While I couldn't convince my husband to move to Alaska, we finally made the move to Montana last month and we love it. Watching you inspired me to make the move to a simpler and natural life!

can we all take a moment to realize and reflect how important containers are in homesteading situations. Where would this joyous couple be without the mason jar
For the first time in 64 years, I canned tomatoes this last summer. I ended up with 26 pints, and I've already gone through half of them! (And it's JUST November) Next year I'll need to buy more jars! A LOT more. 🤣
I saw one UA-camr use an immersion blender and completely incorporated all the skins and seeds so nothing was visible and made up whatever she decided: sauce, ketchup, salsa etc. Also dehydrated tomato skins make a fabulous tomato powder to add to soups etc and you can make tomato “paste” from it.
I have seen that also. I get the tomato powder but I wouldn't grind up the skins and seeds and leave them in the sauce. It changes the flavor and many suffer with heartburn and a few other things. I just don't like them left in. It is worth the extra steps to process. They did use the mill for the tomatos so I think it might have been all the peppers and other ingredients in the salsa.
It really changes the texture and flavour. It doesn't taste bad, and my favourite tomato soup is made with the seeds and skins on, but it's a lot of extra fibres.
The skins and the seeds have a chemical in them that make exacerbate arthritis & other joint pain. A little is fine, but a lot can really cause problems overtime. There is a reason they are extracted. I once thought that they add
I am amazed at your depth of knowledge on such a variety of topics-carpentry, machinery, cooking, wildlife and edibles, gardening. Are you completely self-taught? Just amazing!

When people ask me why I can my own food I just take them to my canning room or show them a picture and try to explain how satisfying it is to see all that food and know that, by the grace of God, I made that happen!! I don't have enough space to grow all the food I preserve, but when I am able to can something I grew it is an even more amazing feeling!!! I will never forget the 1st time we had a dinner where everything on the plate, but the meat which we do buy grass-fed meat in bulk when possible, was from my garden it was the most amazing feeling!!!!

It will save you a LOT of cook down time if you would drain the tomatoes after they thaw out. I do that too. Too much going in the summer sometimes so I wash cut and core the tomatoes and chuck them in the freezer till later. Draining them while they are still in chunks really helps. You can save and freeze the water you drain for vegetable soup stock or whatever...

Is there anything the two of you can't make? LOL You don't let anything go to waste. I think you two are amazing in all that you do. I knew you would treat us with a Dinner!
Man I just know that the meal and snacks the two show on camera looks so mouth watering and delicious. It seems that all the hard work in the garden this past summer has really provided great harvest for the winter months. With the snow setting in I'm one that is looking forward to all of your winter months adventures. Take care of each other and stay safe.
Your preseason preparations almost make winter welcome! Love the snow shots of your new leantos for your vehicles. Every shot shows the hard work and planning you put into your life in Alaska. Never knew how many things can actually be made at home or preserved. Amazing filming showing Arielle during the canning steps. Excellent vibes !
Something that might help you when cutting and peeling onions. Cut a lemon in half and rub it all over the side of the cutting board you're using. The lemon smell will draw the onion smell down. You'll never year up again. I've been doing that for years, never had an issue. The chips look like roti, before they're cut in fours. Still looks yummy.
As many as y’all process every year y’all almost need the industrial size one! It made our canning season fast, six cases of tomatoes strained in 30 minutes even with the second go round with peels!
Actually it doesn’t use that much power. Yeah they might have to get a bigger grinder but for as much as they put away every year it would be an awesome investment and give their smaller one a break just incase something ever happened and they need it in a pinch. But it’s whatever they’re most happy with and what works for them. I just know my parents love theirs cause we all put up so much every year. Can’t beat fresh taste I tell you that
@@michellesellars4241 I wouldnt know actually, I am far from living off grid so never had to bother with that kind of things. But I know if I had something that still works, I probably wouldnt buy a new one "just" for convenience. Im the kind of person that uses stuff way beyond their lifetime, reuses, repair as much as I can, repurpose, upcycle, recycle...it just kills me to throw things away or not use them anymore just because they're past their prime. (Im an old grandma inside a 31yo body :-D )
I completely get that. My parents are a little bit older and it just helps them process because we used to do it all by hand with a food mill. And they didn’t wanna give up something they love.
As a kid in 40's I remember all the physical investment of gardening & canning with mom & siblings outdoors. Loved all the good eating too! Thank you for bringing us along your lifes adventures. I look forward to this video every year! The first time I watched one y'all's canning videos it was such an inspiration and encouragement to me in my endeavors to grow and preserve my own food. Y'all really helped me to believe in myself. ❤️
This reminds me of when my grandparents made tomato juice & canned tomatoes out of their garden. They did it every year. Nothing even comes close to it, if you don't do it yourself. My favorite is to put them with some pasta & a little cubed up cheddar cheese. I really wish I could enjoy a bowl of it right now. They're too old to do all that work nowadays. I'll never forget how good they were though. I'm going to have to do this one day.
The first bite, Eric.....wow. That sounded heavenly 3813.8 miles away...😁 Arielle, I can see the labels on those salsa jars.. ILLIA'S BRAND SALSA So good, you'll see the Northern Lights.....anytime!! How about it ??.?.? In stores near you.😊 (We had our first frost this morning.)
Hi! I'm new here on Channel, sorry for my English because I'm Brazilian, and I don't speak fluent English, Here I make tomato sauce for storage, roasting the ingredients! I cut tomatoes, onions, carrots (1 or 2) a very small beetroot, garlic and bake it in the oven, it will dehydrate and cook, then just crush or process and store in the jars! Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of your life!
The chickens got a good treat, but dehydrating the tomato pulp makes a fantastic seasoning. Dehydrate and grind to a powder for great tomato flavoring sprinkles.
You guys are the perfect role models and examples for the dreams I’ve always wanted for my life! WOW did that look good!!!!! It's near dinner time and that was killing me. The snow shot's in the beginning were fantastic too. You really had a great tomato crop this year, when you were pulling them in out of the tunnel I was surprised at how many you got. Looked like more than double than last year. Looking forward to the next segment already!

Love your vids. Brings back so many wonderful memories from my youth. I remember we had the most incredible dog, his name was Skookum. 125 pound Makenzie river Husky black Lab mix. Best dog that ever lived. Sorry but Bo and Bandit would agree. He would have been Bo and Bandit's best friend for sure. He was the uber alfa dog, bred with wolves, took down moose in deep snow, bla, bla. Saved my life from a charging (not a false) cow moose protecting her calf. N.S. She would have stomped me into mush if not for him. How many people can say that? What I remember most as a young teen was checking my trapline after school in the dark with Skook. He always had to come along at his insistence, but complained the whole way about the cold. Other than his whimpering there was the hush. The silence of the deep woods. 3 feet of snow on the spruces as I trudged along on my 5 foot long bentwood snowshoes. 25 degrees below zero. Fond, fond memories. Sparkley. Crunchy. Even a little spooky. Rabbit creek valley, in the shadow of Flattop mt. n.e. of Anchorage Alaska, 1970-1975. I was 12-17 years old. Used victor leg holds and Thompson deadfall snares. In adulthood I also used conabear 330s. You share so I share. I hope that I am not boring you.
Another fantastic video. Strange what you in USA / Canada call Salsa in UK / Europe that would be pasta sauce and the tomato sauce would be passata. Salsa here is much chunkier with chunky whole chopped tomatoes & onions chilli garlic not cooked just bottled and water bathed. Good too see how different countries do it their own way. 👏👍
The fire in the wood stove, the wood crackling and snapping, somehow make it seem so cozy in your cabin. I remember canning tomatoes and making juice to can with my mom many years ago. But we used the old fashioned Foley food mill to do our juice straining. The chickens will love the left over skins.
True subsistence living...you two are really making it. Reminds me of my great grandparents. Really admire all the hard work and what you've accomplished.
I could smell and taste Mom's Chili Sauce! Okay, you're not making Chili Sauce but I'm salivating anyway. I was surprised at how my mouth reacted to this video. It's cold outside and the fragrant warmth of your home is permeating my senses! Thank you! AND, I've already had dinner!
I enjoy your videos of gardening, fishing, processing, cooking, projects and trips. I happened to watch some of your videos from 3 years ago when you moved to Alaska. Your video production quality has gotten so much better. Much better talking to the camera. Keep up the good work. Now I need to go eat chips and salsa.

You have a wonderful winter to look forward to and enjoy; God bless you both!! 💖 (Just love the snow at the beginning of the video - so lovely!!)
The 2022 calendar is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your beautiful lives with us!!
Love how you use the “cooler” outside to bring the temp down on the cooked tomatoes 👍👍
The sauce and salsa look great 😋🤤
Is there anything the two of you can't make? LOL You don't let anything go to waste. I think you two are amazing in all that you do. I knew you would treat us with a Dinner!
Man I just know that the meal and snacks the two show on camera looks so mouth watering and delicious. It seems that all the hard work in the garden this past summer has really provided great harvest for the winter months. With the snow setting in I'm one that is looking forward to all of your winter months adventures. Take care of each other and stay safe.
the cinematography of this video was actually fantastic. So smooth and relaxing
Your preseason preparations almost make winter welcome! Love the snow shots of your
new leantos for your vehicles. Every shot shows the hard work and planning you put into your
life in Alaska. Never knew how many things can actually be made at home or preserved. Amazing filming showing Arielle during the canning steps. Excellent vibes !
I love how your chickens have such a varied diet. I bet those are some happy chickens.
The price of lemons in Canada makes cry as much as the onions! He he
I will try this. I'm in complete crisis each time I chop onions. 😄
Not breathing through your nose and very sharp knives also helps.
Light a candle
There's NOTHING like canning! It is work, but oh so worth it in the end.
As many as y’all process every year y’all almost need the industrial size one! It made our canning season fast, six cases of tomatoes strained in 30 minutes even with the second go round with peels!
Maybe it would be too much to handle for their electric system?
Your property investments will do you well for future. You are amazing as ONE, beautiful are the feet of them who bring good news...
We can sauce every year so know how much effort you put into this project but the end result is so worth it. Thanks for sharing!!!
OK I'm addicted to your vignettes. I can see why you are hovering on half a million subscribers. Thanks for the video.
Just made my morning at work better seeing this, thank you 😁
Can't wait to get our garden produce this year.
I just received my new calendar and I am blown away by the photography. This is the best calendar I've had in years Thank You
Nothing better to go with lunch than a notification of a new video from my favorite Alaskans!!! gonna check it out!! As always Be safe!!!....Had to edit to say I was jealous cuz my lunch sucked woulda rather been eating all those HOMEMADE chips and salsa🙂🙂
I gotta tell you I've been binge watching you two for the pass two weeks. I could do that because I'm a retired NYC Transit Conductor. And if I had my youth and an on board wife I would be out there also. I know it's hard work but , growing and hunting for you survival is the way it was long ago. We're to dependent on a fragile system. Your two make a great team , give the dogs a good belly rub for me and the cat also..be safe and God bless you.
Yessss!! Always love the canning vids. Can’t wait to watch.
We live off grid in Australia and you guys are by far our favourite go to UA-camrs for ideas and advice thank you for sharing your life it’s an inspiration
ILLIA'S BRAND SALSA
So good, you'll see the Northern Lights.....anytime!!
How about it ??.?.?
In stores near you.😊
(We had our first frost this morning.)
Thank you, Lord, for the food we are about to eat...with our eyes! 🤤
So exciting to see all your hard work come to fruition!! Amazing cinematography 💜✨
That is such a neat idea 😃
That’s what I was thinking! I powder it up after dehydrating and then make it a powder. Use it in my soups.
The chickens didn't look impressed with the offering...
You guys are the perfect role models and examples for the dreams I’ve always wanted for my life! I want nothing more than to be a homesteader and be self-sufficient in a world where everything is readily available to us. I’ve been working my butt off to get to this point but it seems like I will never get there, some days. I love watching your videos for inspiration. Thank you for showing people another side to life!! 😌💜
UK loving the vids..
Get ready for cold winter I feel..
But don't stress over utube vids. We are all watching and enjoying 😉😎 your great videos.. keep warm and we hope all the canning foods keep you warm throughout the next few winter months... 😀😃🙂
Awesome landscape. Great way to work your tomatoes.
I have been watching you guys for about 2 weeks now, I am so impressed with what you are doing over there, I am in Australia so seeing 2 young people living the way you do is awesome. Hopefully one day you might bring people over to stay then I could get to Alaska
Love watching you guys preparing for winter
Hello! I'm a Brit who's currently living in the tiniest flat in Paris, France so whilst I can't live out my dreams of this lifestyle at the moment - I must admit that I really enjoy these sorts of videos with short little tidbits and tips that I can use in my current lifestyle and dream of a better future. Thank you so much for your videos, they really inspire me (and I'm sure many others). So excited to see what else you have to share (also don't know if you've changed cameras or something, but it seems that each video keeps getting more and more cinematic - I'm loving it!)
Something oddly satisfying about grinding food. Damn those chips and salsa looked amazing, pretty sure I'd crush that whole plate. Awesome vid, love mater sauce and salsa!!!
Can't believe how snowy it is there already. Here in Florida I'm just glad it didn't hit 80° today. I miss the seasons, I'm glad you guys share so I can artificially experience some form of winter.
Outstanding channel, I recently found you guys and I’m enjoying your videos especially the ones on canning and gardening. Glad you two are well prepared for the up coming winter. seems like it’s going to be a long cold one. Your home looks great very nice remodel. It seems you guys have things well in hand. Blessings Rik
Awe. Beautiful.
If you cut the root off the onion 🌰 last you'll never cry. A chef taught me that
cutting onions is always a tearful event for me i like to use a damp rag to help aid with that though. thank you for the videos
If you leave the root end on till you've finished peeling and/or cutting them they won't make you cry.
That snow is so beautiful, peaceful! All of your canning looks lovely, and of course DELICIOUS! Thanks for sharing❤✌
Hi Patti.
In the USA there are several different ways to make salsa. We do have a chunky version and also a blended version.
The fire in the wood stove, the wood crackling and snapping, somehow make it seem so cozy in your cabin.
I remember canning tomatoes and making juice to can with my mom many years ago. But we used the old fashioned Foley food mill to do our juice straining. The chickens will love the left over skins.
hope you're able to get some good photos of the Aurora Borealis
True subsistence living...you two are really making it. Reminds me of my great grandparents. Really admire all the hard work and what you've accomplished.
You double dipping?
That’s a no no for George Costanza 😂😂
Tasting off the spoon and putting it back into the pot, that’s double dipping extreme style 🤮
Laying in bed sick as a dog, and this video pops up !! This has truly made my day 💙
Your chickens sound so contented. Just gentle chicken sounds. No squawking.
Such a beautiful winter wonderland ❄️
Have been binge-Watching from South Africa... with fans and aircon on full blast... Hope you stay safe and warm.
So wish I had someone to live like this with.
Yes. I agree. Their earlier videos they seemed more rushed. I enjoy the normal paced taking to the camera. They’d seem a lot more comfortable now
You must have the most healthy chickens possible. They also live a dreamlive in this magical Alaskan world of yours. 🧚♀️🐓❄
Peace and love to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ!!! I have watched you and your lady over the last several hours... his peace and love to you!!
The intro to the video was simply amazing!!!!! You two are so blessed to live in such a peaceful and serene place such as Alaska!!!!!! Blessings!!!!
I ❤️ the teamwork! U 2 represent the meaning of teamwork, partnership etc- you are both invested 110% in your future together. Everyone should be so lucky to be paired with their soulmate, the world would be a better place. Ive always believed 'Idle hands are the Devils workshop' and you two represent that working your homestead/nature keeps the body healthy, the mind ever-learning & too busy for mischief. You both make the world a better place, in all ways. ❤️
Thanks for the visions of a winter wonderland, I love snow I could sit and watch it all day, it's the shoveling I don't like to 😁 I hope that you got the package I sent you
