It could also be why Dawn is supposed to wait for one who is worthy…instead of just being an expert swordsman you need to be the one that was promised but the tradition got changed up over the thousands of years.
Please remember that The Three Eyed Crow is what Bran called him. He was actually unfamiliar with the term, which means either he doesn't know how he appears to people in visions or it wasn't him.
Thank you for all your research and information 🙏 ❤️. It is so helpful to me. Since my brain is like a sieve , your explanations are always appreciated. You really help me remember, what was written about the characters in the book.
Aemon, in the end, believed Daenarys to be the Prince that was Promised/Azor Ahai reborn, not Jon. So much so that Aemon wanted to go to her and guide her, while warning Jon that Stannis specifically isn't Azor Ahai via the Jade Compendium. Also in the books, before learning about Dany, Aemon was convinced he was the last living Targaryen. Aemon attributes his long life to being at the Wall and the power or magic there; Melisandre backs this claim by specifically calling the Wall a "hinge of the world" where her power is stronger there than even when she was in Asshai. Further, Aemon made a point of showing that he didn't care who became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch in the books, stating firmly that he wouldn't favor one contender over the other. Sorry to sound harsh, but almost everything you cite as support for this fan theory comes from the show adaptation (which got MANY things wrong), not the actual books. It is a fun thought, but the only way it works is to ignore so much stuff from the novels.
I agree that it makes sense. I heard that George regrets killing off a character, and I think it might have been Aemon. I suppose he could have left a journal. Also, Bloodraven took the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister with him beyond the Wall and some people think maybe he left it with Maester Aemon instead. I had a show theory. In fact I was 100% convinced that the show was setting this up. When Jon talks to Aemon in Season 1 about choosing duty over personal ties, Maester Aemon said that his father was Maekar, Aegon was his younger sibling, and Aegon was the father of Aerys the Mad King. That made him Aemon's nephew. What the show did was remove an entire generation of King Jaehaerys II. So Daeron the 4th child of Aegon didn't exist. And Aemon was younger not the 102 years old that he was in the books. So it would have to be Aemon that Olenna was supposed to be engaged to. And it was Olenna that Aemon was talking to Sam about, when he spoke of the woman that he once loved. I was sure they were setting up that when Maester Aemon left the Wall with Sam by ship that they would run into Olenna leaving to go back to Highgarden. Aemon would be dying but hearing she was on the ship would have Sam get her. Then he would have a scene with her and tell her how she was the love of his life. Sorry but you made one mistake in this video, Brynden Rivers was the bastard of Aegon IV the Unworthy not Aegon V.
I think it's interesting now with dance of dragons hearing the perspective that they conquered westerose and must maintain leadership specifically to help humanity survive the dark night. They needed family at the wall and beyond.
I could watch you’re videos all day every day. I wish I had time to read all the books but like many others family, job ect… makes it hard. Thanks for the work you put into this 👍🏽🙏🏽🔥
I guess ive always known that Meister Amon knew who John was and the number 1 reason Eddard let him go to the wall! Because he will be watched over by his family. Dan and Dave messed up so much when you realize the tie in with Meister Ammon and John Snow as well as Blood Raven.
Thank you for that, it came at just the right time for me, as I’ve actually just read that part in the books. Your explanation absolutely makes sense to me. By the way, you most probably can guess now that I’ve watched the show before reading the books 😉
14:03 what he does mean is that the dragon king always needs his or her council within the family, you could see in the new show house of dragon. An alone Targeryen in the world will lead to crazy act, even king has small council but they are pack just like wolf, they tend to listen to one another.
I love how you know the history and bring it to light. Unfortunately the writers of GOT did such a bad job in season 8 that they ruined a wonderful adventure! I don’t care what anyone says! All that history and all the drama surrounding it only for Snow to get totally screwed and and a Stark ends up being King? I still am thoroughly pissed off at season 8. Ugh 😩 how dare they do that!!!
There are probably a lot more people who knew. At a minimum, Rhaegar would have arranged for a midwife and a wet nurse. Also supplies would have been needed. House Dayne was probably where this came from and probably explains the Willa rumors
I still believe that Meera Reed is Jon's twin sister. Howland Reed was at the tower of joy that day and witnessed what took place. He was ever loyal to the Starks and would have obeyed Ned's command to raise one of Lyanna's babies under a false name, as he did with Jon. Meera was always different than Jojen, who was tiny, sickly, and resembled the children of the forest. Meera, however, was always strong, great with weapons, and has Stark features. I know the show didn't go that route (and completely abandoned her story line), but I believe this is the truth in GRRM's storyline. What do you guys think?
Really interesting theory, apparently they are the same age in the books so it’s not impossible. I also checked that it’s not uncommon for Targaryen children to have dark hair; I can’t find a good source on the fact but the silver-blonde hair appears to be recessive. The only problem with this theory is that we’d need to find some actual book-content, like actual quotes and implications pertaining to this
Perhaps she's Lanna and Rhaegars only child. Lets not forget that Jon looks exactly like Ned. Maybe bringing her to bloodraven was the point and not Bran.
@@basquat76 why would bloodraven have her be slowed down by bran in the first place, it would make more sense for him to just have her and jojen go behind the wall if bran wasnt needed
The sword that Stannis used was not enchanted to flame by Melisandre. It was a parlor trick. This was made clear in the books, some flaming sword illusion practiced by a monk for show in tournaments. Melisandre believed, because she saw what she wanted to see.
She did that a few times. The scene with no heat, glowed with light. But there was no heat to it. It was an obviously glowing magic sword, with no heat. Shadow magic. Illusion.
Thank you - you answered my question about whether Maester Aemond Targaryen knew who Jon Snow was. I never thought about the Bloodraven being related to the Targaryens, either, but it makes sense. .
RR is never gong to finish the books and it is sad. I feel like after how many people hated Bran becoming king he kind of gave up on ever finishing the books. The prince that was promised? "The language misled us all for a thousand years. Daenerys is the one, born amidst of salt and smoke." - Maester Aemon Targaryen
The King Brain on Wheels and Jon Snow World rather resembles Alfred Kubin's "The Other Side" (Die andere Seite) but there still a Princess of X is in petto!
Rhaegar wasn’t a swordsman, then Summerhall tragedy happened and he received some sort of message either from that or from reading something about the prince that was promised- he says it seems I must become a knight to I think Arthur Dayne of the master at arms who trains him
Rhaegar didn't know about the prophecy of fire and ice. Like 4 people knew in the books and daemon only knew because rhanerya told him when she thought he knew
@@kckillakrack9714 I know how it started but still would love to see it all played out on screen. Books were made I think we all know how it all played out but that doesn't mean it can't be adapted for tv
Or is it that Master Aemond was saying that Jon has a dragon egg somewhere. Those Targaryans made sure that their children had a dragon egg when they are born to bond with the dragon.
@@sawtooth808 well, maybe blind Aemon Targaryen, in his senility, felt the presence of Aegon in the room. They do have certain senses. (Maybe from the dragons!)Targaryens seem to use first names over and over. Watching THD, the names are all familiar even though it’s setting years before GoT. This video was very good and I thank you for it. There is so much rehashed, same old stuff being put out just because. It was good to think about this.
Drives me crazy how they didn't do a good job IRL on the swords. They could have made Ice a Damascus that had black swirls to make it like the book. Stannis' sword could have had a case hardened color finish after pulling it out of the fire etc.
What if Lyanna and Rhaegar never married but simply had a child together? Jon would still be a Targaryen but illegitimate. Do you think that would matter? Also he’s technically been legitimized as a Stark by Robb so he’s officially a Stark now in the books. Granted no one but a few Northman know this but still lol
Jon doesn't have a claim regardless of lyanna and rhaeger getting married or not, Aerys made Viserys his new crown prince and heir disinheriting Rheagers line. Jon has no claim
@@donone352 I believe the ‘disinheriting’ was rumoured only... Viserys became _an_ heir after Rhaegar’s death, but Rhaegar’s son, Aerys’ eldest grandson, would *always* supersede Viserys- as a second son, he is behind both Rhaegar’s son *&* Rhaegar’s daughter- despite being five or however many years older than them (but the latter might depend more on how much political force the Dornish could bring to bear on the situation, given the issues surrounding the Great Council of 101 & the resultant Dance of Dragons....). With the deaths of Aegon & Rhaenyra (which Aerys couldn’t have known about, as he was killed roughly about the same time) after Rhaegar’s passing, Viserys & then Daenerys could **now** be considered the senior branch heirs (given Jon’s not known at this time). However, it all reverts back to the original senior branch, when Jon’s heritage is revealed- **this** is what should have created the conflict between them; Dany’s spent years thinking she’s the last of her line, the only heir to the Throne- her only competition is the widely despised & disgraced widow & mother of three usurpers (we’ll ignore that Stannis is still alive as of the book’s’ current end & Cersei hasn’t actually claimed the throne) - suddenly, it’s revealed that not only is she *not* the last of her family, _but_ this other relation is actually **ahead of her in the line of succession...**
@@OcarinaSapphr- That's not true at all, Rheager was never king, he has no KINGSHIP, Aerys next oldest son automatically becomes king ahead of any of Rheager children, the way you described it is not how succession works. Viserys line was the true line , not Jon. Dany was the last of viserys line, making Daenery the rightful heir to the iron throne. Anyway that's irrelevant, Rheager line was disinherited, it wasn't rumours, Aerys disinherited Rheager line in Roberts rebellion bypassing Rheagers children, that's the direct line we get in AWOIAF hardback, so Jon has no claim to house Targaryen, making Dany the rightful heir to house targ
@@donone352 That is not how succession work. Rhaegar's son actually is next in line. If Prince William dies, Harry would not be next in line. William and Kate's kid would be.
@@kennyhudson9201 Not true, its up to the king of westeros who is his successor, and king Aerys disinherited Rheagers line in favour of Visery. Nobody can tell a king who inherits his lands and titles because the king is the law of the land and he chose visery to be his successor. Rheager was never king, he has no kINGSHIP, Its not even controversial what aerys did, its standard procedure. If Aerys had died and Rheager was king, then jon would be the heir, but that didnt happen. Visery was his successor and in turn he made Daenery his heir. The line of succession is very clear and the law makers had no problem with changing the line to viserys when he was crowned king on dragonstone. Even ello and lydia who co wrote the world of ice of fire said Danys has more of a claim than jon
I think this is all quite a reach. Regardless, the casting decisions for GOT are probably the best of any hit TV show adapted from or based on a series of popular books. Aemon being one of the best.
Did the Three-Eyed Raven say he waited thousands of years for Bran to show up…at least in the show? I’m just starting to read the books so haven’t gotten too far.
How do we reconcile all of this with the Samwell chapter in AFFC where Sam is talking to Alleras and Archmaester Marwyn; describing his journey and the last days of Maester Aemon? Saying, "Maester Aemon believed that Daenerys Targaryen was the fulfillment of a prophecy..." And that, "Aemon would have gone to her if he had the strength. He wanted us to send a maester to her, to counsel her and protect her and fetch her safely home." Do we have to assume that this is an instance of unreliable narration, and Maester Aemon never explicitly stated these things about Dany, but rather about "the last dragon" meaning Jon but letting Sam misinterpret his words?
I really hope HBO decides to do a dunk n egg show and roberts rebellion. We would get to see bloodraven in his prime and master Aemon young. And to see Raegar. I know GRRM said there’s no reason to do roberts rebellion because we’ll know everything that happened by the end of the books. I disagree. We know everything about the dance in detail because it’s written in fire n blood. Yet they’re still making HOTD. It’s different to see the story come to life on screen. So I’m hopeful we will see these shows.

It could also be why Dawn is supposed to wait for one who is worthy…instead of just being an expert swordsman you need to be the one that was promised but the tradition got changed up over the thousands of years.
Who wields it?
we need to have a tv series about master aemon
Please remember that The Three Eyed Crow is what Bran called him. He was actually unfamiliar with the term, which means either he doesn't know how he appears to people in visions or it wasn't him.
nope
Aren't a raven and a crow the same thing? Just depends on the region
I LOVE your videos. You are a very in depth thinker. l love your offerings, great insights and ideas. Can't wait for the next episode of Season 9. :)
If Ned would have just told the truth about his sister and her baby- a lot of lives would have been spared.
It’s tru me they are using show stuff and just coveted danys vision
Agreed. Dany was the PtwP. The dragons prove it.
Amazing theory, and most people don’t think Aemon knew who Jon Snow was, I always felt he did !
He knew like everyone that rhaegar kidnapped John's mom it's literally the reason Robert barathian started a war
I think it's interesting now with dance of dragons hearing the perspective that they conquered westerose and must maintain leadership specifically to help humanity survive the dark night. They needed family at the wall and beyond.
Great video! But.....please continue season 9. Your doing an impressive job ser!
I could watch you’re videos all day every day. I wish I had time to read all the books but like many others family, job ect… makes it hard. Thanks for the work you put into this 👍🏽🙏🏽🔥
Awesome perspectives & connections.
Thank you. 🙏🏼
my dude im freaking dying for the rest of your season 9!!!!
I missed these videos. Nice!
I guess ive always known that Meister Amon knew who John was and the number 1 reason Eddard let him go to the wall! Because he will be watched over by his family. Dan and Dave messed up so much when you realize the tie in with Meister Ammon and John Snow as well as Blood Raven.
he let him go to the wall as Starks go to the wall anyway .... plenty of Starks have gone there before Jon
@@randomcallum Thats true, however Jon was not a Stark and also John would have been a possible target if he wasn't watched over.
@@princeofdorne3415 Well if we're going by R+L=J, then he's as much a Stark as a Targaryen
Great video !!!
Thank you for that, it came at just the right time for me, as I’ve actually just read that part in the books. Your explanation absolutely makes sense to me. By the way, you most probably can guess now that I’ve watched the show before reading the books 😉
"A story we agreed to tell each other over and over until we forget it's a lie"
I appreciate the video of course. But with subtitles it is so much easier 🙈
Same for me xD
Well hit the subtitles icon
Then laugh as YT struggles with the names
It went off the rails starting in season 5, it was a dumpster fire long before season 8.
I didn't realize the 3 eyed raven was Brynden Rivers. I just finished "Dunk and Egg" and his character played a big part.
Which means he was at least 120 years old. At least.
There are probably a lot more people who knew. At a minimum, Rhaegar would have arranged for a midwife and a wet nurse. Also supplies would have been needed. House Dayne was probably where this came from and probably explains the Willa rumors
Indeed
The only problem with this theory is that we’d need to find some actual book-content, like actual quotes and implications pertaining to this
Possibly she disguises herself with dye like Sansa while her true hair color is white.
@@sombersensei9119 you make a good point. Maybe bran is his replacement and meera is out there
He definetly knew more than he was letting on at first
Im Always saying the words along out loud as Little Finger speaks them during your videos Intro’s 😆
Illusion.
Always amazed by your analysis.
Dang this was giving me chills for some reason. Why or should I say how did I not put this together
Thank you - you answered my question about whether Maester Aemond Targaryen knew who Jon Snow was. I never thought about the Bloodraven being related to the Targaryens, either, but it makes sense. .
Talking Thrones thank you so much for this interesting information you made alawys good video and not predictions.
3:18 he's actually son of Aegon the Fourth, not the Fifth
RR is never gong to finish the books and it is sad. I feel like after how many people hated Bran becoming king he kind of gave up on ever finishing the books. He is unhealthy and getting older every year. He writes tons of other stories much easier because they dont have the negativity of the main books
kento mura (sorry spelt wrong) recently died so no end to berserk after 30 years of writing I fear grrm has 10 years left if that .... at which point we ain't getting 2 books
@@randomcallum I only became a fan much later and it won't break my heart tok much if the story isn't finished. Other people have invested so much time and energy and deserve a finished story.
This is amazing! Thank you for making this video! I love everything GOT lore, especially Jon Snow!
The prince that was promised?
"The language misled us all for a thousand years. Daenerys is the one, born amidst of salt and smoke."
- Maester Aemon Targaryen
The King Brain on Wheels and Jon Snow World rather resembles Alfred Kubin's "The Other Side" (Die andere Seite) but there still a Princess of X is in petto!
Very insightful thank you.
3:20 wasn't that king aegon 4th
Great video
Hold the door hold the door to hodor was one of the best twists ever. Like damnnnnn
I wish I could like this video over and over again ❤️❤️ thank you
😁
The thing I've always wondered most about Aemon, given how old and wise he was, did he either know or have a hunch who Jon really was?
He was John's grandfather everyone knew rhaegar kidnapped his mother and caused Robert barathian to start a war
@@kckillakrack9714 Yes...
No he would be Jon's uncle. And Lyanna went with Rheagar willingly. She did not want to be with Robert Barathian
The intro is so dope
I would love to see a GOT prequal built around Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark
I mean did you watch game of thrones? The war started by Robert barathian was because of him kidnapping her
@@kckillakrack9714 I know how it started but still would love to see it all played out on screen. Books were made I think we all know how it all played out but that doesn't mean it can't be adapted for tv
Yup I always knew there was more to Aemon story!
So good!
One of my favorite characters💕
When Maester Aemon lay sick, he called Jon Snow “Egg” a few times. They just thought it was dementia!
Or is it that Master Aemond was saying that Jon has a dragon egg somewhere. Those Targaryans made sure that their children had a dragon egg when they are born to bond with the dragon.
@@melodygordon2357 No, it's because his name was Aegon, a pet name could be egg.
Well, Jon Snow’s real name was Aegon Targaryen, hence why he would call Jon “Egg” (Aeg)
But IDK if Egg was a brother or Cousin to Aemon, but he said they played together when young.
@@pamcoyer9582 Yea, I am not convinced that Egg actually refers to Jon. I think Aemon had a brother, it seems to be referring to that..
This video was very good and I thank you for it. There is so much rehashed, same old stuff being put out just because. It was good to think about this.
3:18 Aegon Targaryan, the *fourth* of his name
these theory videos do my head in
My new favourite ASOIAF theory
Man,you have to write your own scripts and sell to the highest bidder, yours ideas are unbelieveablle
Drives me crazy how they didn't do a good job IRL on the swords. They could have made Ice a Damascus that had black swirls to make it like the book. Stannis' sword could have had a case hardened color finish after pulling it out of the fire etc.
I am still do not understand how they (show Writers) really missed up the hall story and the main porpse of the promised king.
@9:42 I think this is the first time I realized that Ollie actually was initially clapping for Maester Aemon's tie-breaking vote in favor of Jon Snow.
@@donone352
I believe the ‘disinheriting’ was rumoured only...
Been reading the books lately, I stay away from the show now unfortunately. Still enjoy the early seasons and your analysis.
We need the next episode of season 9!!! Im dying over here... Positive note you're still beating GRRM pace.
I need to reread these. I don’t remember half of this and I have read them a few times
I’m just starting to read the books so haven’t gotten too far.
im reading DOD again, and i think bloodraven says something similar like he waited a thousand years.
1000 years is just like 1000 swords for the throne - a metaphor for "many"
Mad Props to Howland Reed for being a loyal confidant.
Cool video and fun premise, not sure Jon's real name is going to turn out to be Egg (Aegon) in the books tho
03:19 small error, it is Aegon IV of his name, not V
The title sounded ridicolous but after watching you make some good points
If i go with every episode of talking thrones...its certain that one day i can write Secrets of Song of ice and fire😁😁
I have my hands all four the five books and I have started the first book and love it its exactly like season 1
