First of all, i can't believe you were only 24 at the time! Huge fan of Scott and Dc Talk. The groove and sheer feel of Jacob and Scott here is just phenomenal.
Sick backbeat. Perfect pocket. This track was a huge influence on my feel. I was always trying to play like Chad Smith, this track was like that but slightly more playful without losing any power or attitude. I loved it. I never knew who played it. Love this video. Thank you.
It’s crazy to me that I get to run in the same circles as these guys. I was so influenced by this album as a teenager and it carried me to my professional career. It’s humbling!
Jan 1996 as soon as I started getting paid from my student internship, I went and got Jesus Freak cassette and first listen to it on a Walkman, while getting all jacked up on a double espresso and reading actual magazines ( not an electronic device... mobile phone? Laptop? What's that??) at my favorite local coffee house in chicago. So 90s... Later that year, another internship which happened to be in Nashville ... I also purchased Gotee Bros Erace tape. Since they were based nearby, I kept hoping I would walk into a meat 'n' three and see one of the dct/gotee guys and stare at them 🙃
Jackie Street was the bass player on the original track. Legend. Jackie passed away some years ago. Jacob Lowry is playing in this video; a stud, who really nailed this bass part..
Lyrics Bombarded by philosophies that satisfy the surface I flee to something deeper at the risk of seeking purpose How can I hang in this environmental state of being When everything I'm striving for it's nothing that I'm seeing Won't you take my heart, won't you take my soul Won't you come and make me whole again You, you've got what I need and you never retreat Unto you I will concede So help me God To put my faith in you So help me God Before I come unglued Call it my addiction I can't get enough of you So help me God To put my faith in you Infected by the skin I'm in that's starving with desire And Jesus ain't the latest thing to come across the wire I throw myself in mercy for I am the chief of sinners But daily taking up my cross has brought it's share of splinters You're there when I call And you're there when I fall Even though I don't deserve it all You, you light my way Through the night and the day And from you I will not stray God so help me This is my soul's plea I'm desperately devoted I can't get enough of you Cause you are the one I love Cause you are the one I need Cause you are the one I'm seeking Cause you are the one for me
That is awesome! I loved this dose of nostalgia today, one of my favorite tracks on that album too!! Although, it's hard not to enjoy a track on that album!
Scott - unbelievable. So so good. We need more of these videos! And thank you for playing on my family's original tunes (The Andrews Family) in early April @ Daywind Studios. We were blessed beyond measure by what you brought to those songs. Would love for you to hear them. Looking forward to maybe working together more in the future!
WOW This was awesome. Thank you for making the original, and this. As many others have said, this was so much of my childhood. I'm pretty sure I broke the cassette, or scratched up the cd. I love everything about it; the lyrics, your drum parts, and that bridge just gets down.
Absolutely awesome! Thanks to the both of you. It was cool to see just how busy the bass player can be with the finger work... and the drums? Love it brother!
This is the type of drumming I was doing in as a kid to Van Halen, etc, on my air drum kit that happened to be identical to Alex VH's kit from the "Jump" video 😆 3:21 I love those Bernard Purdy type hi hat mute things! I'm not even a drummer, just a fan of great drumming
Pure funkadelicious rawk descended upon us from above in the form of the best album of the 90s.... Jesus Freak! Like mainlining caffeine. I love that janky screwed up guitar riff that opens the song... the chords from Day By Day apparently. Sounds like some kind of tape flutter/tape warp effect was used on that? ( I've heard Todd Rundgren using that) As well as filter/distortion. Also the "melting organ" at the end and the meat n three quip... everything about this song is awesome. Believe and notice that when you sing it, you are basically praying the sinner's prayer. And maybe that's the point!
Think you're right; then went on to Steven Curtis Chapman. Scott plays for Child's Anthem, too. They cover lots of TOTO and are excellent! @@bottomlinebassin2001
Oh man this gave me tingles......such nostalgia. Fantastic absolutely fantastic. It this similar to the same drum set up you used when you recorded it initially?
@@gwillymusic sorry...something very weird was happening with my system. You're exactly right...and you've still got it. Well done! I've always loved that album.
Still sound great
Thank you for sharing on FB, it brought me here🥳
Twenty-seven years later, and both the track and the drummer are straight fire!
One of the greatest album openers of all-time period.
First of all, i can't believe you were only 24 at the time! Huge fan of Scott and Dc Talk. The groove and sheer feel of Jacob and Scott here is just phenomenal.
Smiles. Nothing but smiles and goosebumps.
Jackie Street was my favorite bass player of all time! What a player he was. Great playing to you both!
We need more of this from the Jesus Freak album
I always loved this song! Still do!
Sick backbeat. Perfect pocket. This track was a huge influence on my feel. I was always trying to play like Chad Smith, this track was like that but slightly more playful without losing any power or attitude. I loved it. I never knew who played it. Love this video. Thank you.
That.. was.... AWESOME! That took me back 27 years, to the days when I was 23. WOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Hello from Brazil... Thank you for playing the best band so well
Nostalgia has entered chat.
Always a ton of respect for THIS MAN!…at any age. Competent and gifted.
Brooooo, I never thought it was you who recorded that masterpiece
Thanks for doing the Podcast with Desi! Your one cool cat!
It’s crazy to me that I get to run in the same circles as these guys. I was so influenced by this album as a teenager and it carried me to my professional career. It’s humbling!
F150 pocket. (I can drive a truck down the middle of that wide groove! Loved it man. Big fan of your work.
Oo wow!!!!! Oh my gosh!!! What a great Drummer!!!

AMAZING! Totally thought Otto Price played bass on the original track but I was wrong! Great stuff from both of you!
Jackie Street was the bass player on the original track. Legend. Jackie passed away some years ago. Jacob Lowry is playing in this video; a stud, who really nailed this bass part..
@@knightiger1 thank you!
you are one of the best drummers scott. you should replay other songs you played on !! good job
That was so clean, your playing just did my laundry
Magnífico !!!
Looking forward to more videos.
Bassist and drummer both crushed it.
aw yeah!! Awesome!!
I’d love to see a video like this for the guitar players. I believe Mark Townsend played live. Not sure who actually recorded the guitar.
I love the band, this song, and the drums are just amazing. I’m still in awe of the fill at 1:37
Wow. So cool
Lyrics
Bombarded by philosophies that satisfy the surface
I flee to something deeper at the risk of seeking purpose
How can I hang in this environmental state of being
When everything I'm striving for it's nothing that I'm seeing
Won't you take my heart, won't you take my soul
Won't you come and make me whole again
You, you've got what I need and you never retreat
Unto you I will concede
So help me God
To put my faith in you
So help me God
Before I come unglued
Call it my addiction
I can't get enough of you
So help me God
To put my faith in you
Infected by the skin I'm in that's starving with desire
And Jesus ain't the latest thing to come across the wire
I throw myself in mercy for I am the chief of sinners
But daily taking up my cross
has brought it's share of splinters
You're there when I call
And you're there when I fall
Even though I don't deserve it all
You, you light my way
Through the night and the day
And from you I will not stray
God so help me
This is my soul's plea
I'm desperately devoted
I can't get enough of you
Cause you are the one I love
Cause you are the one I need
Cause you are the one I'm seeking
Cause you are the one for me
I love it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just wow!!! Awesome! There’s no better teacher for a good tempo than “time”.. years of experience in one video.. perfectly executed.. ☝🏼🙌🏻
Just the right amount of salt and sugar...!
Awesome playing and mix is perfect 🙏🙏🙏
That is awesome! I loved this dose of nostalgia today, one of my favorite tracks on that album too!! Although, it's hard not to enjoy a track on that album!

Thank you for making my childhood AMAZING! Been a dcTalk fan from the first day I heard them.
Best Video on UA-cam in DECADES!
Welcome to the freak show changed my life
Superb!!!
Love this!
Beautiful playing!!!🙏🤘
Monsieur Stevenett!
I got something for you man bababababababa great song
Awesome! Always inspiring , cheers from
Buenos Aires
Perfect! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Totally agree, this RIPS!
I thought the bass track was Otto Price (Mr. Sugar Bear). Learned something new 27 years later. The bass on that song is so tasty.
I kind of took that for granted as well. On the bass was Jackie Street.
WOW

Scott, absolutely brilliant! One of my favorite albums! Thank you for sharing this and it brings back so many great vibes! Take care!
I so enjoyed this! Thanks! ♥️🙏🏻🤓
Can You do the cover from all album?... cause it sounds great
Well played then. Well played now.

I was 13 yrs old when i heard this lol

Such solid pocket IN FLIP FLOPS! 🙂
I thought Will Denton was the drummer for DC Talk?
I think he played on the tour and the following album
Think you're right; then went on to Steven Curtis Chapman. Scott plays for Child's Anthem, too. They cover lots of TOTO and are excellent! @@bottomlinebassin2001
@scott williamson, are you the one Miss Morgan complained about? lol. Awesome album! Takes me back to my teens.
Guess he didn’t hit the drum one more time or he wouldn’t be here today. Mrs. Morgan don’t play around. 😆
Oh man this gave me tingles......such nostalgia. Fantastic absolutely fantastic. It this similar to the same drum set up you used when you recorded it initially?
Thank you! So good! THIS is actually my favorite song off this album. Better than Jesus Freak! Although Mind's Eye might tie it...
Scott, inquiring minds must know. Do you know Paul Henry Wilmuth and are you intimately familiar with his genius music?
It’s weird hearing it without the percussion track.
Great job! The instruments need to be turned up a bit, though. I can't hear the bass at all.
let’s go Suga bear
27 years late? More like 27 seconds late!
👌🥲
That don't look like sugar bear!
I heard you was a DEAD Drummer! 😜
Hahahahha nice one
it's way out of sync
and the track is tuned down...I guess for rights purposes.
@@ToddChilders76 Just checked original. Track is not tuned down. Doesn’t look out of sync for me either. Might check your system?
@@gwillymusic sorry...something very weird was happening with my system. You're exactly right...and you've still got it. Well done! I've always loved that album.
