I just made a lettuce-hem tee with an old stretchy fabric I had since a long time ago, following your tutorial and I'm so damn happy!!!!!!
Thank you Annika💜\^_^/
does it need to be stretchy fabric???
@@sofiaaa5599 yes
I don't even sew. But I still watch every video.
maria39866 same 100%
maria39866 saaaaame, this series is too good/AMAZING she can recreate most of this stuff
maria39866 anything sewing related is addicting
maria39866 me too but she makes me want to learn
lol me
Golly gee! I had several lettuce hem shirts as a child back in the late 90's-early 00's and haven't seem them in more than a decade.
Who knew they would be back in style and not for toddlers?
Mer Feraine exactly my thoughts. 😂
I thought the same! It's so fun to see all the things that were around when I was a kid gradually reappear
I can't believe they're in style, personally I don't care for the lettuce hem look at all, but I ain't gonna tell other people what to wear so you do you!
Mer Feraine We should have kept our old stuff and sold it as "vintage" lol
I still have my baby socks with this design oh dear
*lettuce begin
lol
Isabella Rose Krist soup 💖💖💖
Isabella Rose literally just watched a kirst soup video.
Isabella Rose GIRL
can you make a clear bomber jacket???
Or a satin/silky bomber jacket?
Or just any bomber jacket
yesss bomber jacket! I've seen some tutorials to do them, but I never understand them, I bet Annika would do a great job!
yaaaasss
Adell Oxeye The fabric is called pearlized organza. So pretty..
Just a tip : when you want to move or take out pieces of any system such as your sewing machine, take a picture of it before changing anything ! That way you can always refer to the photo to put everything back in place afterwards. :)
MarineHeartPink THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!
Have you figured out where that piece goes? Thanks for the video!
Anne Araullo nooooope hahaha
is it still working?
Great idea💖
would these techniques work on socks? i imagine it would be pretty similar to a sleeve, and i think it would be fun to have a lettuce hem on some crew socks !
breanna :P lettuce hem socks sounds really cool! it would probably work.
They might end up falling down a lot because you've removed the elasticated top to keep the socks up properly. If you put a fine elastic at the top underneath the lettuce hem it could work though.
That's a great idea! I also have a sewing channel if you want to look at it
k this is a super good idea thank you
breanna :P love this idea
This brought back memories of my favorite shirt in second grade, which was a light purple turtleneck with lettuce hem at the neck and sleeves. I would wear it tucked into my jeans with a clear plastic belt with flowers on it. I was stylin'. I just saw in the comments that everyone had lettuce hemmed shirts in the 90's which is when I was in second grade, so I guess I was trendy for once in my life!
Is there a bacon and tomato hem?
If not we need to make it a thing ;) Have a full BLT range of hemlines!
Annika Victoria haha true!
see ya later space egg AHAHAHAA
Hear me out..... full on BLT hem
😡 now I’m hungry
I remember having one of these shirts in like 2009 and since me and my sis are 20 months apart we had matching ones... mine was purple with stripes and hers was green 😂
mine was red with stripes and i still have it lol
Lettuce hems are back in?! Time to pull out all those old shirts from elementary school!
Bunny Senpai right?? I'm so loving this early 2000s revival haha
I started sewing when I was a little girl but quit last year. Your videos inspired me and now I love sewing again! I can't thank you enough 😘
My god, it's like I'm blown back into my childhood! I'm not kidding, I think half my wardrobe had hems like this!
Thank you for teaching this :) I upcycled an old t-shirt using this hem, and will do more. One thing I noticed, that if you want to use contrasting thread with zig zag stitch or just in general zig zag instead of overlock, then stretching the material but not rushing it, instead feeding it slowly through makes the zig zag stitches look more full/dense. Might be useful for someone :)
I have been binging these for about a week and omg I love your videos so much! I'm going to start sewing thanks to you!!!!!
omg lettuce hem shirts were my childhood
Are we back in the 90's? LoL I remember wearing these types of blouses as a child. Great Job!
unfortunately I'd do this without wanting to but couldn't do it when I wanted to.
#sewinglife
sara bradley same
Oh fudge, I was so excited to try this since I love this look and there aren't any shirts like this around where I live but I sew with a singer from the 1930s and it doesn't have zig zag options 😅😂😂😂
ME TOO! Mines from the 50s though, but same problem!
Ahh too cool! Lettuce hems were popular during the late 70s. Definitely had them on my shirts, dresses, and skirts. Excellent job!! 👍👍
Yay!! A make thrift buy on the day I have a frigging holster ecg for 24 hours. The medical tape they use to keep in place irritates my skin, so this is great
Sachi the Cat ヽ(*≧ω≦)ノ oh man holters suck - I had a 48 hr one last year and the tape/suction cups left bruises! Good luck!!
This is something I'd really like to make, adds a cute little flair to a simple tshirt.
I remember having this stripy shirt with buttons that opened the neck hole a bit, and a lettuce hem and it was the coolest shirt ever
sharshey was it orange and yellow bc thats exactly how mine was and i had flashbacks reading this comment
You should totally make one of those leg purses, where the bottom wraps around your thigh and the strap can go either over your shoulder or around your waist
Ok, now I just wanna see someone do this but make the t-shirt lettuce themed so it is a literal lettuce top
Annika i love how much time and effort you put into researching proper methods on how to do things and the thorough yet easy to understand instructions you provide. while i'll personally never do any of the things you do in your videos, i can really appreciate your attention to detail.
Omg I just used this and I cannot TELL YOU how much it helped me I’m absolutely IN LOVE with how it turned out !!!!! Thank you !! ❤️
I did it on a pajama set I'm sewing (with a few adjustments, for example I didn't fold the edge) and it looks super cute!!! I'm so happy that you included the sewing machine method since I don't own a serger and my sewing machine is just a singer tradition without have any fancy stitches. It's such an easy and cute way to finish a garment 😊 Thank you so much!!!
Annika I have such bad depression RA and FM so bad I have a chair too and most days am so sad or tired to get out of bed and care for myself, how can you run a whole UA-cam channel? You are a FM goddess!!!!!!!! How can you do it....????? In awe..... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘
I've always wanted to sew lettuce hems to my shirts but thought I needed a serger to do it.... I've just tried your sewing machine method and it really works!! I'm so happy. Now I'm rubbing my hands in glee as I think about all the old t-shirts I can bring back to life with this technique. Thanks so much, Annika!!
Reminds me of all the cute tops I wore when I was 6. Super cute, but $60? Still blows me away when I see the original costs of the items you recreate on your channel!
Your tutorials are always so helpfully detailed and easy to understand.
dont have a serger OR a sewing machine but i'd watch this videos everyday
I love how it turned out! You looked amazing
I am going to try making a circle skirt! So excited!
So I've sewn a hem like that on accident. Who knew it could look so cute on purpose lol. Def doing it again
I never missed a video and I watch them over and over again because they are really good 😊
I love your channel SOO much your channel helps me and my grandma connect love you Annika
There are 4 or 5 of your projects that I'd love to try and get around to alongside my uni stuff at the moment - it's impossible to find skirts or shorts that fit me just how I'd like so a lot of your vids have come in super handy! Looking to get going with some of them once I'm less frazzled with uni essays! Keep up the great work!
Hi Annika, thank you for this tutorial, I used this hem on a dress, I hemed the collar, sleeves and the whole bottom of the dress, it turned out so beautiful, I used a regular brother machine and it was perfect, thank you so much for this tutorial. 😘❤️🌹
That's the sweetest t-shirt i ever saw, and you look soooo sweet aswell, Annika!
I love your channel, and I make some of your diy, and, i made it!! I'm so happy for that!! thank you for everything!! Don't stop your art. xx 💫💕🙌🏻
This takes me back to the 90's. I feel like all of my shirts had a lettuce hem. This tuned out great!
Love your videos they're so fun to watch. I never sew but keep making them they're awesome!!!❤️😂
I totally remember lettuce hems on my sleeves when I was little girl! I can't wait to try this!
When I was around my first years of primary school (2001-2004) it was really fancy amongst the class :)
i just made THE cutest top using this video and the alien shirt video, pretty happy with it made from scrap fabric from scratch- thanks x
It's funny, that's what my knit hemlines came out as when I was just learning how to sew, and I thought it was terrible, but now I guess it's in trend and I shouldn't feel too bad? lol, still love the video!
I loved lettuce hemmed tops when I was little. I remember they were quite popular in the late 90s and early 00s~
I got inspired to pick up sewing from watching your videos. I just started but so far I love it! so thank you lol
Yay to new vid and nay to hem I can't get a decent flat hem without useing stitch and tear or solvy for delicate (stabiliser for embroidery)
I love you Annika! You are such an inspiration
This top looks so cute ! If only I had your confidence to pull that off.
I always get excited when I see Annika posted
I did it! It turned out great, thanks for the tutorial!
This is so helpful! thank you for making this MTB!! I needed a good tutorial for this because I'm making a skirt for a costume and i really wanted this type of hem line for it!
T3TR1S Kandi yay!!
This looks so cool! I think it would look awesome on long sleeve shirts and on shorts. Amazing work, Annika ❤️
Ahhh I've been waiting for this!!!! I asked for this ages ago and I AM SOOO EXCITED TO SEE IT MADE! Xxx
Thank you so much for this, I had know idea where to find it and if making it is this easy I'll give it a go!
OMG! Brings me back to high school! I love it!
This top is sooo cute! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my goodness, I was literally just looking at that top on Brandy Melville wondering how to create that hem. Thank you so much!!
Fabulous video! You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you so much!
It turned out sooo pretty
I LOVE IT!!! this is goin to be my first ever sewing machine project!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your lipstick! it's such a pretty colour.
Very good instructions, especially how to fix it =) Thank you, I"m trying this out. Great video, clear instructions and pictures.
I had a white, ribbed jersey turtleneck sweater with a lettuce hem on the bottom and sleeves back in the early 2000's.
Worked perfectly on my first try!! Thanks so much!!
that t-shirt looks so good on you!! 💖
i dont sew at all but i watch every one of these because annika is just too adorable! and her ideas are always a+
yessssss I live to watch these. I swear im gonna learn to sew one day haha
Hey, could you recreate the Jeffrey Campbell "The Jagger" shoes?
Here is a link: www.karmaloop.com/product/The-Jagger-Shoe-in-Black-Leather-and-Baby-Dolls/389676
Emmy it's so expensive omg
marylikescats yes but i want to make them by myself but idk how
Emmy yeeeees please do this !
Oh interesting! I was noticing this kind of hem on a lot of my nightgowns/sleep shirts and had been wondering how to recreate it. I was leaning towards using a Scallop Stitch and a Rolled Hem Foot, but haven't tried that since I've been very sick.
Yesssssssssss. I was JUST thinking how much I wanted you to upload a new video
Yes!!!! I've wanted to know how to do this for so long! I hope it works on tulle as well, my 8 year old me is so happy right now :D
You do great videos! I'm so jealous because you're so patient
this is super cute I could totally see it be a thing again. thank you for the video! educational and fun like always :)
I know nothing about sewing (like it's bad, I don't think I can even sew a button on) but I just love watching your videos... even if it sounds like a different language to me the whole time xD It's just awesome to see how you can make all this stuff! You're so talented and it's just really fun to watch what you can create. Keep doing what you do!
you should make watermelon shorts!! if you look them up they are just normal shorts but i think you dip dye them? and make a green and pink ombre!
good thing im in sewing class now so I can soon ACTUALLY make some things from your videos ♡
I never noticed that one of your stickers was a Veronica Mars quote and I got so excited!
I love these style of shirts! It's funny how fashion never really changes😂
Nicely done!
I love this concept😮 I think it would also look cute without cutting the neckline and just sewing over the sleeves and bottom
I’m trying this, like, right now! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Love u annika
Helped me so much thru my sewing journey
That is really cool. I’m going ‘feminise’ my husband’s unwanted T-shirt for myself today. I’ve already shaped in the sides as well because I want to keep the length. I’m going to use my Bernina sewing machine. Thank you💕💕
You always show me such interesting trends that I would never know existed!! Like you said it's sewing blasphemy to get a lettuce hem!!
You look so cute in that shirt! i did a lettuce hem a couple years ago and it was really annoying cause I was doing it on a circle omg
So cute. Great idea.
SO STINKING CUTE IT LOOKS SO ADORABLE ON YOU
You can do the same thing as the sewing machine technique and enclose fishing line under your zig-zag stitch to create dramatic ruffles! Not great for necklines but at the bottom of a skirt it can create something cool
I wanted to know how to make a raw edge on knit fabrics and of course I find part of the answer on this channel, time to go do my own experiments. :)
I remember once I was hemming a stretchy dress and I accidentally made a lettuce hem because I hadn't set up my machine correctly and/or I didn't know all the tecniques for sewing stretchy fabric, haha.
I cannot wait to make this
good job. That looks great!
Great job! It looks super cute on you! :D
i clicked on this, and then i had to pause because im wearing a 'lettuce' hem shirt, that i bought at a thrift shop , because i thought the hem is so cute.... GOSH this is so MAKE THRIFT BUY
This turned out so cute on you!
