Tips That Helped Me Pass My Checkride

  • While flying from Sherman (KSWI) back to my home airport (F69) after meeting a buddy for lunch, I was remembering how much prep I put into passing my checkride and how smoothly it ended up going. Most student pilots are nervous about passing their checkride, but the reality is that your DPE is there to make sure you can fly to the minimum standards and is NOT looking to fail you.. so you can relax. I watched a couple of mock check rides posted below and it helped get me ready for the kinds of questions I would get during the oral exam. As far as the flight portion, either you can fly to standards or you can't... so don't sweat that part if you've been practicing.

First off, great video. Appreciate the advice. Second, funny, you should mention ghost image. Just had that happen yesterday and it freaked me out. The ghost image was my own plane but in ForeFlight we were on a collision! That about stopped my heart. First time I’ve seen that.

Yeah, my CFI really focused on looking for planes with my eyeballs…. ADSB has failed me more times than I can count

Australian here who passed their check ride back in July 2022. I will be flying in the US next couple weeks with a friend from f69. I definitely notice a different in the way check rides, they don’t seem to penalise you as much for being chatty with them. If it’s outside the scope they sometimes make it a teaching moment. I guess it depends how fundamentally wrong you are with your information.

It's a nice video but if you leave at the end of the video a summary typed on the screen about all the points that you would like us to learn it will be more helpful and informative while it's fun to watch you flying thanks

Good video, I'm about halfway though my private. Haven't flown in a few months due to being busy and the weather being bad.

Short field landings are intimidating for me, as far as the checkride is concerned. Have any tips? Thanks

I just posted a video with a tip to understand how much energy is still in your plane when you pull power…. It’s helpful but practice is the best tool…. AND. Practicing with your instructor in the plane . It’s amazing what removing the weight of an adult does to your landing profile in a 172

Yikes! CFI faults your traffic scan bub. Diverting your attention to make a youtube vid? NOT COOL.
