Absolutely brilliant mate. You were very brave knocking those threads out. I wouldn’t have been game to do that. Very interesting to see how to polish the lenses. 👍
Lovely, all the way around. Loved the closeups during both disassembly and reassembly, you could clearly see what you were doing. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous item with us all.
Loving the Black Etching ink on brass idea. I've been hitting a wall for inspiration on a project I had on the back burner for a while, and your etching idea finally gave me inspiration on the next step to take. Thanks you very much! Cool video!!!
Thanks to your useful video, this klutz gathered enough know how and inspiration to clean up a pair of long neglected silver-plate Chevalier Paris glasses with family significance. No presences at restoration here! However, with your calm example, I was able to take the glasses apart, clean and polish the various metals with materials I had on hand, and (most importantly), put it all back together. I wouldn’t have had the nerve to tackle this without your video, but now our glasses look like something worth saving instead of a piece of junk. (Also, thanks to the comment suggesting using Barkeeper’s Friend. Perfect for my non-silver needs!)
Every time i watch a restoration video i expect to see the best way to restore the parts. Sometimes some materials like glass or old plastic require special attention and very few restorers get into trouble to do the needed research. You sir deserve a like for been one of the few, and show us professionalism in a very short video. Thank you!
To refer to this man's efforts as workmanship is an understatement. He is a craftsman and his work shows his high level of craftsmanship. Every piece he restores is a work of art. His videos are a delight to watch - and they are watched with envy. Well done and I look forward to seeing many more.
Tengo unos exactamente iguales, herencia de familia, en perfecto estado. Me alegra ver como se recuperan estas antiguas glorias. Seguro que a traves de sus lentes han visto pasar muchos acontecimientos. Buen trabajo. Saludos desde España. 🇪🇸
Wow... I have exactly the same binoculars. Only in the best condition and in a leather sheath. Made in Austria. My grandfather brought these binoculars from service in the Red Army in the 30s of the last century.
Seems like a simple job at first, but there was a lot of delicate parts to deal with. Great to learn about some of the substances you used as well. Thank you very much Mr. Patina 😊. 😎
I'm a fan of highly polished brass. When you said you were going to etch the brass I yelled in my head "Nooooooo!". But that was a great idea! Those glasses look incredible! Job well done!
Greetings from Petersburg! I can `t believe my eyes! Dude, you have not forgotten that you tamed us (not like someone from Switzerland, let's not point fingers at him). And now you must to please us always with your work. You now have binoculars, look how many of us there are. And we need your new works. And by the way, how are Mrs. Patina and Mr. Patina Jr.?
They look great I've always liked these for some reason. Even though I have had no use to use them though. You did an excellent job restoring them!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Wow great job. I was in Paris few weeks ago and purchased at flee market looks like same exact opera binoculars as those. I was wondering if u know what year they were made . Thank you
I'd almost call those swaged or flared together rather than press-fit, bold move to separate them! Interesting how the lenses each appear to be two parts, and are painted black around the outside rim. Huh, ink-etching, is that like cold-bluing but for brass instead of steel? Very similar effect. Quite the intricate little thing, nicely restored! Might have less of that fuzzy halo of reflected light around the outside of the viewing area if the inside of the main body was painted black, but otherwise well done!
I have a pair of these that belonged to my grandfather. They are in better condition than these were, but the leather on them has seen better days, but they are at least 100 years old. The leather pouch they were stored in has sadly had it, but I throughly enjoyed this
Absolutely brilliant mate. You were very brave knocking those threads out. I wouldn’t have been game to do that. Very interesting to see how to polish the lenses. 👍
Hey Mark, I was pretty nervous while doing that, and it worked pretty fine 😄

Hey man, thank you so much for your kind words! 🙂✌️
Great! Job! I’ve seen others use “clear wrap” to wrap the items.
Yes, I did as well but I ran out of clear wrap…😅
While I love the restorations I equally appreciate the humor you inject into your videos😂

Hey John, thanks you SO much for your kind words, I really appreciate!
My young son and I love watching your videos. He particularly enjoys the cat moments! 🙂
Haha, thanks Matt and greets to the son! ✌️
Those are so cool. I’ve never heard of ink etching until now! Nice job on the restore.
Why am I binge watching these at 2 a.m.? They're good, that's why. Relaxing, entertaining, unique.

Hey Brian, thanks man!
Great work! But I confess that watching those beautiful brass parts etching broke my heart
I feel you here, but I wanted to keep it original.
Looking down a reflective surface is suboptimal

Super-wonderful! ✌🏻🎨☕️
Thanks Susannah! 🙂
My Grandfather had a pair very similar that he had in the first world war . Could possibly run the threads on a tap . Very cool .
My grandad had the same in the trenches
… Wall-E's eyes. ¡Bravo!
Haha, thought about that all the time!
Amazing work restoring a piece with so many fine threads. Love it! You've got my sub.
Thanks my friend!
Great job! Next time, wrap the parts in Saran Wrap (Plastic) rather than aluminum foil, I think that will make you happy.
Just beautiful job 👏
Thanks!
Wonderful brother ❤️

У меня тоже есть точно такой же театральный бинокль. Надо будет его тоже отреставрировать для своего канала😁👍 отличная работа кстати.
Spasibo!
All that extra work yet it was most beautiful right after the wire brushing. RIP to is character
Wire brushing? These opera glasses were original blackened, so I did best to hold its character.
@@misterpatina didn't mean any offense honestly. It's all about personal preference, I just love the weathered antique look
@@Micheal-d7e hey, all good! Its always a personal preference like you said :-)
@@misterpatina you really do great work btw, you definitely are detailed
Absolutely awesome!! Those threads getting tapped out put me on the edge of my chair lol :) What opera are you going to with those?
Haha, thanks Martin! There’s only one opera - the 'Alte Oper Frankfurt' 🙂
I like the subscribe bit at the end👍🏻 actually I liked all of it very 👍🏻
Thanks! 🙂
