An oldie but a goodie? Family test in the GSR grade - Mitsubishi ASX 2023 review

  • The 2023 Mitsubishi ASX is one of the oldest small SUVs on the market. But it still has some good elements, especially in the value-packed GSR spec.
    Being based on the bigger, last-generation Outlander, the Mitsubishi ASX - which has been on sale in this current generation for more than a decade - still has one of the most practical interior spaces of the small SUV breed.
    With a big boot capacity and decent second row passenger space, there is good reason the ASX SUV is a popular car, even after so long on sale.
    And this 2023 Mitsubishi ASX GSR model comes with the punchier 2.4-litre petrol engine - which is the one to get in the ASX range. Pair that with a warranty of up to 10 years (if you service the car at Mitsubishi dealerships), and the case for the ageing ASX remains strong.
    But there are still some things that could be better. A lot better, in fact, as family reviewer Helen Frost finds. Watch the review for her key positive and negative attributes.

    We have the 2012 ASX. It still drives like a new one. Can't justify buying a new car as the old one still works so well.

    I have a 2015 GT model in pearl white, and I love it! Super dependable and well appointed. It is a bit small though, for a family of 4, especially if we want to take a trip. More cargo space in the back, rear AC vents, and a few more USB ports would have been awesome. Still very happy with my Outlander Sport and would recommend it to anyone!

    Very good review 👍.....covered everything. It is what it is, a small suv....we just purchased a 2020 VRX here in NZ, we don't have the GSR or the Exceed models here.

    I have a 2010 ASX and love it, hope Mitsubishi comes up with electric ASX and keep it a simple car as it is. Some people want all the bells and whistles, but to me the simplicity of ASX what makes it attractive. And hopefully if they do electric ASX, they will leave the physical buttons and toggles unlike in their airtrek which is all toucscreen. Overall, there is a market for cars like ASX, a small but spacious suv to go everywhere.

      I doubt if they will introduce an electric version of that car, more like an all new model copied from another manufacturer.

    The ASX needs rear AC vents and USB ports on all it's trim,a digital readout on the dashcam, satnav and ALL new cars regardless of brand need to have a full size spare tyre; and a couple of thousand dollars cheaper on all ASX trim levels.

    love the auzzie accent - now i watch all my reviews on auzzieland channels. i have to assume this lady is not super tall...otherwise this car looks enormous. hopefully they dont scrap these vehicles with the new renault-mitsubishi asx built in spain if i hear correctly. i would hate to see the great reliability of these cars destroyed by changes in production. japan built cars kick as*. as i get older i look much more into production and history than vehicle options. many vehicles out there are crap...the asx/rvr is not one of them. mine is still awesome 11 years later. good visibility. great maneuverability. reliable. simple. im 6'4" and it has lots of head room. the tall kids complain in the back seats so everyone needs to adjust the seats. paddle shifters are great for the smaller engine - my 2012 has it. enough power with paddles. auto is slow from a stop. fold the back seats down and use a moving blanket to haul a lot of stuff. i haul 2x4s and plywood with mine when needed. $120 after market roof rack.

      It's a 2.4 the old 4B12 been around forever and like grandpa's axe bullet proof will outlast humanity and on fuel usage at 9 . something is on average for a SUV the low compacity turbo eng with dct is roughly about the same eg MG zst Havel jollion and a few others in the euro range but with the 4b12 2.4 you can run on 91. And you don't need to be told which one will be more reliable long term

      I think it’s a reasonably priced car in comparison to others, it might not have all the gadgets but if you a family on a budget it will serve its purpose. I’ve had one for 9 years and it has 325k on clock and has barley cost a dime to maintain. Peace of mind motoring if you ask me.

    • @nessuno5403
      @nessuno5403 Рік тому +17

      It makes sense, unlike you. This is still made in Japan, cheap to run and reliable without frivolities. If it were overpriced, fine, but it isn't and it also has a 10 year warranty. Better than a Chinese alternative or a Korean, which are now premium priced.

    • @cityplanner3063

      I don’t think a lot of people would want to buy the GSR but instead a base model. It’s quite compelling for only $25k. If you want just a vehicle then the ASX does what it does for a great price. You’re not going to be shooting any fireworks with this car but for most people a car is just a car
