I think the fluidic Verna diesel was the fastest car in its segment in a straight line back when it was launched in 2011z So it’s not the first time hyundai have won the performance crown.

What people seem to forget is hyundai intensionally gives a more comfortable ride quality rather than making it stiff and sporty, which is actually better for indian roads. That's why they have N-line versions for sportiest settings. There's a reason why elantra N-line sells like hot cakes overseas and a more globally accepted design language with immaculate road presence. Not just a wider and longer sedan version of their hatchback. Legends know what I'm talking about 😉

Hyundai/kia engines are overpowered on their capacity compared to performance competitors and do not run well for long rides in real world conditions and have overheating issues, thats why even the N line abroad has lesser sales than the German and Japanese performance line cars.. VW and Honda will remain the performance benchmarks with the TSI and IVTEC due to superior engineering...The car which sells like Hotcakes at least in europe is VW or Honda Civic Type R...and on above results, even a locally manufactured engine with more power will be faster of course but performance is not just a strip of drag race, real world driving is about engine capacity and handling! There is a reason why legends dont buy Korean junk! 😉
I bet this car verna is more dynamicaly sorted out too. i can't trust the other reviews that says Germans are better handling, it feels like a bias to me. I once was a die hard ford fan and I know the feeling of a fan and how hard the bias is. Please do a track comparison. Dynamically sorted out compared to the other Hyundais and Kia’s ? Yes! Compared to the VW twins? No! The Verna has two drawbacks- steering feedback and the suspension. Both of these are set up with comfort in mind. The car will run laps around the VW twins on a neatly laid out National Highway but put it on a road with undulations- you’ll face some lateral movement and put it on uneven roads- you’ll experience vertical movement. Does that mean the virtus and slavia and magnificent handlers? Absolutely not! They’re subpar when you compare them with the Polo and the Rapid/ Vento which in themselves weren’t the last word in handling. However this step down from the previous gen VW cars that were operating in India and the step up for the Verna from the previous and current Hyundais has meant that the margin is very slim and with the N-Line, the Verna will truly take the crown. As it stands today, it depends on the buyers preference. There is nothing to choose between these cars.
You guys need to understand that for a majority of buyers they need performance along with comfort not without comfort. Comfort is the more important factor for people. VW/Skoda clearly haven’t understood that and that’s why they losing in the market
Lot of Skoda fans only way to troll verna is for safety 😂 but my view it all fate 🤣 if u buy salavia & crash it above 110 kmph even 5 star safety will not save u from death . Realtime example 1 of my relative crashed on a truck at 115kmph in vento he is dead 😢 but my cousin brother in 1st gen swift dzire at 75-80 kmph lost control & rolled 3 times but he survived with minor injuries 🧐. Crash test is done for 70kmph , speed only kill .
Day before yesterday i.e. on October 12th, 2024 (Dusshera), I had a head-on collision with a Verna while driving my Tata Zest at around 25-30 km/h. Surprisingly, the Verna was totaled, the front end was completely wrecked, the radiator leaked, the driver's side door jammed, the rear driver's side window shattered, and the back bumper was hanging loose. But what shocked me the most was that none of the airbags deployed, despite it having 6 or 8 airbags (I’m unsure of the exact number) and the car had to be towed would not start. In contrast, my Tata Zest is the base model with no airbags, but thankfully, the seatbelt did its job !! It sustained a cracked front bumper that was pushed back into the bonnet cavity, the wheel gap got affected, and the bumper's lock pins came loose. However, with a firm push, the pins went back in place and the wheel gap was back to normal I drove back my hometown 370km no issues. Now, the bumper just needs a repair for the crack. But after this accident, my outlook on build quality has totally changed, and the only reason i reached to this video was i was shocked by the build quality of Verna and was searching for verna videos when i found this video and your comment in particular, I have no fandom of either Tata or Verna or Skoda (nor are they in my budget range to buy ever ) I’m just a fan of safety first.
Now the race was perfect and fair, also there should have been diesel options in this segment which would have offered the fun of torque without compromising in the fuel economy.
Diesels are slowly fading away. They will first disappear from smaller cars because of how increasingly difficult it is for manufacturers to comply with the emissions norms.

Now thats a fair comparison. Pls do two things 1. Dct vs Dsg (preferably virtus) 2. Top speed comparison of virtus and verna (dct and dsg) on track. I own dct verna, with full load i managed to clock 212 kmph (@4.2 rpm) on DM expressway. I think it can go more than that. U r the guys who can take the cars to its limits and enlighten all of us.
I think the stock tyres make a difference too. The Verna I guess are on Apollos, which may not be the best, but better than the GoodYear ATM2s on the Slavia
Good tyres always make a difference. However when you come to factory fitted stock tyres, there’s hardly a difference. Tyre technology has advanced so much that its almost impossible to make bad tyres. And no tyre manufacturer would want to and no car manufacturer would want to sell their car with bad tyres.
so far cars in india get tyres for economic purposes .. motorsports enthusiasts get the least best tyres in these cars at the end they r standard cars with standard tyres

I got the City for the space, refinement and looks even though these are much more powerful vehicles. Really wish Honda brings in a Type R City with some sort of turbocharging. Either Honda needs to bring more powerful engines, or more features(ideally both). They are currently doing neither which pains me greatly as a Honda fan.
Exactly same story for 2 wheeler market as well, Confessing as acustomer, in Car segment nor in bike segment, none of the honda vehicle is in my wishlist, why ? we all know they have great quality but at the end of the day other makers are not far behind in quality. but they also provide great looks, features, different kinds of vehicles to choose from. My favourite bike and car brand is unfortunately now snoozing

Having said that, just like Sirish said and handling, safety wise Slavia/Virtus are still the better cars .. Just because Verna is faster does not make it a better car overall
Safety wise the car is not tested as yet. Handling wise OD have said it has lesser body roll and have published it. Zig wheels have confirmed it has the better braking. The DCT gearbox has also been stated by various professional journalists to be better gearbox since it’s smoother shifting, less jerkier and quicker. The only area in which the slavia is actually better is in terms of the steering feedback and better controlled lateral and vertical movement of the suspension post 100kmph. But hey, even that will go for a toss when the n-line is out.
@@TTTrainTTT from what I have seen from Gagan and few other reviewers, the handling is not very good.. it has rear disk brakes which is an advantage but in all other aspects of driving dynamics it's still inferior to the Slavia and Virtus even though those are a slight downgrade from Rapid and Vento after the 2.0 programme

This means that the 2nd and the 3rd gears in the Verna are longer ratioed gears than the Slavia, which is fair enough because those are the gears in which the most overtakes are done in bumper to bumper traffic, but somehow they have stretched it to give more acceleration at the same time. That 10 bhp helps the Verna take the win.
@@saumabhobagchi5547 Sorry couldn't figure out when both cars shifted from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. If Slavia shifted earlier than Verna , then I would assume Slavia to have a shorter ratio than Verna. If that is the case, the extra 10bhp, tyres and overall weight might be the factors here 😊

It’s less than a second difference but no doubt High speed stability is much much better in Škoda cars. I had driven both but Škoda feels better at high speed.

Is there actually a chance of having the Verna N-Line launched anytime soon? I’m thinking about buying the Turbo but an N line would be very enticing and I’m willing to wait for it. But there doesn’t seem to be concrete proof of it also
It will be launched before year end. Hyundai said they will launch a new n line car every year. They haven't done it till now. I'm waiting for it as well
There will be cosmetic upgrades rather than performance upgrades, there could a sporty exhaust. However the real performance version is the "N" which I doubt Hyundai will bring it to India.
That's not the right way to look at things. In the end we all share the same passion for automobiles. And we should respect each others' choices. While the Verna may have won a straight line drag, the Slavia and Virtus are better handling cars.

Among NAT asp engines, Honda City vtec M/T will be my pick because of that feel when it roars around 7100 rpm, handling, comfort & reliability and among Turbo petrols, VW Virtus 1.5 GT DSG will be my pick due to its design, driving dynamics across the corners,handling, performance and quick shift of DSG gearbox without any rubberband effects.

I got the City for the space, refinement and looks even though these are much more powerful vehicles. Really wish Honda brings in a Type R City with some sort of turbocharging. Either Honda needs to bring more powerful engines, or more features(ideally both). They are currently doing neither which pains me greatly as a Honda fan.
If the City suits your needs perfectly, it’s the best car for you. No matter what anyone else says.
Exactly same story for 2 wheeler market as well, Confessing as acustomer, in Car segment nor in bike segment, none of the honda vehicle is in my wishlist, why ? we all know they have great quality but at the end of the day other makers are not far behind in quality. but they also provide great looks, features, different kinds of vehicles to choose from. My favourite bike and car brand is unfortunately now snoozing

Having said that, just like Sirish said and handling, safety wise Slavia/Virtus are still the better cars ..
Just because Verna is faster does not make it a better car overall
Safety wise the car is not tested as yet. Handling wise OD have said it has lesser body roll and have published it. Zig wheels have confirmed it has the better braking. The DCT gearbox has also been stated by various professional journalists to be better gearbox since it’s smoother shifting, less jerkier and quicker. The only area in which the slavia is actually better is in terms of the steering feedback and better controlled lateral and vertical movement of the suspension post 100kmph.
But hey, even that will go for a toss when the n-line is out.
@@TTTrainTTT from what I have seen from Gagan and few other reviewers, the handling is not very good.. it has rear disk brakes which is an advantage but in all other aspects of driving dynamics it's still inferior to the Slavia and Virtus even though those are a slight downgrade from Rapid and Vento after the 2.0 programme
It all depends on what one wants from their car. These are all good cars in their own right

This means that the 2nd and the 3rd gears in the Verna are longer ratioed gears than the Slavia, which is fair enough because those are the gears in which the most overtakes are done in bumper to bumper traffic, but somehow they have stretched it to give more acceleration at the same time. That 10 bhp helps the Verna take the win.
It's more to do with the bhp advantage.
I think 2nd and 3rd gear ratios in Verna might be shorter... Shorter gear ratios result in better acceleration as far as I know...

@@saumabhobagchi5547 Sorry couldn't figure out when both cars shifted from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. If Slavia shifted earlier than Verna , then I would assume Slavia to have a shorter ratio than Verna. If that is the case, the extra 10bhp, tyres and overall weight might be the factors here 😊

It’s less than a second difference but no doubt High speed stability is much much better in Škoda cars. I had driven both but Škoda feels better at high speed.

Is there actually a chance of having the Verna N-Line launched anytime soon? I’m thinking about buying the Turbo but an N line would be very enticing and I’m willing to wait for it. But there doesn’t seem to be concrete proof of it also
It will be launched before year end. Hyundai said they will launch a new n line car every year. They haven't done it till now. I'm waiting for it as well
Wonder what extra this could get in the N Line trim.
There will be cosmetic upgrades rather than performance upgrades, there could a sporty exhaust.
However the real performance version is the "N" which I doubt Hyundai will bring it to India.

Just an observation. I see the fuel in Verna was almost empty. Whereas in Slavia, it was almost full. Small thing but makes a difference in drags.
But still that doesn't make this much difference the way the gap between them is.

However, a rolling start is not the right way to start a drag race.
Among NAT asp engines, Honda City vtec M/T will be my pick because of that feel when it roars around 7100 rpm, handling, comfort & reliability and among Turbo petrols, VW Virtus 1.5 GT DSG will be my pick due to its design, driving dynamics across the corners,handling, performance and quick shift of DSG gearbox without any rubberband effects.

Wow! At last. Of course, not discounting their (hyundai) diesels... their 1.6 diesels had an edge... Only soft suspension was a letdown.
