We feel for you Jay! Boy that was a tough one. Yep, by the 8 or 9th time we pretty much all got that "it's 90% based on the Colorado ZR2 and meant to carry 9 people in and out of the fight as quickly as possible". But Jay was really trying. Jay: "Hey! this thing's got manual shifting capabilities" Steve: "Yep, "it's 90% based on the Colorado ZR2 and meant to carry ....." Jay: 'Hey, the power steering is really sweet" Steve: "Yep, "it's 90% based on the Colorado ZR2 and meant to carry ...." Jay (Internal voice): Never Mind...
I was curious what the comments would be like on this particular episode. I was glad I was not disappointed.
Jay: what do you like to eat for lunch?
GM Guy: well Jay, with all the investments GM has done we can get a commercial grade GM lunch.
That would be an army specification GM lunch.
Dude must be so nervous around Leno and the cameras he's lapsing into his sales pitch. Leno may as well be a colonel.

Absolutely, those of us old enough remember the CUCV family of GM junk that replaced the M151/M880 series of vehicles too.

I'm only ten minutes in and I'm already bored with his sales talk. It doesn't matter what Jay asks him, he answers with the points he wants to talk about.

The GM rep. never answered any of Jay's questions with yes or no. Instead just did a lot of talking which ultimately didn't answer the question. That's frustrating. This guy is just irritating. And what the heck is a "war fighter," is that anything like soldier?
war fighter is meant to include others like mercenaries or irregulars who are not official soldiers but might find themselves in combat
If you say "soldier", you disrespect the sailors, airmen, and Marines who also would use the vehicle. "Warfighter" is a general, catch-all term.
Warfighter may mean robot. That floor mounted rail system wasn't designed just to slide stretchers in.
It’s a generic term to cover all branches of the military. Soldier, airmen, marine, seamen, etc. Don’t forget your pronouns

Poor Jay! Every time he has some corporate guy on he can't get a straight answer to any questions. This suit is just loaded up with BS marketing talk. It seems like he even wants to talk to Jay like a real person, but if he doesn't hit all of his "talking points" he'll probably get in trouble. So they turned a pickup into a big dune buggy that runs on lamp oil. Cool enough I guess.

There have been plenty of un armoured vehicles throughout history and in current service, not everyone gets an APC and not everyone needs an APC.

@@ArtVandelayOfficial like most other vehicles, including armoured ones. an ambush is deadly no matter the vehicle. MBT's don't operate without infantry for a reason
No protection in this case may mean the soldiers can utilize their weapons while moving. Imagine multiple soldiers aiming at multiple targets....
I was in the Army when the Hummer was new and it had a clumsy 100hp v8 diesel and it didn’t have any protection....

Steve duMont from GM Defense sure liked to flash his Class Ring for the camera. When I was in the military we called them "ring knockers". 😀
I noticed that too! I am of the opinion that you can only wear your class ring for so long and then "retire" it. In my case I have my class ring from Engineering school in a box. One day I plan to make a shadow box with the ring in between my Degrees (I have two). I currently wear my Alumni signet ring which is MUCH more "subdued"...

I have worked on and been a primary instructor for the GMV 1.1 Flyer Vehicle in the SOCOM community since 2016. Before that I was building some prototypes for the 1.1 at MSG. I have known the vehicle since it,was a prototype brought to group. GM won this for political reasons and not capabilities.
I would assume this holds true for most military contracts

I am a huge Jay Leno‘s garage fan and look forward to the new shows every Monday morning but…. This was the first time that I felt like fast forwarding to the end just to be done with it. Sorry Jay, this vehicle was not worth your time. There is nothing extraordinary about it

The military puts out a request with requirements. GM builds a vehicle to meet those requirements. The fact it doesn't protect the occupants from IEDs is not GM's decision.

That looks like a very fun time! I wish I was riding along with them! I hope GM makes a version for civilians. Thanks Jay and GM for showing us this vehicle! It's interesting to learn about military vehicles I wouldn't normally see. Thank you Jay for always teaching us about vehicles. 🙂
Democrats would call it an assault vehicle and try to ban it because it only comes in one color.
I did route clearance in Iraq and we would be in heavily armored vehicles some of which were over 60,000 pounds. They were actually talking about doing patrols on foot because both military built and devices built in mud huts could both defeat the armor and it would hurt all of the occupants as opposed to spreading everyone out over a larger area having people 30 m apart on foot.

I am struggling to get through this video. Every time Jay asks a simple question, this guy rambles off on a tangent like he doesn't even know the answer. He ruins this video.

That isn't "leveraging", it's simply promotion. which is that guy's JOB.
An interesting concept...turning light infantry into modern-day dragoons. This vehicle greatly increases the deployment (LZ) options of airborne / heliborne troops... an ISV, in less than an hour, could cover distances that would take whole day of hard marching on foot (been there, done that).
Better still, the removes the 'predictability' that an enemy uses to defend against air-inserted forces, _that_ alone increases the survivability of air delivered assets...and mission success.
I'm just mad that salesman used the word LETHALITY in a sentence. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #bars🤣🤣

Interesting vehicle. There seems to be a lot of repeated comments (reuse of GM commercial parts, investment by GM, etc) which could’ve been edited to make this more relevant. Came across more like a commercial for GM Defence.
User manuals are also written in Pashto so the taliban will know how to operate it effectively

@@nobodynoone2500 Not sure I agree with you there. Have you ever seen an electric rig on trail? They are many times more efficient at covering ground than the most efficient diesel. The drawback is on the road at high speeds, not on trail - they are in their element there - torque is linear, and massive, you don't have parasitic parts for extra friction and you don't have to rev-up to get traction. You're not wasting energy at "idle". Compared to a gasser, they go a long ways. They're also safer, (if not pouch battery pack), and they don't leak in case of a rollover.

@@nobodynoone2500 For long expeditions, sure, I'd use diesel. For single-day stealth missions, definitely electric. Albeit in a couple of decades batteries will be so dense, and photovoltaics so efficient, that that's also gonna change.
I thought the lesson of Afghanistan was up-armoring the fleet of Humvees. It looks like this vehicle carries more soldiers and less gear than a Humvee, and goes much faster. I’m just a lowly civilian watching military issues play out on the news. If the Army wants this, then it’s great. I hope it delivers on its mission and that our soldiers are transported safely 100% of the time. I don’t quite understand how this fits into a world of MRAP’s and drones.
Army ordered 649 (that’s an odd number) makes me think they will be used as a transport vehicle around a base. Not so much in action.

Never a straight answer, I truly dislike these type of self promoting videos, a video about an ordinary vehicle with Jay's detail to history is much more interesting.

The lack of an answer is the answer - it burns a lot of fuel compared to civilian vehicles. But military vehicles always do.

Have you ever owned an MGB sport car? I had a 1972, it was always in the shop. Is there a good year for that car that is more dependable? I loved that car when it was running good.
