Armin's scream is REALLY good. it gives me chills every time. perfectly captures the absolute terror one would feel in those situations in my opinion
The voice acting in AOT actually gives me an uncanny valley feeling because it's so good.
It doesn't seem like it should be coming out of an animated character.
It's dub is just overall really good, it sounds great and is directed very well
it is good. i mean if someone is dying i can see them screaming that way. but i laughed when i heard it. im sorry. there's something about it that sounds too cartoony
Absolutely. It sounds less like someone emulating an anime style and more like they were going method. That doesn't sound like a performance, it's just too damn visceral.

They actually asked Armin's VA (Joshua Grelle) to do the scream in the panel room and he explained that it was extremely difficult so when he tried to do it again it really hurt his throat.
I've met him too and he's such a nice guy.

I kinda liked the Sailor Moon one as well, it's her mind clearly talking to her in a blunt "oh... he was that guy all along" just in a robotic tone, was pretty funny.
She sounds fed up with herself like. How the hell did I not see this?

I never had a problem with the delivery either because to me it sounded like irritated and resigned disbelief.... like the kind of tone you have when you realize the solution to a puzzle was something super obvious but you didn't even consider it, which is pretty much what happened here.
Someone in the comments section of that clip said "This girl just realised that this guy she has a crush on has seen all of the dumb shit she's ever done" and I gotta say, along with everything else in this thread, I'm seeing, hearing and feeling it
@@Groovebot3k The problem with clips like that is a lot of people take them out of context or assume the comedy of the scene is somehow ironic, like "this sounds robotic, and that's funny because it's bad acting" instead of "this sounds intentionally robotic, and it's a funny reaction to the situation".
Armin’s scream made me so uncomfortable when I first heard it. Not uncomfortable in the way that it’s bad, but uncomfortable because it felt so real. Massive props to his voice actor

Id say it's more about that it sounds so different from what dub people expect from a scream. The armin scream sounds very much like what a Japanese voice actor would do instead of what people are used to in dubs.

true it is good but I feel the reason I personally feel its a bit weird(for armin) is because I am used to the Japanese voice of armin, it is just that the usual armin has a more high pitched voice and scream. but tbh the English armin sounds really good better than most dubs I heard it has the right emotion just lower pitched that what im used to hearing admin sound like

It just feels... Cringe. I just think that the female voice actress... Just does better. It sounds gutteral, without sounding cringy. Plus, Armin is regularly mistaken as a girl, so having a female voice actress sells that kind of girly attitude.

@David Ludwigs no, all mainstream movies have a voice actor per character and movies made originally in Poland also have different voice actors. There are definitely some movies that a random kid dubbed in their basement but that's the very small minority.
It's hard to believe that this is the same dude that dressed up in a cheap and overly-revealing Lucy heatfillia costume from China and made tinder accounts for anime charecters......
As painful as Accelerator's laugh is, it's perfectly in character.
I love his laugh, that’s how I found out about Toaru in the first place actually. I do feel bad for Okamoto Noubuhiko sometimes though between voicing Accel, Bakugo, and Ghiaccio, his throat must kill him sometimes. He did win the rookie seiyuu award for doing Accel though, so he must be proud.
I guess it sounds terrifying to the Japanese but if I heard a real-life psychopath laughing like that, I'd piss myself laughing.
@@i_will_not_elaborate Accelerator is not a psychopath and the laugh is intentional which is also part of his character. He is supposedly a self-claimed villain but mostly acts as an anti hero post Sisters arc in both Index and Railgun. The laugh is not supposed to sound menacing or terrifying, rather he just went full retard and idgaf mode before obliterating his preys.

@@i_will_not_elaborate It's not supposed to be serious. He laughs because he feels like it and it is supposed to show that he went nuts/overacting, not psychopathic. There is a different between the two. The character isn't a psychopath, rather he is a guy trying to act villainous, an anti hero. Also, in this scene he is actually talking and laughing at the same time which is why you hear him mumbling and screeching while he's laughing. Both Japanese and English VAs of the character have their strength and weaknesses, and it's not about how they laugh as Accelerator. With that said, I prefer Okamoto's take on the character more than Tindle's, as overall performances not just the laugh, but I feel the same for both dubs for Touma's VAs. I'm out.
It’s actually not that hard to do a fake laugh that sounds natural, I just imagine the returning of Lucifer to earth and the damnation that humanity is going to suffer for eternity while regretting that they didn’t repent their sins.

When you laugh naturally, it’s exactly that because something had happen beforehand. But, if you are voice acting and the script sounds says your character is laughing, it’s difficult to laugh on cue. If anything, you would need to imagine something hilarious for yourself to give that genuine laugh. AND without the laugh sounding fake or forced because that’s very easy to tell.
I don’t know if that’s what you’re referring to. Your wording is confusing.
M Rosé no I absolutely agree! I use to find it hard to laugh on cue @-@ it can get difficult. Especially when it requires different emotions (aka like an evil laugh can sound so fake. 😂) for me personally I don’t find it as hard as like getting angry or trying to act rude such and so forth. But we all have strengths and weaknesses and I absolutely understand where he was coming from.!

The voice actor for accelerator is actually really good, even the laughing there was not as great clips, it is even better the rest of the time. He plays a lot of roles and does great! Nobuhiko Okamoto is his name

Yeah I think the older Sailor Moon dub was pretty fun. They had slip ups here and there but my issue is more with the censoring, less the actors.
I'm super biased because I grew up with it, so it's nice to hear that others find it charming.
That "Bad scream" made me sick to my stomach, the hair on my arms shoot up. It was really good at portraying the utter horror of the scene

The "Hanzo Hisashi" clip is literally one of my favorite deliveries in all voice acting. Also that Armin scream is PERFECT. If it sounds bad to you, you've never heard a genuine scream in your life.

it’s got 3 games, Gunvolt 1-2 on the 3ds/switch.

As a Singaporean, I am proud that we have produced such a legendary dub of Yu-Gi-Oh. Really sets the standards for acting in our country.
Honestly, the quality of the voicework is pretty decent. Probably the best English voicework I've heard out of an SEA country, though my basis for comparison is shit like the Malaysian-English dub of DBZ so, you know.

I'm legitimately surprised that you didn't initially recognize Mark Hamill's voice in one of the last vids. His voice has a sinister ring to it that I can always identify, though I usually hear the Joker to some extent whenever his voice goes through my ears.
Great video though, definitely gave me a lot of laughs hearing your reaction to some of these (as well as just the "performances" themselves)! I lost it at the one where they said "don't boink him"...

@@steropeshu I did the exact same thing! Didn't even know which Anime Accelerator was from, but I was like "Yup, that's Nobuhiko Okamoto". So I only had to check the characters he voiced to figure out which Anime this scene was from.
