When you're a French crusader on a Greek island who becomes vassal of a Caucasian dinasty governing Egypt so you get the Turks and the Venetians to support your independence
If you are in that region (Greece, Middle East, Persia), giving provinces to the Ottomans is like saving fire with gas, there will be no peace between you and them
The Ottomans usually break their alliance if I take any province near Antioch or Greece. Nice thing about Cyprus is that you can usually secure an alliance with France if you do it sooner rather then later, who provide a nice buffer if the Ottomans abandon you. Just gotta make sure you handle the Mamluks and grow strong before once you can no longer call in the Ottomans.
Taking provinces in Greece meant the Ottomans will eventually gain claims or even permaclaims on your land because of its mission tree, meaning their hostile attitude was unavoidable at that point
@@TheRedHawk It's totally doable. You just have to utilize vassals to do it. You don't need to convert all provinces to fetishist. The land only needs to be controlled by fetishist nations. Once I controlled all land needed I enforced religion on them all and got the achievement (why I didnt do it straight away was to keep them loyal so they helped me in wats.

One reason why there is Catholic French/Italian areas in old Byzanthium lands is the 4th crusade. Instead of getting to the holy land, they ended up attacking Zara as basically mercenaries of Venice. So after that the Pope excommunicated the whole Crusade. (You are not supposed to Deus Vult on other Catholics.) Aaaand the next thing they did was to try and establish an exiled relative of Bysanthium Emperor on the throne and long story short: they sacked Constantinopole and partitioned Byzanthium. There was a handful of Latin and Catholic states in the area and you can see the last remnants of that still around in 1444.
I feel like as Cyprus the game wants you to ally Aragon, the Pope, and maybe another big Catholic nation in Europe and do a crusade against the Mamluks and the Ottomans. As Dahomey, you should be Da Homey, be allied to as many nations as possible.
The way I managed to do it was by attacking Byz immediately (and the Knights) using the claims you get and getting strong allies like Aragon, Poland and I think Austria I also went to get the Latin Empire but they were just too OP :(
I seriously appreciate that you take the time to show us no console chicanery is going on man. If you mess up you mess up and it's really entertaining.

Your pretender rebels probably teleported to Malta and beat the separatist rebels. After pretenders enforce their demands, you keep a portion of their troops. That's why you had troops there and the separatists didn't flip your province to Naples.
I think the expansive strategy is far better. I recommend buying indulgence right at the start to sway the Pope and get claims on Byzantium to seize Constantinople early. the reason the southern crusader states all have different primary cultures is because their leaders are crusaders of those cultures originally
