actually its not about columbine
Trollerman71244 they made it in honor of columbine, lead singer said in an interview
pumped up kicks is about columbine, the killers went for jocks n they wore whatever was the thing at the time, pumped up kicks was 80/90 slang for the best shoes
Skeletorskittles no, it's a mall shooting.

Where is Bullet-Hollywood Undead
It's literally completely about suicide and o u c h
My school used to play pumped up kicks during lunch until the principal realized what it was about
LMAO
How the hell did they let pass "out run my bullet"
I would be laughing way to much to eat.
OOF
This was back in '89 and '90 but my freshman year of HS we had a juke box in the cafeteria. One song that got played a lot was GNR's "Mr Brownstone". About drugs.
But yeah, a lot of times the older generation doesn't pay much attention to the new generation's music. Even if they do, every generation had plenty of sketchy songs. Not sure why your principal freaked out over "pumped up kicks". I guarantee the music he grew up with probably had a more negative message.
For those wondering:
Mamma Mia: a song about an abusive relationship
Paper Planes: a song about how many feel about immigrants
Hey ya: a guy doesn't love his gf anymore, but she still loves him
Big league: His son is dead
Born in the USA: a Vietnam veteran gets treated like nothing upon returning to America
Aww, I was wondering. 😋
Thanks for explaining. I was wondering why Hey Ya was on there...
how well thx for the knowledge on mamma Mia I thought the one about the son being dead was he was killing people oh and do u know about little talks and bubbles?
Cakelover 10 I know little talks (it a song about suicide and a dead loved one) but I don't know of a song called bubbles.
+Mark Muhammad paper planes kinda sounds like she wants to shoot you and steal your money

I remember laughing at a kid cause he is the class clown then he said "Man I'll kill myself if I failed which I did"! Me and my friend was laughing 🤣 then he said " I will".. Then our faces was like 😳 then we got in trouble because of that

"Oh no," by Marina and the Diamonds is really about perfectionism
"Teenagers," by MCR is really about school shootings
"Help," by the Beatles is actually about Depression
"Holiday" by Green day is actually about war and obsession
Yet the melody is energetic and upbeat

"It's alright" by Mother Mother
Ok, this would not make the list because it both does and does not fit, but I want to mention it anyway. The song doesn't exactly sound like it's full of energy and happiness, but it has a bit of it. And the "it's alright" is not sarcastic, for those who guessed that. It's about coping with mental illness and forgiving yourself for things you did or said or just thought. "It's alright, it's okay, you're not a monster, just a human, and you've made a few mistakes".
It also talks about the fear of finding out who you are "behind your meds", feeling lonely and lost, etc.
It's just a song that's... heavier than it's cover (title? Vibe?)? If that makes sense.
And I encourage anyone with mental health problems, of any kind really, to give it a listen. It's healing, trust me.
I'll definitely go give it a listen
Omg i love mother mother, its alright is kinda my comfort song tho

Other than "Pumped Up Kicks" who is about school shootings, there are also two more songs with a happy sounding music but with depressing and dark lyrics that I honestly love so much. The first being "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men, who has a really energic and cheerful music, but it talks about depression, loneliness and madness manifesting in a person who lost their loved one and is slowly dying and allucinating, communicating with their lost loved one. Some of the most heartbreaking verses are, for example: "You're gone gone gone away, I watched you disappear. All that's left is a ghost of you" or "Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear". The main strength of this song is also the fact that there are two singers: the girl doing the woman slowly losing her mind and the guy being the dead husband trying to communicate with his wife.
The other one is "Enola Gay" by OMD, which is one of the most iconic 80's song. Classic elettric and energic melody, that sets your mind immediately to the 80's musical background, together with songs such as "Take on Me" or "Walk of Life" or similar. This song is actually about the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, more specifically about the pilot, whose mother was called Enola, and if I'm not mistaken, the bomb or the plane was named after her. It's says it really clearly in some of the verses such as "This kiss you gave is never ever gonna fade away" and "It's 8.15, and it's the time that it's always been. We got your message on the radio, collision's normal and you're coming home" referring to the release of the bomb and the explosion and "Enola Gay, is mother proud of little boy today?", which makes obvious the reference and the real story behind the lyrics.
yknow, little talks has been one of my favorite songs for years, but i never actually looked deeper into the lyrics like that until today. the song has a whole new perspective for me now. thank u for sharing
@@darkyagami6038 you're welcome dear, it's been of my favourite songs for years and I found that out recently and I was kinda shocked about the contrast between the melody and the meaning of the lyrics. And now it's even more beautiful to listen to

It wasn't specified at just jocks, regardless of how you tried to argue it. nor was it just jocks that bullied the shooters of columbine.
I'd beg to differ, the first line is "Robert's Got A Quick Hand,"..neither of the kids from columbine were named Robert. But, there was a shooting at a mall in Omaha around the mid 2000s by a kid named Robert Hawkins. That'd probably more fit the bill.

I'm shocked that nobody even heard about "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. It has a catchy beat, but the lyrics are pretty dark and disturbing. It's about poverty, and the lyrics are stating insane fantasies like hijacking a plane, the pre-chorus "Don't push me, I'm close to the edge, I'm trying not to lose my head" sounds like someone warning others not to put more misery to their life, because one day they'll just absolutely SNAP.
But it sounds ominous, a little sinister, so it doesn't belong on this list...Great song though!

Which is how they also wound up with the nickname "fun dot" from some fans. And speaking of their lead singer, Nate Ruess, many of his songs are like this. They hearken back to the fact that he's from Glendale, AZ and left his duo, The Format, to move to NYC. This method of songwriting has been incredibly popular out in that desert sun for decades now. If you don't believe me, the Gin Blossoms' songs Hey Jealousy and Found Out About You are a good place to start.

Tippo i didnt know(maybe i heard it but dont know name)that was a tad rude =/
Update this now, stat, add in "King of the clouds" by Panic! At the disco,it has a upbeat tune that seems happy but in reality, the song is about Brendon's experience with weed or something like that
Why add pumped up kicks to the list when it's more disturbing than depressing
no
its upbeat
You're aware school shooters are as much of victims as the people that get shot, right? The system causes them depression and the need for revenge, righting a song about it is the ultimate way to stop it cuz it's healthier.. it's like "Teenagers" by MCR, where they have a message at the end of the music video for teenagers that feel like they want to do sth like that.
@@peacefulleo9477 I have to respectfully disagree with the first sentence of your comment. School shooters, though it's definitely horrible they are lead to those things, are not as much of victims as people who are getting murdered in a place that is supposed to be safe. I've been bullied before in school, so I know how it feels to not feel safe socially in school. But to fear for your life?
Also, sadly, a lot of school shooters will shoot indiscriminately and aim to kill as many people as possible, even if that person never hurt them or was bullied themselves.
@@ev6564 I don't tolerate school shootings, what am saying is these kids needed help they suffered from mental illness, social rejection, also usually physical and sexual assault, and nobody helped them, nobody listened for their calls for help.. they got broken their minds stopped functioning right (that's what depression and other mental illnesses do to people) until they blew up, and scream all this with violence usually end up hurting themselves too. They are victims.

Velvet Revolver did a pretty bad ass cover of this song for anyone who'd dig hearing Weiland and Slash take a "stab" at it

“Oliver’s Army” by Elvis Costello - Its got an awesome, catchy piano part (stolen from “Dancing Queen” by ABBA for reference) and the lyrics are about how terrible the British foreign policy is (specifically children with machine guns in Belfast, Northern Ireland)
Yo, where’s I Can’t Decide? That’s song is super upbeat for a song about murder.
Top 10 depressing theme songs
Puts
Watchmojo theme
BNL I know it’s such a sad song 😔

How on earth "Every Breath You take" was not tops here is amazing! Think I will stop looking at your stuff! You are so out of control!
That doesn't sound like a happy song though
Everytime I walk into a store, Pumped Up Kicks is ALWAYS playing
Feel Good Inc. would've been perfect. It has a groovy beat but has very dark lyrics
word
windmill intensifies
oh my god
ikr. when i first heard it i thought it was a happy song and then I looked up the meaning and it said that it was about escapism and isolation and i was so confused😂
that song sound kinda disturbing if you're not a fan of Gorillaz
"All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" by the Mavericks
It is one of the most upbeat yet sad song you'll hear.
" I Wish" by Stevie Wonder sort of fits. It definitely has an up beat melody. Most of the lyrics are about what could be previewed as negative but then he sings about wishing those days would return, as if they're fond memories, which kind of voids the sad stuff..so?
"Ring Around The Rosy" is the single most depressing "happy" song ever written. It's actually about people dying during the Black Plague.
That's actually a myth invented a while after the plague
Hey, look up Oh My Darling Clementine, it's depressing
piggy wiggy bacon That's a surprise? I had to sing that song in 2nd grade and knew it was sad. It's about a guy losing his daughter after she drowned.
tiffsaver I know.
Yep
"Holiday in Cambodia" by Dead Kennedys
"Bullet" by Hollywood Undead
"I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by Scissor Sisters
"Sloom" by Of Monsters and Men
"Innocent" by Our Lady Peace
Tons of songs by Reel Big Fish
How is Sloom depressing? D:
Raúl DJVP
It's about a divorce, told in reverse order.
Holiday by DK's isn't reeally in this class imo. Top notch song but not exactly makes one think of happy times. I mean Jello does yell "Pol Pot" over & over...
Bullet would absolutly be my No. 1
"Papaoutai" or "Alors on dance" by Stromae or some by Vetusta Morla if we don't stuck to the English language.
Honorable mention to "Good Company" of Queen (from the album "A Night At The Opera")
No one can get Pumped Up Kicks out of their head when they hear it .Its one of the most catchy songs of all time
The run and go by twenty one pilots, semi-automatic by twenty one pilots, a lot of other twenty one pilots songs
