I had to laugh at the Velcro straps. "Taking them from looking like this to something a lot more like this" - cue shot of ungodly spaghetti mess to another ungodly spaghetti mess but with a random crooked Velcro strap 😂 quality entertainment right there
There are Velcro strips you can buy at Home Depot. One version is continuous and can be used as a wrap, cut where ever it needs cutting. The other version is more like shorter ties that can be strung together to form a tether. In the case of tying cabling to spots that are kind of "out there", the piece approach may be better, allowing you to tailor what and how you tie. In the case of simply looking to clean up a messy looking longitudinal area, a wrap might look better. These Velcro straps can be had in different colours, albeit not a huge selection.
Can’t believe no tactile transducers(buttkickers) were mentioned. The 4 corner custom setup I made using simhub and $200 usd worth of parts increased immersion and consistency by just as much as ffb and load cell pedals. It was like adding a whole other dimension to my setup.
I was simracing for like 5 or 6 years before I finally bought an H-pattern shifter, and I regret going that long without one. Fun and immersion went through the roof. That and loadcell pedals were a BIG upgrade. The H-Pattern totally transformed RaceRoom for me, drifting in the Audi 92 DTM car became so enjoyable once I had a reason to use the clutch.
I've been meaning to get a shifter for so long! Now I've finally got the basics crammed into my tiny gaming space, and I'm happy with them, I think it's time to buy one, I avoid driving H pattern with paddles, just doesn't feel right. A good load cell brake pedal is a game changer, doesn't need to cost a fortune either (CSL Elite V2's would be a good place to start)
I would add to that a bass shaker. It doesn't have to be big or expensive. For 100$ you can get something decent including a small amp. On top of adding a lot to immersion, it can even help with car control by simulating wheel slip. But mostly it adds a ton to the immersion. To feel the engin vibrating, the rumble strips in the corners and the thump of a gear change is indescribable. Now, whenever I use a rig with no shakers, it is like going back to a wheel with no FFB.
Small DIY tip for the keyboard holder: if you have a sim rig your office chair is probably just standing around. Put it next to your rig and you essentially have a free keyboard tray.
agree with most. my recommendation is swap the mouse with a ball mouse if youre tight on space. they can be a little difficult to get used to but not having to actually move it is great on a sim
The logitech k400 plus is a good option for a mouse and keyboard for sim racing. The keyboard has a trackpad built in so all you have to worry about is the keyboard.
I bought a keyboard and mice tray. It wasn't practical, always akwardly placed. I "upgraded" to the 10$ ikea TV unit table. So much more convenient. And with the money saved I bought a "bartop" carpet thingy with a cool car illustration (a mustang) for like 20$. It's still is much cheaper than any off the shelf keyboard tray and works much better. I also use it to hold my wheel, a gamepad for casual gaming (not sim related) and a bunch of other stuff, so cheaper and more Is a massive win in my book
For me, it would be the streamdecks i use: having a buttonbox that can do more than what you've assigned it to do.... from adjusting car settings, to launching programs... it does it all!
A trackball is a great option instead of a mouse, when dealing with limited space. I use one on my rig and its great. Downside is it will be more expensive than a cheap mouse.
I suggest to add to that list some venting/fan solutions to fight sweating issues (and optionally some cooling seat cover for back). Also specific to you - fix with second bolt your mouse pad .. simply by adding corner bracket on side of the shifter profile.
Seriously! I get so hot every time I'm in a race. A/C is always on blast which is not the most efficient & cost worthy solution, especially in the long run
Hey OC, thanks for recommending reasonable/reasonably affordable gear here. It's easy for creators to say, "yeah you need a $5k DD base, wheel and pedal setup, a 6dof full motion rig, a sound system designed for a cinema" and so on. One thing I recommend, while not the perfect replacement for a keyboard and mouse combo, is the Logitech K400. If you're willing to do with a keyboard that doesn't have the 10-key pad, it substitutes a trackpad on a compact wireless device. Because I have limited space and use a VR setup, it's a great solution to save me from m feeling around for the mouse! I use a magic, space aged material called 'velcro' to stick it to the top of my wheel base!
I just saw this video and when I got to the keyboard and mouse tray, I got up, went outside and grabbed some wood. I spent the next 30 minutes making a simple keyboard and mouse tray for free. Tested it and it works as intended so I'm happy I dont have to reach over my wheel to type on the keyboard on my desk.
I'm using our old home theater around my cockpit for sound it's a game changer, you can hear your tires better and it feels more natural. And the subwoofer emulates exhaust sound really good. I recommend searching online for a 2nd hand one if you're able to use optical cable on your set up for uncompressed surround sound. (Samsung HT-Z325)
For audio, I’ve found a nice pair of IEMs lends to a great sense of immersion and they can often be had for far less than their over ear headphone counter parts
After going with VR I can't go back. I'd say the main complaint for most people is comfort and FOV, the latter being something that can't be helped for now. It is only uncomfortable if you don't have a headset that has no proper solution for keeping it on your head, like the stock Quest 2 headstrap. I got a 3rd party strap from Studioform Creative for my HP Reverb G2 that goes on top of the stock headstrap and makes it essentially act like a halo strap. You won't believe how much that helps reduce sweating.
@rubbishnubbish motion sickness goes away after a few days. You will gain what is called your "VR LEGS" I've been using VR since 2016 for flight simulation and air combat, and only recently started with iRacing. Could never go back to screens. Took me 2 or 3 days to gain my vr legs again with racing because it's a little different than flying. But each time you start to feel weird just take a break. A few days later I was doing 1 hour races no problem.
100% agree on the keyboard and mouse trays. Both make a great difference in comfort and usability. I use a trackball instead of a normal mouse and a keyboard with integrated mousepad.
my favorite purchase outside of the rig itself has been dedicated sim racing shoes. i went with puma speedcats and got elastic no-tie laces so they slip on and off. but water shoes, or any other low profile and flexible shoes will do the trick. OR dedicated sim socks with proper grippy bottoms.
7:00 Be careful with headphones. even at seeming low volumes you can cause ear damage. aim for at least 35% lower volume then normal gaming. the duration and constant roar of the engine cause cause hearing damage. this is no joke. play as low volume as possible. or else you will end up with permanent turbo whine. it is not fun.
Amazing! I have none of the items for my rig as mentioned. I have a TV on top of a small desk, so no movement from steering wheel, cables hang off the power extension freely, the sound is just some very old PC speakers, no keyboard/mouse needed, when I do, its on the floor/on top of PC. Important things to me was the Gamepod racing rig (defunct company now), Fanatect GT DD Pro steering wheel with Clubsport inverted pedal set.

Thanks for giving people amazing content and stepping out of the way to review things normal sim racers wouldn't review which is giving people ideas on what to buy and what not to buy i hope to see another episode of this soon maybe 10 things you regret not buying sooner. thanks OC Racing.

I spend a lot of time sim racing and I think the best thing I ever bought was a mini split air conditioner in my sim room. Lol it used to get so hot in there.
I don't have a god tier sim rig- i have a foldable NLR cockpit with a DIY single monitor stand, which also holds my keyboard and acts as a shelf for my phone, drink, etc. Can confirm- every little bit of QOL upgrade helps me get into the sim more. If you're starting out and find that you dread attaching the wheel to your desk, getting into position, etc .. and find yourself driving less because of it- invest in your rig. The easier you make getting on the road, the more you'll do it... And this usually leads to a happier life.
So my old setup was a G29 that i just left mounted to my desk 24/7 I gave up attaching it and taking it off every day so i decided to just leave it on Now i run a CSL DD mounted to the NLR wheel stand 2.0 and the only thing i hate about it Is moving the stand in front of my desk to start racing The thing is just so damn heavy and its made me start racing less often than on my old setup just cause of that But when i do put in the work to move it its so worth it in the end Ive heard of some people putting casters on it but im not entirely sure about that
So with the T3PM pedals that come with the T248, I built my own custom pedal box to mount them to. It's hollow on three sides, so the sub for my sound system for my PC is tilted on it's side so it projects the sound in the pedal box instead of the concrete floor and carpet of my 7th story apartment lol Gives really nice feel to the pedals with the engine noise :D
One random (and very cheap) upgrade i decided to go for is DIY pedal haptics. Not sure how important or useful it will be, but we'll see in a few days when all the parts arrive.
I think I'd avoid buying giant monitors and just go full VR. I'm pretty happy with my setup as it is without a cockpit, a decent desk with a slide out keyboard/mouse tray is an ok place to attach a wheel and shifter. I'm surprised this channel doesn't have any ATS content, I've seen some crazy setups with full fledged semi truck dashboards!
I bought a cheap but decent VR headset a week ago for my setup (Samsung Odyssey plus). Really recommend getting a cheap 2nd hand VR headset to anyone who can't afford three monitors. It's really good.
I would stick to wired keyboard with leds, but just simple ones. It is very useful when you can see what you type without any additional light when simracing at night.

6:40 is so true i found good monitors and stuff and my dad said what about the sound so i got screen with nice speakers and some headphones and it is so nice to play
I would like to buy fanatec direct drive wheel but living in uk would be difficult if wheel doesnt work and need to send it back because hard to buy fanatec equipment in uk
the Headset Solution imo is an audio interface or hardware DAC and a pair of Studio Headphones like the Superlux HD681 i'm using or Beyerdynamix DT770 or something along the lines. the quality of sound you get from taht system is unmachted by traditional headsets
You have no credibility with that statement. Did it ever occur to you that many people who are into sim racing living in apartments or in other setups where others don't want to hear racing sounds?
imo buy a samsung g9 and if you want an even more immersive experience get vr too. Not every game has vr, but just using the 1 monitor will save you a lot of pain.
That keyboard stand/attachment is a must have if you do this on PC, I do both PC and console so that attachment doubles as a snack stand when on my PS5 🤣 I'm an OCD kinda guy so I have tons of cable ties on hand as well as some under desk wire routers, both work wonders on keeping things neat. Inland for the win on the keyboard too 😊 Great list Oscar, all of it is so important to allow for a less distracting Sim experience. Now go and slay those exams!!
There’s a lot of good content from other more experienced iRacing UA-camrs that give a lot of good advice. I would recommend you check those out as they’re probably more qualified on the subject than me lol. Thanks for the support!
Anybody got a better recommendation for a solid wireless headset that doesn't break the bank? I got the HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless, and aside from the long battery life, they often have a very slight delay in the sound which can become really distracting mid-race. Thanks in advance!
I use the corsair HS80 and i love it Never noticed any latency and the battery life has always been enough to last a day as long as i plug it in overnight Remember to turn off the RGB in the settings though Imo its pretty pointless on a headset and it improves battery life a ton Actually just realized thats what he used in the video too anyway great headset i recommend it if you still need a headset
The starting of the video is so true I just got into sim racing but it was soooooo confusing what the fuck I need to buy to play this shit and the just when I thought I had all I needed I needed a new item
My advice is that they’re both great and you’ll be happy w your choice either way. Choose what ever fits in your budget and can get to you the fastest 👍

Haptic feedback headphones like the skull candy skull crushers. That's what I got Yeah, it's a game changer.
What maps did you use at 4:05 and 4:18
3:45 H shifters are under rated. i wish sim put more effort into clutch feel.
literally no one:
the spider under my bed: 1:47
OSCAR POSTED
The consistency is unreal 🤌🤌
Finally the king posted! And responded
Oscar posted!
I still can't deal with those bezel things. They just blur/smudge it for me, still VERY noticeable and It breaks immersion for me more than the bezel
The best thing one can do is either move to monitors with small bezels (more expensive) or just go VR where it's VERY immersive.
Solid video. I’ve been thinking about my sound system as well, for under $1000. Drown me in sound😂
I would like to buy fanatec direct drive wheel but living in uk would be difficult if wheel doesnt work and need to send it back because hard to buy fanatec equipment in uk
I have order a 13inch sim wheel for my thrustmaster t300 gt. Hopefully this will make my driving experience better.
Meanwhile Literally my setup:
Table
Chair
keyboard (Buttons)
Mouse
No steering
PC
768P moniter
Thanks, great video. What is the steering wheel shown in the thumbnail?
6:35 i would recomend a sound card for the best audio
Built in sound cards on motherboards are *way* better than they used to be.
the Headset Solution imo is an audio interface or hardware DAC and a pair of Studio Headphones like the Superlux HD681 i'm using or Beyerdynamix DT770 or something along the lines. the quality of sound you get from taht system is unmachted by traditional headsets
Hi OC Racing, great video! helped a lot on what to choose, just wondering what game did you play when explaining the H-Pattern Shifter
Assetto Corsa!
My keyboard and mouse tray is a free coffee table from the side of the road lol
Logitech K400 plus - no keyboard tray needed, no mouse needed - job done.
Good recommendation! Though I personally prefer having a separate mouse
What do you think of a handbrake? Do you think that is necessry?
Depends on your driving. What would you be doing?
Do you still use the T818? If so, how're you liking it?
Really can't take someone seriously who recommends a 'headset' for audio.
You have no credibility with that statement. Did it ever occur to you that many people who are into sim racing living in apartments or in other setups where others don't want to hear racing sounds?
I expected having a steering wheel to be the first thing on the list! I still don't have one of those.
starting at 3:38, is that a map mod for assetto corsa?
What is the mountain track on this video?
imo buy a samsung g9 and if you want an even more immersive experience get vr too.
The snack stand is an absolute essential 😂😂
Thanks man, now I’m off to go study 🫡
I could never go back to mount monitors to the rig
Not related to this video, but have you got any good tips for iRacing beginners? (I just got it, using your referal link ;)
Great video!
There’s a lot of good content from other more experienced iRacing UA-camrs that give a lot of good advice. I would recommend you check those out as they’re probably more qualified on the subject than me lol. Thanks for the support!
what game was it that was in most of the non racing track clips
Great Video mate ❤
Thanks mate 🫡
what chassis are you using here
I wish I bought a good chair first lol good vid oc!
Wooden chairs >>
What game is @ 4:14 that you are playing. Looks awesome.
What headphones do you use? :)
I love Logitech MK240 smallest keyboars + mouse ❤😊
How much sim racing gear do you have:
Yes.
Yes.
Anybody got a better recommendation for a solid wireless headset that doesn't break the bank? I got the HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless, and aside from the long battery life, they often have a very slight delay in the sound which can become really distracting mid-race. Thanks in advance!
I use the corsair HS80 and i love it
Never noticed any latency and the battery life has always been enough to last a day as long as i plug it in overnight
Remember to turn off the RGB in the settings though
Imo its pretty pointless on a headset and it improves battery life a ton
Actually just realized thats what he used in the video too
anyway great headset i recommend it if you still need a headset
What games are you showing in the video?
I am watching this video as if I am not still considering wether I should get a TH8A or not.
Hope to get a chassis soon! At least working on the hardware
Good luck!
Just starting racing with F1 23, but what game is shown at the start?
Assetto Corsa on PC
Hello what game are you on this video? Project cars 1?
The starting of the video is so true I just got into sim racing but it was soooooo confusing what the fuck I need to buy to play this shit and the just when I thought I had all I needed I needed a new item
Diy button box for 60$ with all the tools n extra buttons for a 2nd box.
MARK, GLOVES AND STEERING WHEEL! NOW
Definitely some good suggestions. I would also include castor wheels on this
Yes! Very true 👍
Absolutely. As someone using a wheelstand with an office chair, buying some locking caster wheels might be the biggest game changer yet lol.
I will never race without my Buttkicker!
I need help, CSL DD5 + Mclaren Wheel or Moza 5 + GS V2 GT Wheel. If someone will be that kind to answer, thank you so much
My advice is that they’re both great and you’ll be happy w your choice either way. Choose what ever fits in your budget and can get to you the fastest 👍
(Feel free to use my affiliate links when purchasing, would help the channel)
What is the question?
Moza. Hearing to many things about fanatec related to flaws it has and horrible customer support
Men thanks for the many ideas for have have given your viewers. I love the game you were using while demonstrating. What game is that? L.
Thanks
That would be Project Cars 2!
I was expecting a handbrake into this list!
subscribed, liked, commented.. All the good things, good job
What an absolute legend. I have no doubt you’re a 007 agent with balls of iron
