    SESSION DESCRIPTION: This presentation will delve into the detrimental effects of poor communication on the mental health of Black professionals working in predominantly white work environments. Through real-life examples and practical strategies, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by Black professionals and the role that communication plays in their well-being. Participants will leave with actionable insights to foster and practice inclusive and supportive communication practices that positively impact mental health.

    INSTRUCTOR BIO: Morgan Carey, a native of Richmond, Va is a compassionate Mental Health and Communication Coach and a certified Human Resources Director with 13 years of experience. She is dedicated to supporting individuals in achieving optimal well-being. With a deep understanding of the intersection between mental health, the workplace and effective communication, Morgan brings a unique blend of expertise to clients, group session participants, and employees. Through her experience in human resources, she has honed her ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics, and foster environments that prioritize employee well-being. As a Mental Health Coach and Human Resources Director, Morgan utilizes her empathetic nature and specialized training to provide personalized guidance and tools for managing stress, building resilience, and enhancing overall mental health. Morgan remains committed to destigmatizing mental health, creating safe workplaces, and facilitating positive change within organizations. For the past 4 years Morgan has served as the Human Resources Professional for DC Bilingual Public Charter School. Prior to that, Morgan served as a Bilingual HR Specialist in Employee Relations for BusBoys and Poets, in Washington, DC. As the Director of HR, Talent, and Diversity for DC Bilingual, Morgan utilizes her effective communication and Spanish skills to support and empower individuals to overcome challenges and unlock their full-potential. A breast cancer survivor, Morgan’s personal life story is one of resilience, and perseverance. Her ability to use her personal story and professional experience to showcase her passion for helping others is a true inspiration to those that are connected to her. As a black women leader in a non-black working space Morgan understands the specific challenges faced by black professionals and the intersectionality between poor communication and mental well being in the workplace. Morgan is committed to her mission to build bridges and empower communication that promotes healthy minds and positive connections.
