Drake has given us bangers, memes, a Raptors championship, a sea-change in our culture, and clown material for years. Ups and downs, he could retire right now and be remembered as a pop legend forever. Funny thing is, I don’t think I’d miss what “could have been.”
Just as a foil here, I hope that Kendrick keeps making music until he’s 110. I want to hear what a 70-year-old Kendrick has to say about the world and his life in it. I want to hear what a 90-year old Kendrick feels he has to express. Not kidding.

I think Drake could probably do with a sort of soft retirement, rather than fully exiting from music. It feels like over the last few years his primary concern has become staying relevant and chasing streaming numbers, rather than releasing quality music. He's really become the embodiment of quantity over quality. I think a retirement from that kind of mindset, and all the stress and pressures that come with it, and a shift back towards making solely the music that he wants to make, on his own schedule, could be good for him. I think he has one more Take Care or IYRTITL left in him.

Drake needs to make his own Yeezus or 808's and Heartbreak, he has the ability to be so experimental and change the game completely. He is on the top of the game and probably his game too and he needs to inspire himself and move himself to making that happen unlike Honestly, Nevermind. Drake can do it, and I really hope he does it, but he just really needs to take his time on the album instead of making it sound rushed like Honestly Nevermind. Drake is literally at the peak to change the game and hit the game so hard that he will leave an even bigger mark on Hip-Hop culture. I do think the man is talented and can create an album that would be a 10 whether in our opinions or Fantano’s if he applied himself more and sought different ideas and inspirations. I think the quote "did you get into music to be creative? Or to be the top guy in a rap popularity contest" sums up the majority of artists that are becoming mainstream nowadays. You can clearly see the strike contrast between someone who is genuinely making music to express themselves, or to just make a quick hit that makes a good chunk of change. That's the majority of artists in any genera. Kendrick Lamar vs Lil Pump for example. Kendrick expresses himself to the best of his ability, and genuinely takes time to hone and perfect his craft while making music. Lil Pump put on a 2min loop screamed GUCCI GANG and D.ROSE for the entirety of the loop, uploaded it, got lucky, popped off over night and fell off harder than Kanye. Talent vs no talent. Its very clear

Lil pump definitely had talent. People tend to forget that it’s MUSIC, not poetry or literature. I dislike Kendrick and would listen to lil pump any day before anything by Kendrick. Pump has great tunes, flow, tone, it’s catchy in a rhythmic way. Pump doesn’t make his own bears btw, it’s many great and talented producers. Simple doesn’t mean bad. Nor is it wrong to write party lyrics that aren’t socially conscious. Kendrick can be pretentious, sanctimonious, and seems to lose sight of what matters most which is the MUSIC. Many rappers including pump can compose verses with more interesting verses with melody , rhythm, hooks, far superior to Lamar.

Drake needs to do a full blown R&B album where he actually utilizes his OVO artists like dvsn, Roy Woods, Majid Jordan and PND. Outside of PND, he rarely collaborates with any of them and it makes no sense.
Then throw on additional features from 6lack, Bryson Tiller, Daniel Caesar, Brent Faiyaz, The Weeknd etc. Get some smooth piano and pitched up vocal samples and you’re looking at a classic.

Here's my opinion on this, and its quite a simple concept, really: people should retire when they're on top of their game. Andre 3K did it, and its considered a GOAT by most. Eminem should have, even if I personally enjoy his last bodies of work. There's a sense of elegance in just leaving when you're desired, wanted, and cherished instead of being forced to leave because you're no longer necessary.

I believe any artist who isn't inspired anymore should retire and look for another path to venture or just live the rest of your life. A lot of these musicians initalially have the fire to make it bc they have so much to gain: money, fame, love, sex, power, notoriety, etc. But once you achieve all of that, the thrill of it all wanes, I imagine. And it becomes obviously evident in music they put out. Drake seems to be in a perfect position to take the pressure of being relevant off his shoulders, take his flowers, and exit stage left. Maybe he could return to acting 🤔 Or go the Rihanna route and create a product to sell if money is his motivation. He has so many options to choose from. Music doesn't have to be his whole life. Plus he has a beautiful son now. Pour life into that little guy :)

And she doesn't look like getting bored, she still tries to do new things and things that she believes are true to herself. She could have stopped once 1989 was out, what was she gonna do next? A lot of similarities between the two for sure. They came up at the same time, in a much different time and are probably the two most iconic musicians of their generation--- still on top of pop+rap a decade and a half later. Taylor mentioned in her documentary about her fears of feeling her moment has passed, but of course that was before Midnights. Drake is expressing the same here but much like Taylor, is very unlikely to fade from the spotlight because they are both chameleons and built globally successful brands/followings around their craft.
