    You are so right and this was a huge issue for me! For so long I searched for healthier options and nothing measured up. For a while I made my own version of toasted oat and hazelnut milk, which actually was delicious, but to get the accustomed lightening power it was still hugely caloric when drinking multiple mugs a day, and if I got lazy I would just cave and use the nasty stuff. I tried to drink it black, and found it totally unsatisfying and disappointing. It wasn't until I accepted that nothing "healthy" could sub for that accustomed fix, and for me my only real options were to STOP drinking coffee entirely, or learn to drink it black. It was VERY uncomfortable at first and I did feel totally deprived... for a while, but eventually it was very liberating to be in control, instead of being controlled by old mindless habits.

    Before watching what you had to suggest, the first thing that came to mind is either making a very thin plant milk by increasing the plant to water ratio so it’s low calorie and then adding a good bit of starch (corn, potato, etc) and heating it to thicken it up. But that just sounds not very pleasurable to me. Then I thought about an oat-based creamer as it’s naturally low fat and I’ve successfully used oat milk heated up to make a thick, satisfying chocolate pudding before. A quick Google search confirmed that brands like Califia farms does make something like this already. Not that I have any interest in it, but my mind got busy trying to figure out how it would work 😅
    You’re right though that sometimes the ‘healthier’ version may not always be helpful and a better approach might be to re-examine and change one’s habits to get the long term, sustainable results they want.

    I have always drunk my coffee black
    so coffee creamer hasn't been on my agenda.
    However I did have a biscuit and cake craving
    and started my journey to WFPB
    making lots of oat and banana cookies.
    I have now given up making them except for celebrations

    If it doesn’t have to be 100% fat-free, you could soak a cup of cashews in 1 or 1.5 cups of hot water for 30 minutes, then blend in a hi-speed blender & there’s your healthy creamer.

    I think it is possible to have a healthy relationship with a vegan coffee creamer. I either do plain oatmilk, or sometimes a product designed specifically to be a creamer, like Elmhurst pistachio creamer. But I've enjoyed a splash of these in my joe for so many years now that I don't remember what full fat creamers are like. The oat creamers are just as good as I remember.

    Hello Andrew, I am Michelle, one of the group coordinators for Alcoholics Anonymous for district D here in Victoria (North/West region). Your comments about non-alcoholic beer are very wrong and insulting to many members. For many, a non-alcoholic beverage (NAB) is seen as a very valid 'bridge' away from alcohol and provides a comfort for many. It is encouraged for members who feel they are slipping back, and can often settle cravings, anxiety, thoughts. Similar to the way vaping and cessation therapy (gum, patches) is used for smokers; NABs are a very useful tool for many; and I feel that your comments in this video do more to make people feel guilty for using NAB. We stress that guilt for any addict is an absolute no-no and I just worry that whilst it may be very easy for you to brush away with a smile the ease of not using NAB, for many members it is essential as part of their recovery and they should never be made to feel guilty. Please consider your thoughts and seek the opinion of experts in addiction before making such brazen comments. I commend you on your weight loss, but you are not an expert in addiction or have psychological training (as far as I know) to make such statements which are very damaging. Michelle, aread.org.au/.

      Thanks for your comment Michelle, it's a good discussion to have. I have nothing at all against non alcoholic drinks, or healthy coffee creamer, or vaping or any other products that are healthier alternatives and can help people stop engaging in destructive behaviour patterns. I thought I made that pretty clear in this video that if the healthier alternative work for you then that's great and that I was just presenting a different idea that might be worth considering. I've known a former alcoholic who loves alcohol free beer and I've also known a former alcoholic who wont even drink kombucha because it reminds him of beer and won't use nonalcoholic wine even for cooking. I know that this idea isn't for everyone, that's why I said "I feel like for a lot of alcoholics" rather than " for all alcoholics" and I noticed that you said "for many" which essentially means the same thing. I also said "might" and "maybe" lots of times to acknowledge that what I'm saying is not a definite rule and the idea I'm sharing is not necessarily right for everyone but could be worth considering. I don't know why you said I was wrong to say that, since clearly there actually are a lot of recovering alcoholics who don't find non alcoholic drinks helpful and I was very careful not to make a blanket statement about that. Incidentally, while AA has certainly helped a great number of people, there are also many who haven't found it helpful. I made it clear that this was just my point of view and might be worth considering. I really don't understand how this video could be insulting or make an alcoholic feel guilt for drinking non-alcoholic drinks. Regardless, I was not intending to spark any kind of debate nor hurt anyone in any way so I'm very sorry if I've been insensitive here.

      @@SpudFit Thank you Andrew for your apology (accepted) and for reflecting on your poor choice of words. It's important to have this discussion and recognise that not everyone will fit into the model of care that suits one person, but not the other. Blanket statements are not helpful and may trigger guilt and a feeling of failure in some, which is not what we want here at AA. Obviously I am passionate about AA and what we offer and would welcome you to attend any of our districts and see how helpful it is for our clients.

It's not about good listening etc, I have been doing this for years, whereas people like Andrew and others may be knew to addiction issues and so aren't aware of the facts. I don't think he was being overly dramatic...it can be a very interesting topic that's for sure! :) Regards, Michelle. aread.org.au/.

      Wow, there’s always going to be that one person to get offended no matter what you say or how delicately you say it. Someone who says your ‘opinion’ is wrong shouldn’t be taken serious anyway, because they can’t possibly contribute anything good to the conversation after that. Thanks for the video; I know it’s a hard pill to swallow and that most people don’t want to hear it because it’s not good news about their bad habits (aka addictions). I have a close family member who has been through AA 5 or 6 times now. He has tried to ‘replace’ the alcohol with other things too and has even gone for very long periods of time without the alcohol, but ALWAYS substitutes that addiction for another while “sober.” Long story short…he’s still an addict. And he’s just one example (I have 4 more) but the only people I’ve seen that truly become free from their addictions stopped, not replaced, the addition. I’m not saying it’s easy, just that it’s the reality. Thanks again for this video.

    Actually I tried to drink caffeinated coffee everyday for about 6 months, I feel my heartbeat is elevated a bit, and sometimes I feel a bit of chestpain right after drinking coffee.
    So, I don't drink coffee nowadays.

    • @SpudFit
      @SpudFit  2 роки тому +2

      What sort of weight do you want to gain? If it's muscle then you'll have to lift heavy things more often. If it's fat that you want to gain then you'll need to eat more fat, potatoes only won't do that.

      @@denisleonard1565 first of all I'd get properly measured and tested by an expert with the right equipment and knowledge. Common opinions on what is underweight and overweight aren't necessarily accurate. Sometimes lean and a perfectly healthy people can be viewed as being underweight, just because we aren't used to seeing that so much in our modern world. Second thing is I'd find a plant based dietician or niutritionist to help you. The best way to gain fat while still eating whole, unprocessed plant foods is to eat more fatty foods like avocado, nuts etc

    Andrew, have you had an omega 3 and 6 fatty acid profile done? Potatoes are deficient in both. Did you get dry eyes, dry skin when you ate just spuds for 365 days? Did you test your insulin levels throughout? Obviously you likely suffered from hyperinsulinemia and it would of been good to see how well the potatoes rectified this metabolic disorder.

    • @SpudFit
      @SpudFit  2 роки тому +6

      Yes my blood fatty acid profile was tested by Adelaide University at the end of my year of eating only potatoes and they were surprised to see that everything was perfect. My skin was in great condition, my wife had a running joke about me having a 'pregnant glow'. Other people noticed how my skin improved too. Insulin levels were tested every time I had blood tests and that wasn't great at the start but normalised quickly.

      @@SpudFit Hi Andrew, Thanks for replying! Could you please direct me to a video that specifically shows the omega 3 and insulin results? (in your books, on your site or on UA-cam?). Did they not send the results via email? Yes, I can do my own tests. It is going to cost me quite a bit for these tests. One insulin test is £109 but that will change over time so I will need a few if it is not in range (interesting to know how long that could be). There is a fatty acid ratio test or a full fatty acid profile test and I'd need a nurse take me blood as I can't leave the house. Your cronometer chart for potatoes was impressive for most nutirents, even iron. This is shown in one of your videos and suggested your daily potatoes (2.8kg) gave you only 18% of omega 3 needed and 10% of the omega 6 and it also suggested the selenium and calcium was inadequate. Nevertheless, calcium needs may go down if you eat no acidic animal products because it is not competing with excessive phosphorus. Vitamin D and B12 were deficient so a B12 supplement is essential and getting sunshine or vit D supp. Folate was a bit low on the chart (about 71%).

    • @SpudFit
      @SpudFit  2 роки тому +1

      if you search my channel for test or testing or results then you should get them. I had a full blood fatty acid profile done at Adelaide University at the end of a full year of nothing but potatoes and they were very impressed with my excellent results and so was my doctor. I don't know where the paperwork is for that s you can take my word for that or not, that's up to you. Regardless of percentages of anything shown in cronometer, the levels of all the different omegas in my blood was great. My DEXA scans aslo showed that my bone density went up slightly over the course of the year, which again is more important than what cronometer says about calcium.
