. I just don't think the other half of this album carries its weight, it kinda just fades into the background noise of the current mainstream music scene. Don't Get Too Close also captured my attention quite a bit because of its clean ambient textures and almost stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Although I think its most notable quality is the way that it gracefully segues into the penultimate track. Basically, it's a fantastic setup for Mixed Signals but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it on its own.
I think one aspect that doesn't get enough credit is the way that certain vocals are re-contextualized/reinforced from Quest For Fire (or vice versa), such as Bobby Raps' " please don't leave me like this...", BEAM's "DJ, pull up the tune...", and Bibi Bourelly's "still here with the ones that I came with". There's something to be said about the way that this interconnection between the two projects lends to a sense of familiarity and comfort, but expanding any further on that would dig way deeper into my own emotions/opinions than the rest of this comment already has. I just think it's neat!
Of course this is all just my opinion! I'd personally give this a 6/10, because despite being a fan of only about half of the album, even the tracks that feel like they just "fade into the background noise" are clean and skillfully produced, and I respect that!
edit: TL;DR, it's not that bad of an album imo.
100% agreed 👏
I would like Way Back a lot more if not for Trippie Redd. His nasally ass voice is so annoying to me, but I like the general vibe and PinkPantheress's vocals a lot. Just every time it goes back to Trippie I'm desperately wishing he'd shut the fuck up
i like this album way more than quest for fire and there is quite literally nothing you guys can do about it
Same here, bro. You're not alone.
Same here lads. Ceremony is my new alltime favorite track from Sonny. Enjoyed 3am and my girlfriend and I listen to Selecta a lot together.
Same here
Quest For Fire blows this one out of the water but Real Spring + Ceremony are really great
bladee fr is like a cheat code, he makes anything good. bro just has catchy vocal melodies pouring out of him
I agree but those two tracks seem to have gotten the most hate i’ve seen online out of the album
@@samuelwhite1228 the casual pop listener is gonna hate bladee tbf
The whole album is great but I honestly gotta agree with the melon on Bad for Me
Real Spring is absolute pop perfection jn my book, obsessed with that hideous yet amazing drop
Haven’t heard a skrillex song since like 2013 bloody hell
despite the review, he actually has came out with good tracks in the past couple years. you should give Rumble and My Existence a try
He released an album titled 'Quest for Fire' last week that's much better than this.
not even Purple Lamborghini???
I do find Dont Get Too Close (the song) and 3am to be much more akin to old songwriting by skrillex.
Before his bangarang days, there was that cringe, emo kid vibe, full of just random takes and innocence over small melodies. And I appreciate that being on this album, and do think they fall nicely inline with Skrillex, in a throwback way. Anthony Green and Sonny toured together before if memory serves, etc
However the other tracks are largely forgettable.
3am and the title track were the stand outs to me as well. As a huge circa survive fan seeing Anthony Green featuring on a song made me so happy to see.
@@1BenDoverWilson also a massive fan of circa survive and anthony here, but it was kinda disappointing imo since most of the track was the kid and not anthony. wish he had a bigger part but either way, not really something id listen to
its funny because skrillex knew quest for fire was way better because he hasnt advertised this one on socials much
I think it's because he wanted to release as "surprise" and when it was actually released he was playing on MSG with Fred and Four Tet lol
Honestly, 2013's Recess grew A LOT on me, I really love most of the tracks in that project
It's kinda underrated tbh. Ease My Mind is still among my favorite Skrillex songs
*2014 but yeah. Coast is Clear is one of my all-time favorite songs, definitely my favorite Chance song.
@@GameFreak164Xthat last drop, where the drums cut out and it’s just hi hats and the synth, THEN that fill 😤😤😤

Here’s to hoping Quest For Fire gets a positive review. That one is one of my favorite albums of 2023 so far which is saying a lot.
Facts qff as been heavy in my rotation
Quest For Fire would still be good if it were nothing but Skrillex’s drums. His percussion game is next level.
@@dawsonhicks5929 yeah it’s insane, makes me realize how much my own drum game is lacking
Maybe its cause we're barely into 2023? lol
Is it saying a lot? This year been kinda dry so far ngl
I love both the opener and the closer of DGTC. Hope he also mentions the interplay of both albums if he goes to review QFF
idk if there's any point in bringing up the shared elements, they're a cute gimmick but both albums are too impersonal to find any deeper meaning from examining them
If this album was called “Get Really Close,” then you would’ve given it a 10.
I straight up skipped this one based on the singles
Quest for Fire was pretty solid tho!
I think this album as a companion piece to QFF is really special, but alone it would have been pretty disappointing as Skrillex’s first project in years. The way certain samples and phrases cross from one album to the other really adds to my enjoyment of both projects.
This was def the weaker of the two. Very formulaic.
Quest for Fire > Don't Get Too Close, but I really love the intro to the song "Mixed Signals," which has a Porter Robinson-esque synth melody, and I like the song Don't Get Too Close, but not for a casual listen. I do miss dubstep Skrillex. Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, More Monsters and Sprites, and Bangarang are 3 of my favorite EPs, with Bangarang being one of my top 2 favorite EPs of all time, especially the masterpiece "Summit," which to this day is one of my top 3-5 favorite songs of all time.
I'm curious to hear what Fantano thinks about Still Here (with the ones that I came with) from Quest for Fire, which is by far my favorite song on either album, and right now my favorite song of the year by far.
It's like Skrill knew these were the B sides and didn't want to mess with Quest for Fire too much, this one was just lil bops. I genuinely like Sunmertime and Bad For Me
Obviously not the preferred album, but he couldn't have had any better of an idea splitting these up into two like he did. It's solid as hell for what it is.
I no doubt would have been disappointed if this was the only album, but it's sick as hell as a little extra supplemental project on top of Quest for Fire.
100% agree. It's like a nice little dessert treat after a delicious meal.
@@jimbalaya_ Well said!
definitely agree with this. Its a nice album and a good contrast from Quest for Fire. Obviously Quest For Fire is superior in nearly every way and if this was released on its own it would be dissapointing but knowing its alongside Quest For Fire makes it just a little addition
Yeah when I listened to both albums, Quest for Fire had some absolute bops (you literally put one of them in your best songs of the week), while this album went in one ear, out the other.
He literally put 5 of them in the best tracks many different times. Butterflies, Rumble, Xena, Leave Me Like This and Ratata.

right? I was shook when he said "underwhelming"
when i heard about the anthony green feature i was so stoked, it had so much potential 😢
Love this album. The more I listen, the more I like it. Subtle, but a perfect palette cleanser after QFF.
I hope Skrillex keeps releasing one banger album like QFF and one commercial album (DGTC). That way we get a crazy good album, one ok one where Skrillex gets his bag, and we get more music overall. I see this as an absolute win lmfao
Skrillex is 100% getting a red and a yellow flannel on the same day I swear to god 😂
i understand the points anthony is making but i had a fun time with this one, if one lacking some substance.
3am and real spring are phenomenal imo and i dig summertime
I personally feel like this album sounds better if you know how hard Quest For Fire is. I wasn't very into this project either but QFF is exactly the Skrillex record I wanted so I'm way more lenient with this one.
was hoping you’d review both albums in the same review and do the AJR thing where you wore both yellow and red flannels
DGTC feels like an album of friends just making music. Just having fun together. I really love this analysis tho!
QFF is fav album out of the 2 ❤
I’m a big Skrillex fan and this video actually clarified why it’s not a good album. Yes it’s a pop album but it doesn’t really make sense and I only like 3/4 songs from it. However QFF is much better and has a consistent sound and really shows the true Skrillex productions. Overall I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t agree with Anthony’s review unless they really like everything but good job Anthony! Looking forward to ur next Skrillex album review
I just wanted to express how much I connected with the title track, it really makes me feel nostalgic and sad. You can be cynical and portray it as superficial and corny, but for the people who connect with it, it really feels authentic. Most of the other tracks are pretty mid, but music doesn't have to be groundbreaking to resonate.
w take
Yeah, fantano calling the song “cringe” I didn’t agree with at all. The song to me felt very intimate and vulnerable, especially when Sonny himself comes in on vocals. The lyrics are obviously channeling his younger self (school day won’t end, writing songs in the garage with my friends. Etc) and him singing really drives it home for me.
Real, i actually cried to that song. I was hoping the rest of the album would be similar
hard agree, thanks for sharing. the song is clearly deliberately childlike, from Bibi's rough spoken interjections to the seemingly teen-edgelord lyrics. a phrase like "nobody knows me" is a total cliché, but in the context of the song, it's naive and deeply sincere in a way that only a kid could be
@@jonathanneel4266 if anything it’s supposed to be kind of cringy sounding. At least the vocals. But like in a good nostalgic sense. Fantano really doesn’t get anything that isn’t on the surface for him I feel

Quest for Fire is fantastic. Definitely prefer that one. This one is super one note to me.
Looking forward to the QFF review, definitely do the Overmono album when it comes out as well!
Place your bets for quest for fire getting tha yellow or white
Based on what you said in the track review, I take it the other album he dropped will be generally more positive from you.
The other record is 2 billion times better and more unique than this one.
he's also been tweeting a lot more about Quest for Fire so I think he likes it more (I do too)

This very much seems like a situation of "one for them, one for me". Put all the high profile collabs and pop-centric songs in one album, and all the good stuff in the other.
Hi Fantano
Been watching u for so many years

Had to come here to hear your take. The album had moments, but I was really looking forward to this being a HUGE banger front to back.
Im a little sad you didn’t go into talking about 3am with Anthony green from Circa survive. I thought he had the best feature off the album and I like the little link between skrillex being the old from first to last lead and Anthony bring from circa and being in that same genre
i like the title track. i think the vocals are like that on purpose. matches the adolescent lyrics. granted i heard it first while watching the music video so imagining the little hedgehog singing just makes it cute for me
This feels like the comercial release, while Quest For Fire is the artistic one
How are you reviewing this one before Quest For Fire? Must mean Quest For Fire is a classic
You may be right about the Yung Lean and Bladee cuts fitting better on their own catalouge. Maybe it would be better if Skrillex actually produced and album for them, although I wasn't the biggest fan of the Skrillex cuts we got on Stardust.
Missed opportunity for this man to do a double review video
i think the song Don’t Get Too Close is meant to be like an exploratory in the moment kind of song instead of overproduced like most pop? like they’re talking about ideas in the background and it feels very spur the moment. not my favorite song but as a creative exercise that’s personal to sonny i can definitely respect it
Someone in the skrillex reddit said that it's a song that Skrillex wrote when he was a teenager and that's why the lyrics are what they are. Idk if that's true though

I do agree on a number of your points but I'm not on board with what you said about the Trippie Red feature, I think it's quite good. Also the title track is corny as fuck but I still like the vibe, it actually touches me at the end somehow. I'd give the album a light to decent 5
I honestly didn't expect this reaction. I loved the album. 🤷
Sad you didn’t like this one! I liked the whole lot of feature crossovers here. Some stuff you’d only hear on a Skrillex album.
I thought Selecta is a great song. LOL
That's my favourite off this album, I'd listen to it multiple times for sure.
After reading all the comments I’m glad to see I’m not that only one that sees this one as the phone in album for radio, etc
Hope Quest for Fire gets a more positive review if you decide to touch on it
Quest for Fire is SO good though, so I’ll let it slide
With that album cover a red flannel was inevitable
Agree with a lot in here - but the “Phil Collins”-ish” ending to the title track is because it mixes into the next track Mixed Signals which it seems like you missed/didn’t speak about?
Quest for fire was a much better project IMO.
I feel like there’s some somewhat decent songs on here but QFF is a true return to form for him - need that QFF review expeditiously
The album art makes me feel like texting a number on a TV commercial with my new Motorola Razr to get a “free” ringtone
Seeing Anthony Green on this album made me so happy, I couldn't believe it, pair that with Yung Lean and Bladee and that's a must cop situation for me. I got it on vinyl and it's amazing, I'm not even a Skrillex fan.
I’m split on this record. I can see why it got a three because it has some terrible cuts on it, but the songs that were good i like so much and have played on repeat. Quest for fire better though as a whole project.
Whoa I had no idea that he dropped two albums, I’d only heard Quest for Fire, I guess I’ll have to check this one out?…
Not sure when it became the trend to hate on skrillex. The first release My Name Is Skrillex and Scary Monsters will always be greats, created a whole new genre
I knew this was coming I couldn't stand my first listen
In all fairness, a lot of electronic albums from DJs exist to serve dj sets as transitions
I did enjoy a couple tracks off this album but generally agree with your assessment. This felt like b-sides from Quest For Fire.
Also an interesting topic for the second channel, all the people on social media shitting on Four Tet for DJing with Skrillex. It feels super elitist and unnecessary. Let the man cook.
selecta was sooo goooood
Fantano doesn’t have a favorite track on the album, that’s how you know it’s very consistent
I think Skrillex jst wanna be there for his fans everywhere through music
Like first album for party nd Hanging out music
Second album for chilling around while hiking smokin'up maybe tht way , depressed too
So yeah this way bro gettin into Every moodlist
I can't believe a melon is teasing me with an album review. Quest for fire when?
As a fan, I enjoyed this album even though I know this is not the best stuff he has . At artistic levels, this album does face many issues that we surface level listeners can't tell .
I guess this album is the experimental part of his discography, so we can't expect much from this album except enjoying it .
I think there’s a lot more to dissect out of this album. Quest For Fire was pretty much the safest move for Skrillex, and this is him experimenting with his emo roots and some new sounds. There’s some weird moments, but I love that this album feels much more personal to Sonny
I’m sorry but this is definitely not a very good opinion
How does this have a higher score than Ultraviolence 😭
I bought this on vinyl just for the cover and the music is great too so now anthony has to hate on electronic music as usual.
I liked it aside from Summertime and Bad For Me tbh. Thought the "jammin and adlibbing with your friends" vibe of Don't Get Too Close was nice. :)
Now I understand😂 I’ve been listening to both albums and thought they were decent, but when I think about it QFF has way more solid bangers. Ratata, Xena, Too Bizarre & Good Space 🔥
I haven’t listened to this one yet, but the other one I think is pretty good
