This movie beautifully shows how Sashi was not respected in her own place, among her own people, in her own family but when she went to a completely new place and met strangers that's where she found her confidence in finding out the class using metro, she found respect in learning that cooking is an art, an identity- an entrepreneur. That's the irony that often we find our self worth in a completely new environment, among strangers. ❤️
Very well said
So true..the husband and her daughter disrespected her alot..she deserved better 🤦🏽♀️
@@ms_679Then the movie should have ended with her leaving her family.
It’s a stupid attempt to show that India is a bad country with bad culture and all, basically the same old India bashing plot.
Btw the real problem is people like you who would applaud even a stupidity spoken in English and will close their ears when someone’s giving real knowledge in Hindi or any other language.
Exactly i agree with you dear
Was always hoping she would end up with the french guy but she was to loyal.
I like the way that receptionist talked politely and slowly in English
I also like this
Yeah, such a sweetie - Kind, considerate & right for the job!!
She has to! That's her job, or else how would they run their classes? Besides, the US has a lot of immigrants from different countries who don't speak English, so they're used to it.
P.S. It's not the UK, or to be specific Britain, they're the ones who don't like people who are not white or people who can't speak English, or people who don't believe in Jesus. It's Britishers, they're kind of assholes like that. Americans are not so bad. I'm not saying they're angels but they just don't care much about these petty things.
You do understand its a movie
are you mad its a movie

"Nobody can help you better than you! "
I don't why I find this line chilling everytime. ❤️😇
Her husband killed her
Thanks for sharing this life changing phrase.
Very important thought is this
I like this line
Even the skydaddy@ll@h cant ? thought he is the one driving you nuts. :). 😇
Sreedevi was indeed a legendary actress. She never seemed the same while acting. She was a versatile actress, a quality that is extremely rare. Unfortunately we lost her too early.
Whaaaaaaaat?! She died?! Nooooo🥺

She died or what?
A single word entrepreneur..instill confidence in Shashi ..her face so light up ..loved the scene
Yes so true, coz she has never been loved & respected at her own place in the film
❤❤❤
The French guy really deserves to be with Sri Devi...
She never allowed it..she is married
@@Resident579 that's my point.... Her husband and kids don't deserve a kind hearted person... The way she was treated just because she doesn't know how to speak English... Which is not even her mother tongue to be ashamed of in the first place.... And on the second hand.. this French guy was very generous towards her.. there was a language barrier for sure.. but that didn't stop him from loving her the way he did... He understood her for who the person she was...
@@Resident579 she should have just you know valued herself...it's just my opinion to be honest....
@@fatemajamali8371 I see your opinion and may be she also felt something toward him(French guy)..that clearly shown in the movie..but a typical Indian wimin would not cheat his man..that's their nature..wimin like her are rare and loyal..If I was him I would never judge my wife that she dont know English.. instead i would try to teach her..and this way we could be more closer to each other..her husband in this movie missed this chance..he's stupid
@@Resident579 bro it's not called cheating par se... She didn't have to leave her husband because she found someone new.. or she fell in love with a new guy...I'm just saying is.. she should be more matured about this.. you know.. people never respects you if once they starts treating you like hell... You're point is true too... But that's what is the problem with Indian ladies even if we try to do something good for us we get a guilt feeling and we are taken to the guilt trip for choosing what's best for us...
Oh man this french gentleman makes me watch this scene again and again..The description of Dadhi by Laurent is Marvellous and that line "Her eyes are like two drops of cofee in cloud of milk" gonna stuck in my head .Such a heart touching scene..❤️❤️❤️..A simple yet a masterpiece movie...👌❤️❤️
the morale of the this plot is:
She was expecting people to respect her but all she needs to do is respect herself, accept her and love herself❤️
This movie really showcased her talent as an actress

This is a gem of a movie. I watched it many times. Different actors from different countries learning English in New York and each of them so talented and funny. This diversity of people made this film a heartwarming story to watch.

the irony in this comment
@@siddharthpillay5376 i think he meant 'trainee'
This is a school where people register for English classes, the receptionist obviously should be polite and professional knowing many of the pupils speak hardly any English. She was very friendly and helpful.

This movie makes me teary because as someone who’s parents don’t have the perfect English. It’s a reminder how ignorant and impatient people can be. Always be humble with people like that “) they’re learning a language from scratch and it can be hard
Hindi to English not sure what you think you should
People from all over the world are taking trouble to learn English but nowadays in India people are being propagated to learn hindi. What an irony
It's important to learn English early coz childhood is best time for learn and very common language
Can’t believe that every stranger she met was so polite, in New York!
Only in movies
they weren't though, the people in class got each other so they were all understanding. her experience in the coffee shop wasn't the best :/

Great movie to show how even after 70 years of independence, India or rather Bharat & many Hindus remain completely COLONIZED!!
I wonder how the story would have turned if Shashi chose to leave her arrogant husband for the French guy 😂😂😂
wait wait i don't remember sorry I haven't watched this movie a long time. (just asking) how was Shashi's husband arrogant
Exactly
@@crispypiethefirst he would always put her esteem down by pointing her incapability of not knowing English language. In India you're modern only if you can converse in English, else people would put you down or ignore you as if you don't exist. So his husband and daughter would pretend as if she's inferior. Shashi didn't get any help but was always mocked at.

what a genuine screen presence like no other this film was outstanding the way saridevi ji expressed a feeling of learning English and going in a coffee shop as if a real enxeity and fear came onto her as it was so real that few minutes of that sence blew me away. I don't understand why she had leave us I miss her with all my heart . This was an excellent movie I wish she was still here a performer like no other this lady had screen presence screen , the natural expression the highest intelligence of her inccence her skills to the extent and beyond was just out if this world. her each film has widely captured this on screen and the camera doesn't lie. Beautiful movie till this day Thank you
I'm a huge fan as well,We lost such a natural actor, I'm from South and watched all her south and hindi movies, she was mostly working in commercial movies cos of her stardom but few movies she had some serious role is Vasantha kokila and Aakali rajyam(telugu) and her work is phenominal. We lost a great actor, she will live forever in our hearts

@@rakshitagdoddagoudra English Vinglish
@shivmagarwal12974 -a coach to train you in English is what you need. Any language not just English for that matter is more than language for communication - it involves expression of feelings and emotions because it's about words (though not merely verbal - cos' there's non verbal which plays a big part in communication), and words shape your thinking and eventually your character and destiny..check out Emerson's quote on it. But very good thoughts
I liked the Sri Devi as sashi expression while learning n listening it really like she didn’t know how to talk in English. Sridevi played her role like she was real Shashi. Sridevi was legend.

The classroom environment and student mix is a light copy from the old 80’s British comedy tv series “Mind your language”.

I can't stop crying when she said that family is the only place you get love and respect. And they don't laugh at your weaknesses. So TRUE.
The pure and natural innocence... I really can't get over her charming acting skills. Like never ever for me 🙂
Every scene of this movie is unique and priceless. Sri Devi nailed it.

16:33 when such a moments comes (public speech), I say no always. I had joined a skill development coaching but that couldn't. Self practice can't overcome the nervousness when you've to speak publically.
