She said that she inspected him from head to toe to make sure that it was really Emmitt. When she looked in his mouth all of his teeth were gone. Rayner & Sons funeral home in Chicago, against the initial wishes of Emmett's mother, did make up his face to make him "more presentable" to the public. The funeral home director just couldn't fathom showing Emmett as he was found. Though Emmett's mother wanted him left untouched so "the world could see what they did!" Later, she obviously relented and let them work on Emmett's appearance. This child had just turned 14, a month prior to being killed. The pictures of him at his funeral service are hard enough to stomach...can you imagine how he looked before they made him, "more presentable?" This is not ancient history. Emmett would be 80 years old today, if he had lived...certainly if he wasn't murdered!!!
