But think about it. The only reason we care so much about the Slavia is because of its ground clearance. It doesn't really bring that much new to the table. The similarly priced Elantra is bigger and has an engine of the same power, and the more expensive Octavia, Superb and Camry are more powerful, more luxurious and just flat out better cars. It's pretty sad, but I think the reason people like the Slavia is because it is the most SUV-ish sedan on sale.
The thing I feel is that not many people like to pull their cars to the redline, they prefer to drive sedately, but they really appreciate a well connected steering. They like to push the car with it's handling, not the engine.
Finally, someone said this. About time automotive journalists and wannabe automotive journalists understood that not every "enthusiast" is hell bent on going flat out in a passenger car. We like to cruise and appreciate the machine over time.
You are right. But can’t put a number on it. The most sales are for people who drive normally tho. Most people in this range are not enthusiasts. I like Honda for the manual transmission. But I know most I know prefer automatic for the convenience.
Being owner of City myself, I can say with much confidence that its an excellent package, Slavia does tick a few boxes extra but then trails behind City in other areas. Both are great offerings with different character. The only weak point of Honda City is its ground clearance, I have countless experiences of bottom of my car scratching, speed-breakers and potholes.
Same, apart from GC and AVN I will still go for City anyday. I did manage to get 17 KMPL in highways using Zx CVT. Moreover you know your car will run for atleast 20 years without major issues. Waiting for Hev Zx CVT model launching on 14th. That will break the bone of Slavia in terms of power and milage.
I would say that this is the most FIRECE battle I have seen in the automobile industry. Both cars have their own Pros and cons Both cars are brilliant in almost all aspects Both cars are feature loaded Both cars are fun to drive Slavia has better Ground Clearance is the toughest point for City to break City has surround view cameras, better equipped lower variants Its very tough for customers to decide between these 2 sedans.
The difference in fuel economy is huge at ~20% and this IMO is not a number one can ignore. If the coming hybrid is priced right, the Honda City will remain the champ for the foreseeable future.
For people with a lower budget, the base model of the City makes more sense than the base Slavia. And for people with some serious cash reserve, the Slavia 1.5 TSI is unbeatable.
I took test drives of both City and Slavia. Couple of times actually. My verdict was that City is a much more mature car. It feels comfortable both in ride and drive, spacious and has all the things that actually matter. Skoda while looked great could not generate the confidence while driving. It does pack the goodies but again the level headed choice made me go to City. Brought home the beauty a couple of days back :)
Sedans have come and gone. CITY has stood its ground and it always will. CITY will run from Kashmir to Kanyakumari while Slavia will be parked in a Skoda workshop. That’s Honda reliability. ❤️
Nice of you to assume that it isn't reliable lol. Have been using VW/Skoda cars from 2011. Their maintenance was higher back then. But parts costs have been significantly reduced
@@adarshbhavsar122 I have two VW cars, been driving one for past 10 years not once has it been unreliable. This old, outdated idea that only Japanese car makers make reliable cars is parroted a lot in arguments. All automobile companies have come a long way in providing great value and reliability.
I would definitely buy the tried, tested & trust worthy City than Slavia. Would buy any new Cars only after 2 years of their launch. Until than let them iron out defects, faults & realign their feature lists. People who buy at the launch would feel cheated as the corrections & feature offerings changes after 1 or 2 years without any change in pricing.
City brings in the option of a diesel. Running a turbo petrol in start stop traffic would bankrupt the common man. Kudos to Honda for keeping the diesel option available. For larger cars a diesel is still a better buy as it gives a far better FE.
City would be my choice. 1)Reliability = Peace of mind and VAG products are just unnecessarily complicated. 2)Would take the extra cylinder over the turbo due to refinement, fuel efficiency and lower maintenance. 3)The manual tranny on the honda is superb, the ratios are unnecessarily long but the shift quality is excellent. 4)I also expect better dealer network and decent spares availability from honda compared to skoda.
Great comparison from autocar. No wonder they are the most reputed auto media house in India. Bought honda city for my parents looking for a comfortable and reliable car. Me being an enthusiast will buy slavia/virtus with 1.5 TSI and DSG.
Being an VW Owner. All i have to say Buying European is like Paying Full ON-Road price as Down Payment. and Service & Repair cost as Installments. In the end,Value justified.
City is the best, milage, customer service, engine refinement, that vtech!!!!! And don't get me started on the "luxury feel" and driving comfort!! Amazing...
There is a correction required. Honda hiked the price silently by 5800 INR from April 1st 2022 onwards. I think, this is the second price hike in 4 months. Now, City Zx CVT Ex-Showroom Delhi price is 15,03,800 INR.
A Big big appreciations to team skoda as Honda city is long term leader in its segment but now the time has changed to become a leader its slavia jem for the driving
City Hybrid will improve on the 2 fronts that Slavia has the edge - ride and handling. So, wait for a month. Also, an amazing fuel efficiency is a welcome move. X factor will be back.
A very honest review. My pick also A Skoda Slavia 1.0 Tsi At. Its a wow factor over the city isn't it? It is the most beautiful car in midsize Sedan segment.
I am using Skoda Fabia Petrol from 10 years. No issues with the car and it’s design is ageless. Did test drive on Slavia 1.0 TSI automatic . Car is gem in drive and looks.
Slavia is a very great competitor and also offers exclusive features like 60:40 split, ventilated seats, wireless android auto/ apple car play…and a good 1.0 tsi engine which is absolutely fun to drive. For me it’s the slavia hands down
Even though people complain about the GC of City, it’s enough. I took mine to East Sikkim and drove through slush, rocks and even snow. It didn’t scrape the underbelly and the ride was quite comfortable! Have made a video on my channel. Do check out!
I Agree on roads and small bumps gc feels adequate but our vento (gc 2mm less than city) almost scrapes the bumper while parking inside house, we have to be careful on slope so I think 20mm of extra ground clearance of slavia would be a peace of mind.
Tough choice, but going by the choice of enthusiastic drivers slavia wins but if one like normal drive with concern on fuel economy considering the daily increase in fuel price then City is a great choice....and remember slavia has not yet proved its reliability in india
My brother has 2020 city automatic, it’s good but on highways it feels just ok. I have driven Slavia and it’s amazing and feels new the engine is the best. Although I bought Kushaq, Slavia feels much more modern, for example the infotainment system of city is very dated and laggy. People with open mind will see these glaring differences. Also, Skoda service has been phenomenal, it’s not as costly as others have made it sound like.
For all its back seat glory, the city doesn't even provide adjustable rear headrest which you can get even in a wagonr. Also the central armrest just flops down into the seat making it too low
The City is a product of decades of engineering not to say the Slavia isnt but the difference is Honda has got this decades of engineering in a single segment for years not to mention its other product line up isnt in their respective segments counting all the markets. Ps The joy of reving that 1.5 litre i vtec to its limit is still something really special. Do a manual comparo

I drove both of them (automatic) and decided to go with slavia 1.5 , been 4 months, amazing to drive. Didn't go with honda is purely cause of the skoda engine it just felt slavia was so smooth at both low and high speeds but honda AT felt like it was a bit struggling to keep up.
Am driving the 5th gen City V CVT and it's damn good. A premium feel sedan. Very comfortable to drive in city traffic. Smooth power delivery. Wonderful for highway driving and cruise control is just fantastic. You feel very relaxed even after having a 7/8 hours journey. Low ground clearance is the only and a major concern.
1 suggestion to Autocar Team While comparing, please try to get both the cars in same colour. It will help neutralize any sort of viewer's bias and prejudice associated with a certain colour. Otherwise good video, its nice to see a bit of an informal touch and makes the viewing experience more fun.
Anybody please advise me i want to buy slavia 1.0 MT is it gud or any issues now a days i m hearing to much negatives about car errors millage drops 😢 pls somebody help !!
Slavia has actually fallen between the two stools. Its 1.5 litre turbo engine is fantastic but overpriced. And it's 1.0 lire engine is underpowered for a car this big and heavy. It was good for a smaller Polo but for Slavia it's not good enough. After the initial thrill of the turbo burst of power at high rpm subsides you will miss the linear power delivery of a bigger naturally Aspirated engine. Every time you slow down you will have to downshift, sometimes 2 gears and rev the car hard. After a while this will tire you and irritate you.
Imagine if u re going on a road trip in these cars. My biggest nightmare is the skoda throwing some error light on the dash and going into limp(crawl) mode. How far can a person go at 10kmph to reach a service station or a mechanic. I like the Slavia or the Virtus v much but it is the peace of mind offered by the city with its reliability that makes me pick that over the slavia. Do comment ur thoughts if u agree or disagree to my opinion.!
As a proud owner of both city and slavia, I would say that driving in city and on highways is more confident in city; however, slavia has more features, though Honda appears to be making up for that with regard to fuel efficiency.

How many people actually buy automatics as compared to manuals? The City is a far more overall sedan when it comes to everything (including service access point, resale and spare parts) if you are getting a manual.
With fuel costs being more or less same I would probably keep my City Petrol Car for 15yrs atleast. My last car(diesel) was sold in the 12th year. The City would be the fuss free choice over Skoda/VW especially considering the hit or miss service experience with Skoda/VW
This was a really intense comparo with both cars trading heavy blows to each other with their unique characteristics. Skoda has done a commendable job by finding how the city has remained the king of its segment for years & matching it on almost every front. However, the slavia's design is one aspect where I feel skoda should have worked upon. It doesn't look as premium as the Honda City. Personally, I prefer Honda's old school type approach which makes living with it comparatively easier. Backseat experience is still the one to beat, it offers good handling & engine is fab as well. The suspension should offer the right amount of softness which is the only sore point. If I were to pick one between the two, it would be the city
After test driving both city and slavia couple of times, i went for city. The ride quality and comfort is better. Extremely delighted so far with my choice.
I’m not always in favour of they speaking about city performance. Once you drive a car and get used to its personality you plan your overtakes and stops. “It’ll take a while to shift down…” doesn’t matter I guess. It’s a good car, you really want to buy this car in a time when everyone is gunning towards suvs. And build quality is solid. Also the upshifts are necessary in a time when the petrol prices are burning holes in our pockets.
city is meant for business people spending inside the car of their own and with the family. Slavia is an enthusiastic car for fun to drive people. City is an all rounder. Slavia thigh support seems to be less, comparatively with city.
"I think we need to credit Skoda for reigniting our love for sedans." - NIkhil, 2022
And boy do I felt that!

Autocar is notch above as compared to others when it comes to car review ❤️
What does "7 step" mean on the City's CVT? Isn't the whole definition of a CVT that it doesn't have any gear ratios?
It does have gear ratios but they are converted into one single, seamless rev range
They add step locking in interval for more usability
Even amaze has 7 step cvt. There are actually 7 gears (imaginary) which u can shift to with the help of paddle shifters
@@vivekjk6729 basically 7 different ratios
I miss the PAKKA GERMAN FEEL in the Slavia somehow.
Both you guys have hooked me from start to end, very good presentation 👌👏
Video isn't complete without Nikhil mentioning he's 5'11" tall
After test driving both city and slavia couple of times, i went for city. The ride quality and comfort is better. Extremely delighted so far with my choice.
The two of them do it well, very few pairs in the auto journalism are kicking it better, should do this more often and nice comparo.
City always..sold 2016 City for 7.5 lac so has good resale value
I’m not always in favour of they speaking about city performance. Once you drive a car and get used to its personality you plan your overtakes and stops.
“It’ll take a while to shift down…” doesn’t matter I guess.
It’s a good car, you really want to buy this car in a time when everyone is gunning towards suvs. And build quality is solid. Also the upshifts are necessary in a time when the petrol prices are burning holes in our pockets.
Can you do Slavia vs Virtus.
What with acceleration in city.. that is a paddle shifter.. u can down the gear right
I think for perfect comparison you have to put Slavia 1.5 with city 1.5.. Then only It will become neck to neck for better conclusion...
City for me :)
Still the KING 👑
By the way all your team is perfect.. All of you guys are awesome in presentation and in knowledge of the subject too... Best wishes to everyone..
Fabulous autocar... Good job guys!!!
city is meant for business people spending inside the car of their own and with the family. Slavia is an enthusiastic car for fun to drive people. City is an all rounder. Slavia thigh support seems to be less, comparatively with city.
false
slavia has soft suspension just like city
not that great handling
how's that Enthusiastic car
it's a family car
Can’t say for all. City appeals to people who like the vtech engine. It has its very own niche following.
@@Moonlight-hq3gi skoda is always meant for only 4 occupants. the middle person in any skoda is a punishment.
We want more of this kind of videos with the same reviewers.
