Stompin' Tom lives right outside my hometown Erin, Ontario. My girl actually just served him a cup of coffee the other day, said he's doin just fine!
Such a sad day in Canada. We lost an Icon yesterday. He may be gone but will never be forgotten, He will live forever in our hearts!
I met Stompin Tom in Wawa in 74. Took my kids to see him in the Sault, in 95.. We loved his tunes, out at camp.. RIP Stompin Tom!
These fellas were all such treasures and made their homelands proud. I may be a Yank from the States, but Stompin’ Tom is probably my favourite out of the bunch…well, after Hank. Can’t rob the Drifting Cowboy of his no. 1 spot. Still, Stompin Tom comes awfully close!
That's about the biggest honer you could give to Tom now that he is gone, this man I knew very well. drank with him a few times, got to go to his comeback party in Toronto being as my uncle was his lead guitar player then..this man was such a down to earth true Canadian. maybe the best Canadian ever...RIP Tom..your now able to see uncle Ronnie again..I sure wish I could hear you too once more. Sadly you will be missed by many inc myself.
Johnny cash rest in peace he will never be forgotten.
They are all wonderful. I would have loved to have met Johnny and June Cash, they were beautiful and natural people. I've met Stompin Tom's wife and son, and that was quite a treat. It's wonderful to share your talent for others to enjoy for years to come.
.
I'm sure there are plenty of country music fans
all over the world... you just have to know where
to find them... there must be a country western bar
somewhere in China.... :)
R.I. P Stompin' Tom ... I grew up
listening to all of your music!
.
.
Because.... Stompin' Tom has been a big legend
over in Canada for more than 40 years.
He's had gold records...and won many awards!
Does that answer your question? :)
.
.
You saved my favorite artist until last. Well done. Out of those 4 legends, Stompin Tom was the only one who could control their liquor!
A Canadian institution for sure. Will be truly missed!
Great artists, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Makes you realize how much the country has lost and how the future is so empty
Stompin' Tom has written hundreds of original songs.....
and in my opinion - he was very under-appreciated!
Tom had some fantastic tunes... and as far as caliber -
He had plenty of it.... he just wasn't PLUGGED in the USA
like those other 3 great artists!
Steve Walls STOMPEN TOM WENT TO NASHVILLE,BUT THEY WANTED TO CHANGE HIM AND HIS MUSIC,AND HE TOLD THEM TO SHOVE IT, CAME BACK TO CANADA AND BECAME A LEGEND, HE DID IT HIS WAY. THIS STORY IS IN HIS BOOK.
ALL OF TOMS SONGS TELL A STORY ABOUT THE HISTORY O CANADA THEY ARE A GREAT HISTORY LESSON.
In the last couple of years i have gained such an appreciation for Hank Geororge Conway and of course Charlie Prde
RIP BOYS COUNTRY MUSIC SURE MISSES THESE FOUR....................
HE'LL ALWAYS BE A LEGEND..
Not sure which one you are referring to but yes, that applies to all of them...
Great combination of legends ,too bad they never played on the same stage
!
That 50 stubby brings back some memories.
Thank You for sharing this!
Fantastic wow, sooooo great !!!!!!
RIP Stompin Tom!!!!! The pride of calgary.
Pride of Calgary? What are you talking about? He's from New Brunswick.
Skinners pond PEI
Pride of Canada!
I know this is old but last comment is less than a year old, so here we go. Stompin’ Tom was born in New Brunswick, where his closest blood relatives lived, he was born out of wedlock which was still a big social no no in the late 1940’s-1950’s. So his mother bummed and travelled all across Canada visiting family and friends when they could and by the time he was a few years old had travelled the country at least a few times, when back in NB or NS his mom was arrested for stealing food and separated him from his mother moving him in with a foster family in skinners pond PEI hoping the small island would keep him from trying to escape to travel or to find his mom until one day he escaped PEI headed to NFLD hoping they would think he went the opposite direction to the mainland. And from there bummed and travelled all over the country until he became famous at the horseshoe tavern. So by definition the man is a New Brunswicker, but more importantly if you’ve listened to even a quarter of his music or knew anything about the man (which aside from his songs, books and local stories/legends, I don’t know anything else about the man) but I’d bet my old cowboy hat and guitar if you asked him when he was alive where he was from he would have said something like “I am CANADIAN” because he viewed all of Canada as his home because that was his life “all of Canada”. I would like to point out two songs to reinforce what I have said 1. “The ballad of Stompin’ Tom” it’s basically his life story. 2. “My Stompin’ Grounds” where he basically answers the question everyone was asking him then and now “where do you call home?” His answer: “all across Canada”. And with Stompin’ Tom you can analyze the man through his music, because unlike most artists he wrote basically every song he sang and they we’re almost all based on his experience and knowledge (yea I know he did a few cover songs like “green, green grass of home” and I’m sure he had help writing some songs but it was mostly all him.). And that is why he earned the title of “The Canadian Troubadour”. Since I’ve gone this far I will continue, because his life story and music alone are obviously enough to make him a Canadian Legend or even a world wide music legend because that’s all most people know and talk about, but one of the greatest things about this man that is rarely talked about is his ground breaking and contribution to Canadian Music artists. When he got started none of the Canadian radio stations would play his music and was being told if he wanted on their station to go to the states like Nashville and have it recorded there because they have the best recording tech and will sound good on our station. Well Mr. Connors being a proud Canadian thought it was ridiculous and insulting that a Canadian artist had to travel to a different country just so he could record his music to effectively promote and sell his music in HIS country, so he put a list together of the recording equipment they were using at I believe the RCA recording studio in Nashville. He bought the equipment and set up a recording studio and publishing company in Toronto and they would take on any Canadian artist no matter their genre of music. Even after this when taking his music that was recorded with the best tech of the time the radio stations still would give him the same line and he would call them on their BS saying how his music was recorded on the same equipment that they were playing the likes of George Jones on their station, but eventually he was able to get on a few stations and it grew from there. Now Canadian music artists always have been and still are to an extent forced to to move or frequent travel to the USA for a chance to have a career in music or remain here to starve doing what they want or go get a job they don’t want. A lot of the artists that signed up with them may not have become super famous and rich but it gave them a chance and turned many from “starving artists” to at least artists that could pay rent and buy groceries and still make a career of what they love. Because until he did it was basically unheard of a Canadian artist to have their music played on the radio in Canada without having recorded and touring abroad to the USA or Europe. So to every Canadian Music artist today that is able to make a living without leaving Canada can thank basically only one man,... Mr. Stompin’ Tom Connors.
@@kylestewart9004 wow! I have read his life story but I don’t recall hearing about the recording studio and end results. More kudos for Stomping Tom!
You couldn't have picked four better representatives of the genre. Hank, Johnny, George and Stompin' Tom. That's pretty much as good as it gets. I remain inconsolable about Stompin' Tom's passing. A true hero in every sense of the term.
MikeBlitzMag LISTEN TO HIS SON, HE SINGS JUST LIKE HIM. HADR TO TELL THE DIFF.
Some of the best music ever recorded! Thank you for uploading!!!!!!
Much love to you Canadian folks from the NY border 🍻🦅
DAVE GROHL from the foo fighters knew who stompin tom was and mentioned him with the most respect, i was surprised that a famous American rocker like him knew of Tom ,
A company in Sudbury, Ontario
is paying to have a great big statue of
'Stompin' Tom" displayed for all to see ....
It's going up very soon ! ! ! !

+Steve Walls That statue should be "really made of IT", just like the original clock!

Hank, George, Johnny, and then Stompin' Tom steals the show with "still another dang twang" before He hocks "Old Lukes Guitar". Tom's Clever Lyrical Play, wry East Coast Humour and Stage Command have the Audience Enthralled. A Canadian Folk Giant!
thanx for including our Bhie !!....he was that good...RIP Tom!!
WOW!!!
This is awesome.....
thanks for putting this up!
4 great legends!!!!
aw.Hank &George!!..The first 2 people I want to see in Hillbilly Heavean.👍
Stompin' Tom sure stands out alone among these great singers and no offense to the others, just different sound in music all around.
You should come to PEI if you want to experience singers like him
have been
Man smoking in a bar reminds me of the days when my Mom N Dad,Aunt n Uncle owned the Domminion Hotel in Carstairs Alberta.
+john schober I love those old Prairie hotel chains. Somebody should "resurrect" 'em, just as they were, restored as historically accurate as possible, market the whole thing as a "bed & breakfast" - I'd bet a lot of Japanese tourists would pay to trek around on the old rodeo circuits, rent 'em an old pickup truck & wardrobe from the western-wear etc etc. Like one enormous "dude ranch" ha-ha. Sound crazy, I know. But hey, at least that way the rates would be high enough to keep all of the meth heads from moving in. It's almost possible to romanticize the old WINO generation who hung on in the Cecil Hotels, the Alec Arms in Lethbridge - but THIS generation of recreational dopers won't lend itself to tomorrow's Nostalgia....
john schober shout out from carstairs alberta
OK; you're telling me that Country music has no fans anywhere outside of North America.
I'll just wait fort others to comment. This oughtta be good...
Saw Stompin' Tom at the Carleton Place arena a few decades ago. Population 5000, and everyone was there or partying in the parking lot. Big Joe Mufferaw brought all 5000 into the arena. Johnny Cash at the Ex.
Thank you for the news.
Awesome Compilation....Thanks fer it ....Good Work !!!
.
It's ok... I don't think you're picking a fight.
You see, I grew up in Canada....and my father
has a lot of old Stompin' Tom albums...
so I guess in my eyes, Tom is right up there
with Hank, George and Johnny ....
but you're right... he's not usually
showcased with artists who are so
well recognized world-wide....
however, it is nice to see that
Tom's gaining a much bigger audience
in the U.S.A than he had years ago. :)
.
love it! Thanks a bunch!
Four Legends, may they be jammin in heaven....
xxoa
Stompin Tom is a staple in Canada.
Muk tuk annie is gold.
I love the Cameo to the bottle of Labatte 50 in the stubby at the end of Stompin Tom's song. Neer heard that song before tho. I like it and may cover it.
You forgot that you have a fifth country music legend o the video. The young woman who sort of introduced Hank Williams was June Carter.
Not trying to pick a fight here, friend, but if everyone who was invited to appear on Conan were compared in equal stature with Cash, the Possum or 'ol Hank, then one in every 50,000 people would be a country legend.
That'd make about 120,000 Hanks. But I do like Conners' music; he's a great performer.
Look for a song on UA-cam called " Ballad of Stompin' Tom"
I've got it uploaded .... it's Tom's life story! :)
.
June Carter is to funny RIP June and Johnny and of course RIP Hank
the mount Rushmore of country if ya ask this guitbox picker
hey...how ya doin....just open up browser and type in "George Jones-Love Bug Lyrics" and it'll come right up
Sad news, RIP Stompin' Tom Connors - 2/9/1936 -- 3/6/2013
good show
You're saying that country western music has no fans worldwide? Boy, what'r you smokin'? Travel to Great Britain, Europe, most of Asia and Africa, South America and (hoo-boy) Australia, and you'll hear pickin', grinnin' and wailin'.
Ever heard of Buck Owens? One of the biggest live albums in country music history was recorded by Buck in Japan. The annual country jamboree in Wembley is bigger than anything like it in the US.
I could go on, continent-by-continent, but I'm out of characters...
TheRogerThatBand THAT'S A TRUE FACT.
I don't disagree with you....
but at the same time, I don't
see it as a major insult to those
other great artists, either!
It would be way more
insulting...if a local nobody was
showcased in this video- but believe me,
Tom Connors has paid his dues.....
He even got invited on the Connan Obrien Show
for being such a legend over in Canada!
Download some of his music-
and maybe you'll enjoy some of his work!
I still respect your point of view!
.
as a Canadian, i did not even know Hank Snow was from Canada, everybody knows Stompin Tom is though.
Holy fuck boys , this is fucking awesome
How dare you say those words! I love Johnny Cash and all the legends! Plus what did i say to you?!! Fuck! I will always be accepted to the kingdom.
More power to ya. And please understand I'm a southern boy who loves Canada.
But for me (and perhaps a few billion others), this is a case of "what's wrong with this picture?"
Actually, im 12 and i listen to only these guys and im laughing at YOUR assumption right now! xD
I miss George
Somehow, George Jones looks like Jim Carey imitating George Jones.
Labatts 50" Stuby bottles...Yea!
yay
GLD
Yep, sure does. Don't think he quite fits into a pattern of international recognition as the three others. Local legend along with three immortals...no way.
What side are you on? Ampxxx's or something? Or do you support us the country legends fans?!
@SteveWallsable @proudcanadian39 If you want to showcase a Canadian legend alongside Williams, Jones and Cash, why not put Hank Snow up here?
are you talking about Lovebug or The Race is On ??
America talks about Woody Guthrie being the fold singer of all time. Canada knew better. Tom Conners - proud Canadian and greatest songwriter.
fuc yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!
"worldwide, country western is generally unknown" - Hey, please get in touch with me. I have a bridge in the Sahara Desert that you'd probably be interested in buying.
PJProducer I'M THINKING ALL YOU KNOW IS THE DESSERT.
I think Johnny might not have had the cure yet, bit too much trucker speed lol
who is better than george jones?
berger meister IN THIER OWN WAY ,THEY WERE ALL GREAT AND LOVED BY ALL WHO LISTENED TO THIER MUSIC.
they are fans of none of these, , worldwide, country western is generally unknown.
Ampxxx99 I DONT THINK YOU HAVE TRAVELLED AT ALL OR YOU WOULD KNOW THAT'S WRONG.
Who the hell is Stomping Tom Conners, and why the hell is he here with three legends?
right now in China, a billion people are saying "who the f@ck is hank williams?" get my point?
I still dont know what i ever said to you...
How'd you get the notion that a billion Chinese people are Stompin' Tom fans?
I appreciate that, but these are people whose names are household words in every corner of the globe. Is it fair to the legacy of Williams, Cash and Jones to add Conners' name to their list? Hank Snow is certainly an artist of the same stature.
I could make a similar claim that David Allen Coe belongs in that stream of names, but it only dilutes their significance.
Likewise, Conners is surely talented, but let's be honest, he's a regional legend. Be fair to Cash, Williams and Jones.
Are you really comparing, George Jones, Cash, and Hank to Stompin Tom ?
Ya he's a great Canadian, BUT no were near there caliber.
Just a thought ???
your 12, what do you know? XD
most people under 40 are laughing at your assumption right now. Its backwater music, get out of 1978. no offence.
Ampxxx99 TO EACH HIS OWN, DON'T KNOCK SOMEONE ELSE, BECAUSE THEY LIKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.YOU NEED TO GROW UP SON.
