    I bought the Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo some days ago. What I didn’t know at the time was my MacBook Pro M1 won’t run two screens. I have my M1 linked to the Neo through a CalDigit TS4 dock. I have heard that if I get the Dell dock and install the relevant software on my MacBook, I can connect it to the second Thunderbolt outlet on my Mac, use an HDMI cable from Dell to monitor to get that second screen. Do you know if this would work. Can’t send the CalD back as I’ve had it for over two weeks (outside the return window here in Germany). I would really like to run both docks parallel but am also worried about connecting two powered docks to my Mac. Please advise 🙏

      Sorry to hear that, I did some quick research as a friend of mine has the Macbook M1 Pro and is able to run two screens but reading the apple website here: support.apple.com/en-afri/HT202351 it does seem you are correct that one comes from the Thunderbolt connector and the other through HDMI, but my friend has the official Apple thunderbolt adapter which gives a USB and HDMI port.
      That may be the better route to go so you know it's supported by Apple and then use another dock for additional ports. If you contact Apple support as well they may even know, I unfortunately am not an Apple user so I can't say for sure but I know there are sometimes little snags where you have to use their specific setup.

      It functions as a USB Type C port as well, so you can use multiple devices that use that port to plug in. I use it to charge my Google Pixel currently.

    Nice unboxing! QQ, does this dock works with all different laptop brands? Thank!

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      It will work with all brands, it will even work on a MacBook. Most features should work just fine. You may have some limitations, for example for the charging to work from the USB Type-C/Thunderbolt cable, the laptop has to support it and has to be within the charging rating. They are great docking stations.

    If the dock does not have its power brick plugged in, will it draw power from the laptop and supply to the downstream ports?

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому +1

      No the deck requires power, it will send power to the laptop (if supported) through the USB Type C, so in my case I just plug in the dock and the laptop doesn't need power as it gets it from the dock. But the dock requires power and will not draw it from the laptop, there are smaller docks that will operate that way but not this one.

    hi if my laptop is having type c/ displayport can it be posible to connect to this Thunderbolt dock?

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      It should work just fine, although it will only charge your laptop if your laptop supports it and the power button on the dock only works with Dell XPS laptops to my knowledge, but the dock itself should work just fine.

    Can you connect speakers to that usb-c port? (my speakers use usb c)

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому +1

      If it's all USB-C and doesn't use the 1/4" audio plug they should work since it has a USB-C port on it. I don't have a pair of external speakers though, I use a Bluetooth speaker.

    Did you have any issues connecting this to 3 screens? I've seen some people saying that it only duplicates the screens to 3 monitors and doesn't actually "extend" them.

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  2 роки тому +2

      I was able to connect and extend 3 screens, 2 on the display port and 1 on the HDMI on the dock, plus the laptop screen itself (so technically 4 extended monitors). The issue some people may be having is probably related to the graphics card, you will need dedicated graphics to get that 3 monitor extended.

    Can you verify if the dock is able to provide higher refresh rate for higher fps 2k external monitors - via that thunderbolt . All it says everywhere is 60fps 4k , but I am not so sure about the refresh rate it can give for 2k and FHD external monitors.

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      Best I can tell according to Dell's site is it is max 60fps regardless of resolution www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-ca/dell-wd19tb-dock/wd19_tb_userguide/display-resolution-table?guid=guid-5558fc88-5c31-4e2c-90be-42359855a1ae&lang=en-us
      May I ask the need for more than 60fps? Gaming or do you just have some nice monitors with high refresh?

    Nice video, how do you connect audio output to speakers?

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      It does not have a 3.5mm jack so you would need to do something like blue tooth or possibly an adapter. On my one setup I use bluetooth speakers and on my other just the speakers in the laptop.

    Question....
    Can you still use this dock without power? Like as a by pass to split to monitors.

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      No the dock requires power to function in any capacity. If you are looking to split monitors and have the same image on both screens you can get an HDMI splitter for $20. But if you are wanting to extend your screens (having different things on both screens) you need a powered dock that can handle that or a graphics card on your computer with multiple monitor outputs.

      @@Techtipguru thanks. Yea I keep getting mixed answers. Basically it's a paper weight. I received this dock from someone without the power cable and thought maybe since I'm not powering monitors or laptops off it then maybe I can use it to just hub the display ports from my source to monitors atleast. I'm even trying a Dell plug I do have knowing it's not enough power as requested of the original. But it does charge up things but that's not my intension

    Have you heard anything about using this with a MacBook Pro M1 and Ultrawide screen? My problem is my MacBook doesn't support two screens. My Samsung G9 Odysee Neo is 49", in effect, two 27" screens in one. I came across a possible solution from a UA-camr who used the Dell D6000, however on two separate external monitors. Remains to be seen whether the Samsung will be nice to me and allow the feed to the HDMI and Display Port, giving me two screens to work with. Nicer would be not having my MacBook in clamshell config and being able to use that screen too. Would be good to get your feedback 🙏

    • @Techtipguru
      @Techtipguru  Рік тому

      I am not sure with the Ultrawide. I have a friend who uses the Macbook Pro M1 with two monitors and the dell dock, works just fine but not sure what happens on that specific monitor, I've actually never tried pushing two unique screens to an ultrawide, sounds cool the perfect, seamless, dual monitor setup. But cannot confirm, I would imagine that's more of a detail on what the Samsung monitor supports, if it's built to allow two unique inputs and split them the way you mention I would think it should work as the Mac and Dock is just expecting to output two signals it's more of it the monitor is designed to show those both on one screen.

    • @Techtipguru

      This specific dock requires type C, some of them have USB adapters and can work with the class USB type but does not have all the features. Most docks use type-c now but if your laptop does have it, you can look at adapters that support the USB type a like this amzn.to/3WgflP6

      It should work fine, I have a friend that uses one on a MacBook and an Acer, the only feature that may not work are things like the power button to remote turn on the laptop but the dock ports and displays should work perfectly fine, as long as the laptop has support for it (ie: multiple display support)
