- Most real combat missions are performed without radio communications between aircraft. Today we try to run a long complex mission without the ability to talk to each other. What could possibly go wrong?

Grump cam was priceless when he opened the chips bag I lost it.
Despite what Cap said, I would love more missions like that. Even if he wants to cut down on the flight time to the location would be fine. The bombing and fight was much more intense without the coms and with that clutch radar play by Simba.
This was a fun - yet stressful mission to fly - thanks for having me on this one!
I loved Grump eating the potato chips! I totally pictured a military pilot who snuck them aboard the plane and was just sitting back on autopilot enjoying them! I really liked this video, especially Grump's little solo moments in his cockpit. I would love to see you guys do more videos like this.
"If Cap flies into this mountain, I'm just going to follow him." Grump officially bored to death. For the record guys, being early on target is just as bad as being late. When multiple assets are in play, you may blow the element of surprise, or not allow friendlies to get out of the way, etc. For US/NATO the acceptable TOT range is +/- 10 seconds.
In this case, the entire strike package was early so that's why we pressed on.
Cap : remiding the mission to himself every 10 minutes.

That was way cooler than I thought it would be. Y’all flew that like you knew how everyone else would react. No talking but just the wing waggles to get attention and you know the other one sees something. I liked y’all talking on the ground. I was thinking it should be that way. This was interesting to watch and Grump is a trip!
In my Gulf War days, we carried a detachment of what I think were Sea Sprite helos who operated at night in EMCON A. Mad respect for those guys to be able to coordinate attacks under those conditions.

Every time you went to Grumps view, I was LMAO, That was hilarious.
In fairness, while the individual aircraft and flight elements don’t talk to each other, usually there is a combat coordinator in an AWACS or ground station. That coordinator can update the various elements on mission status without the aircraft themselves having to transmit.
The most amazing thing is that the computer is calculating each and every pixel in real time close and far in perspective portions.up dating hud displays again in real time. Its just amazing

Mission and Tasks, as long as you have been given your commanders intent, you can crack the mission. All you need is a FRAGO and you then conduct your Estimate.
Top tip, take your risks early not late in the mission.

You can set up F-18 autopilot so that it automatically follows steerpoints and go take a nap, drink several cups of tea, read a book, visit the loo, go out to buy milk and get back.
And that random fireball at the target was one of F-16s hitting itself with it's own bombs, lol.

Yes BUT to put your mic back on you have to temporarily exit game to get access to mic so was not worth the risk.

This was a very good demonstration of the issues of including emissions control as part of the sortie, with the added disadvantage of no hand signal (rude or otherwise!). I do hope **sometime** in the future you'll try another similar or more complex mission. Judging from the other responses, we'll insist on more cockpit voice recorder clips of the Grumpmeister chilling out whilst 9-feet off your starboard wing - eating potato-chips/crisps ... listening to "Girl from Ipanema" elevator music ... or maybe even Grump slowly infuriating a cold-caller allegedly from AT&T "Technical Department" 🤣(In the interest of balance, other Internet service providers are available.)

Well the landings were real cool, how about a landing competition in landing the shortest you possibly can on an airstrip.
The F/A-18C has a Time On Target feature. not sure why you didn't utilize it. You even made a video tutorial for it
Also you don't need to burn off the extra fuel to lose the weight because you can dump it with a switch
I know but I just love the challenge of working it out manually as I go.

It would be cool to see DCS implement a 'Quiet Coms' setting where you can program a toggle to give a silent 'hand signal' to the others in the group. Every signal given will have its own symbol which when pressed will show up on screen to the others. For example, if you needed to pick up the pace you could make a symbol that appears as a flame with an up arrow indicating more power, or less power with a flame symbol down arrow indicator.

the only way this would truly work in DCS is if they implement some sort of hand sgnal system for the pilot models
edit: also cap as flight lead you wouldn't wag your wings because wingmen always have to keep their lead in sight unless otherwise directed by said lead
edit 2: it's missions like these where the F-16's DED time functions come in really handy lol
Could probably set up some type of text-based script system like they have with loyal wingman where they press some buttons through a menu and then just display the text on the server.

You would have lost me at landing an F16 on a 4K runway. My flare out takes 6K and even then I am 50/50 at making the end threshold. lol maybe not that bad, but it feels like it sometimes. Toughest mission to date. Because usually to achieve success someone steps up and takes a verbal command to fix a problem. "...Fireball, head north and take out that baddie..." or "Simba you take the one on the right and I'll take the left". Target deconfliction and task prioritization are two huge reasons for successful missions. Whoo boi!
Guess the fix is to land that F-16 like a turbo prop rather than a 737 (Slow and really early touchdown, of course you can have the bad habbit of "dragging" the aircraft to the runway as well (Full flaps, high angle of high and high power setting at low altitude would be "dragging")

From the P-40 pilot's flight manual, some examples of communicating with radio silence are:
- Assembly -> Rocking of wings
- Open up or loosen formation -> Fishtail (use the rudder only)
- Echelon left -> dipping the left wing
- Echelon right -> dipping the right wing
- Attention! Expect a rapid maneuver -> rapid fluttering of the ailerons
- Landing -> pumping of the elevators
- Switch to full tank of gas -> rotating the wrist as though turning a selector valve.
