- Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire update video. In this video, I will be talking about HBO's new Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. We now have our first official look at HBO's Dunk & Egg series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin's three novellas. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set roughly 90 years before the events of A Game of Thrones. The first season will be based on George R.R. Martin's first of three novellas, The Hedge Knight. It's scheduled to release on HBO and HBO Max in 2025.

What's cool is Aemon Targaryen from A Song of Ice and Fire said it was Ser Duncan that escorted him to the wall to join the night's watch by the order of Egg.
Is it the same Aemon that mentored Jon Snow?!
And is Aegon the same Egg i.e., The Mad King?! 😮

Funny thing is, he is actually pretty great at thinking on his feet. Got them street smarts. He just isn't familiar with all the formalities and customs expected of him when he's rubbing shoulders with the haughty nobility.

Well you should have one tiny succession "War" Dunk meets Daemon blackfyre the 2nd during the 2nd blackfyre rebellion, though he doesnt know it was him.
Dunk and Egg is honestly the best part of GRRM's writing.
I'm not holding my breath for this because the story is not finished yet and its been over 6000 days since the last book of a song of ice and fire.
George will have a few years before he needs to start worrying about the next D&E novella.
He could face a serious problem, though, if he doesn't have Winds ready by the time HBO catches up to the third novella 😳
He will have to decide if he wants to finish Winds, or let HBO finish D&E without any more novellas 💀

Stephen King would have likely never have finished the dark tower series had he not been hit by a car.
Honestly I really like the Dunk and Egg books so I'm looking forward to this.

I want to see the Doom of Valyria. I think it would be good as a movie, maybe 2.
Imagine if they did it on a scale and level of Dune & Dune 2!
They could even get Denis Villenue to do it so u know it’s in safe hands.
A massive sci-fi fantasy of the Doom of Valyria would be epic, and could end with the first Targaryens who escaped to Dragonstone, leaving a hint of future happenings and for Aegons Conquest show later in the timeline.
A Denis Doom would be incredible
@@TalkingThrones it would be wicked hey. & could lead into a show about the conquest. They’d maybe have to do time jumps like the first House of the Dragon season? Showing the happenings in the years between the time they settled on dragonstone, and the eventual conquest.
I love house of the dragon, but I think it might be weird if after the dance of dragons, they keep making seasons or additional shows that are back and forth through the timeline. The should do the doom, then do Aegons Conquest and follow the timeline in a linear way covering all the stuff we want to see. I do think that tue Doom could work as a big budget movie on a Dune scale for sure though.

@@ducksauce9187 I think it's a sick idea, it's a part of the wider story that's still shrouded in a lot of mystery. Give someone like Villeneuve some artistic license and I also think he could make something epic
As much as I like Denis, I am disappointed about some of the changes he made in Dune - most of all removing Alia's parts in the Dune story. "Welcome to my gom jabbar, Granfather!" is one of the greatest lines in fiction and he gave it to Paul? Now he has to retcon all of Alia's actions in Messiah and Children - and obviously he can't now do the return of the Baron to explain Alia's insanity.
I have very grave fears he has created a GoT v 2.0 as far as messing with a story.
Dunk and egg novellas are great. I was pretty hesitant going in but they surprised me

still too early for Robert’s Rebellion. Dunk & Egg will likely lead into the BlackFyre Rebellion. Aegon’s Conquest would be next before Robert’s Rebellion
i think the first Blackfyre Rebellion was before Dunk and Egg's timeline, though maybe you're referring to the second Blackfyre Rebellion, which was rather uneventful and the subject of The Mystery Knight.
Robert’s rebellion or Aegons conquest are the only series I want to see in any new GOT show
Blood raven was egg’s hand and uncle and was the one who killed deamon blackfyre in the first blackfyre rebellion it was egg who banished him to the war after he invited several blackfyres to a truece meeting under a metaphorical white flag and proceeded to slaughter them in the second dunk and egg book their is a plot for a second blackfyre rebellion and they are able to quash/delay that im really glad they are doing this i’ve always wanted to see the blackfyre rebellion its a cool period
@@nejands I think he's talking about adapting the blackfyre rebellion. Because Dunk and Egg is perfect to introduce that plotline.
The first Blackfyre rebellion takes place before Dunk and Egg. The second occurs in The Mystery Knight. And the Third happens during Eggs rein as king.

Robert’s rebellion would be a hit for sure , you can even start it years prior to the conflict similar to how HOTD has handled it, seeing a younger Tywin would be soooo cool, they could even show the destruction of house Reyne. Just seeing everyone younger played by different actors would be dope.
Sadly I don't think anyone can pull off a young Tywin because they'll be overshadowed by the memory of the acting prowess of Charles Dance.

Really? I always imagined Duncan taller and more bulky. As you say, he was called Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall. This guy is tall-ish but lean, not that physically commanding. But then again, capable actors who fit physical descriptions are tough to find i suppose.

That kinda defeated your conquest argument. HBO wants ratings and subscriptions. GOT is war centered, HOD is war centered, AC will be war centered, even a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has plenty of fight and war.

I'm really excited for this as it is a very, very fitting tale for television. At last we can focus on one main hero character and his sidekick, a classic formula that has always worked.

The battle royale scene is going to be something else
Aegons conquest should of been the first spin off they made with a flashback scene showing the doom of valryia. Then house of the dragon should of been the 2nd spin off and so on. It would of made it all much clearer if they released the spin offs in order of the major events in the timeline. It’s going to be confusing going from 130 ac which is house of the dragon now to like 200+ ac for this new show.

I fall asleep listening to the audiobook knight of the seven kingdoms every night. It’s an excellent story.
We’ve seen the story of Robert’s rebellion like a gazillion times through the GoT series. I’d like to see the Blackfyre rebellions from the first through the War

Robert’s Rebellion isn’t really worth an entire show considering the story is explored in its entirety within the events of A Song of Ice and Fire. The Blackfyre Rebellions or Ninepenny Kings would be much more interesting

@anoushkas8726 Hotd is down to 8 episodes on the 2nd season with tons of time jumps and the hedge night series is starting at 6 episodes... do you really think we will get a 3x10?

Robert's Rebellion would be cool but I'd prefer Aegon's Conquest or the Blackfyre Rebellions (yes, I know the second Blackfyre Rebellion kinda features in Dunk & Egg).
Roberts Rebellion would be cool but i think it would be weird seeing other actors as young versions of the characters, similar to the Han Solo movie
Both Roberts Rebellion and Aegon’s Conquest are kind of pointless though. The former we already know all crucial details and the latter just isn’t an interesting story. Aegon shows up, rolls over everyone and wins

I was looking forward to what they once called "The Long Night." I would love to see a cinematic take on the history. Also looking forward to seeing Aegon the Conqueror to Meagor and Balerian war against The Faith of the 7. In a perfect world 20 years from now we have 10 spinoffs with 3-6 seasons of each! One can dream!!!!

would be dope to see a series on the dawn age or even earlier to show more of the children of the forest and the giants and then when the first men came into the age of heroes until the andals came but a show about ancient Valyria would be cool to see too

While hotd will be full of big battles, dragons and spectacle.... This is a smaller story
So if hotd is airing every 2 years and this is aired in the year when everybody is waiting for new hotd season
It is best way to present this story and give it a chance to be succesfull

I'm really excited to watch this!
It might be a good thing they’re not going past the events of the book because we all know what happened last time lol but I’m quite surprised to learn it’s going to be 1 story per season and that’s going to be stretched to 6 episodes? I actually thought it was going to be 6 episodes but it would span all 3 stories so far with 2 episodes for each one. The stories themselves are only 100 pages and roughly each GOT episode covered 80 pages at a time so it seems a bit of a stretch to do an entire season with 6 episodes based off only 1 story. Unless they’re shorter episodes like 20 minutes. Idk what extra you could fill it with, it’s pretty contained but I wouldn’t mind seeing flashbacks to Duncan being raised up throughout the show. That could work and make the opening more emotional on rewatch though I would’ve thought I’d have heard somewhere about a young Duncan being cast if that was the case and I haven’t come across it so I doubt it. But honestly I would’ve liked them to wrap all the existing stories up in only 6 episodes whether that was just for 1 season or over multiple because I think these characters and stories they have really lends itself to an episodic style of series of different adventures across Westeros as they travel about
I need a show based on Rhaegars life, him and Daemon are my two favorite characters in the entire story.
Hopefully if we get a story based around Robert’s rebellion we can get a lot of Rhaegars story too 🙏🏻

Casting looks amazing from what I can remember. It has been awhile. I think i really remember liking The first and third and not caring much for a sworn sword. Not sure that would be that interesting of a season unless i am forgetting things. Would that be fair to say?

I agree, in my opinion, I think with HOTD at its high point they should start off with “Aegon, the Conqueror” or start from Valeria leading to the great doom. Just my 2cents to see how it all started would be just fascinating especially how Aegon united the Seven Kingdoms
A series covering the conquest was recently green lit.
I think they should start with his rise to the lord of Dragonstone and his fight in Essos, then leading up to the actual invasion. Even feature some of his visits around the continent before building the map he will later used.

I have come to realize that the reason George doesn't finish the Winds of Winter is because the hype around the book is so intense that no matter what he does, it will fail.
People will call him out for being worse than D&D, for not only writing a mediocre story that doesn't compare to HBO Game of Thrones, but also for wasting their times for so many years.
Therefore don't finish WoW, and do all the fun things you want to do now. Because once WoW comes out, the backlash will bring about another Long Night for HBO of nobody wanting to watch GoT content.
I know there’s a lot of hesitation about this but I absolutely loved these novellas. I cannot wait to watch the Trial by Seven of Duncan the Tall and years down the road I can’t wait to see the Second Blackfyre Rebellion absolutely lose steam before it got off the ground lol. Robert's Rebellion would make an excellent Series. We'd get to see Ed's Older brother and father die. and if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau could reprise his role as Jamie Lannister and Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister that would be amazing.
Making Nikolai, who is 53, look like a 16 year old would be nearly impossible without looking really weird. Charles dance is more realistic

But what made game of thrones special was the politics of the south. You can find hundreds of fantasy stories with monsters similar to White walkers, the politics of the south is what makes this world interesting.
A little dagger says otherwise about that "threat".

GRRM has stated several times that he didn’t think they’d do a Robert’s Rebellion story as everyone already knows how it ends…. Robert defeats Rhaegar in single combat, King Slayer stabs the king in the back, Robert wins the war, and Layana dies giving birth to Jon Snow… it’s either played out on screen or in dialogue on screen for the most part….
