It depends on where you live. I can go for a walk in any random section of woods around me and find more fat wood than I will ever need. It's just so prevalent where I live
@@mountainbond1743 I've got a really good eye for this kind of thing, I hunt, walking sticks, burls, and Spalted woods. I'll take time,, to find some "fat", but, don't care, just being alone in the bush is reward enough. May you continue to enjoy your bush, "boogies".
That piece of fatwood you wound up with could last 10 years or more, lighting a fire everyday. Use the scraper from your fero rod and get a little pile of "Maya Dust" the size of a quarter and hit it with a spark. Fire!! Brian from Survival on Purpose has been using the same piece of fatwood for about 10 years now, and still has some left. It lays on the ground in his backyard. The resin (Turpene) makes it waterproof. Thanks again. I enjoy your videos.
I used to use a hatchet, but after getting my Corona saw at Lowes I left the hatchet in the car. If you are not sure you have fatwood, just smell it. Fatwood smells just like Pinesol. Also, fatwood will not float in water. Sinks like a rock. But leave fatwood in water a week, take it out, and it will take a flame and burn right away. Amazing stuff, it is fun to find/harvest, and it is FREE! Thanks for a well done video.
Great video, thank you! I've been struggling to find any decent fatwood, just 1/4" around branches but not saturated. I laughed way too hard at your praying technique, tried it myself today in a new spot and it worked!! Nothing like the monster you found but on the right track! Thanks man amd God bless you! ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video and found it helpful. Sometimes you just gotta pray to the fatwood gods haha. I'm sure if you keep poking around you'll find one just as big if not bigger! Thanks for watching, and reaching out!! God bless!
Nice score! Beautiful chunk of golden goodness. Nice Corona saw. I see you hit 600, congrats. The fatwood Gods are proud. I enjoyed this. Gobble gobble. 🤘⚡💥🔥🔥🔥Keep it burning!
I love going to this forest close to the town where my grandparents live and all I ever found was a very small piece of it. Hopefully I will find some in the future.
I keep finding fatwood in pallets I sometimes have as a firewood, cutting them planks into short slabs and then shaving them with a hand plane set for thick shavings.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing, I wish I would’ve seen it sooner. Was out this pm looking for resin wood, aka fat wood. I found a couple of small pieces off some dead pine tree but nothing like your monster piece! I’ll definitely do the fat wood God call next time I’m out in the woods. You got a new subie…
I hope you end up finding some big pieces! Haha yah the fat wood god call always helps😂 I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching and subscribing 🙌
Great question! It seems that Pine trees in particular are the only ones where I've been able to find fatwood. Hope that helps🤙 and thanks for watching!!!
I've never understood how people struggle to find this stuff. Look for some dead trees. Gravity based low points. Look for dead pine, spruce trees. Search for sap covered end, cut. Tah dah You can even make your own if you're patient want to wait a handful of years
Once I've found a log that's 20 cm in diameter and 6m long. Me and my friend jaws just dropped. It was on small island on water reservoir. I've noticed lot of pine trees there have covered bark in resin.
Where I hunt there’s a bunch of pines that has a lot of dead branches at the base. I’ve been cutting them and collecting them. Spent 1 hour collecting fat wood instead of hunting. 😂
Lol, "fresh". Fat wood is everywhere that there are evergreen trees growing. Most of what I use is Douglas fir. You don't really have to look for it with fir, it finds you. Start gathering firewood , then you get that dang pitch on you and the fat wood is close by.
I don't see the point of your comment, their video showed how to find fatwood and it showed how easy it is to start on fire. The video set out to do exactly what it was supposed to and people in this comment section clearly learned. Just cuz you from the hills doesn't mean you got to act like it bud.
thanks for being honest, it’s a lot harder to find fat than most channel’s say
You bet! I got really lucky with that piece! Thanks for watching 🤙
Yeah unless you live around a ton of pine or spruce it’s not as common as on the UA-cam’s lol.
I found over 700 pieces of Fat Wood in a spand of 6 months time !
I was bringing home 5 to 30 pieces home each day I went out !
@@jimthomas1989you had a good spot! That’s freaking awesome man, I dream of that.😂

I've heard you can find it in some cedars and hardwoods.
@@GrumpyVet71 You definitely can find fatwood in cedar. The aroma of burning cedar is so pleasing.

Is there any such thing as slim wood?
I don’t think so haha
Oh man u got me drooling over here, id give u 100 bucks for that log.
Gonna use that prayer next time I head up for more pinon fatwood.
Beautiful chunk of gold!
Best shavings by using the sharp edge of your knive's spine.
I sharpen mine in a 90° angle to get a good scraper out of it.
I’ll try that out! Thanks for sharing!!! And thanks for watching 🤙
What kind of pine?

you found $100 worth of fat wood with that insane stick
So crazy!! I got really lucky with that one!
You're missing the best fatwood, You gotta dig up the roots, they're full of pitch.
I’ll be sure to get after the roots next time!
