'Hey Serbia, you wanna buy some ships?' 'Sure, how many you got?' 'Five.' 'Gimme three, and you got a deal.' 'Okay, three it is.' 'On second thought, better make it two.' 'Umm, okay, here's two ships.' 'Ah, think I'll only take one now I think about it.' 'Err...yeah...one ship. Happy now?' 'Give me one less ship and we'll definitely have a deal.' >:(
The Basileus achievement actually isn't as crazy as the Steam description makes it sound. It's actually just reconquering the Byzantine lands, not the entirety of the Roman Empire. At least, it was when I did it shortly before the Cradle of Civilisation patch. That said, if the campaign goes well you could try and snowball Basileus into Mare Nostrum
Petite Wolf yeah the description is really weird, it's says reform the roman empire, but you don't have to form the roman empire. You basically need all of anatolia
Petite Wolf I got this achievement and went away for like 2 hours leaving the ottomans as like an OPM or something and when I came back after going to the shop, they had taken all of Egypt and were OP again :L
Looking forward to another campaign - thanks for sharing! Byzantium has been getting a lot of love lately... and from the devs as well obviously. Byzantium games are normally fun though so no complaints from me! Excited to follow along while still completing my own campaign as The Netherlands. Maybe I'll play as Byzantium next, haha.
Selling my Navy is 100% the opposite of what i do in every Byzantium game, but selling it to your vassal is actually quite the brilliant idea to get the best of both worlds, the extra money and the ships. Never expected to catch anything useful after having done so many campaigns. Way to go Arumba :D. Edit: the only caveat would be that your vassal tends to be pretty dumb when you declare on the ottomans and gets his boats killed often, still a good consideration though.
I remember my BYZ campaigns like it was yesterday. Best game of EU4 I have ever played. Its a good achievement to go for and by some black magic I managed to get it on my third try. If I may give a tip it would be to try and reach the caucuses and take the orthodox land there. If you can get there you can get some of the clay you will need to fight the turks.
I’m actually really excited for this campaign. I’m much bigger fan of the vanilla campaigns and the underdog countries like Ryukyu so this is gonna be dope
Hello, for some reason I stopped watching Arumba recently. About a year ago I would watch like 70% of his videos. It's been months since I last watched, and its good to be back.
Yay! Was hoping for a cool achievement run in cradle of civilization, as in the heart of the middle east. The mamluk play through made me sad when it stopped, and him not jumping on killing the ottomans. Would of been a great achiv where the mamluks over take the ottos. But any EU4 play though makes me happy! Was thinking you stopped playing EU4 or something arumba!
i don't think the turk ever had cores on blurple. They only had cores on the Sunni minors in Anatolia so now they are more likely to take the city of worlds desire mission first and attack byzantine first
Arumba, just play the way you've been playing for years. That's why most of us watch you. I don't understand why people complain and try to get you to play differently. (Seems a bit rude to me) There are plenty of other channels out there. I'm sure they can find someone who plays the way they like.
How to win as Byzantium: Step 1: Build a crap ton of galleys (Go over force limit) Step 2: Go to war with Venice and take Euboea Step 3: Once you have Euboea, try to -move your capital to Euboea (optional), or build a fort in Euboea -train some mercenaries in Euboea -Anything that attracts attention from the Ottoman forces Step 4: Get as many allies and wait for Ottomans to declare on you, or declare on the Ottomans yourself Step 5: Try to bait most of the ottoman forces in moving to Euboea Step 6: Pull our your navy and trap them in Euboea Step 7: You win the war as long as the Ottomans doesn’t have powerful allies :)
last time i pulled of a succesfull byz game (sometime after the strait crossing rework, that you can't just cut off the ottomans by having naval supremacy.) i managed to pull off a win with the help of albania, serbia and hungary. the amazing albanian general at the head of the hungarian army pretty much won the war for me. i recomend getting military acces from an ally and hiding your troops in their land btw
Interesting decision to get rid of the navy, as blocking the Ottomans with ships has been the best way to deal with them as Byzantium. I've been playing as Theodoro and usually we manage to defeat the Crimea/Ottoman navy with the help of Trebizond / Byzantium. I'm curious to see how this strategy plays out.
Same I did my BYZ/Theodoros/Trbizond achievements by beating the Ott with the straights and galleys I never tried something else! So curious to see how he'll manage to do it
I had maybe like 8 or 9 galleys but a pretty decent admiral who was like 4/2/X/X... I know some players prefer heavies in early but it's kinda too expansive for my economy imo... AI is not very smart so you can easily beat them by taking them when they're not grouped!
It's pretty true! It requires less attention for winning but you have to use a province for like two years without building anything and the maintenance cost is so expansive when galley is just 0,04 ducat a month... which is basically less than nothing.. I may said an error but I think it's the big difference betwenn DDRJake and MrFlorryWorry
Frankly, the rivaling system is bad. Try starting a game as Poland, historical friend of Hungary, where Hungary hasn't rivaled you. Good Luck. Now, quit, and start a new game as Lithuania, and watch as every game you start as them, Hungary rivals you, and barely rivals Poland. Now start as either the Teutonic order or Denmark, and watch Hungary rival you half the time, and not rival Poland or Lithuania. Now, start as Baden, and watch the Teutons rival you, for some fucking reason. Point being, day one rivals are terrible. Early game is predictable as all hell because of it. If anything, in this game about alt history, nations should only set rivals on day 2.
or like how you are great power in europe (like germany) with no influence or anything to do with anywhere else in the world, and get rivaled by some indian kingdom.
I'm pretty sure it will become easier in the next patch when they rework the missions. All the claims that Byzantium gets (so pretty much all europe) will be permanent claims.
Last bysatium you did kept me occupied for the whole series. This one's gonna be even better since you have to conquer the whole Mediterranean sea for the event to kick in, usually you just loose interest after the initial difficulties are overcome.
Preston Coleman It's interesting Arumba didn't go for the Imerti alliance in this run. If you improve with Imerti you can ally and royal marry them; and almost ensures you get a PU over Imerti because they have no heir and start very old (that's what Georgia got).
medieval-europedoteu gives you another option to play as the Byzantine Empire. Starting in the early 14th century, the starting position is still a little better than it is in EU IV
Why did you, why did you, why did you, WHYYY. Why did you start campaign as a Byzantium before the new patch? It’ll add new missions system that will have unique missions for Byzantium.
Oh god the nostalgia. I had a byzantine game where i was able to ally hungary and Poland, beat the turks, and eventually got a massive empire (minus 1/2 of spain) and had a personal union over russia with a large colony in much of the new world.
You can beat the Ottos right from the start by allying albania calling them in promising land and having their god tier general attach to your army, it takes a lot of micro but its a much faster and decisive blow to the Turks.
This is great because I just started my own Byzantium play through, and I'm having mad troubles with aggressive expansion and coalitions forming! Looking forward to see how you deal with those!
I've been really aggresive, going east/west/east/west to take advantage of truces but now everyone hates me. Coalition opinion with Austria for example, who I've beaten up on but only taken coastal Gorz so far, is something like -120 last I checked. I'm too powerful for the coalitions to fire, but it does make it difficult to expand. First idea I took was diplomacy which helped a bit
Arumba FlorryWorry use 5 heavies and killed the entire fleet all you have to do is trap their armies on EUBOEA and you can kill the ottomans and put Athens onto scuttage and get access to that island so you can park your army there and bait them there
3 province minor? No. Byzantium is a 3 province Empire.
That once ruled whole Europe.
Fuck yeah.
3 Province Roman Empire
+LuVedBR That was Germany.
+hughn dicarian "Germany was part of the Roman Empire."
Oh, you have no idea how painful that was to read.
Yeah.... that popped up in my alerts and I had to read it three times before I realized the person was just stupid.
'Hey Serbia, you wanna buy some ships?'
'Sure, how many you got?'
'Five.'
'Gimme three, and you got a deal.'
'Okay, three it is.'
'On second thought, better make it two.'
'Umm, okay, here's two ships.'
'Ah, think I'll only take one now I think about it.'
'Err...yeah...one ship. Happy now?'
'Give me one less ship and we'll definitely have a deal.'
>:(
Take a look at that EU4 map.
Oops.
Who will win?
The ottoman empire or...
one nostalgic boi
Well, Arumba, you've started something that actually interests me for the first time in over a year.
Yeah I was starting to think he wouldn't come back to some good old eu4 at all! His Mamluk and Poland campaigns just felt like fillers
I love watching him go for a solid goal when playing.
Omg, he's doing it. The absolute madman!

It should have said restore the eastern Roman Empire

@@tylerbennett4488 you... Just let your game run? Wtf
Finally, Arumba has come BACK to doing EU4 achievement runs! Still hoping to see him try a Caddo or Wichita one tag run.
SO happy to see EU4 again!
Love you Arumba, this series will be great! Liked.

Good to see EU4 back again!

Yes Arumba EU4! And going for an achievement I'm currently working on myself as well! Good luck
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS ANOTHER ARUMBA EU4 SERIES
I'm excited for this campaign. Honestly I haven't followed EU4 for the last few patches, but I don't feel completely lost
Arumba actively saying something is going to be starting off slow. I imagine it’ll be 1450 by part 20
Aldrane7 Nope, part 5
New Arumba series that I actually want to watch FeelsGoodMan
The series I have been waiting for since purple phoenix.

Your EU IV series are my favorite
Finally some EU4! CK2 is amazing but the abbasid adventure just didn't catch me as other of your CK2 series
Agreed, the abbasid adventure was a bit to stale for my taste
I THOUGHT THIS WAS CK2 GOD BLESS YOU ARUMBA
Basileus achievement has existed since 2013.
I've been watching your channel for a while now, and this was something I was really hoping you would do! Keep being awesome!
This series got me to resub, and I sorely missed your videos
Go for Mare Nostrum!
;-; tears of happiness

this is the first like after 2015 video ive watched of you and damn son your voice has changed
He's back
Finally More EU4!
ARUMBA
I missed Arumba. I did not watch him for the last 2 years. I am happy to return with Byzantium series.
Make Byzantium great again!
Damn, this is the EU4 campaign I've been waiting for...
You know arumba is beloved when the video is up for a day with 2000 likes and literally only 8 dislikes.
Arumba play in slow mode = 1 year in 12 episodes

Arumba i will be very disapointed if you don't also try and go for Mare Nostrum.

woot more EU4!

alright Arumba ive gotten back into EU4 gl!
The Byzantine navy roflstomps the ottomans if you spam galleys or build a few heavies, FYI.
How to win as Byzantium:
Step 1: Build a crap ton of galleys (Go over force limit)
Step 2: Go to war with Venice and take Euboea
Step 3: Once you have Euboea, try to
-move your capital to Euboea (optional), or build a fort in Euboea
-train some mercenaries in Euboea
-Anything that attracts attention from the Ottoman forces
Step 4: Get as many allies and wait for Ottomans to declare on you, or declare on the Ottomans yourself
Step 5: Try to bait most of the ottoman forces in moving to Euboea
Step 6: Pull our your navy and trap them in Euboea
Step 7: You win the war as long as the Ottomans doesn’t have powerful allies :)
Heavies only dude not Galleys...
A possible problem with that strat is what if the Ottomans split their army, and only send half to Euboea?
I just start sieging provinces on the Anatolian side and wait for Venice to destroy high WE ottomans
YOOOOOOO SO HYPED FOR A NEW EU4 CAMPAIGN 😭😭
the achievement is one of the founding achievements i think of the game coming out 5 years ago
I’m sooooo damn pumped for this
Omg:O im so happy:-D moar eu4 yes...
So this is the yt channel all the drama is connected to. Don't worry, i just come for the acheivement

Actually some voluteers from Venice came to help the Byzantie, but in EU4 they always rival you.

Weird timing to start an EU4 game, considering there is a major patch coming soon
All you need are strong allies and a strong galley navy. Don't forget a lot of luck!

I believe having 3 heavies is enough to beat down the ottoman fleet in the early game
3 could possibly do it, but 4 secures it.
Florryworry tactics?
SoulCrusher669 You can actually just build three galleys and can take on their navy, if you use an admiral.
They removed the Gally fighting power in the Mediterranean?
go broke and go 5, you can get rid of them

Why did you, why did you, why did you, WHYYY. Why did you start campaign as a Byzantium before the new patch? It’ll add new missions system that will have unique missions for Byzantium.
New missions are gonna be for everyone...
Octavian Blaga Yup, but Byzantium will have a unique set
they have been there for some years now, only to actually take them was quite hard to archieve, since they often didn't appear.
Absent [Heivland] every country will have a unique set... Every country is unique.
Not every country. Some will have generic missions ;D
I’m ready
"Don't want to worry about disputed sex" - Arumba, 2018.4:30

I really enjoy the campaigns! Two-a-days maybe!?
What makes the provinces look like that? Is it a mod?
Hurrah another EU4 campaign
Arumba you can compete against their navy if you build a lot of galleys and a few heavy .. picking them out when they’re separated is the key ...
Oh god the nostalgia. I had a byzantine game where i was able to ally hungary and Poland, beat the turks, and eventually got a massive empire (minus 1/2 of spain) and had a personal union over russia with a large colony in much of the new world.

I'm too powerful for the coalitions to fire, but it does make it difficult to expand. First idea I took was diplomacy which helped a bit
You don't need to restore the Roman empire to get the achievement. Just anatolia and greece. Not sure if that is your personal goal or what.
