This was an experience, I’m a huge fan of Dinah Washington’s music. However, I never knew Emmett Till was buried in the same cemetery. This was something I’ll never forget
You and Emmett look like you could be brothers..RIP Emmett..rest easy with the lord

Dinah's mother, is buried directly to her left. I've put flowers on their graves many times. I loved me some Dinah. I have a family member, buried close to Emmitt.

I wonder how close Mose Wright grave is from Emmitt's grave ? The uncle( Mose Wright) that Emmitt was take from in Mississippi is also buried there.

You should’ve researched on find a grave there are other celebrities at the Burr oak cemetery and the managers of Burr-oak cemetery are in prison for re selling plots I saw this with my own eyes.
I didn’t see this Statue in 2003.the photo is different also. They exhumed him also 😖
The mgr drove us from Dinah’s to his Dinah is by the office. Emitt’s Mother is in a crypt in the front. My mother saw Dinah as a girl in concert she was her favorite singer Mom died the same day she did.

It makes me cry to hear that even today you say you are scared of something like this. I am a old white man. I grew up in the early 60's and I still to this very day remember those days. It hurt me back then even as a small child hearing and seeing stuff like this that went on in the south. I grew up in Arkansas and I seen these kind of problem go on much longer than anyone else in other states did. I hear the name calling, I seen the segregation and even as a small child I knew in my soul this wasn't right. It is a shame that a man as young as you are still has to worry more less still has to fear anything even close to being scared of something like that. It scares me to even thing that nothing has changed? If you still have to fear of traveling in the US for something like this, has it really changed that much? If you still have this fear of being harmed because of the color of your skin then it is time to start again seeking that change. A young man such as yourself should not have to know what that kind of fear still is.

We need to re-examine the use of “because of the color of your skin” term. First it’s not the color of one’s skin that specific hater response to but what the victim represents to the perpetrator. People from India have dark and brown skin, so do people from Bagladash, Yemen and other countries. The people who are the subject of terrorism are African American descendants of the enslaved people brought to this country, PERIOD!!!

Such a fitting song “This Bitter Earth” to hear while visiting Emmett Till’s grave. I was just a child when my mom ran literally from Mississippi. They were killing us children back then… and our parents were scared. Be grateful young man.. always be grateful you live in a better time.. then back then. 🙏🏾

I have been so preoccupied with this story since I saw the version on television. I was shaking so bad while watching it. I never knew who Emmett and his Mom were until then. That boy had such a beautiful face and his poor mother. OMG I cant believe this went on. How could that lady that lied live with herself all those years especially when her own cousin admitted nothing happened.

Did you know this cemetery was found to have unceremoniously dug up thousands of people with a back hoe and dumped their remains in big piles... because they wanted to resell the plots. This was in July 2009 they were caught.
Yes i just saw a small clip of that. Do you by chance know where they put his coffin that was found in a storage snd where his remains went?????

It s just a figment of our imagination. Danger is real. And you're WISE to understand that what to Emmett means it can happen to anybody. @@ericahensley0 Fortunately, Emmett's grave was not one of the 200-300 graves which were disturbed. Emmett's body was exhumed in 2005 by the FBI in order to confirm the identity and cause of death.
By law, Emmett had to be reburied in a new casket. And his old casket was stored in a shed, and eventually given to the Smithsonian.
