It is a shame how the excellence of Soundgarden was never truly celebrated like Nirvana and others of their contemporaries. Not saying those of us that knew of them didn’t trumpet their greatness, but MTV only really played two other songs of theirs outside of this video, Spoonman and Rusty Cage.

Yeah I gotta feeling you’re gonna love Soundgarden. Another band you really need to hear from this era is Stone Temple Pilots. Do Interstate Love Song,Wicked Garden, or Plush first.
Soundgarden is actually a band that got their start in the early 80's. They were the original Grunge. They were Grunge before Grunge. Most people didn't know about them until the 90's.
Now, a lot of those guys had side projects and even worked together. Temple of the Dog, “ Say Hello to Heaven” for Chris. MAD SEASON for Layne. Eddie and Chris sang together on Hunger Strike for Temple of the Dog.
And yes, the 90s were so blessed with Chris Cornell, Andrew Wood, Layne Staley & Kurt Cobain. All gone now. Fly high & forever guys. You are missed. 🌈🦋🦋🦋🏵️
This song is okay. Slaves and Bulldozers, Outshined, Spoonman, Burden in My Hand, Jesus Christ Pose, Rusty Cage, Fell on Black Days, The Day I Tried to Live, Like Suicide. Burden in My Hand
Layne and Chris Cornell did a song together called "Right Turn". Two of the best singers of their generation if not of all time. I will go with all time.. I really wish they were here to collaborate more. Their voices were so versatile they could have sang any genre
Glad you’ve started listening to Soundgarden. Personally it’s not the track I would have recommended, but it’s a start. Can’t wait for you to discover Stone Temple Pilots too! 😎
To fully appreciate his voice I suggest "Spoonman", "The day I tried to live", well... many more..., especially from this album "Superunknown". I think someone will probably suggest you also the band "Stone Temple Pilots", my favorite album is "Purple" especially the songs "Army ants" and "Silvergun superman"
@nathanlandry1016 if you actually analyse the chord progression you'll see the uniqueness and genius that Chris Cornell actually was. No other individual could write such melodic harmony.
You mentioned Audioslave. Chris demonstrates his power in the song Cochise. They burst onto the scene with that song, great filmclip too. Also check out his accoustic version of Nothing Compares To You, that gives you a sense of how good a singer he was.
I almost thought it was a dream when I saw the lineup tonight, Soundgarden..Black Hole Sun, and AIC... Nutshell. Wow..just Wow. I bet both are already on the playlist and being repeated right now, in the new Merc ( kind of like being inside your very own Black Hole Sun).
Great reaction bro. You definitely gotta check out some of their older, heavier stuff like Outshined & Rusted Cage. Also check out Temple of the Dog, Chris' side project. They made a fairly popular tune called Hunger Strike that features Eddie Vedder the lead singer of Pearl Jam. Good luck on your rock journey dude 🤘
Chris sounded great when he did acoustic covers like "Nothing compares to you" and "Thank You".....his voice is amazingly bluesy....hope you can hit those at some point. 🤘
This was THE song that opened the door for me to anything that wasn't classical, jazz or classic rock. And boy, what a slippery slope that was. RIP Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell was and is a legend! Has some amazing solo stuff too but you must check out the group Audioslave- Chris on vocals fronting Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford- all from Rage Against the Machine. Cochise, Show me how to live, Like a Stone are good to start with.
Dope reaction bro as always. Chris Cornell is one of the greatest vocalists of all time, Soundgarden is an iconic and influential band. R.I.P Chris. 🙏❤
SG lived in minor key, and they made it work their entire career. Stuff you'd never think would catch your ear....they had a gift. The drop D signature was a trademark of much of grunge in its heyday. Their music only gets better over time. This song is kind of looked at as the Sgt. Peppers of the grunge era. Dave Grohl describes hearing it for the first time and being blown away.
I, like many others, have been pestering you to do some Soundgarden for a while now. So first of all, thank you for this. I hope you liked it. Secondly, yes they are a band that has lots of different sounding songs and Chris Cornell has an incredible range in his vocals. Heavier stuff from their earlier days is well worth checking out...Outshined, Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose, Birth Ritual, just to name a few. Hope you can get to some of those!
Fell on Black Days (not the official video version imo) is a MUST!! And of course Audioslave. Can't wait for your Nutshell reaction in a bit. Happy Friday 😎
Love Soundgarden, but his other project Audioslave I love even more. "Like a Stone", "Show Me How to Live", "Cochise", "I Am the Highway". Just great stuff!
You'll doubtless get loads of recommendations now for more Soundgarden and Audioslave, and rightly so. But, if you fancy something a bit different, im a big fan of the song "You know my name" by Chris Cornell. It was the official bond song for 2006s Casino Royal and in my opinion, the best bond song ever. Yeah as a rock and Chris fan im bias, but seriously, its well worth a listen and kickstarted the (then) new era of Daniel Craigs bond perfectly.
Soundgarden is great. Saw them at Lallpalooza 1996. Rockingham NC. Metallica, Ramones, Screaming Trees, Rancid, and Rage Against The Machine were there too. It was so freaking hot that day.
Soundgarden was my favorite of the Grunge bands back in the day because of Chris Cornell. If you're interested, check out his non-Soungarden live acoustic studio performance with a cello and another guitarist of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U. He was older but his voice was just killer and it was an amazing performance.
In 1992 i got to hear two of the best voices In rock when Soundgarden and Faith No More played at Wembley. Both Chris Cornell and Mike Patton have incredible range. Patton is a bit of a vocal gymnast and sings many genres rather than just rock. RIP Chris Cornell
Chris had the voice of a lion. On Audioslave's first album, he really tested the bounds of his talent and very likely destroyed his chords. He did it for us.
He did at first in the 80's. One of hollywoods most talented voice coaches helped him (and Vedder) hone their voices. You know in "When bad does good" he does refer to himself as a lion 🦁
You are going to LOOOOOVE Soundgarden. You haben't even heard anything yet. Love this song, the meaning & the feel. Yeah. SG has a deep catalog & it's all fire!
First time huh? Rock n Roll Jesus on the mic... Cornell's solo stuff and side projects are good too. Check out the song Rusty Cage on the first album whenever you get the chance. Good Job! Glad you finally heard Frayed Ends of Sanity. 👍😎
This is the directors remix of this music video - has added cgi elements vs the original music video! Also if you listen carefully to the background vocals when Chris sings 'black hole sun, won't you come' you can hear him screaming in several voices in the background saying 'won't you come'! Soundgarden - Slaves and Bulldozers!!! The final Soundgarden album will be released later this year!
Best Soundgarden songs in my opinion are 'Outshined' and 'Fell On Black Days'. Check those out and you can't go wrong my friend. Guaranteed bangers. By the way, I liked your idea you mentioned in the Creeping Death video that you might react to full albums. I'm sure we'll all have a bunch of suggestions for you! Mine would be Pantera's "Vulgar Display Of Power" or The Red Hot Chili Peppers "Blood Sugar Sex Magik". The following is a lot to read, but bear with me. As an obsessive Metallica fan all my life, I just wanted to give you a bit of a heads up: I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this to you man, but with Metallica not all their albums are of equal quality. So the first five (Kill 'em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All, "Black" Album) are basically masterpieces from start to finish. Then they got a bit blindsided by Grunge and put out two alternative hard rock albums in the 90s (Load & Reload) which have some awesome tracks on them, but also some filler. Then at the end of the 90s the band kind of fell apart, the bass player quit (because they treated him like garbage) and in 2003 they did a kind of Nu Metal record called St Anger which is notorious for having a horrible drum sound and only a couple of ok songs. Then they did Death Magnetic, which is a lot better record, but was mastered poorly and is compressed to hell. Then they collaborated with Lou Reed for an experimental jam session called Lulu - please NEVER listen to it, it's literally the worst recording of anything ever released (not exaggerating), and it's not really an official Metallica release anyway. Then they put out Hardwired to Self Destruct, which is a much better album, but still is a bit bloated. And their new one 72 Seasons is better still, but again still not up to the quality of their early stuff. So basically, anything pre 1992 is absolute gold; 90s & 2000s is very patchy. And I don't think too many people would disagree with most of what I wrote. If you come across a Metallica track that doesn't seem to have quite the same magic to it, you'll know why. And finally, they did a live concert in 1989, (live in Seattle - it's all over UA-cam in high quality sound & video) at the peak of their powers, which is one of the greatest live concerts ever filmed. If you reacted to the entire thing, even if you release the songs separately, I reckon you'll not only be blown away but you'll get lots of views because everyone loves that show. They also did a couple of live records with a symphony orchestra which aren't too bad, and they also released a covers record called Garage Inc which is great. Stand out tracks are their version of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey In A Jar" and their medley of Mercyful Fate songs, as well as their cover of Black Sabbath's "Sabbra Cadabra". That's all. Take it easy.
Since I started watching your videos I have seen such a great change in you my guy. It thrills me to see how excited you get watching a new video. And I really like that you’re open minded to take on this challenge that is in turn making you a metal fan. I applaud you brother.
Rusty Cage will give you goosebumps from the opening riff!! Also awesome are My Wave-Mailman-Mind Riot-Drawing Flies-Rhinosaur. Mellow songs like Pretty Noose, Switch Opens and 4th of July can’t miss either. All Soundgarden tunes are rifftastic as you’re about to hear. Keep rocking! 🤘
Chris Cornell had quite the evolution as a vocalist. He started on the drums and in his early singing you hear the Zeppelin cover band work he did influencing his vocals. He was very screamy in the beginning, then Rock and Blues-y in the grunge era, then more soul and R&B later in his career. Exceptional vocal agility and control. I still prefer Layne because Layne makes me feel more, but Cornell's voice is gorgeous. Definitely constrast something like Slaves and Bulldozers to Outshinned to Seasons to Burden in My Hand to Like a Stone. Seasons.. Seasons is a song that if you want to experience the magic of Cornell in terms of being a singer songwriter.. that's the one. Up there with Mayonnaise by the Smashing Pumpkins for one of those absolute lonely afternoon vibe songs.
Beyond the Wheel live (Badmotorvision) is one of the most insane vocal performances ever. A good one to check out if you want to see what Chris could do.
Chris Cornell is the man. One of the pillars of the grunge era. From Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, to Audioslave, and all his solo stuff. All incredible pieces of music. Definitely check out his song “Seasons”.
Grunge is an era not a genre so it's natural for you to feel they all have their own unique sound. For me this band after Alice in Chains is my favorite from that era. So many bangers and Cornell was such an amazing singer, Layne still gets #1 for me but Chris goes almost as hard.
I'm glad you brought this up because in the late 80s early 90s there was Hard Rock, Alternative Rock, Pop Rock and Southern Rock. It wasn't until the Post-Grunge era that everybody started labeling every type of rock from the 90s as Grunge.
With the older Soundgarden songs, you will find Cornell slowly discovering that he had more to offer than the typical hard rock voice. For me, Black holed sun was a perfect place to start your Cornell journey. He is confident enough in his voice by this point not to have to scream for us to be wowed by him. Early ones like Rusty Cage you hear the promise of his future excellence.
This is one of my top 5 favourite songs of all time, it's an absolute masterpiece, and I'm so happy you enjoyed it, if you'd like to do more Soundgarden, Rusty Cage is another banger
Soundgarden is very mystical. Nirvana is chaotic. Pearl Jam, folksy. All the grunge staples carved out their own kingdoms, which they could do because there were so few of them. Hopefully someone turns you on to the others at some point too. Stone Temple Pilots, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, etc.
Great reaction! This is one among many great songs by Chris Cornell “Seasons” is probably my favorite, followed by “Outshined” and “Spoonman” but the list goes on. I saw him as part of Audioslave in 2003. Great performer. RIP, Chris 😢
My brother , just in case you don’t know of this, the lead singer (Cornell) was in another group called Audioslave . It’s the band from RageAgainstTheMachine , but with this lead singer. They have some BANGERS brother. (Especially the tracks Like a Stone & show me how to live )

Pearl Jam connection is there as well ,drummer Matt Cameron, in both Soundgarden and PJ.
I loved Chris's vocals when he was in Audioslave - song & video: COCHISE!! SO GOOD!!! RIP, CHRIS - you are sorely missed, Sir!!
It`s impossible for me to listen Chris singing and not cry. Whata soul. RIP
Lots more to explore with Chris Cornell. More Soundgarden, Audiislave, and his solo stuff
Beyond the Wheel live Düsseldorf Will blow your mind !!!
Badmotorfinger Will blow your mind...total "must" to hear It!
Beyond the Wheel live (Badmotorvision) is one of the most insane vocal performances ever. A good one to check out if you want to see what Chris could do.
YESSS!!!
🤘
Chris Cornell is the man. One of the pillars of the grunge era. From Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, to Audioslave, and all his solo stuff. All incredible pieces of music. Definitely check out his song “Seasons”.
Rusty cage.. 'im gonna Break ny rusty cage!! And run! RIP Chris
Chris has probably the most electric super charged voice in the industry, ever!
Temple Of The Dog and Audioslave are other bands Chris Cornell are in as well. Must do more Soundgarden ❤
The BIG 4 core of Grunge Nirvana, AIC, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden....they are the 4 that were the initial Grunge movement!
great band, I recommend the album badmotorfinger, and louder than love. they are the best.
Soundgarden is a different animal. This was the point they moved from alternative-grunge to pop-grunge.
The day I tried to live, Outshined , Burden in my hand, etc. Soundgarden were from another level and so were/are Chris's vocals
Bro. Mastodon. You will not be disappointed. Heavy, great vocals, insane drumming and tons of riff changes.
Here to second this. Mastodon are FUCKING AMAZING
Grunge is melancholy with that Distinct Edge.
Btw the singer of Linkin Park was friends with him and took his life on Chris Cornell's birthday about 2 months after he took his life.
😢
They were screwacided
My brother , just in case you don’t know of this, the lead singer (Cornell) was in another group called Audioslave . It’s the band from RageAgainstTheMachine , but with this lead singer. They have some BANGERS brother. (Especially the tracks Like a Stone & show me how to live )
Rusty Cage was dope
Slaves and Bulldozers gives you the true range of Chris💚
Do temple of the dog - Hunger strike
By chris cornell and eddie vader
I hope you can also react to 4th of July from Soundgarden as well, I'm sure you'll love it, honestly, one of the band's best and most underrated songs.
Your reactions are awesome! Thank you for touching up your nails. It was driving me crazy in the last one, but it reminded me to touch up my black nail polish!
😂 Maybe my favourite comment 👌
@@brianjohnston5221 I love this channel. In spite of the fact that he bears a striking resemblance to my own son whose favorite band is currently the Red Hot chili peppers. There is an incredible energy in watching someone discovering the music that you grew up with
@@marysampietro2359 musical bond with your child is precious . I had it with my father and now with my daughter ❤
You gotta do, OUTSHINED. YOU will love it.
Fell on Black Days shoulda been first.
I highly recommend you make it your Next Soundgarden reaction. It's their Best hit, bro.
Soundgarden - Fell on Black Days. Audioslave - Show Me How to Live.
