  • Ghavan is a very popular dish in Konkan region of Maharastra. They are soft, thin and mouth melting rice crepes made with very few ingredients.
    Ingredient list:
    Rice (I am using sona masoori, always use old rice, don''t use new rice ) - 2 cups
    oil
    salt to taste
    water

    Here are some extra tips which I missed in this video..
    1) Any variety rice can be used for this recipe but the rice should be little old. If new rice is used then ghavan will become very sticky.
    2) Soak rice for longer time so that you can grind it fine. If any tiny bits of rice is left they will not get cooked and you can feel the raw bit of rice while eating.
    3)When you take out the ghavan from pan take it out on an inverted seive or on a plate, let it cool down and then fold it. This way they will not stick .

    Mrudula, I tried making ghavan with ragi, it didn't bind properly nd crumbled, any other way 2 make.

      @@safiaamourvous half medium size coconut is enough for about 300 GM's of rice. While adding salt to the batter adding sugar 3-4 tsp gives nice taste to the dose.

      KotiChennayya , for Konkani style neer dosa which we call as ‘paan pole’... we add coconut. I use 1 cup coconut to 2 cups of soaked rice while grinding and also salt. It’s soft and delicious the way we do 😀

    First pan shd be high than u shd turn medium flame once d batter is poured right?

    We grind Coconut along with the Rice.Coconut gives additional taste to the Gavan.We call it Pan Polo and it tastes very yummy with coconut garlic chutney!

    Process of soaking the rice overnight requires lot of patience but it's worth waiting for. Do we need a specific griddle or any ordinary one will do?

      Very nice tutorial. We Konkanis add a little grated coconut to the rice while grinding. Thats 'panpolo'. If we add jaggery and puffed rice, they should be put a little thickly. Thats called 'Surnoli'.

    hi............i have tried many of your recpies including neer dosa they are just perfect, but can u tell me is there any trick to prevent neer dosa from sticking . as soon as i folded them on pan they stuck

      To prevent dosa from sticking dont fold it onto pan.. just take it out onto perforated plate or a broad sieve and leave it there for a while so that the steam will escape and then you can fold it.

      navin nonstick pan var neat nahi honar, thoda juna regular use madhala pan asel tar hoil... ya video madhey me thoda juna nonstick pan vaparla aahey.. cast iron (bhida) chya pan var pan chan hotat pun tawa changala tel lavun seasoned pahije.

    Mere nonstick tava me koi bhi dosa banao vo chipak jaata h.kya vo thik nahi ho sakta. Kya koi trick h jo non stick tava thik kar sake.me naya tava nahi lena chahti q ki ye waala bhi abhi hi liya tha.please share any video to help me.

      I'm using old tawa itself... as said the tawa should be too hot and apply good quantity of oil to the sides and little in centre... stir the batter each time and put on the tawa. .
      I got good dosa on first try itself

      yes it is regular rice that we use for cooking.. The variety of rice that I have used is sona masoori.
