      Agreed. Too bad some of the fine details are lost due to compression. Well, another reason to have a copy of the original recording.

    my wife is big Culbertson fan. Each time that he came to Chicago it was a must to go see him. He never once let us down. He ALWAYS put on an amazing show. Tickets were never cheap but we always felt that we got our money's worth. He has a lot of energy and his band is made up of great musicians who clearly are passionate about their music.

      That's the luxuries of being a musician when you're able to jam all day and play Everyday to come up with licks Melodies and solos and a whole host of other things that come with it not to mention going out in the road and living out of a suitcase and going from one venue to another that's the best part about being a musician and for me I used to do it but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world well said and spot on for your comment earlier my friend and Brian corbinson is badass

    • @thesoledad25
      @thesoledad25 7 років тому +24

      Too right Phyllis, you made me laugh. this is a supreme combination of talented musicians who in turn get their chance to shine when required and the culmination is what we hear. A great 54 second bass solo though to admire and the rest are just as awesome, sax soloist, guitarists, drummer, brass section, percussionist, truly all superb. Check out the guitarists face at 6.09 looking at the bass player. "Damn bro, gimme some of that to squeeze in my coffee, that's sweet!!". All good.

    • @phyllisdexter2784
      @phyllisdexter2784 7 років тому +3

      thesoledad25 Finally. Someone who hears the whole rather than the part. Culbertson's keyboard solo, especially the high end work is really an extraordinary piece of work. The drummer is incredibly tight. I've worked with some talented drummers in my time but that's as good as it gets. The piece as a whole is not as "free as one might find in pieces that allow for more flexibility in jazz. But the funk/pop element provides he more predictable compositional stylings of those forms and is more structured than what purists of jazz would expect. I mean it's not Charlie Parker or Miles but it takes nothing away from the displayed musicianship here. Sadly, what we hear in this version has not been duplicated in live performances I've seen. Of course, the studio setting gives much more control to post production and mixing so clearly that's going to displace a stage performance. But I'm all for studio and fixing the acoustical problems presented by outdoor and stage settings.

He has upbeat music along with soothing music for when you just need to chill. I hope to get to see him in concert one day. I will have to travel since he doesn;t come to NM. I love Brian's music. I saw him in concert for the first time and I was not disappointed. I was elated and dancing in my seat the entire concert. I hope to attend other concerts. I hope he comes back to New York again soon. His Jazz is so romantic and smooth.
