    Super cute! I'm always impressed with the things you figure out by trial and error. I'm lucky if I can remember to sew things right sides together haha. I also wanted to say that I have literally taught myself how to sew thanks to your videos! I've altered my own clothes to fit my better and made my baby cousin a bunch of food from felt!

      My nephew loves these, too! Especially the ones where a piece of fruit is made from different parts and stuck together with velcro.
      They look a little ridiculous to an adult, but he just loves taking them apart with his ‚knife‘ before serving. So worth the extra work!

    At first, I was like “oooh this seems really easy, maybe I’ll try it later with one of my tops” and then it got way more complicated and I was like “yeah....nah”
    It’s really cute though. I just don’t think my skills are there yet.

      Sarah Nink It works best on a shirt like hers. They sell plain shirts like that from Joanns for like $3 or &4 or even cheaper if they've got a coupon on the app applicable to the shirt.

    Do you have to take the sleeves off or can you leave them on? x

    • @coolirpa
      @coolirpa  6 років тому +7

      I was wondering this when making the top too. I didn't try leaving the sleeves on but to me I felt I had to cut them off since we would be cutting up the side seams up the shirt through the armhole. Then again you could try to only cutting up until the waist and then cut horizontally across to the markings and see if the twist still works out ok. I feel like it might but since I was resizing the shirt to fit me anyways, it was better for me to remove the sleeves :D

    • @lestranged
      @lestranged 6 років тому

      If the shoulder seam hits you at the right place you could leave sleeve attached, but this was an oversize tee and the shoulder seam probably hit April halfway down her arm.

    What IF, you used 2 different colors of t shirts so the left and right sides were different colors, like black and white? Like when Michels has solid color tees on sale 2 for $5. I want to try this with black and white!

    I wish you could put templates online I’ve been watching your videos forever and we have pretty similar bodies. I’ve only sewn a couple of times and don’t now much about how to make shapes for different kind of styles or to make any piece of clothing in general. It’d be really cool to have something like that! I love all your work

    Hey April! I love your videos, but Im sad I cant recreate any of them. I love your style but I do not like showing skin in my own wardrobe. I was wondering if in the future you could incorperate more conservative styles into your videos (less crop tops and super dooper short skirts and shorts) but still keep the style. Aka: like the cute twist of this video’s top but how to make it longer so the shirt covers all mid-drift or something. Idk. Basically keep the cuteness but incorperate some things that would work for us girls who (for whatever their personal reason is) dont show a lot of skin in public. Thanks!! 💜💜

    • @lestranged
      @lestranged 6 років тому +7

      This top could easily be adapted with the midriff covered and long sleeves. It would actually be really cute with long sleeves.

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 6 років тому +9

      Rachel Hahn
      Maybe just wear a spaghetti strap shirt under it? That’s what I would do, since I simply don’t have the kind of figure where I would expose my midriff in public 😎
      Doing refashions from thrifted clothes that are less ‚summery‘ (shall we say) is always extra hard, especially if you’re not tiny. You need very large garments to begin with, for example, and the alterations are more complicated if you want to include sleeves and stuff.
      In my opinion you would be better off sewing from patterns. You could still use thrifted garments as a fabric supply and to save some time (by keeping details like the part that buttons on a shirt) but rely on the pattern for the design and fit.
      Also: I remember Sarah Tyau did similar refashions in a more conservative style, but she hasn’t posted in a while. Maybe look through her older videos for ideas 🙂

      you can leave the twisted front longer, cutting it short is not necessary. i've seen some tops with similar design at online shops, they cover the belly. there are even dresses with similar knots on the front.

      I agree that I would like to see these types of things as well. There is talent here but while most of the styles are cute, they are not very chic.

    I think I'd have a hard time replicating the diagonal waist seam, the way you did it felt unclear. It would have been helpful to see a start to finish version with the adjusted seam built in to the plan.

    With that much cutting und sewing you could as well sew a completely new shirt from a piece of fabric... would hardly make a differents in efford...

    • @tf7602
      @tf7602 5 років тому

      But this kind of try as you go approach doesn't really work well when you just have a piece of fabric, at least for me. With an existing piece it's much easier to adjust and experiment as you go. Also the twisting method could be just as well adapted to any t-shirt, without changing the neckline or the sleeves, so it can be done with less sowing too.

    New fan here, thanks for inspiration! I am trying this 2d time, following you. Did you trim at bottom centers? I think you pleated front before sewing the side seams?
    My 1st was a fail, reduced 44" bust, size 2xl, down so was too tight for my 34" bust!!!!!!!
    But hey, thrifted tee, it's awesome to learn and I'll start over tomorrow.

  • @karlschneider1088
    @karlschneider1088 2 роки тому

    Thanks for this tutoiral! I found this although it's now some years old and hope you might answer a question. What did you do to the bottom center front; was it pleated up, not trimmed? Looks as if the diagonal seaming was enough to create the shaping, but then you hemmed as a later step. Any thoughts on sizing up, how much? Because the trial I made reduced SO much that a shirt originally size 2XL would not fit my 36" bust. I messed up the trimming side seams for sure! Using thrifted tees amounts to an inexpensive sewing class! So, I shall try again.
    I love your clarity, the trendy-but-modest good taste, common sense info, the editing for most content in the least amount of time, and the music not being obtrusive. The great ideas and beautiful sewing are great content but the style makes it so accessible too. THANKS, blessings and best wishes to you!

    I would love more t-shirt transformations, but not cropped.

    But it’s not really your first time! You have done this technique before on the fabulously glittery 👗 you made to go to an formal party 😅

    It's a great transformation of a T-shirt,but I don't find any reason to cut the sleeves.Am I right?

    O resultado final é muito diferente dos cortes e execuções de costuras realizadas na peça. Falso!

    So prettty! Did you hem the raw edges by hand? I don't see the stitching on the hem.

    Why did you have to remove the sleeves? Wouldn't it be simpler to just let them on? :)

    It is very nice transformation. Does not look like it was a simple t-shirt :)

    I love this, but as a bigger lady, it’s not in my comfort zone or style. I was wondering if you would branch out to a different style or something. Idk. Great job as usual
