Great clip. Two towering giants of country music. One died much too young, victim of the demons in his life. The other, from the family of the earliest country music traditions, helped Johnny Cash find salvation from his demons and, together, they touched a whole generation with decades of great music. Thanks for sharing it.

To be fair, his demons came about mostly because of the pain with health issues. Spina bifida occulta can cause awful pain. Modern medicine could have potentially stopped his pain.

Love Hank Williams music. When I was 11 ( I’m 69 now) I swapped my Red Rider BB gun for my older brothers acoustic guitar from Sears and walked into town and picked up his guitar song book . I saw his picture on the cover and knew this guy was a Cowboy lol. The first song I learned was “ I Saw The Light “ and sang it in church the next Sunday. I still have that guitar and Hanks song book today !

Guitars and wanted to use drums... He already had the moves & Songs.. Only thing that he didn't have was Elvis' looks... Lol

Fascinating, what honest and amazing entertainment. Exposing the world to a rich and beautiful cultural heritage. Too bad this level of innocence is gone now. My dad was born and raised in the Ozark mountains and this is what he knew and loved. This is a part of our culture that has been lost and will probably never return, except in imitation.

Yes, the Irish and Scots were the first major group to settle the southern regions of the US. They brought along their folk music and dances. Country music is the evolution from those early tunes. Listen to groups like the Chieftans and then listen to early... and I do mean EARLY country recordings, like the Carter Family and all... you'll hear the connection.

This is how I feel. I'm 23 years old, and 2 years ago I found a big ol' bin of my grandpa's old records, bunch of waylon, willie, Charlie Daniel's band, David Allen Coe, and other types of country vinyls were in it, I took it home and listened to Guy Clark "desperados waiting for a train" and I cried my eyes put haha. Had an overwhelming feeling as I spun it, thinking the last person to play it was my Grandpa who had passed before I really got to ever meet him. So I often thank Grandpa Dan for leaving behind these gems for someone to find haha, and am greatful that I happened to be the one to find em. Ever since falling down the country rabbit hole I still haven't got out of it haha

Country music is an acquired taste - if you are not born into that tradition - and one, alas, that I have never quite acquired - but Hank lifts the genre to a whole different level. You can hear in his sings the early stirrings of rock n roll and he had that indefinable quality in his voice that we wuold later hear in Buddy's and Elvis'.

Jimmy was a man who wouldn't tell a lie if his life depended on it. A true mentor to me with my steel playing.

Johnny Cash's first wife was Vivian Liberto, they had 4 daughters, including Rosanne Cash. "Vivian says the two main things that destroyed her marriage to Johnny were “drugs and June Carter,” more so June than the drugs."
“Once June came along, she relentlessly - well, she wanted Dad and she was going to get him,” says Cindy. “And she did. She made herself very available, to where he pursued her back.”
n the book, Vivian confesses that she never stopped loving Johnny, and she regrets that she didn’t try harder to save their marriage, saying “I should have been relentless at saving it, as relentless as June was at destroying it.”

Another one of Hank Williams songs I grew up with after love sick blues. This was country when it was real country. How could you not love this kind of music and entertainment. Even if you're not in such a great mood it puts you in a good mood. These people are fantastic all-time greats.

I had forgotten he was only 29 years old when he passed. It`s so sad to lose someone that young.

This is awesome. I love country music, along with bluegrass and fiddle music.
That’s what I grew up with. I learned how to yodel and still do lots of that..

I’m a huge Johnny Cash fan and I have my own country band. One of my most requested songs is Folsom Prison! I am very grateful that even though Cash did drugs off and on he lived to be quite old.
