  • Debuting in Japan in 1996 as Pocket Monsters Red and Green and reaching Western shores by 1998 as Pokémon Red and Blue, this role-playing series about catching creatures with fabulous powers and then making them beat each other up quickly became a pop culture sensation, and it has enjoyed a level of success unmatched by any other video game franchise before or since. For this countdown, we’ve ranked all 151 original entries in the Kanto Pokédex based on their abilities in battle, rareness, easiness to catch, and their popularity in the gaming world and beyond. We’re basing our assessments on their stats and abilities in those original games, so any increases or decreases in power they may have suffered in future instalments will not be taken into account. Here are All 151 1st Gen Pokémon Ranked From WORST To BEST.

Well with Alakazam-line you absolutely got all wrong. It's oftten considered the 2nd best Pokemon after Mewtwo in Gen 1. Psychic is the most overpowered thing in gen 1 because there are no counters. Ghost types in Gen 1 are also poison types and psychics are super effective against those.

    • @mscottjohnson3424
      @mscottjohnson3424 5 місяців тому +6

@@Siferatu I think they're ignoring Special entirely. They said Rapidash has powerful Fire moved that hit extra hard due to its high Attack stat. That's false even after the Special Attack/Defense split.
Chansey, even after the split, is a Special wall, and Alakazam is shredding anything without decent Special Defense with STAB Psychic.
Chansey and Alakazam are nerfed in Gen 2 onward, but not bottom 25 nerfed! The only way Paras beats Alakazam is if you ignore Special entirely and ignore that Paras leans no offensive Bug moves in Gen 1.

  • @mscottjohnson3424

18:02 Um, what? Alakazam is one of the best Mons in the game. It has wicked high Special and being weak to only Bug Type in Gen 1 means it's not weak to anything. Anyone who watches Jrose 11's single Pokemon playthroughs knows Alakazam is ranked #2 just behind Mewtwo. Gen 1 Psychic is OP, and Alakazam is the best Psychic Type you can get more than 1 of.
There's a reason your Rival has an Alakazam in his party, because it's a very difficult Mon to deal with, especially if you don't outspeed.

    • @pot_of_greed2414

You mean Alakazam/psychic types only weak against bug ?!
3rd & 4th gen psychic is worst against well trained (PvP) or higher level ghost, bug & dark type Pokemon or PP moves . Then again I'm not doubting your favorite choice because I used to clone TM's and used certain TM's that can be learn on my pokemons to defeat the opposite strength Pokemon's.
If you didn't know certain water types (not the ground & water) can learn earthquake against none flying electric types, grass & poison types and steel types.

    • @mscottjohnson3424

@@pot_of_greed2414 sure, Psychic got nerfed in Gen 2 with the intro of Dark type and a few stronger Ghost and Bug Type moves. But in gen 1, Psychic was immune to Ghost (programming error) and the strongest Bug type move was Pin Missile, a move only learned by Beedrill and Jolteon, the latter not even getting STAB with it.
Psychic in Gen 1 had virtually no weaknesses.

Sorry but you got Alakazam absolutely wrong. Psychic is by far the most overpowered thing in Gen 1 aside from Mew & Mewtwo, Alakazam is the strongest Psychic and thus the 3rd strongest Pokemon overall. In fact the only weaknesses it had was Bug (which is laughable) and Ghost which doesn't exist as the only Ghost Pokemon are also Poison which Psychic is super effective against. And in Gen 1 there were hardly any bug or ghost moves either. That plus Special being one stat instead of Special Attack & Special Defend meant that with 120 speed and 135 Special he could kill almost everything with one move.
In fact Alakazam & the Psychic type was so overpowered that for Gen 2 they thad to invent another counter in Dark type.

      @mscottjohnson3424 5 місяців тому

@@skystreak1983 True. What I said was Gen 1 only had one move that deals Ghost type damage, and that's Lick. Confuse Ray doesn't deal damage and in Gen 1, all moves that deal a set amout of damage (Night Shade, Dragon Rage, Seismic Toss, Sonic Boom, Super Fang, etc) ignore typing.
So Night Shade can still damage Normal type Pokemon and is not super effective against Ghost type pokemon because despite being a Ghost type move, it doesn't deal Ghost type damage in Gen 1.
The glitch in Gen 1 was that Ghost was supposed to be super effective against Psychic, but by mistake it didn't affect Psychic at all. But you can still damage Psychic pokemon with Night Shade since it doesn't deal Ghost type damage in Gen 1.

Hitmonchan might learn the elemental punches but those are special attacks, not physical. And guess what Hitmonchan's worst stat is...yeah, special. So, why those moves are super effective, since their pulling from Chan's special stat, they end up being worse than a regular move from Hitmonchan. If the pokemon you're fighting is weak to an elemental punch but has strong special defense, it might be better to go with a physical attack instead, double-y so if that pokemon's defense is low.

I've never had major issues with a list on this, one of my favourite channels, until now. It was a mess. From the lack of taking the Special stat into account at all to putting the Gen 1 world-beater Alakazam in the 130s to putting Starmie (the most versatile Pokémon to have in the original Stadium) at 75. It pains me to say this, but it really doesn't feel like this list reflected the state of the Pokémon as they were in Gen 1.

Any Pokemon tier list that puts *Alakazam* -
the Alakazam that helped break the gen 1 games, that became a staple one-shot sweeper in the gen 2 games (thank you Psychic and the elemental punches), and that remained an incredibly respectable glass canon in every subsequent generation it appeared in (especially once it got a mega evolution and some solid attack type diversity)
    - at *137* out of 151 is one that seems to seriously misunderstand how Pokemon works. Below Nidoran? Below Pidgey?? But I like listening to you guys comment on each of the mons, so I'll drink to that at least. Cheers! 👍

I enjoyed the pacing and the script very much. This is a very strange list with numerous inaccuracies and oversights
Edit: this is still the best Kanto ranking tier list for me, because the other lists I’ve found are even more wild with their criteria and/or base ranking on like “general vibe”.
But just be aware that Rhydon goes down to a single surf like 80% of the time, and a level 50 Alakazam can take down most of the elite four with psychic

As fun as watching TJs list, its talking about highly debatable lists such as these.
By no means they could've made everyone agree with their script here, but even then some things are REALLY off:
-Alakazam (as well pointed out in the comments already) by no means should be that low. In fact, its the opposite: Its one of the most OP and overused mons on the competitive meta of Gen I due to its having almost no counters alongside offering very good stab (No dark types, the only ghost (Gengar) being OHKOed by it, etc). I advise you all not to try your luck using the rant on 'trading evolutions' while dismissing Scizor on Gen II list 😅
-Chansey: Another commonly used mon on Gen I's meta thats way too low on the list. If rightfully used, can be an almost undefeatable Tank/staller, given how weak Fighting types are on this gen.
--Jynx : Its comprehensible having it low on the list due to its problematic design, but also have in mind that Jynx grants a free pass on beating the dragons of Elite four by being the fastest ice attacker of the game. So, all and all, its still offers a good reward for its owners gameplay wise.
    - Jolteon: Should be higher, or at least better than the other eeveelutions. The argument on the script was about its supposedly poor movelist, but its the 2nd fastest mon with THUNDER we're talking about, and it learns the move at a relatively low lvl. Not an uncommon choice on meta due to its stab, unlike (per say) gen I Flareon.
-Mewtwo: Should be nº1. The most powerful mon from the most OP type of the game.
On opposite, mons that could/should be lower: Lickitung, Geodude's entire evolution line, Onix, Magmar, Wigglytuff
All things considered, list should've settled itself on mon popularity instead on trying to get a hold on both popularity+Meta and failing on it since one tends to contradict another.
Said all that, list was entertaining, tho. ;)
