Braided jute twine soaked in candle wax works great too. Fluff it up and it takes a spark from a ferro rod

Great video. We might as well find alternate ways to start a fire. Ferro rods, magnesium, bow drill, hand drill. Just to keep the mind active. We cannot control the future. Lighters and ferro rods may not be readily available.

If you carry a high lumen flashlight, you can do this with all the lighter colored lighters. Simply hold the lighter at contact distance to the flashlight.

Literally just spent 2 hours looking for fatwood in a nearby forest, with no luck... I've found a few bit and pieces, with that same pine sap smell, but never anything as rich and dark as what you've found. Oh, well! I guess I'll just keep searching until I find something. 😅

I once again pulled the bic lighters out of my backpack and they would not work the flints/ ferro rods had corroded into a grey dust.I have been buying the cheap kind of square lighters with the see through plastic for decades because of this problem plus every time I put it in my pocket I can see how much butane is left. I don't trust bic lighters but the gas station was out of the scripto brand. Have you ever had this problem.

Cannot be too prepared! Good video. As a jungle monkey growing up in the East we also used birch bark. We had Itty bitty Ferro rods next to that log size one your using. Any links where you got the bigger ones. Additionally the video with the Ulu knife, where did you get the skeletonized one. I use a Knives of Alaska Ulu knife for 20 years plus. Their knives are so well balanced.
