This is why Dione Warwick calls Barry Gibb the “hit maker!”
I have been in love with Dionne since the early '60s, with "Walk on By," "Don't Make Me Over," "Anyone Who Had a Heart"... "Make It Easy on Yourself"! She and Dusty Sprinfield were without a doubt the finest interpreters of the great music by Bacharach and David. Dionne is a National Treasure.
I would add Karen Carpenter OBVIOUSLY as well...
I agree completely with your choices. These we’re not only Dionne’s best songs - they were some of the best songs of the 60s
Yes! And also her big hit “Do you know the way to San Jose”.
@@lindapetro5594 Yes, but that was later in the 1960s. I was at a very needy, emotional place earlier that decade; the slow, torchy songs spoke to me more back then!
Totally agree.
❤Maurice Gibb wept after he, Barry, and Robin finished writing this song for Mrs. Warwick, realizing its lyrical power-and thinking, “We should be singing this.” Sure enough Heartbreaker became an international hit and they felt her singing was brilliant! 🎉 Also, “Walk on By” is one of the greatest songs ever put to record in my humble opinion-her delivery is sublime: ua-cam.com/video/bpoBISzUP4o/v-deo.html
They actually did a cover of it.
@@_joestop5 Not sure you would call it a cover of it, since they wrote it. Wouldn't it be considered their version of it? I really liked Dionne singing it, but I prefer the Bee Gees version. Both are awesome versions.
@@_joestop5 they didn't do a cover, they wrote it .
It sounds like the Bee Gees in the background.
@@angelajakem366 that's because it is!! woohoo!! aint it great?!
Was so happy that Dionne and Barry both 2023 Kennedy Center Honorees
Another great song written by the Bee Gees.
After the Bee Gees went undercover. Disco fugitives on the run in the witness protection plan.
This was my favorite song from Dion Warrick. This song was written by Barry Gibb for Dion Warrick. She is also a cousin to Whitney Houston
Another great song written by the Bee Gees for Ms. Warwick
Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick created some timeless music. She was a very classy women.
Burt Bacharach + Hal David + Dionne Warwick = Timeless Music !!!
Still is!
But this one was Barry Gibb, not Burt Bacharach.
see if possible my comment (Sat 1pm pacific) anyway.. might as well repeat Lol! a Dionne Warwick bio on tv last week or so, would think / assume would have been shown in US (poss elsewhere) as I’m in western Canada and it was shown here. I’m sure you’d enjoy it.. includes interviews with so many.. including of course Burt Bacharach! 😉😁👍
Burt Bacharach was a huge composer and had several hits that he sang. But after hearing Dionne Warwick he started writing almost exclusively for her. Obviously, the Bee Gees loved her voice too. Dionne Warwick's catalog is a huge. I don't think Burt Bacharach ever wrote a bad song.
Such a great great song, sung by Dionne Warwick, and written by the Bee Gees if you didn’t know
They said that in the video.
The niece of Cissy Houston, and first cousin of Whitney Houston. Three voices like that in one family, amazing! By the way Cissy and Luther Vandross sing background on Chaka Khan's hit "Papillion".
Luther and Whitney also used to sing backup for Cissy when they were younger.
Love 'Papillion! My older sister had the 45! Didn't know Cissy and Luther sung background!
Like 3 of the Gibb brothers
Cissy was in The Sweet Inspirations who were a one time Elvis's backing group
She sang on We Are The World. You know the BeeGees wrote this for her.
Dionne Warwick is awesome! She is Whitney Houston’s cousin. She’s been around forever.
Exactly what I was going to say
Huh so my best friends wedding got it wrong they said she was whitney Houstons aunt
@@roxyhart3247 I've always known her to be her cousin
I was about to say the same thing. Family of beautiful voices…including Elvis back up singer…Whitney’s mom!
@@roxyhart3247 Definitely cousins. Their mothers were sisters. Dionne is 23 years older than Whitney because Dionne's mother, Lee (born 1920), had Dionne when she was only 20 (1940). Cissy was born 1933, (13 years younger than Lee) & didn’t have Whitney till she was 30 (1963).
Jay & Amber, You'll love her "I Say A Little Prayer," "Walk On By", and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" !!!!
All three written by the legendary team of Burt Bacharach-music and Hal David-lyrics.
edit - Heartbreaker is from 1982. Her extra special songs are from the 60s like the ones above.
Love walk on bye
They would be familiar with "I Say A Little Prayer", if they reacted to "My Best Friend's Wedding" on film friday.
Actually they'd really LOVE Bee Gees version of Heartbreaker as well!🥰
Promoses, Promises!
This is one of my "Big Two" Dionne Warwick songs. My favorite is "I'll Never Love This Way Again" from 1979. That should be your next reaction from her.
Yes, that's a great song by her.
💖💖💖💖💖
I'll never love this way again is her best. An absolute masterpiece
Dionne Warwick is the late, famous Whitney Houston's cousin, btw. Y'all should react to Warwick's songs, "Don't Make Me Over" ('62), and "Walk On By" ('64). Dionne also had a sister named Dee Dee Warwick who was a professional recording artist as well. She sung hit songs like "You're No Good" ('64), and "I Want To Be With You" ('67),
In worldwide radio, a Bee Gees song is played every 20 seconds!!!
Jay, I'm so proud of you hearing the Bee Gees sound in that intro!! Even though it is a fabulous song, Barry had to do some serious arm twisting to get her to do it. She didn't think it fit her. It was one of her biggest hits. Mo said he wanted to cry in the car going home after the recording session, because he was overcome that the brothers didn't do it themselves. They sang it in the medley section of their concerts. I love her version, but three brothers with that spectacular harmony around one mic is heaven.
Now wish they'd react to the Bee Gees version!🎼
@@kthor - It would be nice if they reacted to the "One for all" medley where they did their version. It runs the gamut of so many of their hits over decades. 👍👍
@@susieq9801 I second that! Chiefs!!! (Love to Damar)
@@kthor I think that would be perfect. In case you see this J & A, Here is a link to the Bee Gees medley from the One for All tour in Melbourne. The whole medley is just perfection. Heartbreaker starts at 6.25. ua-cam.com/video/BfIMEdc8BdE/v-deo.html
@@janicetrimmell6897 The medley is great, but this song is only a "few" seconds in it. To compare their own version you have to hear the whole song. I love the Bee Gees version much more than Dionnes, but hers is also nice!
“Then came you” with the Spinners is my favorite!!🤘🔥
Oh yes!! That’s a great one!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 definitely!!!
Yes yes!!
Same Here
How many people can say The Bee Gees sang back up vocals for them? Their voices and hers are awesome together.
❤Dionne Warwick believes in being true to her elderly ladies voice by not pushing it as it's in very rusty shape today. Let's offer her praise that she can still sing and attract interest at 85! Beautiful effort ❤
Early in her career, she worked with the great Burt Bacharach. She recorded a number of songs he wrote. My personal favorite is "Anyone Who Had a Heart".
Oh yes! I forgot about that tear jerker!!!
In the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and New Zealand, Warwick's recording lost out to a cover version by Cilla Black. Black's version was a UK number-one hit for three weeks in February/March 1964 and was also the fourth best-selling single of 1964 in the UK,[2] with sales of around 950,000 copies.
Petula Clark also recorded "Anyone Who Had a Heart" in several foreign language versions for the international market. Clark reached No. 7 in France with "Ceux Qui Ont Un Coeur" in the spring of 1964, then No. 5 in Italy with "Quelli che hanno un cuore"1 that September. In October 1964, Clark reached No. 1 in Spain-for a two-week period-with "Tú no tienes corazón".
Oh I love this woman’s voice!! Heartbreaker has always been a favorite of mine!!! Dionne and The Bee Gees, J! Does it get any better?!!
What a song! Dionne knows how to sing it out! She has many songs that you may love! She use to sing many Burt Bacharach songs ….so beautiful!
This whole album was produced by them and is really good!!!
Three of my favorite songs sung by Dionne Warwick are:
"Promises Promises " (1968),
"Walk On By" (1964),
"I Say a Little Prayer" (1967)
Dionne Warwick is related to Whitney Houston. I love her song "I Say Alittle Prayer For You"
she is Whitney's cousin.
The song I think of when I think of Dionne Warwick is walk on by Written by Burt Bacharach
And the Bee Gees wrote this song for her.. Well, the entire "Heartbreaker" album actually, in which this song is included, and Barry produced this album with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson... I so love this album of Dionne, especially this song, I hope you react to more of her songs..❤️
Check out her song, " I know I'll Never Love This Way Again."
Dionne Warwick made her name singing Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs like "Walk on By" and "Wishin' and Hopin'. Is also the cousin of Whitney Houston.
Dusty Springfield's version of "Wishin' and Hopin'" was more popular.
Barry Gibb is all over this album "Heartbreaker" Barry Gibb - Acoustic Guitar, Arranged By [Horns], Arranged By [Strings], Backing Vocals and Producer.
Dionne Warwick had so many hits in the 60's and 70's, one after the other, "Walk on By", "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", "Don't Make Me Over", "Say a Little Prayer", "Anyone Who Had Heart" are just a few of them. I always loved her voice.
The Bee Gees were backing singers on this 😎
WRITTEN for her by the BEEGEES!
And I can't believe we're 6 days into the new year with no new BeeGees reaction! It's been AGES!
Ms Dionne Warwick was first cousin to Whitney Houston. Whitney's mom who sang back up for Elvis for a season was her Aunt.. Great song writer Burt Bacharach wrote many songs for Dionne Warwick. She was a singer I was raised on and a. Fantastic voice. A power house in the 60s. Performing in to the 80s, i know of ..Great Classie Lady.. thank you
Many of you probably don't know that The Bee Gees wrote and sang back up on the great '85 dance song for Diana Ross named "Chain Reaction."
The song charted #1 all over the world but only made it to #66 on the U.S. Billboard 100 Charts in '86. I heard Diana was so passionate about this
song that she got it done with only one vocal track in the studio.
Man, Amber can you pick them. Not only was Dionne a fantastic singer but this song was written by The Bee Gees.
The Bee Gees and Dionne make this song sound so great. Their backing vocals are awesome too.
Dionne is The Great Whitney Houston's 1st cousin. Their Moms was sisters, talent runs deep in their family
Yes, they have another cousin... Thelma Houston... she had a big hit in the 70s, I can't recall the name of the song.
@@chrisoakley5830 Don't Leave Me This Way.
@@williamwatters679 Thank You. 😊
"Whitney is the great Dionne Warwick's cousin" is what I think you meant to say.
Also, opera great Leontyne Price is also a first cousin to Cissy Houston and Dionne's mother, Lee.
Another hit song by the brother's Gibb, they really were the gift that kept giving. Life would have been so much poorer without them!
Dionne was a GROUND breaker, a big civil rights activist (she didn't take 💩💩off anybody!) and one of the first to join the AIDS cause with Elton John. The song written for the AIDS cause, "That's what Friends are for" got her a Grammy for best solo performance.
A beautiful song written by Barry, Robin and Maurice! The lyrics are SO Bee Gees and they knew exactly how to match a song with the voice they were writing for. The Bee Gees performed this in their 1989 "One for all" Melbourne concert Medley. That would be a terrific reaction if possible. Showcases all the brother in top form and several of their hits through the decades.
I don't know if you all aware that the band " Iron Butterfly " at one time had the longest recorded song in rock history ( 17 Min. ) . It is called "In-A-Godda-Veeda , the short version was what mostly played at the time , ( mid 60's psychedelic music ).
She makes the most complicated musical arrangements look and sound so easy ! Burt Bacharach knew talent !
Dionne Warwick paired with Burt Bacharach and Hal David's music and lyrics is amazing. They did many songs together.
"Walk on By" from 1963. Thanks.
Dionne Warwick is the cousin of the late & talented, Grammy winner Whitney Houston.
R.I.P. Whitney & your daughter R.I.P. Bobbi Christina
Barry wanted to write this for her, she didn’t want to record it/like it but he convinced her it would be a hit, and it was. This was when she was in revival of her career from her legendary hits starting in 1960s. Only Aretha F has as many charted hits as Dionne, a living legend.
Jay, Barry Gibb wrote this song 😀😀😀😀 It was released in late 1982 and it hit #10 on the Billboard Pop charts in early 1983. I love this song!
Loved her back in the ‘60’s. “Walk on By” was one of my favs!! ❤
Mine too!! ❤
Such a pure voice. Always pleasant to listen to.
The other song you did previously written by the BeeGees was To Love Somebody- you reacted to Janis Joplin’s version. You should really try the BeeGees version of both songs. Heartbreaker they wrote in the 80s for Dion, but their version is great.
Immortality for Celine Dion and Chain Reaction for Diana Ross also Bee Gees songs.
Yes! Absolutely.
I second the comment about her work with Burt Bacharach in the late sixties: Say a Little Prayer, Walk on By, Do you Know the Way to San Jose. That was gold for the times. Well worth the listen.
Also Herb Alpert's "This Guy's In Love Witb You."
Love, love, love Dionne. You should check out "Deja Vu", "I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again", and her duet with The Spinners, "Then Came You".
This song was written by The Bee Gees. Oops didn’t realize Amber brings it up. Thanks Amber and Jay. I believe I suggested it. 😊✌🏼🦋💛
Yes! Written by The Bee Gees and at this age I see the resemblance to Whitney. Both beautiful ladies.
Dionne and The Spinners singing Then Came You has always been a favorite of mine. Incredible vocals from everyone!
One of my top 2 favorite songs ever. That song is an immediate mood changer.
I was raised on Rock. But I could listen to this lady over and over again. Thank you for this R.S.R. God Bless.
Starting around 1964, Ms. Warwick's collaborations with Burt Bacharach and Hal David would assure a hit record! "Don't Make Me Over", "I Say A Little Prayer", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Alfie", "Promises, Promises", "You'll Never Get To Heaven If You Break My Heart", "Anyone Who Had A Heart", just to name a few. They all had that signature easy-going Bacharach/David sound. If you heard the song, you almost always knew they wrote it!
As others have pointed out, this is a Bee Gees song! My favorite Dionne Warwick song is the iconic 'Do you know the way to San Jose?'. Give it a listen! She's aeesome.
The first song you listened to was That’s What Friends Are For
With Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight and Elton John !!! You guys really loved that one!!!
I'll never fall in love, again! Overlooked classic!
Dionne Warwick has a beautiful voice! You should check out Deja Vu Walk on By and Then Came You which featured Dionne with The Spinners. Dionne is Whitney Houston's first cousin!
Yes, Barry Gibb has that distinctive habit of seamlessly add a beat to a bar (or measure) without it all sounding strange. Or subtract a beat. But it always flows perfectly. To do that without making the song sound weird is musical genius.
Listen to Walk On By by her and Do You Know the Way to San Jose
A multi-Grammy legend from Motown days on and Whitney Houston’s aunt. She’s a powerhouse, this is a more subtle song given to her by the Bee Gee’s. You could do a lot of shows with just hits written by the Barry for others. The top would be Immortality with Celine & the Guilty album with Barbara (Celine & Barbara have an amazing duet - Tell Him).
they are first cousins (Dionne's mom is an older sister to Cissy Houston).
Correct! First cousins
Yes, Bee Gees wrote some really good stuff for other artists in the 80s. Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross and Kenny Rogers all had some of their career best with the Barry & Co songs.
Other songs for Dionne Warwick include Walk On By, Don't Make Me Over, Anyone Who Had a Heart, and Alfie.
"I say a little prayer for you", "I'll never fall in love again" ,"Do you know the way to San Jose?", "Then came you" with the Spinners Just of few of her many, many hits. What a voice!!! 🙃👍
Dionne Warwick ... Walk On By, loved this song so much over the years. Love her husky tone - no-one like her, instantly recognizable as the one and only. DW. 60's icon who did a lot of songs written for her by Burt Bacharach, another icon.
Ms. Dionne has so many hit claasics. They stretch a 100 miles long!! And no question, she does have the best and uniques voice period!!!!!❤❤. Bee Gee's and Clive Davis convinced Ms. Dionne to sing this. She really didn't want to do the song. She wasn't fond of it! What a masterpiece she turned it into! Only Ms. Dionne. Please more Ms. Dionne!! She is a vocal masterpiece!!
"Then Came You" by her and the Spinners is soooo good. A #1 from 1974.
Love Dionne Warwick! “I’ll never love this way again” and “Then came you” (with the Spinners!!!) are 2 more great songs
Her voice is one of the best. She is is Whitney Houston's cousin, and they share some similarities in their vocals, which you will hear if you check out any live version of Dionne Warwick singing her classic hit I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again. She will surprise you with the power of her voice.
Tidbit info: Dionne Warwick is 1st cousins with Whitney Houston and this song was written Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.
More from Dionne Warwick: "Do You Know the Way To San Jose," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Walk on By" "I'll Never Love This Way Again," and "Then Came You," a duet with The Spinners. Personnally, I'd go for "Walk on By" from the time when Dionne was singing Bacharach and David songs.
When this song was released I couldn’t stop listening to it, still one of my favs today. Love how Jay’s face lit up when Amber mentioned the Bee Gees!
The other night, I was watching the Clive Davis documentary on Netflix. Clive brought both Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin onto Arista Records and resurrected their careers. Both ladies were languishing with not having a hit in several years. Clive was able to talk Dionne and Aretha into joining Arista, and both ladies came back to win awards for songs that Clive found. Clive Davis was known as the man with the golden ear.
Only the best writing will do for a voice like Dionne Warwick's. Let her blow you away with her song "I’ll Never Love This Way Again". :D
My first concert was Dionne Warwick!! Whitney's cousin!
Yes, please react to Dionne Warwick’s early work. She’s got an AMAZING voice. The work she did with producer Burt Bacharach in the 60s are classic hits 😊
I absolutely love this woman and ALL her music! Ms Warwick and Burt Bacharach were a tour de force starting in the early 60s through the early 70s. Bacharach (6 Grammys & 3 Acadamy awards) is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who wrote hundreds of pop songs between the late 1950s and the 1980s. I believe they, together, basically created the "pop" music genre.
Ya, but Burt also had a female lyricist. I forget her name. They collaborated to create songs that only Dionne’s voice could carry off so effortlessly. 👏👍
She has a beautiful voice. She really didn’t want to do this song but your boy Barry convinced her to and it became one of her biggest hits. The Bee Gees did record it in the 90 s❤❤
Dionne's sister is Whitney Houston's mom. great singing family. She had a solo in 'We are the World" btw. Her first big hit was 'Do you know the way to San Jose' with Bert Barcarach.
Whitney's mother Cissy is Dionne's aunt. Dionne's mother was Lee and Lee and Cissy were sister, Lee being an older sister and Cissy being younger. Whitney and Dionne are first cousins despite their age gap.
She has such a pure voice!! One of my favorites from the 70’s.
Dionne Warwick was constantly on the radio with hit after hit. Fantastic artist.
I met Ms Warwick 5 years ago. We walked side-by-side for a little while and talked about music and joked around a little bit. I didn't get a chance to hold her hand or get that close but you could even feel the energy from a few feet away a real pleasure to be with.
Dionne Warwick is a sophisticated Lady. I love her voice and style.
She had great hits earlier.”I Say a little prayer”.”I’ll never fall in love again” “Do you know the way to San Jose” “ Walk on by” late 60s early 70s classics. Her clothes and general style was also awesome. She was great later also but in the late 60s and early 70s she was lightning in a bottle.
Another great Bee Gees's song🎶🎶🎶 Been listening to her since the early 70s. What a voice 🎶🎶🎶
Amber will likely love Dionne Warwick's "Walk on by". It showcases both Dionne's voice and awesome horns.
THE ORIGINAL QUEEN OF POP!
Aw, I knew you’d love it! Especially with that unmistakable Barry falsetto in the backing vocals! It’s truly hard to imagine looking back, but after Saturday Night Fever and Disco blew up, The Bee Gees were everywhere and suffered from overexposure. There was a real backlash against them. I never understood it at the time, but it was real. They never left the airwaves, but had to be more covert. This was one of the songs made during that time. They still would play it live and recorded it themselves years later. ❤️
Check out the Bee Gee's version as well. Dion does it so good, but it was written by the Gibb Bros and it is awesome! You can hear them backing her up on this song
"Do You Know You Way To San Jose" "Anyone Who Had A Heart" "I Say A Little Prayer" "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" "Walk on By" Dionne Warwick's aunt was Cissy Houston and she is Whitney Houston's cousin.
I've loved this song for 40 years and I like it more and more every time I listen to it, any version. Timeless classic!
I'm old - Dionne has been part of my life as long as I can remember. And yes - I do know the way to San Jose.
Dionne Warwick was one of the biggest female solo artists of the 70's. Many of her greatest songs have already been listed in the comments. I'd like to suggest: A House Is Not A Home. Then after reacting to this song I recommend you listen to Luther Vandross' tribute to Dionne of this song at the NAACP awards. show. . He takes the song to another level and Dionne loves it.
I have been waiting for them to react to more Luther Vandross songs especially that one. They only reacted to him once and to Gladys Knight and the Pips once. Great suggestion.
Please review Dionne’s “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?” or her duet with The Spinners “Then Came You”.
I always enjoyed Dionne Warwick and her unique, beautiful voice. She is also such a classy woman!
As you noted Amber, Dionne is a master of leaping through notes from top to bottom and back again. My favorite of hers is "Do you know the way to San Jose?"
Check out her songs...
"Love Power" (w/ Jeffrey Osborne. You should listen to him as a solo act, too.)
"I Say a Little Prayer" (her version is my favorite, and I love how it's featured in the movie " My Best Friend's Wedding.)
Dionne is from a family of great singers. She is the cousin to Whitney Houston and her mother, singer Cissy Houston.
"Deja Vu"
"Walk On By"
"Anyone Who Had a Heart"
"Don't Make Me Over"
Great list. Would also like to add "Message To Michael" and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose". She also sings a great version of "Unchained Melody".

Thank you. 🙂
I started to list "Do You Know...", but didn't want to edit it a second time. Maybe they'll see your reply and the comments from others who mentioned both songs. 👍🏽
A first cousin to the late pop superstar Whitney Houston, Warwick's mother and Houston's mother, Cissy, were sisters. Peace out.
Fact: the late Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) not only wrote this but the song was instrumental in reviving her career.
No wonder Andy Gibb co-hosted Solid Gold for a while. Interesting.
Uh.. The song was written by Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb.
It was written by Barry…
Didn't know that tidbit of info. Interesting.
