    Classes are good for an introduction to the sport, but nothing takes the place of individual instruction for polishing technique and learning the mental part of the game. Also an important thing to remember is that sport fencing is quite a different process from stage swordplay. Have fun; be safe.

    Tbh when you're fencing you're not gonna be thinking "oh its coming from down there, lets use parry 8!" I find its based more on instinct and reflexes

    • @jongib369
      @jongib369 8 років тому +7

      Practice it and you're reflexes for that defense will be better

      Vexylrei Exactly, parry 8 will NOT come from your memory just as planning a chemistry experiment works. it WILL come from your reflex and not a complex thought process, but it will still be parry 8

      Honestly if you know what is happening it shouldn't be just a reflex.Knowing what is happening or whats going to happen is key with parrys. If it's just a reflex, than you are not trying to learn your opponent. Basically your parry isn't really a defense, if you are trying to defend the best thing to do is to retreat The main goal of a parry is to turn your opponents attack against them.

      That's exactly why most martial arts have their defense and counters are memoized. So you don't really have to think about which defense to use while in combat since the body will do it for you automatically. Well I don't really know if that's true since it's my opinion based on my experience in Martial Arts.

      correct me if im wrong im a beginner fencer and i think the body has a natural instinct of how to defend itself so unless your full on memorizing the parry then i feel there is a higher chance to get the wrong parry

    I like to play dirty in fencing and make it look like im blocking to trick my opponent than go right in for the attack and win. Little tip if you wanna win the fight fast.

      If you "feint" a parry wouldn't you get hit first since your opponent initiated their attack earlier than yours? And doesn't the right of way requires you to defend yourself before you attack? (I don't know rules very well).

    Because it is about the student getting comfortable with the correct actions and points of target - they are not bouting, this is about structure.

    Parries 1 , 2 , 3 and 5 are for sabre if someone wonders why there's 4,6, 7 and 8, but not the first ones.

      1 through 8 existed for older fencing systems, its just that as time went on certain parries weren't deemed as necessary. Septime and octave accomplish similar functions to prime and seconde just with less changes in hand position so they can be utilised from guard more quickly and naturally

      FallenGrey they wrap protection around the tip so it’s not that pointy and doesn’t accidentally hurt your opponent too badly

    I'm pretty sure the high inside is 6, high outside is 4, low inside is 8 and low outside is 7, and not high in 4, high out 6, low in 7 and low out 8.
    At least that's what I've known and been taught in my 8 years fencing...
