    What I like to do is pick a random book from my house and read parts of it in a bunch of different voices. It's fun.

    Here's a tip, from a Producer/Director to a voice actor, please make sure there are little to none background noise, and that you know how to edit your own audio or have someone to do it. Most casting directors *will not hire you or even consider you if your audio is downright crap with static noise and all that bs.* For the love of everyone and their ears, don't do it.

    • @bluesansball3707
      @bluesansball3707 4 роки тому +37

      Oh yeah, my friend was casting for a cartoon and somebody's audition had a massive static noise in the background, but he was the only one who auditioned for a specific character, so my friend actively sought out for somebody to play that role instead

    • @anamewoah5336

      How do u suggest editing it out?? Very beginner here.

      @@anamewoah5336 well,if you use audacity to record your voice there is an option that is called noice reduction that will get rid of the most background noice.You need to be careful because it can also damage the quality of your recording and your voice will sound like its been recorded with a very bad mic.

    Ive been doing VA stuff off and on for like 8 years.. and ive still yet to do a proper demo real. its not easy XD

    • @CDawgVA
      @CDawgVA  7 років тому +115

      I've yet to make one, I really don't want to until I have access to a studio for a couple of hours as well as a proper script and choice of character voices. It's really not easy making a good demo there's so many ways to lose the listeners attention and that's why I tell newer VA's to avoid making one like the plague!

    • @tehRogue
      @tehRogue 7 років тому +34

      But then at the same time everyone says the best way to get your voice out there is with a Demo Real. The amount of mixed messages is not good for newer Va's I know i sure got confused back when i started. Glad you're trying to pass on some good tips to everyone.

      100% the best way is to have good connections, no one randomly searches through demo reels. But having people who are quick to recommended you or tell you about auditions is 10x times more useful.

    • @tehRogue

      Agreed. Connections are the best way to get anywhere.

      @Skye 。 its sooo hard, i cant take myself serious dammit, I need to embrace it! Aaah and i wish i could take acting classes. A teacher who taught acting and singing had recommended me a book with tons of exercises and important information for singers. He told me that this book well might be what I am looking for, its not only for singers and actors but it also helps a lot if i want to be a voice over artist. Well i started the book, but i cant get over myself, its even worse when i start doing these vowel exercises where i read out short and long sentences with only the vowel "A" or "E". These funny sentences turn the recordings into a cringe fest hahahaa. But i really started to like voice acting in general

    • @sasaha8389
      @sasaha8389 3 роки тому +3

      @Skye 。 It's called "der kleine hey die kunst des sprechens" (Translated: "The little hey, the art of talking") from Fritz Reusch. If you live in germany its a very known book for actors, singers, dubbers and voice actors. very old book that became a standard here. I watched a few interviews of known voice actors here in germany and the funny thing is that they all recommend this. I don't know if it exists in other languages. If not then try to look for books in your language that are aimed for singers and voice education in general. Many books towards voice education and improvement have similar exercieses and aim towards this stuff like articulation, diaphragm breathing, voice resonance etc.

    Make sure when your a voice actor
    -Impressions help you BUT they are NOT acting/Voice acting
    -Maybe try to have the voice but make up your own words, that may help you a little bit
    I have done voice acting so i have to say, Focus on Voice Acting, make sure to maybe get your friends or family to listen to your voice acting, if you know what to improve ask some other people what they think, and maybe it can help you with what you need to improve.
    -Make sure to try to *feel* the emotions your character has, it will help you.

    • @animalavenger6133
      @animalavenger6133 4 роки тому +18

      Adding on to your last point "to feel the emotions"
      There are techniques by Konstantin Stanislavsky that goes over methods to remember past events of your life, where you would be able to use that emotion in the scene as a way to make it natural.

      Does reading something like Homestuck or Undertale count as an impression because they aren't your character or as voice acting because the characters don't have voices?

Delving in voice acting due to my love for acting I’ve noticed a lot of others doing impressions which I’m not very good at and I sometimes have felt insecure about it. But I remind myself that I can create my own voices and portray original characters using my own skills.

    Thank you , I needed to hear about being ok with your own voice and hear it.
    I am not interested in becoming a voice actor, BUT I do performances for cosplay contests, and its important to pre-record audio.... because let's face it..... working with a mic is frustrating and limiting and will cost in your overall performance. This is my first time recording my own voice since the character is from a PS2 game suikoden 3 and they didn't do voices back then that I can reuse.
    I hate my voice and have been teased and literally told that some people hated me for it throughout my life... even my mother told me she couldn't stand my voice..... but that is something I cannot really change. Its my voice. I am very self conscious, but this pep talk definitely gave me courage to just push through it. Its also comforting to know that even pros hate their own voice when they listen to it.

    Was _never_ allowed to hear my own voice for most of my life because of domineering family, and I’m still not incredibly comfortable with it. It was always being talked over or being told to shut up. I’d be too intimidated to speak, and that left me with an incredibly underdeveloped voice. I’m honestly so glad that this video exists, because I _want_ my voice back so that I can be able to pursue voice acting.

    I have done voice acting for characters in RPGs on my stream for years always trying to come up with ways to try different voices and get better. I hope that 8 years of it helped me improve, but in all the research I have done, not once did anyone mention to learn to master acting in your own voice. How did I miss this!?
    Thank you Connor, this was a big confidence boost. I plan to try and incorporate it into my video scripts.

    Hey there, CDaddy!!
    I was so happy that I got to join you guys on Twitch yesterday! I had to leave after that very emotional speech that Ciel made.. I was literally crying so hard! I wish I was actually there and got to see you guys in person because you guys are honestly the best and most kind people on UA-cam! But I have a dilemma... I really REALLY want to become a voice actor, just like you, but I have very very very bad stage fright... I love doing voice impressions, but I want to try something else 😊 I watched your video that you made on misinterpretations that people make about voice acting, and you said that you need to know how to act on a stage... I can't do that, but keep trying! If you have any tips or advice for me, then that would be greatly appreciated! I absolutely love the Black Butler series, and I'm looking forward to your next video!! Thanks so much!!

    Part of the problem with not liking (let alone mastering) our "natural voices" is that some of us have really bad speech impediments or stumble a lot or something like that. Maybe your next video can talk about that.

    • @CDawgVA
      @CDawgVA  7 років тому +3

      +The Otakutopian Yeah, I'm aware of this and honestly you can over come it or use it to your advantage you just have to have the drive and constantly practice.
      A VA I knew had an extremely strong lisp, he practiced a lot (like insane amount) and now when he voice acts you can't hear it
