      There are a few words for car in Spanish. In Latin America the tendency is to use 'el carro'. In Spain 'el coche'. Some speakers of Spanish will also use 'el auto' or 'el automóvil'. You will often find this is the case for many words. For example, there are many words for 'pen': la pluma, el boli, el bolígrafo, el lapicero, la lapicera, la birome, etc.... Variety is the spice of life.
