Your example of how a narcissist behaves when people are watching their response is perfect. They don't have empathy.

My ex is a mental health nurse and when I learned about NPD I couldn’t believe how much that described him and I felt for the first time there was an explanation for how he acted and I wasn’t crazy after all. I literally cried. Being divorced almost a year now and going through EMDR therapy. I am healing and processing into the real me that was suppressed during 32 years of marriage to a full fledge narcissist. I believe he has seven of the nine traits on the spectrum.

Reading your comment really hit home. I'm glad that you were able to find a way out and are healing now.
I've been married to my narc husband for 21 years and we've been together for 30 years total... he was 16 and I was 19 yrs old when we met.
After years of me researching what was going on, why he is the way he is, I finally realized I was with a sadistic narcissist with secondary psychopathy. I believe he has 8 out of the 9
      traits on the DSM spectrum.
I am stuck because he is financially abusive, not allowing me any money at all. I have to beg for every penny as well as tell him why I need that amount, for what. He then goes into his speech (made up) "I just gave you X amount two weeks ago what happened to all that?" In thinking "what? you haven't given me *any* money in at least 3 months." He always turns it into such a huge
ordeal that I wait until I absolutely *must* have some money for my bare essentials.
I am stuck. I can't leave without money, I can't imagine how I can leave being penniless. He knows he has me over a barrel, it's his only way of controlling me.
I've had it with him and just can't imagine wasting this next part of my life with him.
I envy you that you escaped. I'm so glad you did!

This is so true, how they act in front of others and how they act on their own .

I like that example that if you're alone with them you're gonna see the real cold self and if they have an audience to give them supply you see a different person. Yep, don't be alone with them.

Spot on! There was this time when I was really really sick. It took everything out of me just to get out of bed to use the bathroom. It was a slow recovery and my ex got mad at me because I didn't make dinner.

100% - at first I really mistook this as mental toughness (endurance athlete, etc). It’s not. It is a total absence of human feelings! (9/9 characteristics in the one I knew) I thank God on a daily basis a few things happened to shockingly show me this before I got in too deep.

My ex husband who is a narcissist would be the nicest, kindest, friendly generous person outside of the house but the complete opposite behind closed doors. I used to say to him why can’t I have that side of you, you give to everyone else but I get the shit end of the stick.

When my mother was in her deathbed, and finally died. He was unable to provide me with empathy. He held my hand a little in the drive home, but once she died, he wanted to jump in the car and immediately go home. During the last few hours she was alive, he got mad at me because he missed his medication shot by a few hours.

No empathy, I suffer with severe migraine attacks, and now looking back when I had been unwell he would never even ask if I was OK even when I was physically being sick he would never even offer to get me a glass of water, total blank from him, different story when he felt unwell.

I ENDURED 15 YEARS WITH A SOULLESS,HEARTLESS FEM.COVERT MALIGNARC.SHE COULD WATCH AN ANIMAL DIE&NOT EVEN BLINK.I SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE REDFLAGS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD HER OUTRIGHT LIE TO HER FAMILY MEMBERS FOR NO REASON.I FORGAVE HER FOR CHEATING&SHE CONTINUED USING ME AS A MUDDY DOORMAT.THE DISCARD WAS EXTREMELY DRAMATIC,SHE HAD MORE THAN ONE NEW SOURCE WAITING FOR HER&WAS ACTIVELY SEXXING THEM UP WHILE LIVING WITH ME.THE TRAUMABOND WAS MORE DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH THAN DEATHS OF FAMILY MEMBERS&MY TOURS TO THE MIDEAST DESERT.I'M 3 MONTHS 8 DAYS NO CONTACT.I'VE ALWAYS BEEN OKAY ALONE BUT SOME DAYS ARE MORE DIFFICULT THAN OTHERS😪

I have so many examples of this. It has been my #1 concern with marriage because I knew one day I would need him and he wouldnt be there for me. 1) told my Dr my blood pressure wasn't high - I was just stressed fr driving. I enjoy driving. I had preclempsia. Almost coat me and my son our lives. 71/2 wks early 3.3lbs, had lost over a lb before birth 2) pre-birth on #1 they put me on bed rest. Said he didn't really know what that meant and brought our 4 yo home from daycare, left her with me while he drove 1 1/2 hours away to buy his "girlfriend"at work a particular

Shirt she wanted. 3) had the parents steak dinner at the hospital with my dad because husband was eating at chilli's with his girlfriend and couldn't be bothered. 4) but he was kind enough to take my car when I got discharged(son still in NICU)with instructions on how I should wash and detail his car. 5) son had hernia surgery at 3moa. After surgery when he could finally eat and I was giving him a bottle I was booted out of the room by the nurse so he and his *friend" could come in (2 person visitor limit). Neither hospital realized we were married an a couple. They thought I was a single mom. The previous examples were from 1997. I am just now filing for divorce and I have examples from last week! God givee strength to get through this. I know I am incapable on my own

I was in my room and my husband in the next room and I started feeling sharp pains in my chest and I screamed and said please help me it hurts and he didn't say or move and I kept screaming because I realized he was listening and almost I guess enjoying quietly and I felt shocked and hurt to realized my pain meant nothing to him.

Learning that my ex of two weeks is a narc when I would sit and cry from the words he was saying to me asking him to stop he would just look at me and say your tears don’t bother me I don’t care you need to shut up and listen instead of always over talking someone you might learn something. Treated me like a kid instead of a woman.. called me a selfish bit$& for not doing something for him yet if I would say something about what he didn’t do for me I was being selfish

  • @SpecialgiftsLA

Yes. It is apparant this is how they function. Only infront of an outsider they have a different face. But alone can be nothing and at often it is a time of them to strike...Did you train with Melissa Peers ? I Often wanted to tell my story on surviving inorder to help others.
