      When I read the chapters of his death during the sailing trip in the books, it CRUSHED me, for so many reasons. I felt he was close to figuring everything out, and he was so important to bring what he knew to the Citadel. Plus he was so beloved a character. It was a tragedy how much info and knowledge passed with him due to his premature death. He was not up to that sailing trip. He should've stayed at the Wall and corresponded to the Citadel or had them send other Maesters to speak with him. That death disturbed me so deeply. Just thinking of the reading experience all these years later still invokes pain, and I've forgotten more than I remember despite reading them 5 or 6 times each. I want to re-read again, but only if we get a solid release date for Winds of Winter.

      Edit: Aemon could have had Samwell transcribe for him. Then Samwell could get to the Citadel with this transcription. Protect our beloved Maester!

    Bloodraven continued to live because he merged with the weirwood. Once Maester Aemon left the wall (and therefore probably got out of Bloodraven‘s influence) he fell sick and died. Makes you think if Bloodraven somehow had a hand in keeping him alive through magic since 104 years in such a harsh environment is quite noteworthy.
    Also there was a scene in the books (don’t remember if it was in the show as well) where Maester Aemon quoted the "the dragon has three heads" line. If he knew Jon was a Targaryen as well, they would be the two other heads for Daenerys.

    When Jon died, that was the perfect time for him to hear of his parentage from Ned himself. YOu know the usual "I will tell you of your past, but your time has not come, Lord of Light wants to send you back) trope. Ithink it would have led well into Jon's character progression from Lord Commander of the NIghts Watch to his building of forces to take backhis homeland. I also think the war to recalim house Stark should have gone on longer. Maybe even destroy a Lanister army tryijng to come North to cull them. I can just see that scene when Cersy says to him, Who in the hell are you that you think you might have a right torule? YOu are a bastard you have no Right to the Iron Throne!"
    to which Jon gets to unleash his Russel Crow in Gladiator
    "I am Aegon Maximus Targaryyean, Commander of the Armies of the NOrth, Genreal of the Barbarian Legions. Son fo Murdered Parents,, Cousin to more murdered cousins, Owner of a one eared Doggo, and Nephew to a fine piece of a$$, and I will ahve my vengeance in this life or the next)

    I liked this analysis, but it was all over the place. You didn't include the years-long research that Maester Aemon did because of his brother's prophetic dragon dreams and how all of it came to conclusion, and how significant Daenerys is and her dragons to the storyline. This wasn't just about Jon and the fight in the north. This is also about unlocking Targaryen mysteries. At Maester Aemon's deathbed, he was CONVINCED that Daenerys is the Prince that was promised, "Dragon" being a gender neutral term in Valyrian.

    Dayne's Dawn is Lightbringer imo. Ticks all the boxes- forged from a comet by people who look very similar to Targaryens, so of a race somewhere in that region. The sword is pale like milkglass, pale like the White Walkers' ice swords, but Dawn is of fire. It has been forged in fire of dying star. It's the only sword that saw the previous Long Night. Furthermore, the name Dawn. Dawn comes after night. Dawn brings light.
    Even from the literal pov, the fact that Dawn has been described and attributed so much importance to, more than any other sword in ASOIAF, can't be a coincidence. Dawn is Lightbringer.

    • @brittneystreeter493
      @brittneystreeter493 2 роки тому +7

      The words are probably “we bring the dawn” or bringing the light or something along those lines. It could also be why Dawn is supposed to wait for one who is worthy…instead of just being an expert swordsman you need to be the one that was promised but the tradition got changed up over the thousands of years.

    Aemon, in the end, believed Daenarys to be the Prince that was Promised/Azor Ahai reborn, not Jon. So much so that Aemon wanted to go to her and guide her, while warning Jon that Stannis specifically isn't Azor Ahai via the Jade Compendium. Also in the books, before learning about Dany, Aemon was convinced he was the last living Targaryen. Aemon attributes his long life to being at the Wall and the power or magic there; Melisandre backs this claim by specifically calling the Wall a "hinge of the world" where her power is stronger there than even when she was in Asshai. Further, Aemon made a point of showing that he didn't care who became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch in the books, stating firmly that he wouldn't favor one contender over the other.
    Sorry to sound harsh, but almost everything you cite as support for this fan theory comes from the show adaptation (which got MANY things wrong), not the actual books. It is a fun thought, but the only way it works is to ignore so much stuff from the novels.

  • @movieloverfan18
    @movieloverfan18 4 місяці тому +1

    I agree that it makes sense. I heard that George regrets killing off a character, and I think it might have been Aemon. I suppose he could have left a journal. Also, Bloodraven took the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister with him beyond the Wall and some people think maybe he left it with Maester Aemon instead.
    I had a show theory. In fact I was 100% convinced that the show was setting this up. When Jon talks to Aemon in Season 1 about choosing duty over personal ties, Maester Aemon said that his father was Maekar, Aegon was his younger sibling, and Aegon was the father of Aerys the Mad King. That made him Aemon's nephew. What the show did was remove an entire generation of King Jaehaerys II. So Daeron the 4th child of Aegon didn't exist. And Aemon was younger not the 102 years old that he was in the books. So it would have to be Aemon that Olenna was supposed to be engaged to. And it was Olenna that Aemon was talking to Sam about, when he spoke of the woman that he once loved.
    I was sure they were setting up that when Maester Aemon left the Wall with Sam by ship that they would run into Olenna leaving to go back to Highgarden. Aemon would be dying but hearing she was on the ship would have Sam get her. Then he would have a scene with her and tell her how she was the love of his life.
    Sorry but you made one mistake in this video, Brynden Rivers was the bastard of Aegon IV the Unworthy not Aegon V.

    I still believe that Meera Reed is Jon's twin sister. Howland Reed was at the tower of joy that day and witnessed what took place. He was ever loyal to the Starks and would have obeyed Ned's command to raise one of Lyanna's babies under a false name, as he did with Jon.
    Meera was always different than Jojen, who was tiny, sickly, and resembled the children of the forest. Meera, however, was always strong, great with weapons, and has Stark features. I know the show didn't go that route (and completely abandoned her story line), but I believe this is the truth in GRRM's storyline.

      Really interesting theory, apparently they are the same age in the books so it’s not impossible. I also checked that it’s not uncommon for Targaryen children to have dark hair; I can’t find a good source on the fact but the silver-blonde hair appears to be recessive. The only problem with this theory is that we’d need to find some actual book-content, like actual quotes and implications pertaining to this

      I believe the ‘disinheriting’ was rumoured only...
      Viserys became _an_ heir after Rhaegar’s death, but Rhaegar’s son, Aerys’ eldest grandson, would *always* supersede Viserys- as a second son, he is behind both Rhaegar’s son *&* Rhaegar’s daughter- despite being five or however many years older than them (but the latter might depend more on how much political force the Dornish could bring to bear on the situation, given the issues surrounding the Great Council of 101 & the resultant Dance of Dragons....).
      With the deaths of Aegon & Rhaenyra (which Aerys couldn’t have known about, as he was killed roughly about the same time) after Rhaegar’s passing, Viserys & then Daenerys could **now** be considered the senior branch heirs (given Jon’s not known at this time).
      However, it all reverts back to the original senior branch, when Jon’s heritage is revealed- **this** is what should have created the conflict between them; Dany’s spent years thinking she’s the last of her line, the only heir to the Throne- her only competition is the widely despised & disgraced widow & mother of three usurpers (we’ll ignore that Stannis is still alive as of the book’s’ current end & Cersei hasn’t actually claimed the throne) - suddenly, it’s revealed that not only is she *not* the last of her family, _but_ this other relation is actually **ahead of her in the line of succession...**

Anyway that's irrelevant, Rheager line was disinherited, it wasn't rumours, Aerys disinherited Rheager line in Roberts rebellion bypassing Rheagers children, that's the direct line we get in AWOIAF hardback, so Jon has no claim to house Targaryen, making Dany the rightful heir to house targ

    How do we reconcile all of this with the Samwell chapter in AFFC where Sam is talking to Alleras and Archmaester Marwyn; describing his journey and the last days of Maester Aemon? Saying, "Maester Aemon believed that Daenerys Targaryen was the fulfillment of a prophecy..." And that, "Aemon would have gone to her if he had the strength. He wanted us to send a maester to her, to counsel her and protect her and fetch her safely home." Do we have to assume that this is an instance of unreliable narration, and Maester Aemon never explicitly stated these things about Dany, but rather about "the last dragon" meaning Jon but letting Sam misinterpret his words?
