Lately I've discovered it's not only about managing your time, but also managing your energy levels. Sometimes I wake up in the morning feeling like I've been hit by a bus, and feeling so low energy. I know then that I won't do anything difficult then, and my motivation is the lowest. And sometimes, I have so much planned for the day and I am excited, but I end up in the evening so depleted of energy and so tired that I simply cannot focus anymore. I think that you have to experiment and see what works best for your own case, as you have said.

tip #1 cut down distraction time (social media) - use a pamadoro timer (20 minute timer)
tip #2 focus on one task at a time
Exercise: 1. decide on non-negotiables (things you have to do)
    2. write down a list you'd want to do in your ideal week
negogiate the time you will spend on each task
    3. incorporate everything in a week worksheet
    4. make sure to leave time for rest
    5. n.e.t. time = no extra time (driving, showering while listening to audio books/podcasts for example)
-does the schedule look doable? if not, go back and rewrite. you don't have you do everything right now.
-try making a year schedule (like learning a new language this month, doing something else next month etc.)
I basically wrote here the main ideas from what she said while listening, without pausing the video. Hope this helps you to save some time & sorry for any mistakes!

A really good app for the tip you mentioned on timing for twenty minutes is 'Forest'. You set the timer and it keeps you from scrolling on your phone. If you stay on the app till the timer goes off, it 'plants' a tree. After a certain period of time, it actually donates trees in a different country. I really recommend it!

My problem is, that every time I write something in a calendar I feel like a rebel and don't want to do the stuff anymore :D

    • @pikachuiswatchingyou
      @pikachuiswatchingyou 7 років тому +60

I do the same thing. That's why I don't plan, but I remind myself of what has to be done on lists or sticky notes so that I don't forget. Also, I put a physical timer (not my phone!) for EVERYTHING, it allows me to focus on something intensely, I usually exceed the time allowed if it is task that cannot be interrupted but I do it faster and focus on it. I try to allow myself the time to do these things, wake up early and kindly refuse any invitation that would be bothering.

Started watching your videos while washing dishes today. This video is epic, I felt overwhelmed by how much I have to do, like its too much to attempt, and if i do, it will eventually overtake my life to the point I'm not enjoying myself anymore. But after laying out my schedule that I already had going, I am left over with 50+ hours in my week. Which is a total realization on how much time I waste. Thank you soooo very much for this! Def gonna check out more of your videos with this one being so helpful.

I am so fortunate to be one of the 200 people to get the Skillshare trail! I literally can not thank you enough! I've been out of college for so long and to relearn everything is daunting but you have inspire me to push through and finally give advertising/graphic design a second chance. So much of my personal life had threw me off track ... even though I don't know exactly I want to do with my degree I feel like if I still think about it, daily since I've stopped that must mean that I need to look into it and give it a shot and work on me. I've been thinking of taking the hit money wise and take a week off from my current job to focus and just decide/explore what I can do with my skills and my creativity. This could not have come at a better time. THANK YOU!!!!!

You really pushed a button somewhere in my brain. lol. Thank you for helping me with a healthier, nicer mindset.

Something I always find from scheduling out my weeks (even on a smaller scale, week-by-week basis) is that I have more time than I thought! I like to have something called an "Unscheduled To Do List", a technique borrowed from a teacher organization book I read, where you keep all of the things that are nice to do but not time-dependent on. My unscheduled list for my job includes making posters, attaching materials to student desks, setting up a new organization system in the class. When I see free time in my schedule, it's a great opportunity to look at that list and add one or two of the items into my schedule!
On an ideal-week schedule like you presented, you could set aside 15 minutes to half an hour once or twice a week for those kind of non-urgent to do items! Thanks for the great ideas!

There are also SOOOOO MANY things I'd love to learn, do, try, but "never have time for". Usually I'll end up midlessly watching TV... And REST is SO IMPORTANT! I adore this channel! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into teaching us how to become the people we want to be and do all the things we want to do! You're really great at making me want to get my life on track and after years of disorganisation and 'bumbling through', that's something pretty incredible. Thank you again!

This is so awesome, thank you!! xx Just filling out mine :) The only thing, I wish there was also a view for Monday - Suday type of a week, would be so helpful for those of us who use that planning format

tysm for this! I can see this being very helpful for me as I can actually plan things out day by day instead of having a daily schedule to stick to as that is impossible in my life where everyday is different :)

    Love this video!
Honestly bullet journaling has helped my time management so much. It really helped me be honest with myself about where I was and wasn't spending my time. I wish I had started bullet journaling while I was in school cause it makes priorities really obvious!

cyn I actually have a monthly set up video on my channel if you want to check it out!
For priorities, I don't have a list specifically for them. But when you write down your daily tasks, or goals everyday and then you look back at what you ended up finishing or not finishing from your daily to-do lists you see what it is you keep putting off and not making a priority. That way you can decide if it's worth it to you. If it's really important you need to see what it is you're putting a head of it and really reflect and decide if those things are more important to you than the task you've been trying to make a priority
      Hopefully that makes sense!

Talk about perfect timing! This topic of time management has been incredibly helpful along with your other amazing videos of lifestyle design. The ideal week planner is a great tool for breaking down the big vision projects into smaller, manageable steps :) Thank you, Aileen! I've been seeking a life coach to navigate through this lost phase, and it seems like your videos come up at precisely the right time. You and your channel are such gems, especially when it comes to subjects of life design and personal growth. You're a joy to watch!

    This video is amazing.
Though, I'm struggling because I love art, music (I play piano and guitar), reading and writing. I wake up at 8-9 Am and have a calm morning routine where I fit it meditating, stretching, breakfast and reading. And also spending time with my cat. However, after that my classes begin by 10 30 Am and end at 5pm with an hour break in the middle and 5-10 minute break in between each class. This semester I have 3 classes to take everyday, each for 2 hrs. So around 6-7 pm I start studying and submitting any activity or submissions needed to be done instantly. They give so many assignments and presentations whatnot. After this I I rest for an hr again as I do my prayers. By 8 I help my mom with some regular chores and do my exercises. That's when I have some time to do personal stuff but usually even then I'm busy doing college work. By 10 I need to help serve dinner and eat. After that I do more short meditation, try to fit it some peaceful piano practice or guitar and Journaling. I have so many other things I wish to do or things wish to do more for example I wish to focus more on my art as that is my greatest interest and unfortunately isn't what I'm studying. I don't understand what educational institutions are thinking. If they've forgotten students are humans too. Due to pandemic now we spend study time lecture time assignment doing time all on screen. It's damaging tiring and I don't know so far how to make it better. I'm sorry for the random rant.
